Looks like we have something in common. Went to a sm4sh tourney and hated it. Then I picked up PM and loved it, started to do much better when I got more used to the differences between games. I now currently main The Dark Lord to devastating effect.

You got top 5 at your first PM tourney? I'm guessing you've gone to tourney's for other games (Melee for an example) before because that is very rare, unless you haven't of course. I don't mean to sound jealous but the competition must have been pretty weak for you to do that good at your first...

Usually when I get bored/can't win with Dorf I usually go with Marth. Spacing/zoning type characters really. Falcon though? I'm not a fan of using Falcon so I just use Dr. Mario or Ness, two of my favorites. I wouldn't recommend that though...that's just me.
