SWF Orchestra

Hello there! I have a really ambitious project for SWF. What if we could make an orchestra? Each musician would need to make a video of him or herself playing an instrument while following a metranome and a score. Afterwards, our video editors and soundtrack specialists will mash them up together. If you have any skill in music, video editting, or soundtrack mashups... continue reading!

How to Apply

Of course, we will need a good deal of preperation before we pull of such a feat. If you are interested, apply by responding to this thread! Before you do of course, please understand that you will need to be able to SEND us your songwork... So if you have no video camera or recording device... you can't take part in this. For convenience sake please organize your application in following way:

1) Your Name
2) Your Instrument(
If applicable)
3) Style of Music(If applicable)
4) Experience
5) Skills and Equipment(Do you have nice audio-mixing software? Are you skilled with videos?)

Organization

After I get enough intersted people in, I will split you up into groups and begin our work.

Questions for You

Do you have any suggestions? Please let me know all your thoughts... as I can use all the help I can get. If you also have any kind of idea what kind of score we can use... that could be great. We most likely will have a great diversity of instrumentalists from different styles... so keep that in mind while brainstorming on what score to use.

WARNING

Please do not be offended if I am not able to use all of you. If you applied and did not get to participate, I will keep you in mind for the second one. Also, please understand that I have not organized anything of this scope before; this has a high chance of failure. That being said... Don't get discouraged. We'll learn and keep moving on until we make this thing work.

1) Your Name: Werekill
2) Your Instrument: Trumpet, Guitar, Bass, Keyboard (some), and vocals (if I absolutely have to)
3) Style of Music(If applicable): Doesn't really matter.
4) Experience: Several years on trumpet, a year and a half on guitar (I stopped a long time ago to play bass, and I later switched back to guitar), and a few years on bass.
5) Skills and Equipment: I have enough equipment to record stuff from my laptop, but that's about it.

If we don't have many people for an instrument, will one guy record the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd parts?
Edit: I'm doing this off of an iPod, and don't feel like struggling with it anymore, so I'm putting my edit here. I'll fix it later. I forgot to say that ALL of my trombone experience is in a jazz setting.

Name: proxy, Alex. Basically what ever makes you happy haha

instrument: tuba primarily, but also trombone, baritone, a minor experience with the trumpet and guitar

style: all of my experience for wind instruments comes from band class, but I have gone to many camps strictly for brass to learn (fsu music camps, etc). Guitar I have played all kinds, and JUST got into classical. Not very good at it yet haha.

Experience: tuba for 7 years, trombone and baritone for 3, trumpet for 1, guitar for 2.

Skills and equipment: I have the stuff to record myself and a small background in editing videos (used to edit peoples halo montage XD)

Name : Charmander, Joey
Instrument : Keyboard
Style of Music : Usually video game music
Experience : around one half-year
Skills and Equipment : I have a webcam on my laptop, I use this to record videos. Also WMM.
1) Your Name: Cameron, or GorditoBoy.
2) Your Instrument: Piano and drums. I can get my friend do play guitar (chords only) in you need him.
3) Style of Music: I'm classically trained. And I've been playing pop music by ear
4) Experience: Nine years on piano, two on drums.
5) Skills and Equipment: Skills are just in music lol. I don't have any real audio equipment. ): Sorry.
Well if it's that important and in risk of dying, I guess I could lend my admittedly limited skills. Besides, it sounds like it could be cool:
1) GoldShadow
2) Guitar
3) Rock
4) ~8 months; can't do anything too good or fancy yet, but let me know what you need and if I fit the bill, I'll give it a shot
Never been on this sub-forum before. Sounds like a fun idea.

1)Name - SuperBowser
2)Instrument - Piano
3)Style - Prefer classical, but I'll play anything
4)Experience - Grade 8
5)Equipment - During term-time I have a nice digital piano (my prized possession). It has a few ''voices''. I think I can record music straight on to a USB pen and upload it!
Dark Horse
Instrument: Guitar
Preferred styles: Metal
Experience: 2 years
Guess I could help.

Now to get some recording equipment.

1) Your Name: Global Wolf
2) Your Instrument: Piano, violin. I can play many other instruments at low levels.
3) Style of Music: Trained in classical. I can do anything though except maybe metal and similar things.
4) Experience: 9 years for piano, 3 years for violin. I have a pretty good music sense and perfect pitch.
5) Skills and Equipment: This is the thing I'm most iffy about... I'll try my best to make good quality recordings. If I can't get it to sound nice just take me off.

This sounds really fun. I really hope I can get stuff to work.

I really like your idea. I have no recording equipment, though. Otherwise, I'd be happy to play piano (music major at UNT) for you.

Hope this turns out to be a success.

Um, I can make a beat on a synthesizer program, but that's probably not what you're looking for, considering that the video would just be me clicking the play button on the computer and letting it run. And yeah, I'm definitely no expert, so it would probably take me a while to make something decent.

You guys should make one of them rock songs interwined with classical music like Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, etc.

One more and I'll send out PM's.

I've decided that this first collaboration is going to be the "test" one. It'll be simpler and shorter than what I've planned... but its sucess or failure will help me figure out how to create a better one.

Call this the "practice orchestra."

Maybe we can rearrange something from the brawl/melee soundtrack?

Also, it might be helpful to list all the member info in the OP. That way it's easier to organize and see who's doing what.

Guess it won't hurt.

1) Terywj.
2) Piano, keyboard, vocals.
3) Classical, jazz, contemporary, improv, video game music.
4) I've been playing piano for 9 years. The first 4-6 years were all classical but since then I've ventured out into comtemporary and jazz songs, literally picking up what I can. I've been "trained" in vocals from age 8-13, but my copmuter mic sucks so don't count on that.
5) As stated above, I'm a veteran piano player who has a wide reachbase of music. I've worked on my improv for the past 4 years and have become pretty adapt at playing from ear (I can pickup almost any song by listening to it a couple times, but sheet music is always appreciated). I've been told I'm a talented vocalist but again my laptop mic has poor quality so I wouldn't advise having vocals. I don't think we'll need vocals for something like this anyway. I have novice abilities on the drums but I don't actually have a set so lol.

2)Instrument:[Just listing the instruments I have available atm]Guitar(Classical/Electric),Violin,Keyboard
3)Style:Classical/Folk preferred. Can do anything but technical Jazz.
4)Experience:3+ years guitar, 4+ Keyboard,~1 Classical violin.

Oh, about the song choice, how about a poll with a wide selection of Smash-related music styles/genres?The Orchestra could always do the most popular 1st then queue the rest of songs/arrangements to perform at a later date.

The Orchestra sounds like a very promising idea, you all have my full support!

Hope the test went well :s

If we can get a list of exactly who plays what instrument I can help arrange a piece... I think. :O I haven't tried before but I have perfect pitch so I should be able to tell what note is what.
