Yeah, but I'm talking about cancelling the dash attack with the upsmash as soon as it lands (similar to snake's mortar slide). I've done this against the computer without being grabbed, but haven't tested it on a human subject yet.

Yep, that's the key argument for the "superiority" of Melee. The more options there are available, the greater the variety of outcomes available. It's statistically well-grounded, but only if your underlying assumptions about the number of "options" is true. If they are in fact true, then...
