So new information has surfaced about Brawl's Subspace Emissary Adventure, but at the same time he also clued us in how trophies in this game will work. With the setup Sakurai has going, Smash players of all kinds will be itching to replay this mode again and again.

It seems the intent of Sakurai is to make Subspace Emissary just as central as the multiplayer aspect of Brawl. Trophies being earned through the use of trophy stands as if they were Pokéballs is the basic idea of this update.

Much like in Pokémon one is required to weaken the enemy significantly in order to turn them into a trophy and capture them.

If you happen to have a trophy stand with you and you weaken it enough, you can turn that enemy into a trophy by throwing said trophy stand at it.

If you succeed in your attempt of it taking it out a loud thud will take place.

And the Poké-err... Trophy is for you to scoop up.

With the prospects of learning more about the back story about the Subspace Emissary one has even more incentive to collect these trophies and learn the purpose of the enemy who has entangled the very world of Smash.

And then there are the sSE Bosses...

Since you can't get these trophies if you don’t have a trophy stand, pure skill is not enough-it requires a little luck, too.
I'll make it so you'll somehow be allowed to fight the bosses even after you've already cleared the game, so it's OK if you don’t hunt all these trophies down in the first battle.
It appears that bosses will be, but are not required to beaten through use of the trophy stands. I'm really interested to see how this trophy making will fit into the whole story. Maybe the Emissary will be sealed back into a trophy again in the end, but then, who knows?

Yeah, this really does capture some of the pokemon feel. Posted by wisewaters at December 29, 2007 - 1:33am | Reply to this
*EDIT*
On the left side of the screen in SSE, what do those 2 smash balls/ smash symbols represent? Posted by lavamage at December 27, 2007 - 2:07pm | Reply to this

Sounds pretty darn cool...!
If Towtow is not a boss, then Peach was probably able to capture it easily because it's just a normal creature, not a boss.
What I'm wondering is, from the picture of the Big Primid, they mention his "smash attack". I don't know if bosses (who weren't variations of playable characters) in previous Smash games have had smash attacks, but might this be a clue that the Big Primid (or the regular Primids if the Big Primid is too giant to be a playable character) are actually playable characters?
Just a thought... Posted by Twoje at December 27, 2007 - 5:35am | Reply to this
