Why? Because swords are cool!
That and because the Legend of Zelda is the game that made me love the idea of swordsmen and swordswomen. This resulted in me loving the Japanese comic book series, Rurouni Kenshin and a love of samurai in general. Knights are really cool too, if they have a sword, and not really use a gun, they are cool.
That and Link's moves are AWESOME!
