BACKGROUND

~Adrian Shephard: 22 year old Hazardous Environment Combat Unit Corporal, cowardly individual.

Corporal Adrian Shephard was ordered to serve an unnamed mission in New Mexico. What Shephard's team wasn't told, unlike the rest of the HECU, was that this was a military cover-up mission. This involves killing every alien and every scientist who knew about this incident. Along the way on his mission to leave the facility, he finds an array of both alien and military weapons, yet cowers at his enemies. He also comments about how ******** Black Mesa is having a room full of electrified toxic waste. If it weren't for a mysterious man that opened a door for him, Shephard would have died in it. Then again, that same mysterious man didn't open the door when his evacuation helicopter took of without him. Let's just say he didn't take that too well...
HOLY ****! WE'RE UNDER ATTACK! WOAH! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?! WHA- HOLY ****! WHAT THE ****?! OH GOD! OH ****! WHAT'S THAT THING?! HOLY ****!"

What’s unique?

With entering her defence mode, while she’s in her shell, she can still use some of her moves, and retreat back into her shell safe. Moves that can be used while in her defence mode will have their damage section in lovely blue. More info of her defence mechanism will be listed in the move!

Oh, and she will slightly float above the ground as well (1/4 of a Stage Builder Block).

Stats:

Size: 8/10 Toon Mermaid is a massive Target, being about 1.5 times the size of Bowser when he’s in his shell.
Weight: 8/10 Toon Mermaids shell means she will be living a long time.
Strength: 5/10 While having heavyweight qualities, she isn’t that great at damaging, hence why she has the defence mechanism.
Walk: 2/10 The Toon has one of the slowest walk – I mean floating – pace going…
Run: 3/10 … and the run isn’t that much better! Try living a shell in your life!
First Jump: 6/10 What an average Joe!
Second Jump: 5.5/10 … Still an average Joe.
Fall Speed: 7/10 She falls down quite quickly compared to the majority, but don’t threat too much, she has a slow acceleration.
Aerial mobility: 4/10 She also has a below average aerial mobility.
Range: 7/10 Using her shell and her bow to attack the though will mean she will have above average range.
Projectile range: 8/10 Plus, she’s no kidder when it comes to archery.
Crouch: 1/10 She lowers her float..
Traction: 8/10 With her shell having eyes, it must be easy for the mermaid when it wants to turn around.

Standard Attacks:

Neutral A: Defence Mode

Toon Mermaid closes her shell while she’s still in it. In this form, unlike other monsters, has super armour frames from moves which do 12% or less, and receives 1.5 times less knockback as well. The Mermaid can also move around and jump like normal with a limited set as well. To make this fairer for the opponent, they can break the guard off this move by doing 3 – 12 moves in a string depending of the power of the knockback off the move, and that’ll stun the mermaid for 5 seconds, and she’ll receive 1.6 times more knockback than normal. This will make the Mermaid a massive poo to fight against, so the opponent will defiantly aim for Toon World more than you!

You only need to press A once to get its effect, and to get out of it you can press A again too.

Dash Attack: Aqua Tail Swing

The Mermaid will turn around with the shell open, and also wiggles her tail up and down at the same time, and when the opponent gets hit, a water-like effect will occur. This has low start-up and ending lag, but has low priority with not the greatest of range. This does 9% and low-high diagonally upward knockback. Due to the low lag and knockback, this is great for setting up moves.
[9%]
In the defence mode, this automatically makes you go into your normal form!

Forward Tilt: Archery Skillz

(Auto-release charge) The Toon uses her bow, and gets out a red arrow very quickly, and then shoots it straight forward. When you fully charge this, the Toon sends out 3 arrows all in different trajectories, and if you do it half way she sends out 2 arrows, okay? The arrow travels in the same way as Toon Links arrow does, but travels 1.3 times further the distance than it normally does, and at the same speed as well. This also takes 2 seconds to fully charge this move. This has very little start up and ending lag. This does 4% (8% fully charged) and extremely low (Very low knockback fully charged) horizontal knockback with low priority. This is highly spammable, so use that to your best advantage.
[4 – 8%]
Yes, the mermaids hand and arrow will be outside the shell, she’s also psychic. This is even jerkier in the defence form, even when they approach you, they still have to break your shield!

Upward Tilt: Call of the Ocean

Toon Mermaid opens her shell up even more, and then she whistles upwards loudly. After 2.5 seconds, water will gush from the height of the Mermaid downwards on each side of her, and quickly pushes the opponent away in a Piplup like style. As you can tell, this has a lot of start-up lag, and this also has a lot of ending lag, and this has great priority. This also has the same range and speed as Piplups aqua jet as well. Every second in the water does 7% and a very slightly pushing knockback. Useless you call? Well, if you combine it with the down tilt, you’ll understand its mindgame power, and that it can be a gimper if you use it right, and that it could potentially rake lots of damage.
[7% every second]

Downward Tilt: Mermaids Manipulation

Toon Mermaid opens her shell up more, and then she whistles upwards loudly… wait, this sounds familiar. What this does, is that if the opponent doesn’t hit the mermaid after 2.5 second, the Mermaid will spin around without lag, and at the same time, hearts swarm around the Mermaid from half of fox’s side b both sides of the Toon. If the opponent is in the closer half to the mermaid for 2 seconds (that’s how long she spins around for), they become stunned for the same time as a broken shield, and if you are in the outer half of the move, they fall a sleep. Basically, the opponent has to guess which one you’ve done, and if they fall for this, this can set-up into your moves and into your charged smash. This also does 8% for the opponent if they fall for this.
[8%]

Smash Attacks:

Forward Smash: Clam Bash

The Toon Mermaid will close its shell up quickly, and then raises into the air 2 Ganondorfs high, and then makes the shell spin while travelling at a low arc which makes it travels 3 stage builder blocks horizontally. You can control the range of this move ever so slightly in the middle of its travels with the same properties as the defence mode. This has quite a bit of start-up, and has quite a lot of ending lag. This does 16% (21% fully charged) and mid-high (High knockback fully charged) horizontal knockback. This is Toon Mermaids strongest attack in terms of knockback, and it isn’t a KO move until the 160% mark uncharged, so you really need to manipulate those up and down tilts.
[16 – 21%]

Up Smash: Call of the sea fish

Toon Mermaid opens her shell more, and leans at the back of it. The Toon will then begin to chuckle to herself. After 0.8 seconds, 4 orange piranha fish the size of Pikachu jumps up from a pool of water which appears when you do this on each side of the Toon, biting upwards similar to choppers in the classic sonic games. The fish jump out 2 stage builder blocks high. This covers a great range for the Mermaid, but sadly this has a lot of start-up and ending lag for the toon, but at least this has great priority. Each piranha fish does 14% (19% fully charged) and mid (high-low knockback fully charged) upward knockback. This isn’t the most useful of moves, but it does clear the path if everyone’s in one little group.
[14 – 19%]

Aerials:

Forward Air: IS REPLACED BY F-TILT (Due to legal reasons?)

Wanted something fancy? Too bad, just that actually using the projectile in the air makes the move even jerkier than before, and also auto-cancels on the touch of the ground like Samus’s side-b.

Backward Air: Frantic Tail

Toon Mermaid gets out of her shell, and she turns around and holds the shell by its edge, and pushes the shell forward 2 stage builder blocks before re-entering the shell. When she’s out of the shell, she will keep flicking the tail up and down at the same time. This has great range, and has low start-up lag, but has a bit of ending lag, but has a lot of landing lag. This also has amazing priority, and the shell can reflect projectiles, this just shows how hard the shell is. The tail whip does 12% and mid-low horizontal knockback, and the shell does 16% and mid-high horizontal knockback. Since this has such amazing priority, moves like Meta Knights Tornado and Snakes Up Tilt will be interrupted, and can link up for early gimps with its range and knockback.
[12/16%]
If you don’t get hit in the middle of this move, you’ll stay in the defence mode still, but if you do get hit, you’ll be in the normal form!

Upward Air: Whirling Hurricane

The Toon opens up her shell more and sticks her arms out wing spread and whistles. After 0.6 seconds, a hurricane appears a stage builder block below the Toon, and then quickly becomes 2.5 stage builder blocks thick, and 4.5 stage builder blocks thick. This automatically makes the mermaid go around and around going upwards at the same time with no control what so ever, but you can use your aerial moves without fail. Does this seem unfair of a recovery? Well, if the opponent gets trapped within the hurricane as well, they can use their aerials as well, and when you reach the top of the hurricane, the Toon enters free-fall, while the opponent doesn’t. so you have to be careful where you use this, and that the Toon also has great mobility even in her free-fall state, so you can use this far out and still get back onto the shore just fine.
[0%]

Downward Air: Bow Pokes

The Toon sticks her bow down vertically, and keeps on prodding downwards for a total of 5 times very quickly. This has better range than it sounds, as the mermaid leans out of her shell a considerable amount, about the same range as King Dededes down-air. This has low start-up, ending and landing lag, which also has great priority, but is quite a thin hit-box however. Each prod does 3%, and low downward knockback. This can gimp the opponent well, and can be a pain if the opponent doesn’t have a good recovery.
[3% x 5]

Grab:

The Toon grabs out forward with both of her arms, and this has the same amount of range as Zeldas grab range. This also has quite low start-up and ending lag as well. All types of grabs have the same amount of range, but dash and pivot are slightly slower.
This can be used from the defence mode, but leaves her in her normal form!

Pummel: Headbutt

^ ^ Exactly that, she headbutts the opponent the same speed as Bowsers, and each hit does 2%, deal with it.
[2%]

Forward Throw: Mermaids Arrow

Toon Mermaid squashes the opponent into the shape of an arrow, and shoots the opponent forward just like the forward tilt uncharged. Talk about mockery here! Also, to add insult to injury, she chuckles afterwards… that *****! This has low start-up lag, and the set knockback of the range of an uncharged forward tilt, and the opponent is able to tech it as well. This does 6%. You can try to follow this up with moves like the dash attack and backward air.
[6%]

Backward Throw: Shell Shocker

The Mermaid sticks the opponent into the back of the shell, and she quickly gets out of the shell on to the top of it, and the shell closes on the opponent. The shell will then spins around and bash off the ground the same speed and range as Sonics back-throw. At the end of this move, the mermaid quickly goes back into her shell. This has quite a bit of start-up and ending lag, but she has constant super armour frames through out the entire duration of this move. This does 9% and mid-low horizontal knockback. This can’t be interrupted in a 3 – 4 person brawl, but it’s not the most effective throw she has.
[9%]

Upward Throw: Float on a Bubble

The Mermaid pokes the opponent in the eyes, and then her bow will be covered in water and she’ll blow into the middle of the bow to form a bubble about the size of 1.5 times a stage builder block. The bubble travels upwards very slowly, like a stage builder block a second. The higher percent the opponents is, the longer the stun is. Also, when the opponent jumps or move of the bubble, they are free to move as they wish. What use does this have ay? Well, hear up, if you hit the bubble with any move that involves a hit-box, the bubble will pop, and the opponent will enter free-fall! This also does 4% and has low ending lag. This can NOT provide as a gimp, as the opponent can DI towards the stage in their free-fall, but this can be a great set-up move at early percents (and then maybe gimp the opponent with its aerials), and a possible Infinite at high percents with the down tilt, and you don’t have to worry about timing of the down tilt, as its effect stays out for so long. Extremely useful!
[4%]

Downward Throw: Hurricane Crush

Toon Mermaid will levitate off the ground a Ganondorf height above the ground, and then a hurricane like the up air will appear only below the mermaid and her shell. After 1 second, the shell goes down towards the ground and crushes the opponent into the ground like Donkey Kongs side-b (and with the exact same button smash technique to get out of it quicker). This has quite a lot of ending lag though, and is only useful at very high percents. This does a total of 12% and does the burial effect I already told you about! This can be a good set-up at high percents, and does a lot of damage, but it isn’t useful at early percents due to the ending lag.
[12%]

Toon Mermaids Playstyle:

Wow, Toon Mermaid is a very defensive character! Her defence mode mechanism is a pain for the opponent, as she takes 1.5 times less knockback, and that she can actually attack in this form is another massive bonus. Not only does she have this mechanic that would make her leave past even maybe the 200% section for Mario, she has very spammable projectile that can provide as a great annoyance for the opponent – and that she can also use this in the air as well. She also can force the opponent to come and face her with using her up and down tilts, as they are powerful if the opponent reads them wrong.

However, with such an annoying wall, the opponents forgetting about the real thing to take out – Toon World. They’ll just turn to the defenceless Toon World, and your spammable moves will be utter useless, as they will barely flinch the opponent, so you have to actual go towards the opponent with your approach aerial (Back air), and go towards the opponent and go for a grab. Forward Throw is a great move to make the opponent go back to their original position and start spamming them again, and when they are at high percents, you can try the infinite which I mentioned, or try to KO the opponent with the down-throw set-up.

Remember, the opponent will be aiming for Toon World, and you’ll realise that if you don’t protect Toon World, you’ll be dead much earlier than those 200% mark.

BACKGROUND

~Barney Calhoun: Black Mesa security guard, pessimistic individual. Age unknown.

As a Security Guard, Barney Calhoun patrols various departments of Black Mesa. Calhoun sees all the scientists fail at their tests and break their equipment. He looks down on the scientists. Barney even nicknamed one of them "D-Bag". He was once called to fix an elevator the scientists claim was broken. Barney complains in his head that he's not in Maintenance, so he shouldn't even be helping them. Once he gets there, all he has to do is push a button to get the elevator working. Of course, he goes on a rant on how stupid they are right in front of them. As he's going on this rant, he sees aliens attacking scientists and security guards through the window. The elevator freaks out and drops 9001 floors, killing the two scientists with him. Now Calhoun has to rely with dumb*** scientists on helping him get out of the facility. But most of all, he has to kill every Headhumper he sees.

"Do you smell something burning?"
-Scientist
"Oh, don't mind that. It's just my smoldering frustration with humanity."
-Barney Calhoun

You are so **** cruel roy_owns. Putting two of Kirby's items together, plus those two are in my top favroite items list. Well, since I love Kirby Air Ride to death, I guess I'll pick the Warp Star. Though the Superspicy Curry was a clasic on Kirby Dreamland, they should had added the Superspicy Curry song from Kirby Deamland in Brawl when you get that item, IMO.

By a narrow margin, I would have to pick the Warp Star.

Why? Because, admit it, it is totally a BLAST (no pun intended) to grab a big shiny star what just appeared out of thin air, entrust your fragile, human life in its sparkly hands, soar high up into Never-never-land, and finally come crashing down with a BOOM that somehow doesn't hurt you.
