In MYM10 there may be some Pokemon movesets. For the first time. Also, I didn't realise Krookodile or whatever was the size of Godzilla.

Wow, what a list. I am utterly amazed at how vote split slaughtered MW. Only 1 set within the top 10, and none within the top 5? No surprise that Tutankoopa is the leader of the pack, though. Anyway, I'm happy for this contest at making the top 25 with Fawful, as well as having Obi-wan and the soldier place. (Maybe I'll even get a shift upwards!)

As a side note, I was also rather amused when I saw where Ronald Mcdonald ended up. I didn't expect it at all, but it was quite gratifying.

Well, before MYMX (that seems to be what most people are calling it now) starts, leaders have still got to finalize the Top 50. After that, there's generally a week or two to either relax or prepare feverishly for the next contest. I'd estimate that we're going to start sometime in the first week or two of May, but to the best of my knowledge, there's nothing official yet.

Yay, I'm the new Funniest MYMer! I at least know that I'm welcomed in one section of MYM and can hope to 'win' in a way. Thanks to everyone who voted for me.

It's also great to know that Ronald McDonald is tied for 3rd funniest set with Fat Zombie. At least Ronald has conquered Make Your Move in some way that would make him happy.

This is a very old tutorial from MYM's misty past, enjoy

Old tutorial is old, but a lot of it, shockingly enough, holds up even today

Edit: The original copy of this tutorial was lost, which is why I'm reposting it here

Tying with Rool and n88 for that is quite surprising considering...ya know? They're Rool and n88. That said, I take that as a great honor :3

Best Comic Book/Manga Set

1) Shuma-Gorath by MarthTrinity 7 votes
1) Dormammu by n88_2004 7 votes
Good to see you know your place, fleshlings. Joking aside, very surprised good ol' Shuma beat out the likes of Nappa and Bizarro for this top spot; very appropriate that the god-like Strange villains take the top spot here.

Best Moveset Mechanic

Wasn't expecting any votes here but they're very much appreciated =)

Damn that other MarthTrinity for beating me out! In all seriousness though, I aim to improve every contest and I'm glad it's showing ;P

Thanks to everyone who voted for me here (you're too sweet <3) and congrats to all the winners and such! And thank you Silver for putting these awards together as always!

And now since I can, I'll show off my only "locked" set for MYM10. . .

Well-deserved on Kupa and Warlord's part. Kind of a difficult category, so I'm not surprised I was largely ignored.

Lots of awesome newcomers in Make Your Move 9, glad to see so many nominees if anything. LegendofLink's the obvious pick here, though Nick really deserves more points - I haven't seen Crash, Pizzamasta, Pikmin or Tenodera do anything in months.

Best Pokemon Moveset

2) Diglett by Junahu 6 votes

Can't complain with the winners here. It feels weaker than last contest's Pokemon movesets, but perhaps that's a good thing.

Best Comic Book/Manga Set

1) Dormammu by n88_2004 7 votes

3) Jeice by Smash Daddy 5 votes
Very deserving winners in Shuma and Dormammu; love that three of the Ginyu Force also got up there. And hey, Vegeta and "Recomme" got some pity votes, hurray! Seriously, though, thanks to everyone for these votes, this is probably the hardest category this contest, so getting joint third is, to me, a really cool accolade.

Best Moveset Mechanic

1) King Boo by Bkupa666 8 votes
2) Klink by LegendofLink 7 votes
3) Sarkhan Vol by LegendofLink 6 votes
3) Chain Chomp by n88_2004 6 votes
3) Aianto by n88_1004 6 votes
Probably the most diverse of the winners in these awards; cool to see sets like Frost and Chomp get lots of appreciation for their particular niche, and even something like Pong gets recognition for its unique mechanic. Good show to Boo's fantastic ghost resource.

Best Playstyle
1) Tutankoopa by KingK.Rool 8 votes
2) King Boo by Bkupa666 7 votes
3) Necky by Bkupa666 6 votes
Again, competitive category, was assured in Tutankoopa's victory from the beginning - definitely had one of the more original and memorable of Make Your Move 9's playstyles. Lovely to see Kupa get so many votes as well... and hey, Jeice got some votes too, thanks guys.

Funniest Moveset

1) The Prince by MarthTrinity 10 votes
2) M.Trinity by MarthTrinity 6 votes
3) Ronald McDonald by Katapultar 4 votes
3) Fat Zombie by MasterWarlord 4 votes
I love how Aberdeenshire this category is. It's no surprise that Prince won, it's one of the most genuinely funny movesets I've ever read. M. Trinity it also a laugh, but has such a different approach to it. After that, it gets a bit questionable, but thus is the nature of being funny in Make Your Move's community. At least Wiz and Kupa 2 got some votes, and almost got third, thanks to everyone who voted for that. And I suppose, thanks for not voting Ripper or Muk. :c

LegendofLink for most improved? That's a little misleading, when he also won the best newcomer category. I suppose in that sense, he improved insurmountably! Certainly not opposed to him winning awards either way. I'm very happy to win second here, and there's a large amount of deserving users placed at third, groovy stuff.

Most Helpful MYMer

1) MarthTrinity 6 votes
2) Smash Daddy 5 votes
3) KingK.Rool 4 votes
Again, a high placing! Pretty sure I've always failed in this award, so happy to see that. MT's definitely the most helpful what with his informative recap, however, so I can totally agree to his winning.

Funniest MYMer

1) Katapultar 7 votes
2) MarthTrinity 5 votes
2) Kholdstare 5 votes
3) Tirkaro 3 votes
Um, sure, why not. Katapultar is apparently building quite the fan base in Make Your Move.

Considering my commenting kind of dropped off, I'm happy to get so many votes here. Rool obviously put a lot of work in, but I feel like Warlord got the shaft here, as a catch-up isn't as helpful as consistently commenting... then again, Warlord avoids some movesets, so that point may be moot in some people's opinions. Also great to see DM up there, when he's another consistent commenter.

AND THE MYM9 WINRAR IS. . . MASTERWARLORD!
1) MasterWarlord 7 votes
2) BKupa666 5 votes
2) KingK.Rool 5 votes
3) Junahu 4 votes
Congratulations to Warlord. Wait, Rool got second on one set? What? :bee:

This is probably the actual most stiff competition, just considering I tied with Meanie with one vote should be indicative of that. Great contest from everyone else on here.

Special Award: Most Missed MYMer

Great to see we haven't forgotten Mendez, though with this, it would appear that the community will implode when Kibble returns. I also love the KoJ and Thrice votes - truly, you are the funniest in Make Your Move! :toonlink:

Hey guys!

I noticed MYM9 had ended and glanced through and saw that I got nominated for Most Missed MYMer. :c I guess it does seem like I dropped off the face of the earth. The reason is that I'll be graduating from college in May, and this semester has been pretty stressful, from uber-hard tests to searching for jobs (horror) to social things and stuff. As a result, I didn't really have the time or motivation to be active in MYM9 (I barely have enough motivation to do schoolwork) (senioritis sucks). But I followed the thread every so often, and from what I saw, the MYM world is still going strong, with some awesome-looking and creative sets.

And would you look at that, you all are on the verge of MYMX! That's ten! I never imagined it would go on for this long when I joined up as a lowly freshman in MYM4. Despite all the doom and gloom that plagues MYM every once and a while, the community has stayed strong; some of the old veterans are still around, and all the new blood is jumping right in and setting the bar high. You all have a pretty awesome thing going, and the best part of it all is the great community you have here. It's been nice knowing that there was always a group of pretty awesome people here in MYM to come back to (after going away every other contest :p). I'd say you guys have been a pretty important part of my college experience; I've learned a lot from you guys, even though I've never met any of you in real life and probably never will (but that's what Facebook is for). I may not have been a particularly active member of MYM, but I always felt like part I was part of this community.

Well, this post turned out a little longer than I intended it to be. I just wanted to say what I've been up to, give a little official goodbye/retirement thing. But what I really want to say here is that it's been really great knowing you guys for the past couple of years, and I hope MYM keeps on going strong (I hope I'm not Jynx-ing it). This post just keeps getting longer and longer (who knew I had that much to say?), so I guess I'll just stop here.

Stay cool guys, and best of luck in the future! :bee:

It's great to hear from you again, FF. You still have my images in your signature from back in Make Your Move 4, heh. It has been a long time since we old-timers all joined up in Make Your Move 3 and 4, but you've always remained a significant part of this contest to myself and many others. You weren't the most active member, yet you put the kind of soul into all of your movesets that really defines what's great in Make Your Move, and you will remain deeply missed by all you had interacted with.

That said, I hope this isn't the end. Don't feel like a stranger - you can pop into the Make Your Move chat whenever you have the time. Though, I am happy that you were able to give a sort of goodbye to us all if you can't, I can understand why you'd prefer to do it this way. You'll always have a home in this community, FF.

Hey everyone, I'm Koolerkid - just Kooler, for short. I'm brand new here - not just to MYM, but to Smash World as well. I literally made an account on here JUST to join you guys on MYM. Sadly, I seem to have arrived too late for MYM9, but I'm looking forward to posting the moveset I have planned for MYMX, and thought I'd introduce myself a little early. Plus, a little advertising can't hurt, right?

Gon Freecss, from Hunter X Hunter

Incidentally, does anyone know when MYMX will start? I can't wait!

Welcome to the site, Kooler! It's always nice to have newcomers here at MYM!

We're not quite finished with MYM9 yet(the submission period is over, though), so it will probably be 2-4 weeks before MYMX starts up. Welcome to the contest!

Since I don't know how to make shadowed images, I'll just post these the way they are.

Viewtiful Joe is one of my favorite video game characters, even though he can be annoying sometimes.

I don't know why, but I really like Ashley for some reason. Maybe it's just her personality. Scratch that, it's definitely her personality.

I think Marina would have made a good and unique edition to Brawl. Let's hope I can prove that.

There are others I'm thinking of, but let's save them for later.

He's Covered Wars Y'know...
Frank West: Photojournalist, Zombie Slayer, and Makeshift Megaman. Say "nighty-night" to Leon and Coach, because Frank is the champion at zombie genocide. Angry that he was denied a place in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 he decided to take his anger out on the MYM staff. Using his limitless arsenal of undead-slaying technology, Frank puts the "POW" in "Power of the Press". He may not be able to make beam swords like his buddy Chuck, but Frank can still turn some heads with an aptly placed baseball bat. Using his camera, and whatever other weapons he can find lying around, he'll kick *** and get the scoop of a lifetime.

Appearances (In Order):
  • Dead Rising (2006) [Xbox 360]
  • Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop (2009) [Wii]
  • Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars (2010) [Wii]
  • Dead Rising 2: Case West (2010) [XBLA]
  • Dead Rising 2: Off the Record (2011) [XBLA]

Oh yeah, look forward to it...

A moveset on the first page just won a MYM. Let that sink in for a bit.

3. The Prince [TheKingofAllCosmos/MarthTrinity]
Needs to be shifted down to 25th (wary)

7. Dormammu [n88_2004]
9. Jalorda [Hyper_Ridley]
Dormammu making top 10, and me actually making top 10 again (h)

11 .Bizarro [darth_meanie]

Opinions Everywhere

1. Bowser Jr. [BKupa666]

A bit of a surprise here, but it makes sense that it landed this spot in retrospect. High exposure and a generally favorable opinion of the set, with few who were truly disappointed in it, made it a very safe vote or weak vote, and not an objectionable super vote.

It does feel a bit like a compromise to me though rather than a true consensus, and certainly doesn't have the same weight as Dark Bowser or Doppelori did in the past two contests. I think in this case the least unlikable set won. Congratulations nonetheless Kupa.
2 .Diglett [Junahu]
I think that this set definitely earned its spot as Jun's top set this contest, and its unique playstyle and approach to the character made it memorable. Certainly a deserving set.

3. The Prince [TheKingofAllCosmos/MarthTrinity]
I don't think that anyone was expecting this set in third, and it certainly shows how the vote layout is changing, as I don't seem to grasp what makes a set successful as well as I used to. The Prince's success undoubtedly is lent to the marvelous writing and breadth of the idea, the creativity of the concept. It's undoubtedly what led to this set's commanding grasp of the votes, and the fact that it certainly picked up a huge number of weak votes where it didn't get normals or supers (I certainly Weak Voted it).

I'm starting to think that execution is less important as a part of Make Your Move success than concept is. What exactly that means for the future of Make Your Move has yet to be seen.
5. Jeice [SmashDaddy]
This was a surprise to me, and one that does make me a little concerned, as while I'm sure that many people who voted for this set read it and liked it, the fact that it got as high as fifth, while being in the middle of that cluster bomb of movesets, and that Warlord gave such a stellar position for it on his personal rankings makes me worry that at least some of Jeice's votes came from people who based it purely on Warlord's opinion rather than coming to their own and reading the set.

I think that since we've introduced advertisements, and as commenting and reading movesets have slowly begun to drop off some, that people are reading sets less and basing more of their opinions off of advertisments and other comments than the sets themselves, which is a worrying possibility.

11 .Bizarro [darth_meanie]
Missed out on the top 10 for the first time since Make Your Move 5, the one where I had one sole newcomer set on the last day. I think that a number of factors came together as part of my turn out this contest, but it seems clear to me that the approach that I've been focusing on this past contest hasn't been reaching Make Your Move as I'd hoped. I also feel odd when I don't personally feel that Bizarro was necessarily the best set I made this contest, but that it got the most votes out of any of my sets partially out of Warlord appeal.

Ah well though, there's always the next contest. I have plenty of time to turn this boat around.

Oye, I do have more to say, but I am kind of tired and don't want to go through this entire list reiterating my thoughts that seem to be out of touch anyways. And I'm sleepy. Nyet.

Inserting my opinion where it is neither wanted nor needed

1. Bowser Jr. [BKupa666]
I'll confess, I don't much like this winner. Sure, nobody dislikes this set - but in a few contests I have a nasty feeling we'll be saying "Wait, WHO won MYM 9?"

6. Tutankoopa [KingK.Rool]
Groovy! Thanks to everybody who voted for my set, although the real reward is the number of comments I received when I first posted it - it makes me wish that some of the sets that beat me out had been so lucky.

9. Jalorda [Hyper_Ridley]
I can't express how pleasing it is to me to see that even a set that slipped by with a fairly modest, muted reception (and that Warlord only gave a weakvote, no less!) can make it into the top ten. That people are willing to look back at and reevaluate seemingly buried sets is a clear sign of MYM's progress over the last few... well, years.

18. Blaze the Cat [Junahu]
For me, this is the most surprising of Junahu's many placings. People are starting to look for different things indeed if an unabashed, self-confessed in-Smash set can slip into the top 20.

19. Pyro Jack [SmashDaddy]
Congratulations and well-deserved, Daddy.

23. Spiritomb [n88_2004]
If I had my way, this wonderful, unique set would be swapped with Dormammu waaay up there. In any case, it's great to see that n88 didn't fall victim to vote split - maybe now we can finally admit that it's not a relevant concept, just by looking at that top ten.

25. M.Trinity [MarthTrinity]
How incredibly fitting.

27. Sarkhan Vol [LegendofLink]
For my money, this is LL's best moveset, and certainly much more deserving of top 20 than Gear. It's a bit rough around the edges, but this is the real deal right here.

30. Sothe [gcubedude]
It's so nice to see a set from a relative newcomer, received with quiet approbation but not much else, place so high. Well done, gcubedude. Now if only geto's Harvey Volodarskii had done so well...

35. XP Tan [Junahu]
I was under the impression that this Junahu set was mostly disliked. I guess MYM just couldn't resist voting for... you know...

41. Shotzo [Plorf]
Congrats, Plorf, on making it up here once more! And a well-deserved placing it is, although I'd place Shotzo still higher up. This feels like a cathartic moment in your development as an MYMer.

46. Mona & Lisa [Junahu]
This is a surprise - I thought I was more or less the only one in all of MYM to like this moveset. And yes, I know, Junahu, it's only an extension of Blaze and doesn't make sense to be up here alone and blah blah blah

49. Fawful [Nicholas1024]
It should have been Flame Hyenard! (and higher at that)

50. Hazama [Thrice]
What? Fiftieth? What is this? Dontcha know he could blow you all away with just a wave of his hand?

Hurray! The top fifty is posted! Good job on the entire leadership - though especially MT - for all their hard work, and the voters for producing such a strong list. This is far and away a stronger line-up than Make Your Move 8, which I put down to the great job the leadership did in producing about thirty submissions all by themselves, and lots of newcomers who got out a tonne of sets as well.

I've got some comments to make on the top fifty, but first...

at least some of Jeice's votes came from people who based it purely on Warlord's opinion rather than coming to their own and reading the set.
This could be applied to any high placing set. :rotfl:

1. Bowser Jr. [BKupa666]
2 .Diglett [Junahu]
3. The Prince [TheKingofAllCosmos/MarthTrinity]
4. N.Brio [MasterWarlord]
This was a very surprising top five to me [not to mention with Jeice in it], but pretty awesome. You have the first moveset of the contest in first, no less, which is an amazing feat - like, wow, there were contests in the past where people put weight on how far along you posted your moveset, now it doesn't seem to matter at all, which can only be a good thing. I'm not a fan of Diglett, but seeing a set with such an expanded small concept that's as charming as that get second is also really endearing of the entire community's open and curious nature. Of course, Prince is monumental due to most of its appeal coming from its amazing presentation and the moveset being a general mish-mash of lots of interesting concepts. N. Brio is probably the most "normal" of the bunch, being your atypical Warlord set, but still excellent. I really do love the diversity of these sets.

5. Jeice [SmashDaddy]
And yeah, obviously I have to address a super high placing like this. Thanks to everyone who voted - I wasn't sure if I'd place in the top ten, fifth spot is pretty awesome. Not to mention, I actually had vote split in this contest! :bee:

Joking aside, it was lovely to see one of my sets be so successful. Lets hope I can repeat the success next contest.

6. Tutankoopa [KingK.Rool]
7. Dormammu [n88_2004]
8. King Boo [BKupa666]
9. Jalorda [Hyper_Ridley]
10. Necky [BKupa666][/B]
Kupa really owns the top ten this contest, and he deserves to. Necky was barely hanging on at the end there, I'm glad it stayed on. Again, quite different selection of movesets making up this block - not as much as the top five, funnily enough, but still, these sets have some fundamental contrasts in design that just make the ensemble delicious.

11 .Bizarro [darth_meanie]
Was kind of shocking to see DM place so low, but he admits himself this wasn't his strongest contest. Still, 11th isn't bad or anything. ;)

14. Nappa [MasterWarlord]
After Jeice, this was the next highest-placing Frieza minion set. Deserved, happy to see high placings for the mini DragonBall Z movement created by Warlord and I.

19. Pyro Jack [SmashDaddy]
Also cool to see this got plenty of votes. Definitely an interesting experiment for me, and an experience that was some of the most fun I've had making a moveset. Certainly a moveset I won't forget any time soon.

And this is the point where I get a little more selective on what I talk about.

30. Sothe [gcubedude]
Have to admit, was very happy to see this place so high. And this'll mean the one time I say, we did end up shifting this down a little bit. Very good placing for Gcube's first contest.

40. Jack Frost [wrkngclsshr]
Really great placing for Wrk too, and cool to at least see two of the Jacks on the top fifty. Good job, Yukari.

43. Muk [SmashDaddy]
Teetering on the edge, but I'm glad it got enough support to be on here. Aside from the two higher sets, this is probably the set that got the least amount of hatred, mostly stemming from it being such an old submission. Still, considering it had a massive negative hype train behind it at one point, I was stoked to see it on here - I guess a handful of people actually liked it. Personally, I've warmed to it, especially since I made big changes to certain inputs. Thanks to everyone who voted.

45. Recoome [SmashDaddy]
Same as with Muk, very happy to see this here, especially with how negative some of its reception was... obviously the weakest of the Ginyu Force, but it's great that all of them got on the top fifty in some form. Actually, I think the only DragonBall Z moveset not on here is Vegeta. Which wasn't close to placing anyway. :awesome:

49. Fawful [Nicholas1024]
Low low placing, yet it's still an admirable position for a newcomer to be in. Congratulations to Nick, now lets you and the rest of the new guys come back even stronger in Make Your Move 10, and maybe - just maybe - give the other regular members a run for their money.

Love you guys. Onward and upward.

Hmmmmmmmm...........not a whole lot to address here but I guess I'll say a few words on the placement of my own sets. . .

The Prince: Yes, I'm just as shocked to see this take the number three spot as you are. I really didn't think I'd do that great in this contest let alone place third over some really deserving sets, but thanks to everyone who voted for this one; placing third after eight freakin' contests of contributing is a wonderful, wonderful way to step down from my leadership position. I'm sure that The King of All Cosmos is quite pleased as well ;P

Shuma-Gorath: I feel Shuma's probably one of my strongest sets in ages so I'm glad to see it got some love. 16th is a very respectable spot for a set I really enjoyed making.

M.Trinity: Jesus Christ did this get infinite more votes than I thought it would. This set was amazingly fun to make and I'm glad it got such a great reception. It's only fitting that my "self insert" takes the 25th spot in the contest. Cheers guys~<3

Congrats to everyone who participated and thank you to everyone who voted!

I guess I'll put my two cents in on the top 10.

WUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT

Actually, I'm kinda diggin that the first set this contest won it all, considering the impact it had.

Diglett was by far my favorite Jun set. (Is it odd he's come in second twice in a row with a Pokemon related set?)

The Prince was my only SV in the Top 5, and was definitly a favorite of mine throughout the contest.

N.Brio was my LEAST favorite Warlord set this contest, I'd much perfer Landlos up here.

I did enjoy Jeice, although I think Vegeta was more deserving of this spot

Tutankoopa was my favorite to win this contest, and I'm disappointed It didn't even get Top 5.

Dormammu was my second-favorite n88 set, I'm happy he got Top 10.

King Boo was my favorite Kupa set, I thought it was a shoo-in for top 3.

Of course, Jaladora was a fun set, I'm happy it got recognised and put in the top 10.

Neckey solidifies Kupa's reign as King of MYM9, however fitting it may be.

I am a bit disheartened that none of my own movesets have placed, seeing as nearly every other regular did. Nothing with the Grey Knight OR John Marston, two of my personal favorites in this contest, is also disappointing.

Ah, whatever. Onwards to MYMX! I WILL be in the Top 50 if it KILLS ME!
