Phantom Wings has granted us a great ability, to be able to edit Brawl's textures without the need of burning a disc! It took him an arduous amount of work to do it and I honestly think he deserves a lot of credit so, once again, thanks Phantom Wings!
Guide:
You're going to need a few things before doing any of this:
The latest version of
Gecko OS
An SD Card
The Homebrew Channel
An SD Card Reader
Code Manager
Once you have all the necessities here's what you need to do:
1. Put Gecko OS (once unzipped) into a folder in your SD Card called "apps" (should be in the root of the card) and drop the Gecko OS folder into there (if it is not a folder and just three files, create one and put the three files in there).
2. Create a folder called "codes" in your SD Card (outside of the apps folder you created earlier).
3. Open code manager and get one of the codes below (based on your region, PAL, NTSC, or NTSC-J) and set up your .gct (If you don't know how to do this, just ask someone in the thread, I'm sure they can help! Or you can just create a text file and import it into the code manager).

4. Save the .gct as "RSBE01.gct" and save it to the codes folder. You're set now with the codes. (If you are PAL, call it "RSBP01.gct", and NTSC-J call it "RSBJ01").
5. Now here's the tricky part everyone seems to have trouble with understanding. It is not very hard to understand at all, read carefully. Make the following directory (meaning folders) in your SD Card:
NTSC-U: private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/fighter
PAL: private/wii/app/RSBP/pf/fighter
NTSC-J: private/wii/app/RSBJ/pf/fighter
Now, inside fighter you would create a specific folder for each character based on how their names are stored on the disc, the list for that is below.
Code:
Captain Falcon: captain
King Dedede: dedede
Diddy Kong: diddy
Donkey Kong: donkey
Falco: falco
Fox: fox
Mr. Game & Watch:gamewatch
Ganondorf: ganon
GIGA Bowser: gkoopa
Ike: ike
Kirby: kirby
Bowser: koopa
Link: link
Lucario: lucario
Lucas: lucas
Luigi: luigi
Mario: mario
Marth: marth
Meta Knight: metaknight
Ness: ness
Peach: peach
Pikachu: pikachu
Captain Olimar: pikmin
Pit: pit
Ivysaur: pokefushigisou
Charizard: pokelizardon
PokČmon Trainer:poketrainer
Squirtle: pokezenigame
Ice Climbers: popo
Jigglypuff: purin
R.O.B.: robot
Samus: samus
Sheik: sheik
Snake: snake
Sonic: sonic
Zero Suit Samus:szerosuit
Toon Link: toonlink
Wario: wario
Warioman: warioman
Wolf: wolf
Yoshi: yoshi
Zelda: zelda
Green Alloy: zakoball
Yellow Alloy: zakochild
Blue Alloy: zakogirl
Red Alloy: zakoboy
So, a directory for Captain Falcon would look like this: private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/fighter/captain
6. Once you have all the folders you want for the characters you want textures for, visit a few texture sites (listed below) to grab cool textures you like (this list will likely grow over time):
Stack Smash
Kitty Corp.
7. Once you have the textures you want, you need to name the texture file the color you want to replace. Each number represents a color of that character, so, 00 = default, 01 = first color, 02 = second color and so on. Now, the order of the colors can be quite confusing for each character so here is a convenient list of that below.

Here's an example of what a Captain Falcon texture file would be named if it were replacing his 01 color: FitCaptain01.pcs
And here's what the directory would look like with that finally included: private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/fighter/captain/FitCaptain01.pcs
Every character does NOT need their .pac file but, you need to name the .pac file the same way you named the .pcs file except without the .pcs extension (just the .pac extension instead) so Captain Falcon's .pac file would look like this: FitCaptain01.pac (of his first color, you need to change the number according to what you set it to for the .pcs, this is merely an example, it will not always be 01). The characters who DO need their .pac files are below:
Code:
Samus/ZSS
Zelda/Sheik
PT
Bowser
Wario
.pac files are mostly used for the other modes outside of versus modes, so, you do not need them if they are not the characters above. The reason why the characters above need them are for their transformations, otherwise, the textures get lost in the sea of the abyss when you transform or switch (PT). Also, for ZSS, you may need to use a CSS code with her to get her to work better (as her textures need to be loaded from the CSS if you are using v 1.1).
8. If your textures did not work, make sure your directory is set up accordingly or you didn't mess up on the color choice, check EVERY color if you really don't know which one you put it on. The codes DO work, you're just doing something wrong.
9. Otherwise, you have done it! Congratulations! You have successfully put textures on your Wii! These textures are in no way permanent, you have to load the codes each time you want access to them and NOBODY WILL SEE THEM ONLINE UNLESS THEY HAVE THE SAME CODES ON AS YOU AND THE SAME TEXTURES AS YOU! Also, Gecko OS has a 256 line limit (due to the Wii's RAM limit) so please try not to add anymore codes than that after the texture codes have been applied. Textures also do not show up in replays if you watch them without the codes on (in other words, the replays do not store texture data). However, Snapshots DO save the textures even without the codes on (this is obvious) so you can show off to your friends that you can do texture hacking now!
And no, this does not work for custom music.
Can't seem to follow when I mention where the files go? Or, you can't figure out HOW to make the .gct? Watch this awesome video guide below by illinialex24!

Stage Texture Guide
Steps 1-4 from the character texture guide still apply so skipping to Step 5.
5. Make the following directory: private>wii>app>RSBE>pf>stage>melee
6. Your texture needs to be named like this: STG[insert name here].pcs
7. Load up Brawl through Gecko OS and you should be good to go. If you are having any problems, ask questions in this thread.

Music
*Warning: Androu1's tool is no longer available for download.
What you need:
Music List
Androu1's Tool
Goldwave or any other form of music editing software (Audacity works as well as a few others, this guide will just be covering how to use Goldwave as that is what I use, refer to
Slashy's Guide for how to use Audacity)
SD Card
Songs
This can only be done with NTSC-U and NTSC-J right now. This code also obviously works for textures as well still.
Step 1: Now, you are going to take the above code and make a .gct of it with Code Manager. The code is FAIRLY new so don't be surprised if it is buggy. The kinks (hopefully) will get worked out in the end.
Step 2: Grab some songs, we are gonna open Goldwave or whatever software you use to edit music. When you first open Goldwave, go to File... Open and pick one of the songs. Open it and you will notice it is in stereo. If you want to do stereo, it's a few more steps (of which I do not cover) so for now, we're going with Mono. The file needs to be a .wav so go to File... Save As and change the format to a .wav using the drop down menu. Then there should be a second drop down menu that allows you to change exactly if it is stereo or mono. You want to choose the one that says 16 bit PCM Mono. Choose that and it will ask you to open up the new file in Goldwave, click Yes.
Step 3: This next part is easy. In the top right should be two Hz buttons, choose the one that says when you hover over it "resample Hz", click it and set it to 32000 Hz (it cannot be 41000 Hz or anything else).
Step 4: To the left of that are some volume buttons, look for "Maximize Volume". Now I am not going to tell you to raise the volume super high. It is just that songs drastically change in soound when they are changed to mono, plus, you need the music to be decently louder than the SFX. My recommended value is 3.53 or 150%, feel free to modify it how you want as long as you can hear it and it works out for you.
Step 5: Next is making the song loop well. There should be two bars on the left and right side you can use to cut out parts of the song, drag one or the other out (depending on what you want to cut out) and freely clip where you want the song to begin and where you want it to end. Once you've done that, you can finally save the song (make sure it will loop properly!!) as only one word, it cannot be two, so you can type something like COOL and it's fine, as long as you know which song it is (assuming you do more than one). I like it summarize what the song is with one word, like if it's a Pokemon Battle song I name it to Battle or something. It is completely up to you. Remember to save the song in the SAME folder as Androu1's tool folder.
Step 6: Now, there's two files we need to put into the system or system32 folder in Windows. They are supposed to go in as follows (and the file names right next to where they need to go):
dsptool.dll (you need to put this in your system32 folder for an x86 system, if you have a 64bit OS, put it in the appropriate system folder)
dsptoolD.dll (same as above)
Step 7: Now open up the Start.bat file in Androu1's tool folder. It will prompt you to pick one of the following options:
A is Mono
B is Stereo
C is Mono Victory Theme
D is Stereo Victory Theme
Type in the corresponding letter of the one you need to do. Since our file is Mono, you will type A.
Step 8: The next step requires you to type in the name of the song. This is why it needs to be one word, as Androu1's tool doesn't appear to recognize two words with a space, so type the name of the song in and it will then tell you to press enter when you are done editing the .wav, so do so and an edit.txt will show up. It usually pops up and if it does, close it out and DO NOT trash it from the folder. From there it should ask you about looping the song.
Step 9: All songs always start off at 0, so type 0. The second part is asking for the end, now, there should be a file in Androu1's tool folder called "length.txt" that should have showed up. Open it up and type the length part of the text file in (it should be clearly labeled and in samples form). If the length.txt does not show up, you can always reopen Goldwave and look at the Set looping button (two vertical lines and a yellow question mark), it will give you the end length of your edited song in samples (make sure it is in samples) type that in and hit enter.
Step 10: The program will then prompt you to name the final .brstm. This is where you choose what song you want to replace and where you refer to the downloaded music list above, it MUST be a number from that list like A01 for example, so it would be A01.brstm. Hit enter and keep doing so until the program closes out.
Step 11: The .brstm should now be in the Edited Songs folder. The next step is putting it into the SD Card, so, open your pf folder and create a folder called "sound". Then inside that folder create a folder called "strm". Now you can stick the A01.brstm in the strm folder and it will replace the song number you gave the song name.
Your folder in the end should look something like this: X:\private\Wii\App\RSBE\pf\sound\strm\(Music Number).brstm
Step 12: Boot the Homebrew Channel, boot Gecko OS, click "Launch Game" and test the song out. If it works, sucess! If you have looping problems, you might want to go back and properly fix that. If you run into any bugs (glitchy) that could be caused by the code, please report it and someone will tell Phantom Wings about it.
How to do Stereo:
Quote:
Same process as mono until the point where you save the mp3 to wav, make it 16 Bit STEREO wave instead of mono. Resample it to 32000HZ and increase volume, just like you would normally do. put it in the same folder as the tool.
but don't open the start.exe program just yet. this step must be done first. your wav has two channels (left and right) and you have to seperate left and right into individual files. If your song's wav name was COOL, you'd have to split the channels into different files, so in the end you would have COOLL.wav and COOLR.wav
i will explain how with a edited version of the kitty corp guide
Open up your edited wav. in goldwave, press Ctrl+A to select the whole thing, then press Ctrl+Shift+L to select only the left (green) channel. Press Ctrl+C to copy it. Make a new file and press Ctrl+V to paste your left channel into it. Save and close this, and do this the same for the right channel. save both and put it into the same folder as tool. now you have two new wavs, add the letter L and R to the end of the name, to the left and right channels respectively. just refer to my COOL.wav example above.
now you can launch start.bat, and hit B instead for stereo. the rest is the same.

About Yoshi's Island (Brawl) Obstacle Course: When you replace E06 you must also replace E07 and cut the song at its half point. What's the reason? Well, if you just replace E06, when it changes to Winter Obstacle Course will still play! Then when it changes back to Spring or Summer, it goes back to the song you replaced E06 with. Why cut it in half? Because the season will change and if you don't, then the song will just start over again when Winter comes... and that won't sound pretty. Or you could also just change E07 to a different song and have 2 songs on YI (Brawl) Obstacle Course.
The other solution for this is to use Phantom Wing's My Music Swap code to switch Obstacle Course with a song you haven't changed yet and then replace that song accordingly on YI (Brawl) and than you won't have to deal with E07 at all.
Special Thanks: Phantom Wings, Igglyboo, Nuke (for his awesome homebrew application Gecko OS making this all possible!), and Link for his awesome code manager and WiiRD application that allows users to hack the Wii and make awesome codes like these!
