Assist Trophy = Playable character?

I don't like to do what ifs, but this has been in my mind for a while. What if characters you aren't currently playing as can come into the fights as Assist Trophies? And conversly, some of the assist trophies we have alread seen have a playable form?

Grey Fox, Samurai Gorah, and Lyn fans, go ahead and put those hopes back through the roof.

The Gray Fox update helps this theory.
