Chains of One World

So I've read some of the fan-fics on here and decided to give it a try. This is the first fan-fic I have EVER written of any kind, so I apologize in advance if it sucks horribly, but I do have a storyline planned for his so I might continue it.

Thanks,
-HenshinHero

Chapter One

Fireballs crashed all around as they exploded on impact with a litter of cinders spewing forth, dancing in the air. Through the haze of blistering heat stood a shortly, stubby man dawning a red cap with a midnight shaded mustache, within the starving flames. Another ball of fire came barreling toward the man desperate to spread its life across the ground below. The man lunged to his side as the flames devoured the tapestry, clinging on to anything that would extend their existence. Beads of sweat reached his brow as a loud roar shook the entire castle.

The man’s eyes met with that of a beast’s; a turtle-like monster with horns and razor sharp claws that should only exist in nightmares. The monster opened its mouth, releasing a stream of fire. The two had been captured in this stalemate for quite some time now. The monster too blind, to see his own home begin ripped away from him by its own rage. It would not give his enemy an inch, it had to keep him at bay, it had to guard its prize…

Behind the creature stood a trembling young blond-haired woman wearing an elegant pink dress, the very reason why this man was risking his life. She was shaking more and more violently, taunted by watching her savior disappear behind a wall of flames.

“Mario….” she whispered as not reach the ears of her ever-persistent captor known as Bowser.

Bowser began stomping his feet wildly in a tantrum and charged at the one known as Mario. He slashed in a crazed frenzy as the flames were whipped away. Mario knew these attacks were much too unpredictable to get in close, but he realized with surrounding fire, that his maneuverability took a crushing blow.

A large stump-like tail suddenly connected with Mario‘s gut, sweeping him away like trash into a pillar.

“Mario!” the worried woman cried.

Mario shook off the impact only to see rows of teeth coming at him. He instinctively jumped upward as Bowser chomped down on the pillar. Several slashes came at him attempting to swat Mario way like a fly.
He rolled to the back end of the column as the turtle king struggled to loosen his jaw. He pounded his foot into the unstable column, bringing down on Bowser like a house of cards.

Wasting no time, Mario ran to Peach, comforting her with a confident and assured expression. He wrapped his hands tightly around Peach’s as an avalanche of debris began to rain down around them.

As they headed for the door, a support beam sailed over their heads smashing down in front of them. Mario turned around to see Bowser, who appeared to only have been dazed by his best efforts. Quickly, he gestured Peach around the beam as she pushed on the door.

“Mario let’s go,” she told him opening the door to their prison and stepping out into the warmth of the sun, banishing the enveloping shadows within the castle.

Mario nodded, but felt a crushing pressure as he attempted to leave. Bowser had gotten grip of his foot and hurled him back into the blazing room. The crackling of the beast was all Peach heard as more wreckage descended blocking the door.

Mario watched the light diminish as Bowser’s tail came careening towards him leaving him with no option other than to leap up. This proved a mistake however, there was no safe place to land with all that fire, leaving him a sitting duck in mid-air.
The self-proclaimed king plucked his target out of the air like a piece of fruit from a tree.
Bowser snarled triumphantly at the sight of his captured prey squirming around like a worm on a hook.

His claws began to constrict even tighter, as Mario noticed a large shadow looming over Bowser’s head. A support beam plummeted downward, crashing onto the turtle's head. The look of victory soon faded as Bowser stumbled around in a drunken waltz as a curtain of black dropped over his eyes. Mario slipped away, leaving Bowser to topple over in an old played out “TIMBER!” cliché fashion.

Mario let out a sigh, standing over his fallen nemesis. He frantically began to search for a way out, but the fire was making it appear to be a lost cause. It seemed there was nothing to do, but fall deeper into despair, when something in the corner of his eye caught his attention. It seemed to be cannon from the looks of it most likely a last ditch effort to be used against him if the situation was a bit more controlled. Mario sighed dragging the unconscious koopa, which was nearly as sweat building as the castle inferno itself. The cannon had a crank on the side of it upon further observation and Mario began vigorously winding it.

Suddenly an oval shaped missile expelled, exploding in a collision with the wall swallowing it in a bright light, leaving a gaping hole in its wake. Mario jaw dropped, feeling lucky that Bowser never had the chance to fire that thing at him. He lugged himself and his enemy outside the castle, coughing and breathing heavily as he sucked in all the fresh air he could. Mario could hear the panicked cries of the koopa who were scurrying around like ants, trying to take care of the disaster that had inflicted their home carrying buckets of water.

Charred and bruised, Mario patted his clothes as black smog lifted from them, beating himself like an old carpet. He left Bowser lying comfortably on a blanket of grass; his brethren would discover him eventually. He walked the familiar path that connected Peach’s castle to the koopa’s each step filled with the feeling of nostalgia. His body was throbbing as pain coursed throughout his body like a virus. He squinted as he saw figures beginning to sketch themselves out over the horizon. He grinned as he saw it was an army of Toads marching down with Peach leading the way. His legs had turned into jelly at this point and he drifted off to sleep, collapsing on the road.

it's too wordy. not every noun needs 1-2 modifiers; you don't need to explain every single detail in every single scene.

a dazed Mario’s defeated eyes
“Mario….” she whispered as to not reach the ears of her ever persistent captor known as Bowser, the leader and king of a turtle race known as the koopas; who desired nothing than to kidnapped her and take rule over her kingdom, in fact all of this was simply a routine now..
sweeping him away like trash into a pillar followed swiftly by the echoing cry of his name from the worried girl

a lot of syntax stuff as well, you've got a lot of sentences that need something to break them up.

Chapter 2

The grass swayed against the gentle breeze before being crushed beneath a pair of black boots. Two hooded figures stood up top the cliff, overlooking the mushroom kingdom.

“Is it time?” one asked anxiously.

The other threw his hand into the air, ordering silence. “It would appear that we have been followed”.

The two turned to see a young man clothed in a green tunic and hat walking toward them. He withdrew a sword tied to his back, the sleek, polished blade glistening as it met with the sky.

“Link?” one of the hooded men said in a surprised tone. “I thought we had seen the last of you”.

“Stop right there!” he shouted, pointing his sword at the duo. The second figure was bouncing uncontrollably, letting his hood fall past his shoulders, revealing his short, messy moonlit hair.

“May I take of him?, He asked caressing his lips with his thumb, before chewing on it. “He obviously didn’t learn anything from last time”.

“Alright” his partner agreed. “If we don’t take care of him he could be trouble, but rendezvous at the target area once you’ve finished Rue”.

“Yeah, yeah” Rue replied, his eyes focused on Link.

The remaining cloaked figure sighed as he dove from the cliff.

“I’ll just defeat you and move on to him,” Link informed, getting only hysterical laughter from Rue.

“Let’s have some fun!” he cried charging at Link, as two hidden blades shot from his sleeves. Link’s sword came crashing down, as the two hidden blades formed a scissor shape to intercept the blow. The two stood face to face as one struggled to overpower the other.

Rue suddenly jumped back, letting Link’s sword drop to the ground, immediately lunging forward, blades stuck outward. Link brought his sword to his side as Rue’s blade came scraping against it. The second hidden blade was not far behind, thrusting itself at Link’s chest. He instinctively pivoted himself around the second dagger, going in for a horizontal slash, only to be blocked by the fast reflexes of his opponent.

The symphony of clashing metal filled their ears as they both swung restlessly, their weapons just bouncing against each other. Link could only watch as a smile of enjoyment and excitement spread across his enemy’s face look of pure innocence that only a child should possess. Link jumped back, his hand throbbing from the merciless vibrations of the hilt.

“His attacks are too fast,” he thought, dropping the shield from his back. “There’s no way I’m ending this early”.

“This is starting to feel an awful lot like last time huh?” Rue snickered.

The weapons collided once again. Rue’s second blade swiftly targeting an open area, but was quickly deflected by Link’s shield, batting Rue’s arm above his head, The shield then thrown into his face. Rue stumbled back freeing Link’s sword, allowing him to swing at the unsuspecting target that gripped his face. A quick sidestep cause Link’s blade to return empty-handed, a single piece of black fabric falling to the grass.

Rue threw his hood back on, shadows falling over his face once again. This game had gotten too rough for him.

“..I’ll kill you…” he spoke softly. When out of nowhere an explosion shook the area as a cloud of smoke rose like tower in the distance.

“It seems that was the signal….” Rue said, walking off the cliff. Link ran to the edge, peering down, but was much to steep for him to take pursuit. He continued to scan the mountainside looking for anyway to climb down, when a manic white and yellow clown face arose staring at him.

“Ah!” Link cried, slashing with his sword.

“Who dares to attack the might king Bowser!” a voice boomed.

Link glanced upward, the thing he attacked appeared to be a large basket of some kind hovering by a green propeller spinning rapidly located at the bottom.

“I have no time to deal with you! There was an explosion at the princess’ castle!” The turtle roared staring Link down. “Who could have done something like this besides me? I better get there quick!”

He stood there in awe, completely taken away by the creature. Nevertheless, did it just say it was heading toward that explosion?

“Um, excuse me!” Link shouted failing his arms.

“What do you want? Don’t you think I will forget about the damage done to my koopa car! I‘ll get you later” Bowser snarled as he glanced down.

“I really need to get to that castle!” Link blurted.

“Peach’s castle? Bowser asked him, the name having no significance to Link. “Wait could you be an enemy of Mario!” He shouted excitedly.
Link nodded sheepishly. He had no idea what this creature was babbling about, but it looked as if being an enemy of this Mario character would ensure him a lift. The clown-faced vehicle lowered itself as Bowser gestured him on.

“Any enemy of Mario is a friend of mine!” he declared cheerfully. “I was just on my way over there to deliver some payback and retrieve my precious princess”.

“Your princess?” Link retorted hoisting himself into the machine. Shuddering at the thought of the princess of a beast such as this.

“So the deal is I help you with getting to the castle and you help me get my princess,” Bowser told him.

Link nodded again, not knowing to what he was agreeing to, perhaps those men in the black cloaks were after his princess? So helping him might just help him meet his own agenda as well. The two made their ascent, speeding of to the castle.

Chapter 3

The man titled the rim of his green hat as he scratched the surface of his mustache, resting himself against the wall. Garbed in a green shirt and blue overalls was none other than Mario’s younger brother Luigi, who had just been informed of his brother’s condition. His eyes bounced around like ping-pong balls, as he watched the marching feet of Peach, pace about the marble floor in front of the door where Mario was currently resting.

“I’m sure my bro will be fine,” Luigi stated casually. Attempting to breach the awkward silence, when a large rumble galloped throughout the echoing halls. A chorus of shrills soon followed from alarmed residents of the castle.

“What was-a that?” Luigi cried, getting back to his feet.

“It came from the throne room!” Peach gasped, running down the hall. The large twin doors leading to the room flew open as Luigi and Peach busted inside. The wall had been blown apart with an elder looking Toad covered in a blanket of rubble, clutched onto his cane, struggling to get up.

“Toadsworth!” the worried Princess yelled, coming to his aid. “What happened? Is it Bowser?”

A figure emerged from the smoke of the explosion, but the shilloute did not resemble that of the turtle tyrant. A long black coat dragged across the floor, presenting himself before them, a single Toad squirming in his grasp.

“This little thing was kind enough to show me the Princess’ room,” he laughed tossing the limp body. Luigi lunged, intercepting the wounded Toad from the air. He could hear the painful sharp intakes of breath as it tired to open its eyes. Luigi placed him gently on the ground, turning to the mysterious guest. He wanted to say something, but his lips could not form the words as they died in his throat.

“Who are you?” Peach asked in a scolding tone.

“Me?” The man retorted. “I’m simply here to eradicate this castle”.

“Wot? You can’t!” Toadsworth shouted, collapsing in Peach’s arms.

“Mama Mia! Let’s get out of here princess!” Luigi exclaimed.

“What a pity cowardice is” the man said with a sigh, suddenly appearing behind Luigi, sending him flying with a swift kick, out of the gaping hole from which he had entered.

A loud humming noise drowned out the saddened cries of Peach and a lone arrow whistled through the room. The hooded man spun around, his coat lifting off the ground as the projectile came piercing through it, taking the stolen piece of cloth, pinning it to the wall in front of him. Hovering in plain view was Bowser holding an unconscious Luigi, with Link leaping from the floating craft, into the castle. His steady hand allowing another arrow to soar from the tip of his bow, the man on impulse, shifted to his side letting it pass him.

“It seems Rue wasn’t able to do his job,” he concluded.

“Bowser what have you done to Luigi!” Peach yelled.

“I haven’t done anything!” Bowser snapped. “The little coward feinted when I saved him; you should be thinking me princess!”

“Wait this is your princess?” Link said dumbfounded. She was not how he pictured at all, which was most likely a good thing.

“His princess?” Peach gasped in disgust.

“Please miss, go with Bowser he’ll see you to safety” Link said keeping another arrow pointed at the enemy.

“I can’t,” she told him, staring at the pair of unconscious Toads.

“I’ll take care of them,” Link promised.

Peach did not know why, but she found herself agreeing to the strange man’s terms, heading toward the koopa car.

“Brilliant idea Link!” Bowser roared triumphantly, as they ascended to the clouds.

“Why are you helping us?” said Peach baffled.

“No one gets to destroy the Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom but me!” Bowser announced confidently. “Wait a minute, who is that?” His eyes came across a man with flowing silver hair, and clothing identical to the man who had attacked the castle. He held a dagger out from his sleeve, hurling it at the escapees. Bowser couldn’t veer away, the weapon impaling the propeller, causing the craft to quickly began to lose altitude.

“Make this thing go up!” Peach screamed.

“Hey you don’t know how to pilot this thing!” Bowser replied angrily. The clown car was lost in a downward spiral, crashing onto the roof of the castle, spilling the passengers out.

“Hey Terra! I’m here!” he yelled loudly. “I caught these guys trying to escape!”

Back inside the castle the one called Terra groaned in annoyance.
“I told that idiot not use our names”. Link saw this as an opening and let another arrow sped at its target. Terra kicked up a piece of debris, catching the arrow, as the both fell at his feet.

“What are you going to do to this place?” Link interrogated.

“I think you already know the answer to that,” Terra laughed. “The Mushroom Kingdom will vanish today”.

Grinding his teeth together, Link threw his bow aside withdrawing his sword and shield from off his back.

“I’ll end this all right here,” he told Terra charging at him. His sword came up short as Terra sprung backward, throwing his hands up. A dark aura formed above his palms as two lances materialized from them. Link watched as the lances flew at him with a simple flick of Terra’s fingers. He brought his shield to his face just as one of them collided into it , narrowly slapping away the second with his sword.

“It’ll be hard to defeat him if I can’t get close,” Link thought. “Who are these people?, Why do they have such strange power?”

Terra waved his hands gracefully, orchestrating his weapons for another strike. Link rolled to his side, avoiding the tip of the on of the blades. He darted for Terra at the same time the other lance came up beside him. Link swung his sword, bringing it into the ground with a mighty blow. His stomach dropped, while another lance appeared out of nowhere from behind Terra. The lance grazed his arm, hooking his sleeve in the process, sticking it to a wall. The was a metallic echo from the sword and shield landing on the floor slipping from Link’s fingers.

Trying to unhinge himself with his free hand, the second lance was flung across the room promptly pinning his other arm as well.

Terra was stood with a bored and arrogant posture. Link could tell beneath the hood that masked him from the world, he was wearing a wide grin having the joy of watching him hang helplessly.

“I hope you realize now, how futile this all really was,” he lectured, raising two fingers, as the last remaining lance mimicked.

“Zelda…..”

Link breathed that final word, as he closed his eyes, when he suddenly heard Terra moaning irritably and the sound of metal, clashing on the tilted floor. He opened his eyes and there was a man in a red hat and overalls, the lance now lying dormant beneath his foot.

“Who is this guy?”…………….

Chapter 4

Teeth grinded together like blades of a chainsaw, showing the terror that awaited the one who made the mistake of causing these jaws to bear themselves. His vehicle lay defeated behind him, nothing more than a smoldering mess. The angered king growled loudly, slashing madly at the one responsible.

Rue laughed, ducking the first set of swings before launching from that position, bringing his knee into the massive beast’s jaw. Bowser staggered away, too proud to reveal his pain. Blasts of fire rapidly shot from his mouth, and Rue was quickly lost within the storm of flames.

“Don’t destroy the castle!” Peach cried. Watching the flames litter the roof. Bowser turned to give her a sharp glance, when Rue leaped over the reaching hands of the towering inferno. He swiftly dove down, landing his foot into Bowser’s chest sliding the creature back toward Peach and Luigi.

Rue folded his arms in confusion. “You can breathe fire? But I thought you were a turtle? Oooooh are you a turtle dragon!”

“I’m the mighty king of the koopas! That‘s all you need to understand!” Bowser snapped back, suddenly finding the energy to jump to his feet.

“W…what is-a going on?”
Luigi had returned to consciousness, his groggy eyes adjusting to the sight of Bowser snorting heatedly.

“Ah! BOWSER!” he shouted, diving behind the wrecked clown car. “Peach what is going on?” he asked peeking over it slowly.

“No time for that!” The koopa hollered. “Make yourself useful why don’t cha?”

Before Luigi could protest, a large claw swooped down on him, lifting his shaking body like a prize from a novelty coin machine. His body was hurled, not unlike that of a harpoon, sailing toward the hooded figure, screaming the entire way.

“Bowser you brute! Peach scolded, unable to take her eyes off Luigi; the human missile.

“Oh what’s this?” Rue thought rather amused, hopping upward as Luigi passed from underneath him. However, he was too late to discover the stream of fire aimed at him, enveloping his body without a hesitation. Rue’s body landed hard on the ground, frantically patting the cinder that still crawled on him.

Bowser let out a growl, upon seeing the man virtually unscathed. “He can’t even make a decent distraction,” he thought, glancing at Luigi, who came clattering down at the opposite end of the castle’s summit.

“Let’s finish this,” Rue stated, withdrawing his second dagger.
………………………………...................................... .................................................. ....

Mario ripped the lances from the wall, freeing Link. The weapons were quickly summoned back to Terra’s aid, who seemed to be observing the situation.

“T..thanks” Link said, grasping his arm. “Who are you anyway?”

“Mario” he responded. Scanning the peculiarly garbed boy. “Who are you? I have never seen you before.”

“Well, I’m not from around here” he replied.

“Wait? Mario?” Link thought. This is the one who captured the princess? He shook his head; this was no time to dwell on that now, if this person was coming to his aid, then he would be a fool to make an enemy out of him now.

“Now that introductions are over, how about we finish this?” Terra suggested. His lances shooting off like missiles.

“Be careful, this guy can move his weapons in any direction without having to touch them,” Link warned.

Mario flipped over one of lances in a crescent-shape, displaying some agile maneuvers that would make even an acrobat a bit envious, as Link batted them away with his shield. He was surprised to see he was able to move in such a way for a man of his build.
Terra called his arsenal of weapons back, just as Link and Mario were close enough to launch a counterattack. The two hurriedly switched to a defensive manner, while the lances started to thrust violently. Keeping his graceful hand gestures, Terra attacked with the long handle of a single lance, knocking them to the floor. The red clothed plumber, sprung off his hands, regaining his footing and Link took the blow with his sword.

“Close combat will not work” Link panted heavily sheathing his sword. “Time to change tactics.”

Mario watched a boomerang fly from the strange warriors grasp, but the projectile was instantly hit out of the air.

“What are you not getting?” Terra asked rhetorically. “It’s pointless I-”

A small bomb dropped at the gloating foe, the enemy barely had the opportunity to send one of the lances rocketing upward impaling the explosive to the ceiling. The bomb let out one final cry as it ruptured in forceful outburst, the sun shining down through the newly created skylight. Mario threw his hands over his head, pointing at the destruction.

“No more bombs!” he pleaded. “We cannot damage the castle anymore”.

“Sorry…but this is the only way,” Link admitted. “If we leave things as they are now, this guy will annihilate the entire place…trust me” he continued to say, reaching for another bomb.

Mario knew he was right, embarrassed at his own naïve view. However, this fight had to be resolved fast; he still needed to check on his brother and the princess. He rummaged through the depths of his pocket, pulling out an orange flower. Link observed it in shock; he could swear that it had eyes. Mario crushed the flower in his fist, as a strange light radiated from his body. His hat and shirt turned to a snow-white color and his overalls became a dark crimson.

“W…what is this?” Link thought. This Mushroom kingdom was surely a place enshrouded with mystery.

“I have a plan,” Mario whispered. “Just find another opening for your bomb”.

With a plan set in motion, Mario charged. Terra’s artillery embodiment swarmed in as Link stood back impatiently, seeing the nimble antics of his ally.

Mario counted off as he evaded the relentless strikes at his body.

“One…two… three!”

It had to be now; the enemy had just attacked with all his weapons it would take a few seconds to return them back to his side. Link needed no signal and could see Terra was completely open, he tossed a bomb awaiting the fruits of their labor.

“I see” Terra said almost impressed, “A valiant effort indeed”.

He shifted his body, the bomb flying off behind him. Mario had anticipated something like this and prepared his secret attack. He held his hand out in front of his face and a swirl of orange and red began to stir in his palm and departed after the explosive. Terra’s eyes widened as the bomb and fireball shared a deadly kiss, detonating directly in his blind spot. The explosion spit him into a wall as he disappeared among the wreckage. Mario was blown back as his clothes reverting to normal. Link lifted his head from the protective cover of his arms, the rubble remained unmoved acting as a grave for their mysterious assailant. The hyrulain breathed a sigh of relief, hurrying to check on Mario. He lay on the battle torn floor, wearing the same happy and relived expression. Link offered his hand, hoisting him up.

“Mama Mia! I still have to check on the others!” he panicked. Moreover, as if on queue, two bodies fell into the room as the ceiling gave-way.

“Luigi, Bowser?” Mario announced startled. The pair seemed utterly exhausted, neither bothering to care that they were on top of one another.

“Hey Terra! Terra!” an excited voice cheered. “I beat up a turtle…..dragon thing!”

A tremble rushed throughout Link’s being like a virus, causing him to reach for his sword. The group stared up at Rue, who beamed down a happy-carefree grin.

“Hey you made it!” he exclaimed pointing at the swordsman, but soon turned his attention to Mario.
“Mustache man…is this your friend too?”

he revealed an unconscious princess over his right shoulder. Mario gritted his teeth, while Rue chuckled at the exact reaction he hoped to receive.

“Nobody move or she gets it ok?” he negotiated, leaping down.
“Whoa you guys really did a number on this place”.

Mario and Link were statues, only filling with more anger as they were subjugated to the childish stranger’s taunts.

“Hey Terra, buddy! You dead?” Rue yelled.

Terra suddenly unearthed himself, quickly dropping to one knee.

“I told you not to use my name….moron”

“He’s alive!” Link blurted in disbelief.

“HAHA! Look at you you’re all beat up!” Rue pointed out, showing his annoying bratty attitude was not spared on comrades either.

“Its no matter…..I can sense it, he found it,” Terra informed.

“Oh did he?” Rue asked. “I was wondering where that guy was….”

“There was a third member!” Link shouted. “Was he there too when you arrived in Hyrule!”

There was no response, in fact, there was no sound at all, and only a bright light that appeared outside the castle. It beckoned all to see its ominous glow, and Mario found himself unable to turn away. The light pierced the clouds as darkness infected the sky.

“Hmm, we calculated “it” was here at the castle, but I guess we were wrong” Terra mumbled.

“MARRRIIIIOOOOOOO!”

Luigi had awoken and was running in circles, wailing like a banshee pointing a rattling finger at Mario

“Luigi, what’s wrong?” his sibling questioned taking a glance at his feet.

“Oh no!” he cried. His legs had vanished as more of him began to fade away, breaking off like pieces of glass. He whipped his head around, noticing the same was happening to Bowser, Link, Luigi, and the entire castle itself.

“So this is what happens to the inhabitants of each world, interesting, but that doesn’t explain how that elf-boy survived,” he thought perplexed.

“This is insane!” Rue said in awe as Peach completely broke apart still resting atop his shoulder.

“Don’t worry” Link spoke softly. “We’ll be alright….I think”.

“Peach, Luigi, everyone! What have they…?” Mario’s voice trailed off as he was utterly erased.

Link sighed as Mario and the others left him. “What exactly was this place? Would he return as he did last time? He had run out of time. The castles walls shattered from all around as more shadows took control.
“I’m sorry…..” were his last words to pass his lips before plunging into darkness. Would this be the last thing saw? He could barely hear his own thoughts as they ran farther and farther away from him.

Then nothingness…

Chapter 5

The sun shone brightly, peeking over the crowded stadium basking the spectators in a warm glow, giving its blessing to the event already underway. A wave of cheers left the allured spectators as two young adolescents stepped on the grassy field at the center of the stadium. Each carried a small red and white orb-like object, known as Poke’ balls before meeting glances at opposites ends of the arena. One of the children lifted the brim of his hat, revealing a confident smile. The roars of the fans drifted away listlessly, to him only the two of them existed within the peaceful silence inside the eye of the storm that surrounded.

“Are you ready Green?”

The other boy ran his fingers through his hair, just exerting the very essence of cockiness.

“Let’s get this over with Red” he replied casually almost bored with the whole situation.

Red growled lowly as looked at the several of the same red and white spheres tied to his belt, a piece of the victory he starved for residing inside every one of them. Both threw one of the strange devices onto the ground, causing them to open in a flash of light, taking the form of some awe-inspiring creatures, which could only be described as pure imagination. The first creature summoned resembled that of a rat, yellow in color with red pouches below its cheeks. It quickly took a fighting stance as it stood before a massive dragon-like monster, stomping violently whilst breathing fire, piercing the clouds above. These monsters were called pokemon and inhabited this world.

“We’ll start things off, Pikachu use thunderbolt!” Red ordered as the tiny thing sprung into action charging at its target. Surges of electricity started to radiate from the rubber ball looking pouches and liberated a bolt of lightning from each. Green sighed pointing at the oncoming attack.

“Charizard intercept”
On queue, the beast called Charizard unleashed a current of flames. The two forces of nature met in an explosive collision, engulfing the sky with the crackling of fireworks. The enticed spectators applauded as the two creatures awaited another command. Red’s bottom lip curled under his teeth.

“Oh what a impressive display of power from both sides! The speakers boomed. “But wait what is this? Someone is walking onto the field!”

The unfamiliar footsteps heading into the arena belonged to a man dressed in a black cloak and hood.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Green asked sharply.

The strange interrupter ignored the question, moving around the stadium like some kind of tourist.

“So this is Kanto? It’s a bit boring; however I suppose it does promote a problem”. The entertainment-deprived crowd began to show their restlessness by sending a barrage of jeers and taunts at the unwanted visitor.

“Get off the stage, you whack-job!”

“We came to see a battle!”

“What is he doing? Is he a trainer?”

The cloaked persona threw his hand in Green’s direction stopping his rant. He gave a bewildered stare as a large darkened portal manifested itself. A string of screams carried across the stadium, the same portals had appeared in several spots in the stadium.

“What is this?” Red questioned seriously. “A Team Rocket attack?”

“At this point does that matter?” Green answered. “Charizard handle this”.

The mighty fire lizard let out a fierce cry, approaching the mysterious hole. Just looking at it brought a sense of hopelessness crashing down on his body, like waves breaking on the beach. Red found himself trembling at only the sight of it. What was this thing?

“No Charizard stay away!” Red pleaded to the beast, but his words were too late and a parade of blackened tentacles slithered from the abyss, grasping tightly on the creature suspending it in the air like a kite in the breeze. These tendrils were connected to a slender sytche shaped arm of the same color, as a horrific figure contortioned itself outside, the same occurrence happening wherever the portals were laid.

“Pikachu, take care of those things!” Red shouted as a blast of lightning collided into the shadows chest, or what Red thought its chest to be. The shadow shrugged off the attack, sending its other arm after the assailant, but the fearless rodent pushed them back with a small burst of light.

Charizard roared triumphantly as chunks of the tentacles rained down, squirming violently almost appearing to be flesh-like. Charizard descended at his master’s feet, allowing him to get aboard, everyone in panic had begun to evacuate, leaving the two trainers alone with the monstrosity.

“All right good idea!” Red announced cheerfully as he leapt onto the dragon’s back, Pikachu in hand.

“What do you think your doing?” Green asked irritated, although already ascending above, giving the once intimidating Charizard a sense of grace, as it soared outside the stadium. The mysterious man had vanished as well as Red was overcome by a sudden sense of sadness as the stadium fell off in the horizon, as if it would be the last time he saw it.

He overlooked Green’s harsh attitude, he was much more interested in what was happening down below. Those black fiends were marching toward towns and it appeared that they were multiplying. The people were nothing more than chickens with their heads cut off, running frantically from these “nightmares” that had been given the breath of life. Red continued to observe, puzzled by the fact that they seemed to have no interest in any of them it looked as if they were searching for something.

“We’ve got to get these things out of town, scatter them!”

Charizard cocked his head back, performing an air raid of fire bullets plummeting down into several of the shadow beings. Red’s stomach dropped as Charizard dove down for a landing. The shadow beings had been thrown back, but quickly got back up, this time turning their attention to the attacker. They pounced at Charizard, but bolts of electricity caught them, slamming them into the dirt.

“Nice work Pikachu” Red said the tiny rat nodding at its accomplishment.

The shadows hit by Pikachu’s attack suddenly began moving sporadically on the ground, before melting away.

“So these things can be killed,” Green concluded. Out of the blue many poke’ balls were released out of nowhere, freeing more pokemon to join Charizard and Pikachu. Trainers within the town had joined the fray, seeing that these intruders could be beaten gave them the courage to fight back. Red threw out another as well, unveiling a cute blue turtle standing erect on its hind legs, greeting the situation with a cheery out of place cry.

“Squirtle!”

The squadron of trainers held the shadow creatures in a deadlock, as more sprouted out of thin air from behind surrounding them. The shadows began to strike from every direction, pokemon dropping left and right. Squirtle inhaled deeply at Red’s command and exhaled a compressed ball of water, breaching through the enemy‘s defense. The group managed to escape from the rift, but their numbers had dwindled.

“There’s no end!” One trainer cried running away.

“Are these even Pokemon?”

Red scowled angrily, everything was happening too fast, how could they be defeated so easily? More of the unknown attackers materialized, unexpectedly grabbing on to anything in sight. Eventually all the trainers were captured, except Red as both Pikachu and Squirtle were tossed at his feet by the enemies’ fierce, relentless onslaught. He dropped to his knees, recalling his two Pokemon back inside their respected poke’ balls. He gazed over at everyone unconscious, whatever it was that they were looking for they did not want to be disturbed.

“Even Green…” Red mumbled in disbelief staring at him lying beside a fallen Charizard. Two of the monsters approached him, while the rest continued to drift aimlessly around the town. He waited to suffer the same fate as the others, when he felt a strong rush of wind slap against his face, as a blue streak crashed into the shadows monsters sending them flying back. Red could not believe his eyes, a large blue animal stood in front of him, oddly enough wearing a pair of red sneakers. However, the enemy was now aware of his presence. But the creature looked rather confident, despite the consequence for it’s rather flashy entrance.

“Darn, looks like its time to go” it said rather annoyed.

It talked! Red was utterly baffled.

“What…what are you?”

“I’m not a “what”, the names Sonic the hedgehog, but we’ll have time for intros later”.

Red’s hand was grabbed tightly as Sonic exploded with speed leaving the town in a mere matter of seconds. Why were all these strange things happening? Red could barely breathe, as all the air was stolen from him, when the two abruptly stopped.

“Sorry about that, you must not be used to that huh?’ Sonic asked.

“This things speed is incredible!” Red thought. “A rare kind of pokemon, with him on my team, I’ll be able to drive those monsters out of Kanto and save everyone!” Red excitedly released Squirtle once again and shot a column of water at the unsuspecting Sonic.

“H-hey wait a minute!” he managed to mumble before being soaked. He angrily wiped the water from his face as a poke ball collided into his forehead.

“Ow!” he cried rubbing the injured area.

“Darn its must have been a malfunction” Red thought hurling a salvo of the sphere-shaped devices.

Sonic navigated his way through the falling assault, appearing at Red’s face.

“Hey what’s the big idea? I save you and you through junk at me?”

Red looked puzzled giving a puzzled look at Squirtle, who simply shrugged.

“Are you even a pokemon?” red asked puzzled, poking the rather annoyed animal.

“A what?” Sonic snapped still a bit frustrated, swatting away Red’s hand, but his demeanor quickly faded at the sight of a towering light shooting up into the sky a distance away.

“It’s too late…” Sonic said sadly.

“What’s too late? What is going on?”

Red watched as Sonic pulled out a shiny green emerald, the light in the sky growing brighter by the second, the same hopeless feeling anchoring him down.

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

The pillar of unexplained light continued to grace the horizon with is illuminating brilliance. Red found himself grabbing the peculiar creature that called itself Sonic, by the arm.

“What’s the problem!” Sonic snapped.

“I want answers! What is happening?”

“There is no time to explain now” the hedgehog sighed. Red released his hand in shock, his eyes catching a glimpse of the gem that was now incases in a purple haze.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Sonic questioned as he too noticed the jewel.

A power vibration was felt around them, bringing with it the lingering sense of nausea. Rapidly, Red began to feel lighter, when he discovered himself and Sonic being lifted into the air. There was another flash of purple light as the two were sent rolling across the dirt.
An outline of blue darted past him, as Red laid confused on the ground, slowly getting to his feet. The streak of blue head toward the gem, now suspended in mid-air in front of them. It flew backward as Sonic drew closer into the clutches of a tall, grey and purple creature, standing before them eyeing its collected treasure curiously in a complete humanoid posture. Red’s eyes widened as he whispered the name “Mewtwo” under his breath.

“Nice little trick” Sonic laughed, “but that doesn’t belong to you!” Grass scattered beneath him as he took off after the thief. Red hurried to catch up, withdrawing a poke’ ball.

“No Sonic wait!”

However, the headstrong hedgehog was already frozen in place by Mewtwo simply extending an arm. The poke’ ball set free Pikachu once again, who immediately fired a pulse of electricity at Mewtwo, who had no time other than to halt its attack and evade.

“He caught me?” Sonic stated shocked.

“He’s a powerful psychic pokemon, known as Mewtwo,” Red explained. “I’ve dealt with him before, but why would he attack us?”

The tower of light began to expand, the earth trembling under its presence, while a voice called out to them amongst the confusion.

“So that little jewel was the means in which you were alluding us”

Red and Sonic turned to see the man in the black cloak walking towards them with several of the shadow beings that had attacked them previously.

“You’re the one from the stadium!,” Red exclaimed.
Even he had no idea how much he thirsted for payback, as he wasted no time to send Pikachu after him with a electrical barrage. The man stood there, giving no regard to the fact he was on route with the electrical storm, when one of the creatures acted as a shield exploding into a black mist upon contact. The man chuckled continuing to walk through the remains of his subordinate.

“This time you will not be able to escape, Sonic the hedgehog”.

“You know this guy?” Red asked.

“I’ll explain later, if I get the chance” Sonic answered.

Mewtwo formed a large dark sphere between his hands and fired, shooting off several more in succession. As the man ordered the rest of his minions to pounce on Red.

“Pikachu, quick attack!” he commanded. The small mouse sprung into action, moving rapidly, swatting away the shadow nightmares.

Sonic sped across the grassy field, collisions roaring in his ears. Even with his incredible speed, Mewtwo’s accuracy was dangerously impressive. Patience would be key, in order to sneak in through an opening in his offence, otherwise he would only fall prey to his psychic abilities. Another sphere soared across the field, and another evasion from it’s target. Taking advantage of the time needed to form and release the attacks, Sonic turned direction to Mewtwo. “CLANG!” the sound of metal rang like the chimes of a church bell, Sonic looked in disbelief as his punch stayed at bay, by the cover of a single large spoon within the pokemon’s grip. The seemingly heavy utensil, was wielded in a smooth graceful motion, stealing the dumbfounded look off of Sonic, before flying him back in a heap.

“PIKA…….CHU!” The cry of the rodent summoned a bolt of lighting to hammer down from the clouds above Mewtwo’s head, but it quickly teleported to safety behind it’s hooded ally.

“Why are you doing this?” Red asked.

“Enough of this” the man sighed holding up the jewel. “We have their means of escape, we can leave them now.”

“No!” Sonic shouted struggling to get up.

Red didn’t have to ask, what they we’re being left to, the sad spectacle was unwinding before his eyes. The light had grown drastically now and the Kanto that he knew was eroding into nothingness.

Had the light been feeding off his home for all this time?

“I’m sorry”, Sonic had managed to say. “The chaos emerald was our only way out”.

“ARGH!” The cloaked man swung his sleeve frantically, snuffing out the flames that hungered for the cloth. The chaos emerald thrown at Red’s feet.

A triumphant roar was heard, as Charizard landed forcefully with Green at the reigns.

“Green you’re okay”, said a cheerful Red.

“Forget that, shouldn’t you give whatever that treasure is, to whatever THAT is” Green told him pointing a finger to Sonic.

“HEY!” the hedgehog snapped scooping the chaos emerald up for himself.

“…thanks”.

“Mewtwo, do not let them leave!, Father will not like anymore interlopers!”.

Mewtwo nodded, obeying the command and fired a black sphere.

“Charizard flamethrower!” Green demanded as the two attacks dissolved one another.

“Go!, I don’t know much of what is happening but you have to escape, find a way to fix it!”

The sky had been erased to black now and the horrible plague showed no signs of stopping. Sonic held the chaos emerald as it started to bath them in a green aura.

“You can come” Sonic explained. “I can’t tell you where we will end up, but maybe we can reverse what has been done”.

Red turned to Charizard dueling with Mewtwo, Green still shouting for him to leave. He withdrew Pikachu as Sonic told him to get close.

“Mewtwo, we’ll deal with them later, we have no other choice but to retreat for the moment” The man admitted. A portal much like the one those strange creatures appeared from opened and the two vanished from within it, before it withered away.

“Green you can come with us now!” Red shouted.

“I can’t….” he replied holding up his right arm, which had begun to chip away.

“This is what happens to not only the place you call home, but to everyone who lives in it” Sonic informed sadly. “There is nothing we can do”.

Charizard was called back into its poke’ ball, as Green tossed it too Red. “Make good use of him, wherever it is you all end up”.

And there, just like that everything switched to darkness. Sonic and Red standing in a nothingness void; a place that now marked the grave for Kanto. Red gritted his teeth, but didn’t mutter a word, he simply added Charizard to the group of poke balls that hung from his belt.

“I’ll explain everything once we arrive somewhere safe” Sonic informed with a comforting grin. The green aura of the chaos emerald shone bright as they too faded from. the haunting blackness.
