Official Stage Discussion: #1
Smashville

General Overview:
The smallest (I believe?) of the neutral stages, Smashville is a single main platform with one drop-through platform that moves back and forth across the stage, sometimes coming very close to the side blast zones.

Pros:
  • The platform occasionally gives ROB some overhead protection
  • The lack of "aesthetic bulges" on the bottom makes this a very easy stage to fly beneath when under heavy edge pressure.
  • When the platform moves close to the blast zones, ROB can easily kill with a back throw at decent percents.

Cons:
  • Moving platform may give enemies an extra recovery option when facing ROB's edgeguarding.
  • Moving platform may get in ROB's way as he attempts to return to the ground, which sets up for several characters' Usmashes/uairs/utilts.

Characters to fight here:
N/A

Characters to ban/strike:

N/A

You forgot to mention the Balloon, you control the balloon, you control the game =P

Platform sometimes leads to upsmash (and if they shield and fall and miss the tech, fsmash).

Wolf has some side-b tricks here, ike has an up-b trick, other than that it's a fairly straightforward neutral.

The platform can lead to some nifty angled laser kills, but besides that, curse the platform.
It's fairly easy to stage spike on most the neutrals with ROB's nair/bair, and I love it.
Besides that, it's kinda' just like the other neutrals, just with less to work with.

The platform helps to get uairs in if you're below

The platform can drift over to the sides and helps characters with poor recoveries refresh their UpB. Likewise, it can also refresh your UpB. It hurts more than it helps though.

Smashville's edges hurt your edgeguarding slightly against certain characters (i.e. characters that get lipped on stages like FD).

Hyphen smashing is good here. It's not easily punished upon a failed hit. Because the platform is long, it can help you land an usmash kill on characters like D3 who have heavy landing lag by preventing them from ledgegrabbing.

If you have pivot mastered, you can also use the platform to pivot utilt>uair.

Note: Balloon mindgames are fun, especially when you pop the balloon with a laser right before your opponent swipes at it. :D

The balloon is actually incredibly useful for dropping gyros on unsuspecting people when you shoot it over their heads.
