    N64 Controllers discussion

How the Lodgenet's OEM thumbstick cap fits is really the main issue for me. The thumbstick cap on my Hori pad is quite tight. I don't feel any play at all in it (not talking about the actual joystick box here--separate issue), whereas the Lodgenet cap is way looser. If you open a Lodgenet...

    N64 Controllers discussion

The Lodgenet controller conversion works pretty well for SSB. I do find the Lodgenet's OEM joystick box to be a little too loose for my liking, though. The joystick cap also fits kind of lose on top of the shaft, so it's not incredibly tight. After a recommendation, I ended up replacing the...

When your GCN controller gets worn...

All of the newer, white Gamecube controllers come with the type-3 plastic joystick box (see Kadano's thread). In my opinion, this is the best one of the three. It's a bit stiffer and does not have as much play in it compared to the other designs. All of Nintendo's Classic Controller Pro's...

A better GCN controller? Hori Battle Pad for Wii U - Review!

Personally, I seem to prefer the non-metal joystick boxes. I just recently bought one of the PDP Wii U Gamecube pads (Yoshi). I wanted to see what I thought of the controller and joysticks. Playing N64 SSB is tough with this joystick. It's very tight, which is fine, but it's difficult to...

    The N64 Hori controller

Yeah, I meant it would be best to find a suitable replacement joystick box. I only referenced the Lodgenet controller because it just so happens to use the same joystick box and even has a Hori chipset. Some basic soldering skills would be required, but it's the most sensible approach, unless...

    The N64 Hori controller

Why don't you try finding a replacement joystick box that will fit in there? It's very likely something is wrong with the potentiometers. I did a Lodgenet controller conversion recently, and the Lodgenets use the exact same joystick box as found in the Hori Pads. During my conversion I...

A better GCN controller? Hori Battle Pad for Wii U - Review!

The early Gamecube controllers used this joystick box: You can visit kadano's thread " Technical Knowledge Compilation" for a lot more good information on joysticks.

A better GCN controller? Hori Battle Pad for Wii U - Review!

Mechageo, thank you for taking the time to do that. I was hoping Hori somehow was able to get the same joystick boxes as found in the Classic Control Pro and newer Gamecube controllers. This is the joystick box Nintendo used for those controllers:

Technical knowledge compilation (Gamecubes, controllers, TVs, recording)

Answered my own question above. Decided to buy one of the newer Wii U Nunchuks to see if the joystick box had changed. Sadly, it's still the old type 2 design. Really too bad there is not a known vendor selling those type 3 joystick boxes. I wonder what stickboxes are being used for the new...

A better GCN controller? Hori Battle Pad for Wii U - Review!

When these Hori controllers come out, can someone please disassemble one and take a few internal pictures? I'd be interested to see what joystick boxes Hori is using for these, and if they are same ones found in the Classic Controller Pros and newer Gamecube controllers.

Has anyone taken apart a newer Wii U Nunchuk? I was curious if Nintendo had transitioned over to the design 3 stick boxes instead of the design 2s. I'm guessing Nintendo just used all the same parts internally, but it would have been nice had they updated the boxes.

    3D printed N64 joystick parts

KnitePhox, did you end up receiving these yet? I'd be curious to see what your personal opinion of them was. Definitely hopeful something good can come from all this.

    3D printed N64 joystick parts

Neat to see that more and more of this is popping up. We really need the bowl recreated too, though.

    Advanced Techniques Video Guide

Nice video. Very thorough on establishing the basics, which are needed to progress further in the game. Look forward to seeing part 2.

Does anyone here play SSB64 via XRGB Framemeister?

I'm curious since most people seem to use Framemeisters for Genesis, SNES, Neo Geo, Saturn, etc. You really don't hear much with regard to N64 use. One thing I know that is an issue with the Framemeister and a N64 is that there are games that switch between 240p and 480i resolutions. This...
