What are the origins of your name?
My favorite card is the Dark Magician and I am a Music Major.
(note: My other favorite card is Fire Princess but that was obv. gender misleading)
How were you introduced to Super Smash Bros?
My friends and I bought a TV to play in college and one of them introduced me to ATs, vids of Ken, Isai, Aniki etc. I then entered the competitive Melee scene in HI and the rest is history.
How did you find this site?
By pure coincidence I made an account in August 2006. After my second break up I needed something to keep my mind occupied and I remembered the account and found the Hawaii thread for Melee.
Why do you play Zelda?
Her overall play style is shallow and not very heavy on technical ability. Zelda thrives on playing with smart spacing, prediction and baiting. Ironically she draws power from the Triforce of Wisdom. I didn't choose Zelda. Zelda chose me. Playing as Zelda feels like the most comfortable and natural thing in the world. I saw an opportunity to really take Zelda to a level that had never been seen before and I never looked back.

-I know you’ve played most of the Zeldas here on the boards. What are the biggest weaknesses of Zelda players in general?
Poor basic gameplay (overly rolling, spot dodging, bad DI etc)
-How do you suggest they fix these problems?
Stop playing on auto pilot. Always keep your presence of mind and be constantly thinking while playing.
-What are common mistakes that you see in Zelda players’ zoning strategies?
Poor airdodge decisions, Dins Fire reflex spam and roll/spot dodge spam. Seriously. This applies to everyone. Stop relying on rolling and spot dodging as a defensive reflex. It isn't safe.
-You’re not a highly technical player and you do quite well with her. Do you think that Zelda players benefit from high levels of tech skill?
Only if they know why and when to use it and only if they have a completely firm grasp of the basics.Why do you feel that way? Because having all of the technical execution in the world doesn't matter if you don't know how to balance it with basic attacking and defending.
-You generally don’t counterpick stages against people (you don’t take them to CP stages). Do you feel that there are any good, non-neutral stages for Zelda? Explain your answer.
None that better character can't out perform her on. No matter what non neutral you CP, I can just choose another char and steal the advantage anyway. Obv if you're comfortable wherever then be my guest. But eventually you'll run into a player that will wreck you on your CP because of the char(s) they use so be ready for that.
-You’re well known for your success with Zelda, but a lesser known fact is that you also use a certain winged demon in tournaments as well. Do you think it’s possible to attain such a level with Zelda that having a secondary character is not necessary for winning tournaments?
No. Her two worst match ups are against the two most used characters in tournament. Unless skill is skewed that badly it is not feasible to say that a Zelda can dominate tournaments.

-What other characters you play besides Zelda?
I have no problems using any of the characters. For tournament it would be MK, ICs, Snake, Falco, DDD and Marth
-What is your favorite matchup in Brawl?
Zelda vs Zelda no question.
-Which do you like more: Brawl or Melee? Why?
Brawl because Brawl is all about survival and mindgames.
-Were you surprised when you got into Brawl backroom?
Yes but I am glad that all of my hard work has paid off.
-How does it feel to officially be the best Zelda right now?
It's nice, but I will never be comfortable. I will always be working on keeping that spot.
-Do you ever play matches that don't follow the tournament ruleset? (FFAs, items on etc.)

-Do you play Metaknight only to have a good character for tournaments, or do you actually find him fun to use?
Both. After using Zelda it's very refreshing to use someone with so many options.
-Why don't you post very much on the boards?
Because there's not very much to talk about.

-If you could travel anywhere in the world for free, where would you go?
Any and all tournaments (but not without the Odo Faction)
-What hobbies do you have besides video games?
Majority of my hobbies coincide with games. Video editing, tournament organizing etc.
-Have you ever wished you'd live someplace else than Hawaii?
Everyone I talk to wishes they lived where I do. And I don't blame them.
-Why haven't you submitted any clips for the Zelda CCV yet?
I don't have any clips that meet my standard for video material.

Enough to kill them.
-What aspect of Zelda's design do you like compared to other characters you play?
The fact that she requires almost no tech skill and almost all mindgames.

Light, slow, limited, bad recovery, laggy and easily camped/zoned.
-What advice would you give to aspiring and experienced tourney goers wanting to pick up Zelda?
Ask yourself why you want to learn Zelda in the first place because it would hardly benefit someone already experienced in tournament and would certainly frustrated a new aspiring player.
-Going through each tier, pick one character that you would hate going against.
I don't fear "good characters." I fear good players.
-What is your favourite matchup and/or stage, and why?
Zelda vs Zelda on BF. Super easy to control another Zelda on BF if you're smart with the platforms.

No because those people don't matter to me anyway.

No but it'll probably piss off everyone I beat in Low Tier tournaments.

I am not angry so much as disappointed. And again, the big thing is egos. Check them at the door.

Stepping on them only pisses them off so I would guess so.

It's not so much about using too much of one move, but more about choosing the correct move in the given situation.

Yes I would. Even from the start of Brawl Zelda was obv not high tier or anywhere near the best choice. So it was still a matter of going with what I was comfortable with. If I was picking based on who was good I wouldn't have gone with Zelda either way.

-How did your tournament series begin? That is, what's the story behind it?
I wanted tournaments. Hawaii had none. So I made them myself. Had the help of venues and sponsors and OOS players. I continue to do everything I can to keep the tournaments going.
-Do you think that you will use more MK or more Zelda in the future?
Zelda will always be my most comfortable character.
