FAQ

*Please note all codes are NTSC-M unless otherwise specified.

Brawl Snapshots/Replays

Q: Is there a .bin to .jpg converter for snapshots?

A: I recommend using one of the two following:

http://xane.gamez-interactive.de/Brawl/Decrypter/
http://www.brawlsnapshots.com/

The former is very fast, but it doesn't have an online storage for your photos and as a result, you need to store them on your computer and have to upload them to ImageShack to show others. The latter can be very slow because of poor servers, but keeps an online storage of your pictures if you make an account.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How do I keep my usertag (that name above my head) from disappearing in my replays?

A: Use this short code:

Code:
Tags in replays [Y.S]
0404B140 38A00000
-------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How can I move the camera without restrictions when the game is paused? I want to be able to take good snapshots.

A: Here is the code for unlimited motion during the pause screen:

Code:
Unrestricted pause camera [Link, original Y.S.]
040A7D60 4E800020
04109D88 38800001

And here is a great thread written by Falco400 for more information:
Texture hacks without ISO hacking

Q: When I run Step 2 Create for the ASH/STASH, it says

error:
TCCheckMipMapConvParams: numLOD is greater than image 0 minimum dimension

total alloc: 3850
total freed: 3850
press <enter> to quit
A: The issue is you have a backup folder inside the same directory. Please move it out of the directory and back it up somewhere else. If you would like to back up your files, I recommend getting 2 ASH/STASH's and then having one folder be the backup folder while the other is the part you are currently working on.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Q: After running Step 2 Create in STASH, it runs almost until completion and then it says the final file size is too large. What should I do?

A: First of all, you'll need to know how to index an image. In GIMP or Photoshop, go to Image > Mode> Index and choose the number of colors you want. So, index the picture to anywhere from 32 to 150 colors (higher is better details), and then before exiting, switch its mode back to RGB (Image > Mode > RGB). Now save the file. You should notice it gets smaller, and do this with many of your images until the file size does not go over the limit.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Q: It says my image (In Step 2 Create) can only have a certain number of colors on an indexed palette. What should I do?

A: Index the image by going Image > Mode > Index and choose the number of colors it tells you to. Make sure transparency is off in this situation. Now re-run the program.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How do I start making texture hacks?

A: Download the following and click Readme.html inside each. Follow the instructions and you should be able to make some character and stage texture hacks:
ASH
STASH

-------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Where can I find texture hacks?

A: Go to the following links:
Kitty Corp Texture Gallery
Stack Smash Released Codes
Kitty Corp. Texture Hacks
Elite Smash Hackers
MeowMix

-------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How do I change the character selection screen portraits?

A: Download the following and read the guide before doing anything. Follow it closely and you should be fine.

CUPASH

-------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Small portraits don't seem to work for me? Can they work with brawl?

A: Yes they can, unfortunately, the program is slightly glitchy and outputs the following:
InfFace.###.brres
However, it should output it like this:
InfFace###.brres
These can be found inside Info\Portrite, and you have 1 inface for each character. If you have small CSP's but none are working and becoming inface.brres's, then rename them all to character1_small.tga and re-run the program. Then, when copying them over to your pf folder, change the last digit to the number it would have had on the .tga

-------------------------------------------------------------

Q: I was making a texture hack, and after I outputted it, I got a whole bunch of weird colors instead of my normal ones. What should I do?

A: Extract another copy of STASH, making sure you keep your old one and the .tga's you were using. Now, copy the outputted _new.pac from the original STASH and put it into the new STASH (STASH2 from now on). Then, extract that file. For any texture that got destroyed, just replace that file with the .tga from your original STASH. Now, re output it and it should have much better results.

Wifi

Q: I heard people are getting banned for using hacks on wifi. Anything I should worry about? What about if I play friends only?

A: No, it is very rare that Nintendo chooses to scan their servers for hacks and this is the only time you will get banned. I heard it happens more often on Mario Kart Wii wifi than on brawl, but either way it is very rare. Playing friends only will not save you, but the result is a suspension first. The error code is 20102, and go here for more information:
Online bans/suspensions

Music Hacks

Q: How can I add custom music to my Wii? Can it be done with an SD loader?

A: At the moment, it can only be done through ISO hacking, and you can find great information here:
Music Hacks at Kitty Corp

You need membership to view it, but if you are serious about getting music hacks, it is worth it.

General

Q: I can't get Ocarina to work. When I start it up, all I get is a black box with no script. I can't do anything. How do I fix this?

A: The most likely explanation is that you inserted a Gamecube memory card. Take that out and everything should work fine.

Notice the word generic. Very basic word meaning in general Q&A. Notice how that says "code Q&A" thread, IE, this is a Q&A that is more generic than the code Q&A thread. IE, it deals with more than just codes or Brawl +.

Now now children.

This topic is fine and dandy and I certainly agree with it's presence. We'll be setting up some stuff by the WBR soon enough, prettying up the entire workshop. But until that happens, a thread like this will certainly help to reduce clutter. Thank you, innili.

I'm going to be hosting a brawl+ tournament in my area. Is there some sort of standardized ruleset(mainly a stage list...) to start with, or should I just make one up on my own? Besides just switching the frozen Warioware and Pokemon Stadium 2 into neutrals, does the enhanced gravity make some stages harder to cope with?

I have a question to start you off.
For item textures, I was using VILE's guide to do it, but I ran into the issue of the common3 folder that I got following running the common3.pac through SSBBextract was empty. I re-ran it trying a number of things, and I got the same result every time, a blank folder. Any idea why?

I always get that result, what I ended up doing was requesting for 003.pac (which I can upload for you) and then just using 003.pac and my common3.pac and then I could do it all without having to extract. I was able to extract 003.pac however.

Oh and I have no idea about Brawl +, someone else will have to help you out. I do not know the regulations of Brawl +.

I know, annoying, but I have another question:

Luigi's Mansion always freezes for me. I think it happens because of Brawl+ or the custom textures, but I'm not sure. All I know is that there's a fix for it, I just don't know what it is.

Also, is there a .bin to .jpg converter or something for snapshots?

Thats your decrypter. And do you have a texture on the stage, because it could be glitchy. Also, what form of code are you using? File replacement 1.3 with the other codes or 2.1A? Don't use 2.1B from my experience, its glitchy.

I don't believe you will need a code, it should work. If not, try to get a regionless code or whatever (I think get an NTSC iso and get a regionless loader so it work or maybe it works with Brawl discs) and then use the replay.

This is why it should work:

Wiinet. You can send replays to each other through Wiinet, so they should be compatible overseas.

Thats what i thought but all the other replays work. I guess the wiinet converts it when it receives a pal wii code.

I think you have to choose random while holding the correct button.

Custom stages on wifi is:

In order to play a custom stage online you must perform the following steps:
1. Your opponent(s) must have the custom stage you intend to play
2. You must play the custom stage you intend to play in an offline Brawl FIRST
3. After you've played the stage in an offline Brawl, go online and select Random as your stage
4. If your choice is picked for the stage, your custom stage should load

I'll add that to the OP

well i have a question about that code. i put it on my sd card, and ran it through ocarina. it said it launched the code or w/e, but i held x while selecting random and it just picked a normal stage. this was during regular brawl with computers. did i do something wrong?

While attaining homebrew is by no means illegal, it can be associated with illicit activities and as such it is against this board's rules to discuss the current means of attaining it. This may change in the future, depending on the developments in methods of acquiring the Homebrew Channel.

Homebrew is quite definitely hacking. But the definition of hacking in no way means that it is always (or even usually) illegal or immoral. It is merely a prescribed meaning to it by people who don't understand it fully.

Alright i have a few questions...

1. If I load brawl w/o using homebrew, do I play brawl with no hacks? For instance, if I had some hack that would mess up wifi, but I wanted to use wifi, could I get on brawl the normal way and be able to do wifi fine?

2. How does the music hack effect wifi?

3. If I have multipe hacks on my SD card, is there a way to play with some of them, and not the others?

4. I hear there is a ban going out by Nintendo for homebrew users. If I only play in games with friends, will I avoid this ban?

5. I have the stage hack for the home run contest and it works offline but not online. I know if can work online because i've done it with somebody else who had it. So what do I need to do to get it to work?

Thanks to anybody willing to tackle those. :p

1. Yes, you can do that. It has no hacks on normal boot.

2. It overrides their music sometimes, it shouldn't desync you.

3. Nope, you have to export the code you want. Any codes that are in RSBE01.gct will get implemented on startup.

4. No, but it is very rare and only a small suspension. I've been online many times with hacks and suspended once, but its when they choose to scan their servers they can tell if you loaded through Homebrew.

5. I have no idea sorry.

So GHBHeartNeko just found how to put music into the game. Music themes like Megaman Sonic the Hedghog, Nes, SNES, Final Fantasy musics. He said by switching ISOS?

Is there already a guide established for guidance? Please and thank you for whomever to answer =)
