Lol Eric. I think a mini tournament for people who aren't going to 0C2 will be weird! Might not have enough though. It seems a lot of people are lazy to go down there except for me. These smashfests down there are usually Richmond Crew + John. >.>

You can probably get Peter and Edmund to go too. Then theres Manuel and Keith. You may get lucky and have enough. If you do have one I would like to congratulate you in winning first and good job for who ever gets 2nd and 3rd. >.> lol

No Canada subforum because I think only 4 provinces actually have a big scene and its split between WC and EC =/.
I don't really see how that makes a difference. This thread has 89 pages and is almost impossible to navigate. Oh well, perhaps some day..... :)

It makes a big difference.
Pages doesn't matter. If this thread had 500 pages they wouldn't make our own subforum for 1 topic.

Canada doesn't have much threads and their aren't to many people in Canada that acually post at all.
All I really see is the B.C. thread Montreal thread, Ottawa thread and the Team Canada for 0C2 thread. 4 threads isn't really much to make a subforum for us. Edmonton I don't think has a thread because they all talk to each other on msn instead.
If we had people all over Canada and not just 4 playing smash then we would probably get a subforum.
I would want a subforum too but its not necessary.

So just to sum it all up in 1 sentence. 4 threads is not enough for a subforum.

Someone host a smashfest soon!!! Me bored!

If there were a Canada subforum, there would be substantially more than 4 threads. And hopefully none of them would contain 4,000 replies like this one. It's not easy to find information on Canadian regional Smash when all the threads are a hundred pages long. There's no organization. There's a lot of other Canada threads that are buried in the back pages of this forum that go unnoticed because it's simply too much to wade through. And nobody wants a bunch of duplicates of old threads being re-created.

I don't know, Canada is not small, and if these are justified:

Pit Stop - 2,275 posts

RPG Headquarters - 5,840 posts

Announcements Discussion - 3,172 posts (with only 4 threads having actively been posted on for the entire month of July)

...I don't see why Canada shouldn't get a board as well. I think Europe deserves one too. The principle function of this message board community is to unite with other Smashers around the world and why not make that as simple and streamlined as possible, right? :)

A donair is a variation on the Turkish mutton dish, döner kebap, which means "rotating roasting meat." The donair was introduced in Halifax, Nova Scotia and is served in a rolled pita bread, commonly with a sweet sauce, tomatoes and onions. However, since the donair's inception, many variations on the original recipe have come to fruition as well, including adding hot sauces, cheese and garlic.

And here is a list of exemplary subforums.

Yes despite this evidence and talking (I've talked to a few mods when this thread was in the Tournament Discussion room, before the split into regions) the mods still decided to move this to International. First, yes Canada is not badly populated and gamers are always around, but I think the USA does not really realize exactly how many we are, maybe because it is so small compared to their country?

Europe also has a huge smash community, much larger than Canada's, and they get put into International as well. Now I won't really complain because this was NOT my decision, the mods chose this and I shall abide by it. If you really feel strongly for a Canadian subforum, then by all means PM a mod and see what happens.

Also, this thread isn't that unorganized. When an event happens, we know Adam, Nik, John or Eric will post something up. It will get seen. If there is a tournament, it goes straight to the Tournament Discussion, and the tournament thread is the most important!

Props overall for having a lot of Canadian pride though, but after a while of discussing matters here in International, I don't think any of us really mind it.

This thread has 89 pages (by my viewing settings). The first 87 are useless if you want to know what's up currently. Tournaments always have their own tournament up in Tournament discussion and you'll know it's happeneing because we'll all be talking about it here. If you are new and watn to find your region, you should use the "Search Function" and create a thread if you can't find it. I think Canada only has like 4 or 5 areas with a large concentration of Smashers =/

Remember,
All of BC = Same Population as Toronto.
All of Canada = Same Population as California

We have more land, they have more people =P

If you have somewhere to be, don't bother reading this....

When an event happens, we know Adam, Nik, John or Eric will post something up.
That may be so, but for a brand new member to the Smash community who doesn't know the names and just wants to find some people in his/her area, it's a little rough. Like, if I was from New Brunswick...I'd have a hard time bringing myself to wade through 4,000 posts in a general Canada thread just to try and find others from New Brunswick. Sure, you could use the Search function which might be the smart thing to do, but realistically, who's gonna do that? Whereas, if you had a separate forum for Canada, you'd have like 3 pages of thread titles tops to look for a New Brunswick thread instead of 100 pages of random posts that don't even have titles.

I'm not actually terribly passionate on the issue or anything, otherwise I would be posting to a moderator instead of just thickening this thread with my random, uninteresting observations. :) But I read the thread concerning the renaming of this forum from "Rest of World" to "International Community," and the main reasoning for not having Europe/Canada-specific threads was because of bandwidth usage. But when our New Brunswickian friend waltzes into this forum trying to find other New Brunswickians and doesn't right away, you know what he'll do? He'll probably create a NEW New Brunswick thread and thus creating more wasted space on the community simply because it wasn't immediately obvious where the existing New Brunswick thread was located. Thus, a more streamlined approach to organizing Canadian and European threads would actually reduce bandwidth usage, albeit maybe only slightly but SWF simply doesn't have control over the number of users in the community regardless.

On the outside chance that my rambling hasn't been boring enough, I figured I'd waste away a portion of my afternoon collecting an example or two:

Some of these threads are pretty much exact duplicates of one another, some of them are not. Obviously, there's gonna be more than one Toronto thread because there's gonna be more than one Toronto tournament and/or event, but a good chunk of these are just new SWF members looking for people in their area. If it were a Canada-specific forum, pretty much all the Saskatchewan threads would be merged into one and a new member from Saskatchewan wouldn't have any difficulty finding it. As it stands now, our Saskatchewanian Smash companion would probably just end up starting another thread, thereby adding to the overall load on the server. :dizzy:

Oh, and don't even get me started on Europe: :)

I mean, jeez, this list of threads makes it look like we could have a Holland-specific forum that would probably flourish just fine! I'd be curious to see what the International Community forum would look like if we took Europe and Canada out of there and put them in their own sections. You know what? I'll betcha it'd be a lot easier for a Smasher from Papua New Guinea to find out what's going on in his area, just as it would be easier for the Europeans and Canadians to keep tabs on what's happening in theirs. Who knows? Over time, you might even see the need to have a South American-specific forum!

So yes, that's my unnecessarily laborious post for the day. :) I guess my point is....someone from Halifax, Nova Scotia (population: ~350,000) who is trying to find other Halifax smashers to arrange a tournament with shouldn't have to post amongst all the threads from every single other country in the world but the US (population: ~6,201,459,994). Because there aren't that many Halifax smashers. And by the time another one comes around, his thread will be buried under three pages of Dutch tournaments, Toronto-area smash finders and Puerto Rican foreign language results postings. At which point, our good buddy from Halifax creates yet another Halifax thread.

EDIT: Randall00 I ****en LOVE your sig
Me too. :)

Actually, for Canada it'd be easier to group us with the USA regions in my opinion =/ Like stick us with the Pacific Northwest or whatever the WA/OR people are in. We're closer to Washington than California is after all and they're the same region iirc. Ontario would probably like to be grouped with New York since they're so close.

Mmm...not really. I don't think Montreal has seen New Yorkers come to our tournaments yet, they're all too afraid of our skillz I suppose =P. But it would be kinda awkward to be grouped with those categories because...well, we never get to play Americans, so why bother? It would also make the forum cleaner and more organized if they seperated countries and regions in countries instead...

I think a seperate Canadian and European sub-section would be a great idea, and I support Randall's notion. However, it would probably be divided into maybe 3 sections: East Coast, Central, and West Coast. Maybe a 4th for North, if there are any. I dunno.

I'm not hardcore about the idea though, I mean, the Montreal thread is about to hit 5000 posts, so...in yo' face!

Well, Skypal (in Washingtom) seems to come up here quite a bit and I know a few of our smashers have gone down to Washingtom at least twice. I know that a few eastern smashers are going down to New York (or already did). Heck, there's more chance of us being able to play Washington then it is for us to play someone in Montreal =P

Wow why does everyone take the 22nd street bus?
I'm like the only one in Vancouver that acually takes the 407 bus that is right beside the knight street bridge. That takes you straight to Richmond center where you can get on the 410 bus. It takes me a max of 1 hour to get to Adam or Eric's house. 1.5 hours if the busses are running late.
The 407 bus leaves once per hour on the 5th minute of each hour. xx:05
