THE HOUSTON THREAD!!!!!!!

Welcome to the HOUSTON BRAWL THREAD! This city holds more smash events/tournaments than any other city in texas. We have the best players and the largest amount of players in this entire state as well!!! Plz keep this page in your favorites. There are always tournaments going down is this AWESOME city so plz check back often. I almost always have a tournament EVERY month unless things like FINALS or major holidays(christmas, thanksgiving....ect) come up. Each Houston event is called "HOBO" and it stands for Houstons Official Brawl Organization. If you do not see a tourney on the front page, be sure to ask in the thread and people will help you out.

Xyro edit: Seriously, DeAngelo does phenomenal work and is very skilled at what he does. Dugfin got a shirt and I have a navy blue shirt that has the Samus icon on the front and the brawl signature(the word "brawl" from the actual game case) on the back. Wether you want a shirt or backpack or shoes or jacket to be Airbrushed, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you buy one of these. He can do basicly anything you want done to your shirt, wether its brawl or Final fantasy or halo or whatever. I will be wearing mine to every tournament so that you can see what he can do. Just so everybody knows, Melee's top 5 in Houston are: RoyR(falcon), SideEffect(fox), Sethlon(roy), TGM/xyro(samus), G@be(falcon). The ranking was ending in march 2008 due to 95% of the melee scene switching to brawl.

HISTORY OF HOUSTON SMASH by Allan "xyro/TGM" Sims


Ok so basically the WHOLE purpose of me writing this is because in about 5-6 months, i will be leaving the Houston Smash Scene forever( ill hang around a bit longer to help others learn TO stuff). Im getting married in May of 2010 and i gotta focus on college, work and finally getting out of cometitive gaming to focus on REAL life(gross). There is also another reason for me to write this, i want all of you to KNOW how the very scene you are apart of was created and how it nearly died. I also want all of you to look towards the future of the Houston scene and KEEP it just as strong or even stronger than ever after i leave. But anyways, sit back, relax, read and please learn because the HISTORY of this SCENE has affected this city and will CONTINUE to for years to come. Oh also, there will be mass amounts of grammer mistakes and spelling errors..........DEAL WITH IT.



CHAPTER ONE: The begining of a LONG journey! 1999(june)- November 2001(gamecube release)


Ok so here i am, 13-14 years old Allan Sims and still in diapers. Im in my room playing mario kart 64 when younger brother walks in from the video store and shows me that he rented Super Smash Bros 64. I didnt know what the **** that was and it looked dumb, mainly because it showed Pikachu shocking Marios boot and Link looked like he was a doll with 4 ears(dont know why that made me hate the game but it did). My brother poped it in and immediately picked pikachu and played against link on the old yoshi 64 level. I watched for a bit(thinking the whole time this game was dumb) and then i heard my brother say this game is "REALLY fun" and if i(allan) decided to play it, he(my brother) would beat me! I DONT THINK SO YOU LITTLE ****!!!!!!!!!!! I grabbed my dark green N64 controler, picked falcon and began my first match. Of course i lost due to the fact my brother shocked my boot several times but after that match i KNEW this was the game i wanted to play forever! And so my life changed!

Months go by and i have been HEAVILY training with falcon and pikachu(hes my 2nd). By this time i have been able to crush my brothers pika and ness so I decided to asked all my pals in school if they played and(oddly enough) alot of them did so i would go over to thier house after school and MOLEST them with my TASTY falcon/Pikachu. Some of the poor sould tried to used mario, others used link.......it did not matter because They ALL FAILED TO DEFEAT THE GREATEST SMASHER IN THE WORLD(well at least in Santa Fe, texas). But seriously i though, i was the BEST and no one could beat me(which is odd because i KNEW nothing about anything advanced play aside from short hops). And now that i think about it i almost NEVER used items, now isnt that strange?

Fast forward a bit more and BOOM! Before i knew it i got a nintendo power magazine that was talking about this new system codenamed "dolphin" but later named GameCube and a new super smash bros game "in the works". I honestly didnt care because i had my N64( and happy with it) and i was MOLESTING my town with falcon/pikachu. So i threw the magazine in the toilet(filled with creamy poo) and moved on with my day.

Christmas 2001 my life CHANGED(again?!?!?! Dear god....). What could be better than than RIGHT NOW?






Chapter Two: Melee, Scav and The V Games! December 2001-March 2004




Christmas 2001 appears and all i want is CASH(10s,20s,100s) and thats all i get. My brother on the other hands asks my parents if they would get him a GAMECUBE and sure enough they got him one with the game TonyHawk Pro skater 3(absolute TRAAAAAAASH!!!!!).

Well i soon found myself playing the N64 in my room alone, alienated, and wondering if there was anybody out there that could defeat me in n64(little did i know isai, on the other side of the US, was doing **** in ssb64 that would cause my mind to explode). Every timed i asked my brother to play smash with me he said no and started playing THPS3. So i went back to the toilet and took out my nintendo magazine and got the "renew subscription" thingy in there and got some more magazines( also ordered the players guide).

When the first issue finaly came in i saw this big article on this new smash brothers game called "Super Smash bros: Melee" and YET AGAIN i said "no, i like my 64 smash, this new smash is adding characters like bowser and peach....RETARDED!" My brother heard me and told me that i should get it cause he thinks that since bowser is in the game he could beat me with his eyes closed......

THAT SON OF A ***** DIDNT LEARN FROM THE 64 DAYS SO I GUESS ITs TIME FOR ANOTHER DOSE OF RAPE( i went and saved my lunch money and bought melee 2 weeks later)!!!!

But before i got the game, the players guide came in. I looked through it and decided that falcon would be my main and this MEGA hot, delicious, skinny, soft spoken prince of ALtea would be my 2nd........marth. I brought melee home and picked CAPTAIN FALCON(hes my best in 64 so why not give him another shot?) and went to the staged called Onett. I pressed RIGHT and JUMP at the same time and falcon FLEW across the stage like a bolt of lightning. I pressed right and jump again and i SDed. This told me that i would have to relearn how to control falcons speed and actually LEARN how to be sensitive when pressing buttons. So i said "screw it" and picked marth and immediately i.... JIZZED IN MY PANTS(lol seriously) because he just felt right and looked cool and he had a SWORD that was better looking than links.

Ok so lets speed this up by 2 years(2003)! By this time i was thinking i regained my n64 AMAZING-ness! My brother tried bowser for a while and realized he was ABSOLUTE GARBAGE and deciding to go Sheik. It didnt matter because i still beat his ***. Iirc, i was 14-15ish and was looking for players at my school(8th grade-9th). Yet again, they bought the newest smash game(melee) and accepted my challenges! Jimbo(mario), Kevin(marth), Blake(marth), David(ganon), Steven(samus) and none of them were even close to my skill( i was STILL the best player in my city and perhaps the WORLD).

I needed a challenge! So i headed to GOOGLE.com! I literally typed in the name of the game and 2 websites poped up, one was www.theVGames.com and the other was ssbm.it. I clicked on The V Games website and read about a "smash tournament" that was going down in March 2004 at a local mall. I went to the forums on the site, created a name(the great marth) and got info and met this player by the name of "Scavenger" or Scav. He showed me smashboards and i made an account there but quickly forgot about the site( i dont know why) and stayed glued to thevgames forum threatening people that i would RAPE them in melee if i ever met them. TRASH TALKIN HAD BEGUN!!!!!!

After PLEADING and FAKE crying to my mommy she finally said she would let me enter the tournament which was at the Katy Mills Mall. i had 3 months too keep my grades up(which is very hard for me) and train my *** off. I got on the cube and played melee for days/weeks/months and stayed up all night and practiced( i wrote down ALL possible combos i could do[even though i didnt know about DI or teching]). I even created this SECRET COMBO that i would only bring out if i KNEW the foe had me "on the ropes". It was called the TGM COMBO(the great marth combo) and it involved 2 simple moves.....dash attack, to SMASH attack(the name was later given by the magnolia crew)! IT WAS SIIIIIIIIIIICK!!!!!!! But anyways, i perfected that technique and played on EVERY level just in case my foe decided to pull hyrule temple on me or something. By this time my bro got back into smash and trained with me. He was getting good with sheik but never at the level of THE GREAT MARTH( wahahahhahahahahahahahahah).

Fast forward once again to tourney day(march 2004)!!!!!! Me and my brother walked into the mall(for our FIRST tournament) with our 20$ pot fee and our controlers. We signed up and waited for our named to be called. While i was waiting i was scopin out the skill level in the room! I noticed ALOT of young kids that where still hanging on thier mommys arms( knew if i had to face them i could win) and i also saw this one kid with a 5 ft sombrero(sp?) who would not stop talking. Scav showed up(wearing a megaman 2 shirt)and was hangin with his buddies(one of them mained marth while scav mained mario).

OMG ITs TIME!!!!!!!

I sit down and i meet the kid who has to play me. His name was Dillon and he was 9 years old(thats what he said). I shook his hand and thought to my self, "should i beat this kid or should i let him win? I mean hes 9 years old and his mom is behind us cheering him on. But at the same time i really really wanna get far in this event." WHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH TOO BAD LITTLE *****, YOU GONNA DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! SO yea i pretty much raped him on the first stage(corneria) and he started crying so he got up and left and went to his mom(and his sluty mom told him i cheated so its ok that he lost) so i guess that means i win the 2nd match too!

So i play a match or 2 more(i win them of course). Then on my 4th match i play this black guy who uses daisy and all he does is ground dodge to DOWN SMASH and it pretty much beat me. I got sent to losers and bet 2-3 more people before i met this mario player who did the EXACT same thing as the peach player. I guess i wasnt use to players who could predict an attack and ground dodge(lol i was truly horrible at melee and didnt even know it). So i was raped and was knocked out of my FIRST tournament. I got top 10 i know that for sure.
So after i was knocked out, i went up to scav(who ended up getting 1st and his room mate got 2nd) and asked to play him. We went to Onett(my fav stage) and he pretty much man handled me all 4 stocks. Every time i attacked he would SLIDE backwards then f-smash(wave dash) and everytime i shielded his attacks before i could sheild grab him he started attacking again(L-canceling). It was HOPE-LESS! I admitted he was WAAAAY better than me and asked him to teach me those 2 things. He did and he told me to go to www.smashboards.com to meet people/learn stuff/read articles. I thanked him and vowed that next time we meet ill beat him.

As i sit in the back of my moms car going home, i realize that THIS tournament REVOLUTIONIZED the way i think about video games, competition, and myself. I realized im not this "amazing player" that i thought i was and i realized i had MUCH MORE to learn than my nintendo power ssbm players guide had to offer. I also realized that tournaments are a place where i can meet and hang out with people who like the EXACT SAME things i do(for the most part) and i wanted to be apart of it EVEN more!!!!! I also hoped that one day i could BE that person calling out "The Great Marth vs Dillon tv 7." But i didnt even know how to go about it.




Chapter Three: The birth, death and resurrection of the Houston scene! 2005-March 2008

The BIRTH
Once i got home i was OBSESSED with trying to get better. I forced my brother to play me for hours on top of hours and i even went around at highschool askin the "gamer table" at luch wether they played or not(highly embarrasing)......and that is where i met Kalo(settled for fox) and Tyle(settled for falco)! They came to my house and we played, we even played at school during lucnh time and we did this for a long *** time. Things were going great but i wanted to see if i could find even MORE people that played melee, so i went to smashboards(gulp!). Originally, i thought smashboards was a place for the "elite" and i was kinda scared to post(some of you felt the same way at first) so i just signed on as Xyro and went to the southwest boards and found the messiah of smash, the gaming goddess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FLUFFY-SAMA(pikachu/Doc)! This WOMAN was the ORIGINAL Houston scene TO and CREATOR!!!! She had her own Houston Thread which included "fluffy monthlies" and immediately i clicked on that! I learned about her monthlie sand even her upcoming tourney. I told kalo and tyle and my bro and we went over there LOTS and LOTS and LOTS and LOTS! This is where we met the LEGENDARY ROY MASTER named Sethlon and his 2 buddies Gabe(falcon/marth), Zap101(luigi) and a few others like Razorium(falcon/Ganon), Clever(samus), along with no name people like Titan44(ganon) and Vinnyman(peach). This was the first OFFICIAL Houston crew and it was AMAZING!!!!!

Fast forward a little bit to June 2005 and by then we go to fluffys FIRST ran tournament(shes had monthlies before and after this) and it was named Smash Extravaganza 1 . It was very successful and a GREAT learning experience for ME and Fluffy. What was really cool about this tournament is that Crystal City/San Antonio came to it and some new houston no name people which expanded the scene and got us exposed to the rest of the state. About 20 something people showed up and it was a blast(first houston tounrey had 20ish people and that was WITH oos people, lol).

After SEX 1, Sethlon and his 2 buddies Zap101(AJ)/Gabe decided to get some monthlies going which were named SSBS Monthlies that were held in Tomball and there we met players like JoeBob( i would always beat that ******* in friendlies but he beat me in tourny and SideEffect(he was a mario main back then....TRAAAAAASH) and the scene expaned even more!




The DEATH

URGENT: I know "the birth" was boring and "the death" will be too but i HAVE to cover it because its VERY IMPORTANT to the smash scene. If it had not be for fluffy i wouldnt have taken over. If fluffy never started the scene, NONE of you would be apart of this MASSIVE scene today. In reality, SHE is the reason why things have worked out they way they have. Houston smash history is very important.


Time goes by and we all practice even more(like always) continuing to go to fluffy monthlies and fests.....all is good so far but then.....

SMASH EXTRAVAGANZA 2!!! This event was the BEST Houston tourney at THE TIME but it also was THE WORST and FINAL houston tourney for a LONG TIME.

The good part about SEX2: PC CHRIS's(one of the TOP players in the USA) fox graced(molested) the bracket. DSF's showed up as well under the influence of certain illegal drug and still beat the **** out of nearly everybody there(mouf/riot/brandon). Caveman/Rob$/Zulu/Mr.C all showed up from ooc. It was the PERFECT setting to play GOOD PEOPLE.

The REALLY good part about SEX2: A guy locked his keys in his car(no not me, my car got wrecked 2 weeks before sex2......whahahahah) and this player named Leprechaun pulled out some paper clips and tooth picks and a piece of hair and picked the **** LOCK! F-ing AMAZING!!!!!!

The Bad part about SEX2: FLuffy decided to let CLEVER seed the brackets and he did one HECK of a job. He made Houston fight Houston/Dallas fight dallas/Crystal City fight crystal city....ect. Everybody was pissed and was complaining(pc chris didnt care he was rape-ing BAD).

The REALLY bad part about SEX2: The tournament venue was a RUSTED/CRUSTED/BROKEN DOWN/NO AIR CONDITIONING and HEATING........shack. Roaches and goblins were EVERY WHERE!!!!!

So it ended up being caveman(doc and fox?) vs Pc Chris(fox) in the grand finals and IIRC caveman didnt really stand a chance. Pc Chris just wrecked him bad. But anyways, after the event people went home and got on SWF and blasted fluffy on how bad she ran the event and how bad the brackets were(even thought clever seeded them). Fluffy quickly wanted to get over that hill so she made SEX 3 thread. At first people were into it but over a SMALL amount of time people remembered how "bad" SEX2 was(it wasnt bad at all) and some people even said they would NEVER go to ANY tournament fluffy had control over........thats COOOOOOOOLD BLOOOODED! So she then EXPLODED and told lots of people bad things and the people called her bad things and she literally walked out the door and never returned.

From that day forward i was in shock(how could she walk away from all of this?)/Anger(holy **** its just one tourney that went bad, give her a break)/scared( the scene has been destroyed, what do we do?) all at once. For the next 5-6 months NOTHING HAPPENED tournament wise. Fluffy had left us......

To be honest, i was tired of not having and ORDERED and STRUCTURED scene. I was sick of PMs/AIMs/Texts/Calling/ect for EVERYTHING related to smash. So i thought about makin my OWN Houston thread, but NO! One of our pals named CesarWTF(ganon) made it before i could and we all migrated there . He had monthlies for a while but it was so far away it wasnt workin th way he wanted it too plus he kind alost interest in it. So one day i decided to take up the task of bringing Houston off of its *** and stand it back up tall as EVER( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm4iU0yx9GY ) but honestly i didnt know what to do. So i took a step back and thought "what would fluffy do????" and i came to the conclusion that i needed to have ANOTHER tourney that had a better overall experience than SEX2 did(better brackets/extra TOs).

So what did i do? i went back to the same place fluffy held her first tourney and i talk to the guys and they let me hold MY first tourney(for 200$ a day............)!!!!!!! Houston's Official Smash Tournament(HOST 1)!!!

The good part about HOST 1: 81 people showed up and absolutley loved it!!!!!!!!! It was bigger and better than fluffy's SEX2 in every way! I even brought my GF up there and i will tell you now, dont EVER do that. Smash players act like they have NEVER seen a girl before. They act like "wtf are those bumps in between her soulders(boobs)? They look funny, heeheehee!(im stupid)"

The bad part about HOST 1: There was a mexican player that JUST turned 16 years of age and i THINK his name was Juan. He bought a BRAND NEW GCN controler and couldnt open it(wtf is up with nintendo making KID toys that takes the terminator force to open it) so i gave him some scissors(sp?) and he walked off to go open it and start playin. Within a few minutes, he comes up to me SOLID WHITE(for a mexican, this is SERIOUS) and is holding out his wrist to my face stuttering. While opening his controler he SLICED OPEN HIS WRIST and BLOOD was freaking GUSHING like a mother F-ing HYDRO PUMP from a Blastoise!!!!!! Other than nearly throwing up in the kids face( i hate seeing blood), i quickly took off his watch( it was a rolex) and wrapped a white T-shirt on his wrist and got 9/11 to show up and take his *** off to the hospital. Yes yes i know, im a god **** hero, you guys are lucky to have me.

The REALLY bad/funny part about HOST 1: That Juan kid went to the hospital with his keys but his car was at the tourney.......no one could come pick his *** up. WHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH, YA *****!!!!!


I think the grand finals of Host 1 was caveman and.......rob$? I cant remember and im too lazy to look it up. Once the event was over i learned LOTS of things! I needed to be walking around and checking on things more instead of playing alot. I needed to keep watch over the younger kids(like juan) and maybe help them out or instruct them better on rules and that sort of thing. It was my first event and it was a GREAT learning experience.

Time goes on and CesarWTF doesnt update te Houston thread. Im sick of posting in an OUTDATED thread so i make the Houston Thread 3 and begin/continue talking about HOST 2(which would be 6 months from HOST 1. So by this time, Houston is going to smahs fests(bears) all the time and having semi regular tournies(run by me) and people houses(jake13/Aarrons) and things are going well. At each event we gathered more and more people(3000[link] and T-rex[ganon] and Jeremy fiefer[falcon/falco] and the Aladin crew[ a doc/link/fox/falco/mario]) and i made sure to meet and play and go over to each of ther ehouses to let them know about the scene i am running and that they are welcome to join. This is PERFECT because HOST 2 is JUST AROUND THE CORNER...............or so i thought!!!!!!!!


I drove by the venue HOST2 was gonna be at(the same as HOST1) and i looked through the glass of the venue cause the lights were off and it was a SATURDAY(they NEVER close that early on saturday). While gazing into the tinted glass, i saw NO chairs/ NO tvs/ NO couches/ NOTHING!!!!!!! I got pissed(why didnt they tell me they closed shop) and then panic(OMG where will HOST 2 happen). I got on smashboards and told everybody the news and that i had a PLAN B(when i really didnt), well for some reaosn Mr. 3000 contacted me and said he had a venue i could use for the WHOLE day(only one day though)........YES!

Long story short, i had "HOST 2" in a building that WAS HUGE AND NICE AND EPIC but as usual....


The good part about "HOST2": Wobbles/caveman/rob$/DoH and lots of OOC should up. They all had fun and everything went well for a while.

The bad part about "HOST2": At one point about half way through the event, a group of 40 mexicans had signed a contract with that building saying they can have a party ther at about 330pm. Mr. 3000 failed to tell me this so i had to get 20+ matches done in 32 minutes.....thats impossible.

The REALLY bad part about "HOST2": WHile everybody was rushing to play thier matches, i was cleaning up the place. I picked up an EMPTY(and i mean not one drop) MONSTER ENERGY DRINK can and it accidentally sliped and landed DIRECTLY onto the ONE surge PROTECTOR that was ACROSS THE **** ROOM and it hit the MICROSCOPIC "off" button(how the **** does that happen) so then(of course my luck) the ENTIRE building loses power from that stupid *** can and in ONE SWIFT MOTION....the ENTIRE ROOM looks DIRECTLY at me. I literally felt drops of poop travel down my leg at that moment.


So yea, we all moved into a 2ndary room because the mexicans with thier 40 inbreed kids HAD to have thier party. The 2ndary room fit us just fine except we had no electricity so we use dmy extension cords and got power OUTSIDE of the building(i am a smart *******). Finished the tourney(wobbles vs caveman=wobbles won) and we all went home.


The next part i wont go into much because i feel some of these things are ONLY meant for the people that were there. Things like the OHSNAP trip, mouf milk matches, sleep overs(the gay ones) at gabes house, magnolia vs houston crew battle 1 and 2, jake13 fest 1-3, Word to your Mother(the kid that ran towards the highway and never returned), Final smash 3(sethlon 2-0s FORWARDs SHEIK and Royr 4 stocks Xelic)....ect. I Honestly had the MOST FUN in melee AFTER HOST2. It was a great time and i really bonded with the players and reallt understood what makes a GOOD tourney and what to LOOK out for when running them. I also realized that people liked my rules and events so it meant i was doing SOMETHING RIGHT. Well anyways, thats about it for melee. The houston scene keeps playin it and each month some one has an event and i run it for them, we all have fun and keep up the practice untill the next MAJOR HUGE CHANGE happens to the great city of Houston.................BRAWL


Chapter four: March 9th, 2008! A date which will live in infamy!!!!!!


How many of you remember the NIGHT that the legendary e3 video of the intro to brawl( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ontMA8mxg18 ) came out? Some people cried tears of joy while others immediately said "ill never play that game." Another thing, remember the SmashDojo( http://www.smashbros.com/ )? How many nights did we all stay up and wait for those daily updates which ended up being info on retarded things like items, stickers or final smashes? Remember all the questions we had: "i hope WaveDashing and L canceling are still in" or "OMG is roy ging to return? I mean, he has fire on his sword and im a noob so i gotta have my roy" or " will brawl be able to use the gcn controller" or "do you think the online mode will b good" and my personal fav, " i hope they dont screw this game up." Perhaps you even remember the dojo told us TWO release dates that came to pass with yet another JOHN as to why it wasnt released? No matter the case, this did nothing but build hype for this game!

That is untill....

We(usa) got our hands on the japanese version of the game and began putting out vid. We learned REALLY QUICKLY that next to nothing(advanced tech wise) had returned in BRAWL. WaveDashing and Dash Dancing? NO, instead they gave us tripping. L-cancel? NO, instead they gave certain chars the AUTO cancel feature on SOME moves while others are forced to deal with HORRIBLE animation lag. Crouch cancelling? NO, instead you get the RETARDED option on being able to TILT attack with your C-stick while holding down. This is not even including the fact that MOST characters are floaty, the fact that there is a MASSIVE lack of shield/hit stun, the fact that certain characters who were ABSOLUTE titans in melee are now the DEFINITION of trash in brawl(sheik/samus/fox/peach/falcon/ganon/jiggs)

But to be fair........

Some characters got buffs like pikachu, GW, DK and others. We also gained new techs like Glide tossing and boost grabs and lots more that we will learn later on. Hell, the almighty falco got the one thing he HATED in melee, chain grabs! I could go on but whats the point?

Lets fastforward a bit to March 8th 11:00pm. ALL ACROSS the USA there were new kids, ssb64 kids, melee kids, moms and dads ALL waiting for ONE THING! The midnite release of SUPER SMASH BROS BRAWL! To kick it off, several GAMESTOPS across the country held brawl "tournaments" and the winner of that GS would move on to state GS tournament,then region then the GRAND FINALS! Needless to say, i walked in there READY TO RAPE all those little kids but was cheap shoted(is this a word) by the retarded rule set! 2 minutes(or was it 1), all items on, all battle field, wii motes only. Can you say............... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyEHeVgP7Mk so yea i didnt do so good, ROFL. **** gamestop and thier ****ty "tournaments!" Anyways, we finish the tourney, grab the game and SPEED home.

Ok so i head home and play this game for like 19 hours straight(with friends and stuff) and jump on SWF and go to the Houston thread( http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=142123 )! A week or so later i head over to sethlons house. Him and gabe have been playin it so i jump in and play for a bit. Ever since the first day, i choose samus while sethlon was stuck between Falco/ZS and ike. We talked about stages and characters and and all kids of things. Little did we know that all across Houston people were getting this game and finding the Houston thread. People like TakeUrlife, ding ding, HeyTallman, pimpslap, i have to pee, Mytime....ect all joined the community. Old melee vets made the switch, royr/xyro/gabe/gea/kalo/rt. While some lesser known melee payers made the switch and became GREAT brawl players nearly immediately, stiltz/mr 3000/T-rex/Cesar. You know, i never understood that. How come those last 4 players were OK at melee but became AWESOME at brawl? I dont get that. Over time more and more people decided to join the Houston thread and join the discussion.

Soon after, some people started complaining about brawl and how they disliked it and were going back to melee. So i thought to myself, "do i wanna have a SPLIT in the scene and deal with trying to make both sides happy? Do i want to be like the MvsC2 scene and play the same game for a decade?" The answer to those are quite simple, **** YOU AND **** NO! Brawl is the future and you can accept it or dont, either way, my events will be ALL brawl.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG! Those are some tough words, buddy!

I will be the FIRST to admit that DID lose some people because of my move. IN fact, the people who chose to STAY in melee were the ones whomissed 90% of Houston's melee tournies back when melee was popular. SO in REALITY, who did i lose? NOBODY! WHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!!!!! ! **** im good. Seriously, i should get paid for this kind of thinking, ****!


Moving on! In Magnolia, Tx one of my pals named Aaron found a Play N' Trade up in Spring, Tx that would hold smash tournaments and he wanted to hold a brawl event, so he asked me to help him and we held a brawl tournament there. We named it HOBO(Houston's Official Brawl Ordeal) and on 4/5/08 we(unknowingly) unleashed the BIGGEST and most ****** tournament series in TX/Houston history. HOBO 1 had about 40 players(OOS players like hylian, Dr Drew, Dr MarioKart and Kira showed up) and it was the FIRST legit brawl tournament in the city. 3000 and t-rex took first and 2nd while the legendary roy master of melee(sethlon) took 4th. I still remember HOBO 1 to this day, and im sure they ones that went to it remember it as well because THEY took part in a HISTORIC event that is now being record here. If that was Historic enough you now have DUGFINN! At HOBO 1 i met up with DugFinn and decided we should team up and run tournies together! Yet again, this move along with the move to pass up the sinking ship that is melee was the BEST THING I HAVE DONE in smash!

I was sooooo hyped about tournaments and my love for this new game of brawl that me and dugfinn made HOBO 2 and 3 happen in the SAME month as hobo 1. I missed HOBO 2 due to work but T-rex managed to win AGAIN while a no-name IC/meta got 2nd and RoyR got 3rd. Hobo 3 was a different story! While it was at the same venue as HOBO 2(university of houston) the results were MEGA different. Sethlon(falco) declared 1st while a no-so-known old melee vet by the name of stiltz(olimar/meta) claimed 2nd. Mr. 3000 held onto 3rd while T-rex tasted 5th. Oh and here is a little fun fact: at hobo 3 a boy by the tag of "bobby" claimed 9th place with his wario............later on he would become the player known as "DMG"

Hobo 4-9 i will not cover because i believe those memories are MEANT for the people who attended those events. I will mention HOBO 8(well hobo 5 but he idnt stay the whole time) because this was the DEBUT of the CURRENT BEST player in HOUSTON,TX and the 2nd best player. Ultimate Razer and Gnes, respectively. This little 14 year old placed 17th at HOBO 8 and 17th and HOBO 9. This is small hint of what is to come from this little mexico. OH! BTW, below is a pic of little Razer




HOBO 10 and 11 are RECORD SETTING and RECORD BREAKING tournaments for Me, Dugfinn, Houston and the STATE of texas. Hobo 10 brought in 118 players from all over TX(austin/san angelo/dallas/beaumont,RGV) which beat HOBO 8's record of 98 players. Stiltz ended up beating D4BA in the grand finals and it was also the single greatest stiltz moment in history. Stiltz got hit by D4BA's bucket(gw) and teched it on the fin of corneria and KOed D4ba RIGHT after it......SIIIIIIIIIIIICK!!!!!! As for HOBO 11, it did not break HOBO 10's player turnout but it did something NO OTHER tx tourney had done. It brought in the top 2 best players in the USA: Mewtwoking and Azen. Other VERY VERY good oos(out of state) players like Edreese/DSF/Lee Martin showed up and fought. It was a GREAT turnout and one of the most fun events ive ever held. Oh btw, razer got 13th at hobo 10 and 11.....hes getting better but so is Gnes(he got 5th at hobo 10). HOBO 11 is also the debut of another 14 year old, his name is TRELA(these 14 year olds play a major part in Houston's future). At the end of HOBO 11 i was reminded that PLANET ZERO(the current venue of choice) is going to move across the street and they will not be open to do tournies for a month or 2. Untill PZ is fixed, the search for a venue is ON!

Skipping right along, im watchin vids, lookin at results, reading articles, talkin to people(stiltz) and i come to a conclusion. Metaknight IS broken(ill go into detail much later) so i have a idea. But stiltz beats me to it, he wants to hold a metaknight banned tournament at his college! I got him to attach the HOBO name to his event(thus making it hobo 12) so his attendance would be bigger. Over all, about 59 players went and the grand finals were SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK! FlipHop vs Le Martin(those of you that were there can remember this VERY clearly) was , for its time, the BEST grand finals set we have ever seen! HOBO 12 was taunted as the "BEST" hobo and the feedback as even better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS: razer got 4th........

Hobo 13, the monthlies of Ozz and sethlon, and HOBO 14 i will skip because all it does is just make Houston's scene grow in size and in skill. By this time Razer,gnes,fliphop,seth,jerm are all doing well on a regualr basis while the original champs like 3000 and trex aint doing so good anymore. The houston thread is FILLED with pot after post and fests/STDs and get togethers are going on nearly every other weekend. This is also the point in time where we meet DE ANGELO! De Angelo had been donating his Airbrushed items(shirts/backpacks) as prizes at the last few HOBOs and mentioned that he had a pretty nice venue and he would let get into it if we advertised his goods and services.....sounds good to me! At that point, Team Houston aquired DE ANGELO. De Angelo brought us to the BEST and most CURRENT venue, FUNPLEX!


HOBO 15(3/7/09) i wont go too much into detail but i will let you know that RAZER FINALLY climbed to the top and claimed a HOBO. We all knew it would happen ONE day but it happened to be at HOBO 15. Razer had to take out infinity to claim 1st. Now that the smash stuff is out of the way, lets get to the DRAMA and BLOOD that has to deal with a player named SandTrap(the following is taken from the HOBO 15 results thread and it IS a true story)!

Everbody in the room saw them and ignored them cause they just walked in(to "look around") and then walked out. Well little did we know that a player by the name of sand trap(SUPER SAIYAN SANDTRAP) put on his scouter and realized the kids had walked out of the room with HIS back-pack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sand trap's anger level increased to maximum capacity and then he LITERALLY(im NOT lying) teleported out side the tourney room and faced the little minion from the abyss!!! The kid saw SSS(super saiyan sandtrap), decided he didnt want to make a scene, then ran like a bat out of h3ll towards the parking lot......................


AHAHAHHAH NOT a PROBLEM FOR THE LEGENDARY SSS! THE LiTTLE BOY MADE A BIG MISTAKE!!!


SSS simply teleported out into the parkinglot where the little *** hole had went to escape on his tricycle(high class). SSS KNEW the final showdown was at hand and he could NOT back down even though he was taught all his life to run away!!!!Its kinda funny cause I remember it like it was yesterday(OMG, it WAS yesterday!!!). In fact, it happened in few quick step. Im sure you could try these at home if you really wanted to!


1. SSS dash grabbed(not shield grabbed) the kid by the neck and put him in a head lock and said "gimmi them there back-o-pack" and the little kid retorted "F No motha ****a"

2. SSS did a shoryuken to the kids ribs.

3. SSS then said " OBEY ME little poop face! i want my done did done there back pack" and the boy simply replied " how bout you suck my ****"

4. SSS picked the kid up by his FACE(that must hurt) and then slammed the boy on the cold, hard, delicious parking lot floor. The crater was about the size of a football field.

5. Recived 53 experience points, 232 gold and a back pack.



Ok now, last part! Right aftr SSS took care of business, a ONE ARMED COP( i do not lie) came up there and grabed the kid. Arrested him and set in down in a chair and asked him question. The stupid little kid did nothing but back talk and tell the cop how "the back pack is mine" or "sss is lying" or " blah blah i steal and im not sorry for it blah blah". The cop then EXPLODED(like Samuel L jackson does in "pulp fiction") and told the kid to "shut the BEEP up before i beat the motha BEEP-in BEEP out of your BEEP-in BEEP."


XYRO edit: at this part of the story, i pooped my pants(seriously, there were little chunks of squishy-ness) because ive never seen a 1 armed samual L jackson. AWESOME!


That explosion shut the little kid up quite fast! The 1 armed cop questioned the little kid(who is 12) then SSS(who is 21 or 22) and took the kid off to jail! TO JAIL! WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!

So the moral of the story is: SandTrap will beat the **** out of you if you take his back pack!!!

Ok so a few more weeks down the road of Houston smash and the next event to appear would be the LARGEST tournament the city of HOUSTON would ever come to face: WORLD HOBO!!!!!!!!!!



Sub chapter 1: WORLD HOBO and the Metaknight debate

In this subchapter, im gonna unleash a bit of truth that alot of players(mainly the ones who support metaknight) will not like and will forever argue. This section is also about my BIGGEST decision(smash wise) on the future of Metaknight in the Houston smash scene.


WORLD HOBO (whobo) was held on Easter weekend at the Mariot Hotel, Woodlands, tx in 2009.

WHOBO was supposed to be a Regional/National event. It was supposed to bring in all sorts of players and characters from all across this beautiful country. From low end skill to the TOP level of skill, this event was supposed to be HUGE. It was ACTUALLY all of that and MORE! Players from states like tx/la/ks/ok/nj/fl/ca/mi/nm and even mexico attended. A multitude of characters AND top players filled the room, even the attendace broken ALL previous records with 140 players entering in 4 events. This was truly a NATIONAL/REGIONAL event and it was HOUSTON, tx! WHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH man i am so amazing i even impress myself as i write this.

Take a look at the results of world hobo. See any thing odd? Scary? Down right ****ing disgusting? I went ahead and highlighted the IMPORTANT part in sky blue. For those of you that cannot see blue ill just type this **** for you..... Out of the top 11 players, 9 used metaknight to get to where they placed. Now right of the bat, there are people who say "so what?" and then there are others(the smart ones) who are saying "wtf that **** is retarded as hell. We need to do something about metaknight!"

Well, im one of the smart ones(but you already knew that) and decided to act. I brought up the idea of banning meta again which lots agreed on and lots disagreed on. I reminded people that metaknight WAS and will ALWAYS be a problem and WHOBO was a GREAT example of it. The PRO bans agreed with me(the intelligent side) while the ANTI ban side started to john and de-grade WHOBO, saying it wasnt a TRUE national(though it was). They said that there wasnt enough representation(lol there was PLENTY of rep, just not the kind THEY wanted). They even insulted the turnout(140 is actually VERY good). Pretty much the ANTI ban side did whatever it took to make the world believe that what happened at WHOBO was nothing more than a fluke and that metaknight should stay legal.

** im going to pause here for a sec and explain something about the anti ban side**

The morons who DEFEND metaknight(anti ban) doing the folloing:

1. Main metaknight
2. 2nd metaknight
3. Lose with thier main and switch to metaknight and win the set/mm....ect
4. Will eventually do number 1 and 2 and 3.
5. Claim snake is the best character in the game.

They do this because metaknight has ZERO bad stages and ZERO bad match-ups. The worst it gets when it comes to stages is FINAL DESTINATION(btw, meta can ban that stage) and even then, its 50-50(btw, thats not a disadvantage for meta). The worst it gets when it comes to a match-up is diddy kong or snake and even then, its 50-50(dont tell anybody but....thats STILL not a disadvantage for meta). Meta can combo better than ANY character in the game(yea, even diddy) and his moves has transcending priority(which means it doesnt clank with other moves, it beats it). He has 4 or 5 jumps and ALL of his B moves can bring him back to the stage(he can glide from his jumps AND his UP+B). His tornado DRAINS shields faster than all other attacks in the game and INCREASES in priority the longer its out. He can gimp 99% of the cast at near 0% as well as perform a tactic known as "plainking" this tactic involves him abusing his transcending priority attacks with his invincibility from the ledge. M2k and several other metaknight has said this tactc(if done right) CANNOT be stopped unless you metaknight ditto.

Metaknight isnt just the BEST character in the game, hes the best by a LARGE margin and has ZERO weakness wether its by stage or character(he breaks the CP system). Look at any match-up chart/tier list/tourney stat list and you will see the truth.

Right, so after calling the anti ban kids several bad names and proving them wrong(like always) i decided to give a meta ban event another go: HOBO 16. The anti ban side said it wouldnt be any different. Dojo and the other metaknights would still place where they normaly would because metaknight didnt get them where they are, thier SKILL did. Well how about we do some stat checking shall we(prepare, im about to molest the anit ban side in the next few sentences)? DOJO at WHOBO got 2nd place(losing to a meta in the GFs) after beating MANY MANY MANY hard players with his SKILL(not metaknight, lol)! At hobo 16 he got 4th using diddy, losing to people who he NORMALY beats...............whoa now wait a second, WAIT JUST A ONE **** MINUTE! I thought his SKILL would still get him top 2? Nope. It seems his LACK of METAKNIGHT got him 4th. Without metaknight(his main) he WILL NOT WIN an event. Case ****ing closed you stupid piece of anti ban ****(not you dojo, just the anti ban side). Locate the nearest butcher knife and ram it in your eye!

After hearing positive feed back from hobo 16 and hearing that people really enjoyed the lack of metaknight i decided to sit down and really ponder if i should ban meta forever. Many many things went through my tasty skull: Will i hurt anybody if i ban meta(the ones who steal wins from innocent children)? Will my attendac drop(look at hobo 17 to see what happens)? To seal the deal, I had a talk with dojo and infinity(because these guys would be screwed up the most if i ban meta) and they both said they do not support my idea but will go to hobos anyway because they are fun and the people there are kick ***. Once that convo was done, i felt MUCH more at ease about banning metaknight so i DID IT! I Sent that fat *** bat back to hell where he came from. METAKNIGHT IS OFFICIALY BANNED IN HOUSTON!!!!!


PS: dojo, i am more serious than i have ever been thus far. Your a good mexico and i like you(in a homo and non homo way). I have NOTHING against you or your match stealing character. I respect you and your abilities at all times. So when you read the paragraphs above do not think they are there to make you look bad or make fun of you or whatever. Some Gamestops will be having a Smash tourney on March 9th weekend when Brawl comes out. I was TOLD that it will be Melee, but I'm thinking it will actually be Brawl. I believe it is Nintendo sponsored and free to enter. If you win the local one, you'll move on the district championships. Win the district, and you'll move onto regional. The top 8 in each region will get to go to LA for the championships. I don't know what any of the prizes are or what the ruleset will be, but it certainly is worth investigating if you have the time. At the very least, it's a free trip to LA. I believe the tournaments will be held ONLY at Gamestops that are having Midnight Openings, so check with the store nearest you for more info.

Also, be sure you guys register for the Trash Day tournament that will be taking place at UH in April. It will almost certainly be Brawl. There will be other fighting games there as well, and many OOC/OOS people usually show up...
