#445 Garchomp
Typing: Ground / Dragon
Ability: Sand Veil
108/130/95/80/85/102

Choice Scarf

Garchomp@ Choice Scarf
Sand Veil: Jolly
252 Attack/ 252 Speed/ 4 Any thing else lol.
~Outrage
~EarthQuake
~Dragon Claw/Stone Edge
~Sleep Talk/ Stone Edge

Scarf Chomp. Though this set lacks the power that many Pokemon rely on in the Uber tier, it makes up what if lacks in power with its massive speed. With a whooping 499 Speed, it outspeeds almost everything in the Uber Tier, such common threats as Deoxys-A, Scarf Kyogre, Rock Polish Groudoun, and its more powerful brother, Rayquaza after a DD or two. The only thing that this set doesn't outpace is other Scarf'd Pokemon and Deoxys-S, who much invest heavily into speed, and will not be able to switch into Garchomp without sustaining major damage.

Outrage and Earthquake are obviously included for their wonderful STAB and coverage. Dragon Claw is for eliminating more frail threats, such as Mewtwo, without being locked into Outrage, which could potentially spell death for Garchomp in the early game. Stone Edge gives you something to hit Lugia with, but even with Sand Storm and Stealth Rocks in play, Garchomp stands no chance of 2HKOing Lugia (The Standard Smogon Set "Great Wall). Sleep Talk can be effectively used to counter Darkrai, abosrbing the sleep, and maybe even revenging Darkrai in the process. Also notable, it also lets Garchomp use Outrage without being locked in. However, once you wake up, you will have to switch out.

This set is most effectively used in the late game for 'clean up' when you know most of your opponents Pokemon and most of them weakened into a state where Garchomp can safely pick them off. This set also enjoys the ability Sand Veil, which lower the accuracy of Ice Beams and other attacks to 80% giving Garchomp hopefully more survivability, and also Dark Void 64% chance to hit.

Choice Band

Garchomp@ Choice Band
Sand Veil: Jolly
252 Attack/ 252 Speed/ 4 anythings
~Outrage
~Earthquake
~DragonClaw/Fire Fang
~StoneEdge/Crunch

538 Attack. Just think about that for a second. Now add in 333 Speed and awesome Ground and Dragon STAB. Now stop playing with your ****, as your neighbors are staring. Very few things can safely switch into this set without promptly being OHKO-2HKOd. Though this set lacks the ridiculous speed of the above set, this set just rips though teams like a hot butter though a knife. Yes, hot butter though a knife.

Outrage and Earthquake are required by law to be on every Garchomp set for obvious reasons. Just look at the Scarf Set for explanations if your stupid *** forgot. Dragon Claw is a decent choice if you don't want to risk being stuck in Outrage for 2-3 turns. Fire Fang can be used if you are paranoid about Skarmory and the Flying Fortress, but that’s all it can really be used for. Stone Edge and Crunch both give you the ability (a chance at least for Crunch) to 2HKO Lugia ("Great Wall" set) but only if SR and SS are in play should it be attempted. Even then you should approach with caution, because Stone Edge can miss, and Crunch...well, only do it if you have Crunch, Sand Storm, and Stealth Rocks out, and you are sure that the Lugia is not running a quicker set. Crunch can also be used to hit some slower Psychic-types hard.

This set, as with all sets, enjoys Sand Veil, which could cause many would-be fatal attacks to miss.

*ehem* "Yache" Chomp
Garchomp@ Yache Berry/Haban Berry/Lum Berry
Sand Veil: Jolly
252 Attack/ 252 Speed/ 4 anythings
~Outrage/Dragon Claw
~Earthquake
~Swords Dance
~Substitute/StoneEdge
Ah, the Yache-Chomp of OU returns for a new battle ground call the Uber Tier. This set functions almost identically to the old Yache-Chomp, but now tailored to the demanding needs of Uber. Yache Berry softens up the Ice attacks that you are sure to draw, Haban berry is for the dragon attacks that are omnipresent in Uber, and Lum Berry is to stop Sleep and Burn from ruining your sweep. So basically to use this set, if you don't know how, is to theoretically come in on something that Garchomp scares the **** out of, SD on the switch, choose the most appropriate move for the "counter" coming in.

The decision between Outrage and Dragon Claw is a hard one. Dragon Claw allows for more maneuvering, while sacrificing power. Outrage grants you significantly greater power, but locks you into it for at least 2 turns and gives you confusion afterwards, which could ruin your sweep. Earthquake is necessary for hitting the Steels, and StoneEdge will OHKO Lugia ("Great Wall Set") after a SD. Substituting on the switch however, allows you to scout for attacks/switches, so you can decide to either attack, switch, or SD up.

However, this much more easily said than done in the Uber tier. With threats such as Mewtwo, Deoxys, Latios, Scarfed Pokemon (Kyogre in particular), and even some Lugia outpacing you, and threatening you with an OHKO, this set is much harder to pull off then in OU. Never the less, one should never underestimate this set, for it can pose a massive threat to any team.

Extra Options

Substitute in unison with a Salac berry, or it could be used with Endure for Salac+ Endure set lol. Brick Break can be used if you are crazy or have a death wish, along with Dragon Rush, Scary Face, Roar, Rest, Shadow Claw, Aqua Tail, and Captivate. Dig can be used for the lulz though. If you want, you could make a Brightpower+Substitute+Sand Attack+EQ+Dragon Claw set, but to be honest it is balls. Same with Rest-talk set, because many things in Ubers OHKO you. It is highly recommended that you do not run Adamant because it allows Base 90s with a Speed boosting nature to outspeed you, giving away your one advantage over Rayquaza, speed.

EVs

It is highly recommended that you run 252 Attack and 252 Speed on all Garchomp Sets. The remaining 4 EVs can go anywhere.

Troublesome Pokemon

Every set has different counters. The Choiced Scarf set is best countered by Lugia, who has access to Ice Beam, Reflect, and is able to Roost off the damage afterwards. The Choice Band set is best taken care of by good predictions, because nothing likes taking such powerful hits. Metagross can come in on anything not named Earthquake and can Ice Punch him to hell. Lugia can come in on any attack that Garchomp can throw, but only if Lugia has not sustained any previous damage, no Stealth Rocks are out, and runs a speed boosting nature to outspeed Jolly Chomps. For the SD Chomp, you have to switch in something that outspeeds Garchomp as he SDs, and can OHKO him before he can you. Very few things can safely switch into Garchomp, and Sand Veil makes countering harder. It cuts 100% accurate moves to 80%, letting Garchomp become an even greater threat. Rayquaza's Air Lock however, by passes this, and can take out a large chunk of Garchomp with a well-placed Extreme Speed.
