I haven't seen this in the guides, and knowing my luck as with my last 3-4 things I've "discovered" it's been found, just not highly talked about -.-

but let me get on to the lock:

Full hop the boomerang, and throw it slightly down, if it hits and knocks down the opponent (like it should so long it is not shielded or reflected) you can arrow cancel your arrow (the distance for this must be practiced!!!) and it will do a "force getup" for your opponent. (where they must getup without attacking or rolling)

This allows you to: move forward a little, and lock them again (I've gotten 3 consecutive locks in some friendlies) but the timing for this is strict since they might be able to powershield it.

Along with that, at any give time you can run and true pivot, or start charging an up-B very quickly and releasing.

Very fun to do in a match :lick:

Hope I at least brought this out more...

ps Link replaced Ganon as one of my two secondaries ^^; mostly due to Ganon having only 2 styles that I could use well and all my friends have learned to punish the styles :\ and Link is soooo versatile and able to change styles at any time, I love it ^_^

tl;dr Some n00b came and posted common knowledge, or so the n00b thinks.

It's known that arrows can cause jab lock-like effects, but nice to know you're still trying to provide help. Also, how do you practice different distances for arrow cancels? It's a set distance.

You have to know about where to throw the boomerang so that when you Arrow Cancel, the arrow locks the opponent ;) it's just very slightly different for the large/small characters (or at least it seams like it)

Ooohhh, I thought you meant controlling how far the flight of the arrow was, I was like "is that even possible?"

I need a visual on this one >_> I might make vids for the Link boards but I don't even know what this is.

....

Hey, am I unofficial video maker for the Link boards? :D If so, I have an idea.... a good idea.

I just tried it, it's possible.

Though a jab lock would be much better to use, it's both easier and more helpful then the BAL.

I'll make a video for this, if you like.

I have a vid, but I can't upload to youtube (it makes my router "die" sort of :o idk.. blame Verizon..) so if you would kindly make the vid, I would be thankful :)

1. This is 10folds easier then a Jab Lock
2. It can be done multiple times in a row with good timing.
3. It can be followed up with basically any move of your choice ^_^ making it great for starting a low % gimp.

Oh I see what you mean now. Yeah it's not a bad thing to do, seemed like.......

Not obvious but hmm, for lack of a better word, I'll say natural. Like it just seems that someone would do this naturally, without thinking about it too much. Still, good job Havokk!

The video doesn't show the many ways to follow this up, including another BAC/BACL :) hence you can keep this going and going to the edge, then finish it.

Not something I'd do naturally xD but I guess your right

sorry, Havok, but I don't see this as being very useful. By the looks of your vid, it seems somewhat difficult to set-up and even more difficult to *lock*. (If you would like to refer to it as such) Although it may help you rack up about 20% of damage, it certainly won't lock your opponent in the way a jab lock does. :(

This was from yesterday. xD (the vid at least) I spent all last night getting better :3

I can pull it off 3-4 times in a match, its GREAT for finishing someone your having problems to kill, and I've even chained 3 of them together :chuckle: give it a shot, you'll see its more useful then it seems.

If they bounce the wrong way (for whatever reason) it also sets them up perfectly for a jab lock ;)

ok... I'll take your word for it and try it myself. If things go well, I might add this to my guide... :)

I was doing it wrong -.- I'll get a vid of the "correct" way up when I can find a friend who understands how to be a dummy xD

Full hop > throw boom > AC land > Lock > Punish get up = correct

@ link specialist

Yes, I have had them come towards me. Thats simply a closer boom throw to where the wind effect reverses. perfect for setting up a jab lock

Oh, I thought you actually did the fullhop boomerang > arrow cancel > whatever...
there's no arrow canceling involved in this at all =/
It's the same as a standing boomerang > arrow lock or jab lock
I thought about the fullhop boomerang > arrow lock for a bit, and I think the arrow would hit them too early to begin a lock so nahhh
Sorry, this isn't really anything special

I can't really show you the boomerang > Arrow cancel lock unless its a target moving at you.

the problem with them standing still is that you cannot hit them with the boomerang and still arrow cancel the landing, they have to be moving at you.

It works and I've done it >.< and I'll try my best to get a vid up.

yeah, what legan said on the youtube, "rang => arrow -> dac" that is probably the most you will get out of this combo, good to point out though.

whenever you hit them with the arrow in a lock kind of fashion, it forces them to get up without attacking? Good to know.

The boomerang seems to hit them annoyingly far away. Can you change up the approach so you're closer when you fire the arrow? It'd be cool if you could combo it into a jab lock. If they're as far away as in that video, they can pretty much just roll away and escape and they've only taken what, 10 damage?

With the fact that they can't roll........ how do they roll away?

You can follow up the arrow with a running up-B, fsmash, dsmash, ANY aerial, another BAL/BACL, a bomb...ANYTHING....

All neutral stages (possibly not Lylat when its tilted strongly, or Yoshi's Island (Brawl) that little mid platform)

It should also work on any length of flat/almost flat areas on any stages that is long enough to allow the boomerang hitback (so no Norfair, etc.)

@loot
i need 2 lurk moars... :o

I just tried it, and I guess it works, but not incredibly well. IDK, I'll test it some more, but its only practical use in competitive plays seems to be Boomerang->Arrow->DAC.

3 of these locks chained to a charged Up-b would work? if so, this = amazing, great for KOs.
On characters with a slow getup animation, you can lock them 2-3~ times on FD, with good timing, then run up and jump-cancel a (barely) charged up-B.

I get a lot of my KO's with BACL, I'd say roughly 1/3 of my KO's are with using this.

wait... i heard in a different thread yesterday that it is possible to roll away or attack while getting up if they input the command at the right time, it's just difficult to time it right because of the bouncing... so which is it? Is it literally impossible to do anything other than slow get-up, or is it just difficult to do it?

Just difficult. I have put opponents in the "fish flop" wobble before, and seen them roll away afterwards.

You can tech the boomerang knockdown. Which means you can tech-roll it by teching and inputting a direction to roll at the same time.

More often then not, people don't talk boomerang knockback... reason why, I have no clue.... -_- I think it's a little known fact you can tech it or something? lol
