EVERYONE PLEASE READ:

I want to address something that people have been talking about regarding Justin and SFIV: so that no one gets the story wrong, Justin got to the hotel at about 11:30pm Saturday night, not 1:00 AM, not 2:00 AM. The decision to give him (and the other players that were considered "top") a bye was Larry's decision, and I back him up on it - it gives other less-skilled players a chance to compete without immediately getting peaced out. The fact that Justin was at the bottom of the bracket was also Larry's decision, because he wanted to give the guy a chance to get here before immediately sending him to the loser's bracket in case his plane got delayed (and whadda you know? It did!). That didn't matter though - where you show up on the bracket has no bearing when I run a tournament, I will skip matches to get other matches done until I absolutely cannot skip any more matches and the tournament is being held up. Then, unfortunately, you get DQ'd (which, by the way, actually happened very little over the weekend - I think there were only two before Sunday evening).

By the time Justin got to the hotel, I had already started running both the winner's side and the loser's side of the bracket just to get as many matches out of the way as possible with the people that decided to hang around - we didn't have time for a bunch of waiting around on matches with a bracket that big. Nothing had to be held for him - I treated him just like I treat everyone else when I run a bracket, and gave him the benefit of the doubt. There were PLENTY of other matches that couldn't be run because people just left for whatever reason without saying anything. However, I didn't DQ them and decided to give them an opportunity to continue on considering the circumstances, so I went on to other matches. All those DQ's that you guys heard Charles shouting out didn't actually happen, because that's not the way that I like to do things.

So, let me make this as clear as possible: Justin did NOT get any preferential treatment. He got what exactly what everyone else did.

And that being said, he showed up in time to play his 2nd round winners match (because of the 1st round bye), he won, and he went on to day two, and to win.

Thank you all for your constructive criticism - we realize that there were some issues with lag after the fact, but I had no idea at the time - not one single person even mentioned it to me personally until we were in the top 32. We are working as I write this to improve the experience for all of you, and I have a STRONG feeling that you guys are going to be VERY happy with some of the changes that are going to be made. I'm glad everyone had such a good time - I know I did!

You'd have to ask somebody who was running it what time the brackets stopped.

I know there was a LONG gap between the 2 (like, hours).

Thanks to everyone that came to FR12. I'm planning for another tournament later this year and this will be the final test to see if Smash will make it in FR13 or any other future FR's. Yo PB&J and chadd, I need to talk to ya'll asap. I'm trying to support the smash community, but it doesn't seem like Final Round is being taken seriously in this community. I appreciate everything you guys have done to support FR, but if things don't change I don't know how much longer I will run smash at my events. We need to talk so I can try to make this next event the best I can make it for smash players. I want to be clear on rules and and everything before making this new tournament thread.
