Be fast and kill stuff without a choice lock. EVs outspeed Choice Scarf Timid Heatran after a +2 speed boost.

Other Options:

Hammer Arm, Trick, Magnet Rise, Iron Defense, Light Screen, Iron Head. Rain Dance if you're insane.

EVs:

Do whatever you need Metagross to do. It can fill many roles. After that, maximize the pain.

Troublesome Pokemon:

Anything with good Fire or Ground attacks. Garchomp, Hippowdon, Swampert and Heatran, Infernape, or the rare Typhlosion work here. Also look for Choice Band or Dragon Dance variants of Tyranitar, as they will generally outspeed you and hit equally hard. Metagross is usually walled on its best attacking types, Steel and Ground, and the opponent may make an effort to status you, since Metagross is usually pretty slow. Watch out for things with sleep or burn inducing moves. Metagross is too dangerous to have legitimate counters.

This set carries a healthy dose of suprise and **** for your opponent. With almost as great physical defensive as and a greater Special Defense than Skarmory and Forretress, it is surprising that a set like this has not been made before. However, without a decent recovery move like Skarmory, it seemed that Metagross would only be remembered as a scary as **** sweeper that eats children for lunch. This set is amazingly simple: switch in on any physical attacker, use Hammer Arm to lower your speed, then fire off boosted Gyroballs. Some benifits that Hammer Arm gives you is that Skarmory outspeeds you, so when they Roost, they will get him with a now Super Effective Hammer Arm. *will do more description later*

If you want Metagross to be as slow as possible (for optimizing Gyro Ball's damage) wouldn't it be better to use a Relaxed nature?

Not really. You aren't really aiming to sweep. I need some speed to hit the likes of Blissey before that ho WouWs me.
