Link's Arrows!

Here we have an archive of sorts, to see how Link's arrows do against other enemy projectiles. It's a work in progress, and should be updated daily.

If you see something that I might've forgotten, feel free to let me know and I'll get right on it. I won't be doing any items.

I consider anything like Bowser's fire something worth mentioning.

I'd also like to take the time to say 'hello' to the AiB Links. I know you're curious, so you're peeking in this thread.

Disclaimer: I am not saying this is particularly useful information. I don't suggest you commit this to memory unless you're really trying to find every possible strategy to develop your playstyle. This thread is dedicated to those who stayed, despite the tough mods that kept you guys down.

Wins = Arrows beat this projectile.
Clashes = Arrows clash with this projectile, and they cancel each other.
Loses = Arrows get stopped, and the projectile goes through.

I'll individually marked charged or not if there's a difference. If you only see one answer, than that means both charged and uncharged have the same effect.

:bowser2:
Fire
Uncharged - Lose
Charged - Win

:charizard:
Flamethrower
Uncharged - Lose
Charged - Win

Rock Smash - Lose

:diddy:
Peanut
Uncharged Peanut vs. Uncharged Arrow - Win
Charged Peanut vs. Uncharged Arrow - Win
Uncharged Peanut vs. Charged Arrow - Win
Charged Peanut vs. Charged Arrow - Win

Banana - Win

:gw:
Chef - Clash

:popo:
Ice Blocks - Lose

Special case again. The arrow, whether charged or not will reflect the ice block in the opposite direction. It can be thought of as both a clash or lose.

Blizzard - Win

:ivysaur:
Razorleaf - Clash

:dedede:
Waddledees, doos, and gordos - Lose

Just like the ice blocks, arrows will only reflect these projectiles, but they'll still be there.

:link2:
Arrow - Clash
(Every combination clashes.)

Bombs
Uncharged - Lose
Charged - Clash

Boomerang - Clash

:lucario:
Aura Sphere
Uncharged Arrow clashes with an uncharged Aura Sphere.
Charged Arrow clashes with a fully Charged Aura Sphere until: 100%

Force Palm
Uncharged - Clash
Charged - Win

:lucas:
PK Fire - Lose
PK Thunder - Clash

:luigi2:
Fireball - Clash

:mario2:
Fireball - Clash
FLUDD - Lose

:ness2:
PK Fire - Lose
PK Thunder - Clash

:olimar:
Pikmin Throw
White Pikmin - Win
Blue Pikmin - Clash
Yellow Pikmin - Clash
Red Pikmin - Clash
Purple Pikmin - Clash

:peach:
Turnip - Clash

:pikachu2:
Thunderjolt - Clash

:pit:
Light Arrows - Clash

:rob:
Laser - Win
Gyro - Clash

:samus2:
Charged Shot - Lose

Uncharged Charge Shot
Uncharged Arrow - Clash
Charged Arrow - Win

Large Missile - Clash
Small Missile - Clash

Bombs
Arrows have no effect.

:shiek:
Needles
Uncharged - Clash
Charged - Win

This is a special case. If a charged arrow goes low enough, it'll beat the needles.
If an uncharged arrow is launched, the first needle will cancel it. So this can be considered both a win and lose, but you'll never hit with the arrow.

:snake:
Grenade - Lose
Nikita Missile - Clash

Box Taunt
Uncharged - Clash
Charged - Win

It reflects the missile toward the ground.

Cypher - Clash

:sonic:
Spring - Win

:squirtle:
Watergun - Lose

:toonlink:
Arrows - Clash

Bombs
Uncharged - Lose
Charged - Clash

Boomerang - Clash

:wario:
Small tire - Clash
Big tire - Clash

:zerosuitsamus:
Neutral B - Clash
Dsmash - Win
Armor Pieces - Clash

Good stuff, Straked! I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. Only thing I could recommend is possibly adding character heads, for the more visual people.

Also, something interesting when I was testing Bombs for a different project was that Bombs thrown on the ground dealed 8% or 7%, while bombs thrown in the air dealt 9%. Would this mean they have different priorities...? [Fresh Bombs]

Oh yeah, that'd actually be better than just having colors...
I usually do this sort of thing, thanks for reminding me!

Bombs deal different %'s based on speed, wouldn't change priorities, just damage output.

Oh yeah, that'd actually be better than just having colors...

Afterward, you can make it in ABC order (or I can...) I don't like Brawl's up-down-right-repeat organization.

Also don't forget things like FLUDD, Watergun, Snake's Nikita, Snake's box, etc.

EDIT:

Good job so far, keep up the good work. :)

Updated, Wario's Tires and all on Link's projectiles have been added.

Oh, yeah. I'll do ABC order as soon as I finish every character.
Feel free to edit anything you'd like.

^^ ZSS' Dsmash is a projectile as well. Just thought I'd throw that in. I see character heads have been added...good stuff. Oh, and thanks for giving me that bit of info Havokk, wasn't clear on that...plus I forgot this was about arrows and not bombs, bombs haven't been posted yet. >__>

Zamus dsmash? Yeah, thanks for reminding me. I only know that because it can be absorbed with Ness/Lucas PSI Magnet.

I'm working on Samus right now, this should take some time. I'll take a break before starting her.

Edit: Just updated Samus results, I find that to be... surprising! Arrows might be better than we thought.

It's done!

I went ahead and took the number of wins Link has against all the projectiles and divided it by the total number of projectiles [15/57] to get a winning record of approximatly 26.32%. That's pretty good...but I believe you forgot one projectile...Meta Knight.

Oh, 1000th post! Nice.

It's really not that bad, I figured arrows were practically useless, only there for racking up damage.

The only threatening projectile that arrows LOSE to is a Samus fully charged shot. Oh, and bombs.
Congrats on 1,000, by the way!

ZSS armour pieces.

Also what about the arrow being in the ground? Does that change what it cancels? (Weak shot, its in the ground for a small while.... does that change anything at all?)

And very nice :)

EDIT:

Although you only tested charged if uncharged LOST.... if it CLASHES then charged may still WIN... I'd look into that if you can

EDIT2:

I can put it in ABC order if you like :) you've done a lot of hard work already.

I forgot to mention armor pieces, I already have the data on that.

Arrows on the ground have no lingering effect, that was tested by accident. xD
Thanks.

No, I tested them all individually. If uncharged lost, I still tried again, it only took an extra 20 seconds of my time. That's exactly how I figured out charged arrows go through fire whereas uncharged shots lose.

Edit: If you'd like to alphabetize them, feel free to do so now. :bee:

Does that mean whether its charged or uncharged, it clashes with all but white?

Yeah, if I don't tell you otherwise, it means both charged and uncharged have the same effect.

Thanks, I'll get right on that.

Edit: It took 10 seconds to test that, both charged and uncharged lose to rock smash.

For sake of completeness:

Snake - Cypher

Yoshi - Egg Roll (side-B) -- curious to see if it beats it >: I hate this move

Squirtle (side -b) - Will stop momentum/change it.. I can promise you that <.<

What about Lucario's AURA!!!! (unless it makes no difference)

Test %'s:

10%

25%

50%

75%

100%

125%

150%

170%
^ it stops there

AND---

I will NOT have you do this unless they've made a hack to 100% pull something....:

Peach - Sword/Mr. Saturn/Bomb (hers have special properties I believe.. I know the bobomb is overly powerful and the sword is 'weak' until thrown...)

Alright, I'll get right on those last requests. Although I'm sure Aura makes no difference.

I can test Snake's cypher on Spear Pillar, I'm thankful for that cave.

I can always use training mode and get Swords, Saturns, and Bob-ombs...

Edit: Since Squirtle's side-b isn't exactly a projectile, I'm only going to answer in this post.

Uncharged Arrow - Clashes
It slows Squirtle down, but he still moves forward.

Charged arrow was ridiculously hard to do, but I managed on Bridge of Eldin.

Charged Arrow - Clashes
It reflects him backwards.

Also, lol. You said 'Egg Roll'.

Aura makes the projectile stronger <_< I'd assume it makes a large difference.....

Peach's have special properties I do believe... like I said, her Beam Sword is weaker until thrown once, her Bobomb is like x10 powerful....

Alright, tested the egg roll (lol).
Both uncharged and charged arrows cancel Yoshi's eggroll. If you wait until he's right in front of you before you shoot the arrow, he'll be open for an fsmash.

I love you.

Because that move is blasphemy I tell you....

(apparently this was all common knowledge among the old Link's, it just wasn't in a topic really.... so I guess its nice to have it in a topic?)

Also, for Squirtle's Side-B, its like Yoshi's Egg Roll. It treats him as a projectile.

So for sakes of completeness, I'd add it to your post.

Once everything adds, I'll organize it ABC order.... that way when I click "save" for the edit, we don't lost anything you added while I was organizing.

Whoa, interesting stuff, that aura. A charged arrow will clash with every full charged aura sphere until Lucario is at 100%. So at 101%, the Arrow loses.

I believe you, I hate that move so much. >__>
Yoshi's Egg Roll.

Alright, everything is completed with the exception of Snake's Cypher.

Edit: Done, Snake's Cypher clashes every time.

I told you Aura would make a difference.

So 100% is the cap, neato. Thanks for testing. :)

Yoshi's Egg Roll: (Yummy!)
It's like KAPOW. and when I shield it, and try to break him out of it, I fail, and he goes KAPOW. and I start going "WTFHAX" and its like... KAPOW!!!! and then he breaks out :3... but then... :o he starts it again T_T... and its like KAPOW!!!!!!!!! /god I need sleep

Snake's Cypher really isn't that important :p its just for sake of being complete...

EDIT:

What about if Lucario's Aura Sphere it charged/uncharged?

I don't see a matchup for that like you did Link's arrows or Diddy's Peanut Gun

I didn't notice a difference until you suggested I try it again.

Yup, that's absolutely every projectile. Well, things like Falco's lasers won't work. >___>
I don't get that, if they can cause hitstun... why can't it be stopped?

I lol'd at the eggroll summary. xD

Edit: Because Aura caps at 170%, right?

Uncharged Arrows still clash at 170%.
Charged Arrow clashes with uncharged aura sphere at 170%.

I meant uncharged arrow vs CHARGED aura sphere at x%

Did you test with Aura Sphere CHARGED and UNCHARGED?

Oh yeah. An uncharged arrow versus any Aura Sphere past 1% loses.

Yeah, it took about 15 minutes, but that's all of the aura data.

No. I've already tested every possible projectile, and Falco's laser doesn't make contact.

Thanks Zack. ^^

The cases like Waddle Dee and Ice Blocks that you have as "Lose" aren't really "Lose", but a special case of Clash.

Specifically, it could be said that the projectiles clash, but the opponent's projectile has a special behaviour when it clashes.

Also, I am quite sure you're simply misrepresenting the interaction with the PK Fires. The PK Fire should deploy into its collision form if it hits an arrow. That is its property: Either PK Fire, while having either infinite or null priority depending on how you look at it, will deploy when it strikes something. Your arrow was negated, but the PK Fire was negated, too. It's just that, this is what PK Fire does when it is negated.

Similarly, Waddle Dees aren't really projectiles, they're objects. You don't "win" against them because you can't go through them, but you don't lose because they stop too. You clashed; it's just that the Waddle Dee responds by being knocked back.

You should edit some format in which to express these properties into your system. While it's just my feeling that these belong under a 'Clash' heading, I think it would serve the best to put the data there. Alternately, you could have a Special property. It's your thread.

EDIT: And you should include the interaction with Ness' yoyo.

I was gonna touch every thing up when I had more time. I appreciate you pointing that out, though.
When PK Fire collides with an arrow, it goes into effect. (ie. Lucas's just bursts into blames, Ness PK Fire creates a pillar.) In a sense, it's both a lose and a clash. But it's not likely Link will actually be hit by either, so it's considered a clash.

Waddle Dees in this sense count as a projectile, any sort of item that can be used to your advantage. (Well, Dedede's advantage.)

I'm working on it now, thanks for the suggestions.

JUST for the samus part.
bombs can cancel out arrows okay. it doesn't happen often but if the bomb blows up and the arrow flies through it. It will lose. I'm not really sure how to test this out, Maybe Straked and I will test it out tomorrow, but I am positive about this.
