If you play the game for what it isn't the flaws will be noticeably- e.g. realizing MK is pretty good at beating people up- larger than playing Brawl and Smash Bros in general for what it is, a kind of hybrid throwback...

You know, maybe if this game actually has the players to actually trying to ban a specific character because it's so good in comparison to the rest of the game, maybe you shouldn't actually play it in the first place and play something else. Like melee.
