    Where to start?

    There are just a few basic techniques that you MUST know, (short hopping and shield grabbing, etc.) with all characters. After you find your main, then everything else falls into place, like your combo system and offense/defense play. =]

    Why dont people like playing with items?

    I enjoy items myself. The "Final Smash" is a bit overdoing it, in my opinion. It's more serious without them, though. . I guess.
