I can choose between a squirrel with access to various submachine guns, a shotgun, an AKM, bombs, RPGs, a flamethrower, and on goes the list, or a bear that can fly for a few seconds.

Fire Emblem has eight characters in the game by now and the last installment seemingly sold approximately three copies in the United States from how much people talk about it. I guess it's not new, but SF2 does introduce new characters to the series. Like Wolf O'Donnell.
