BATTLE AT THE BORDER 3
November 7th, 2009

About Battle at the Border

The first year, Caveman and Rob$ swept up everything. Last year, Pozerwolf and RoyR ventured down for the challenge and Pozerwolf left with heavy pockets. Now, who will emerge victorious with the steaks raised higher than ever for the RGV.

This is the largest and best run annual tournament the RGV has to offer. Last year there were over 50 Brawlers and we hope to shatter that this year. With a guaranteed pot bonus announced for BRAWL and SF4 there is more hype than ever for BATB. Don't john about anything and just make out here! TEXAS THIS MEANS YOU! (other states welcome also :-* )

Yeah my friend was rendering last night. It takes quite a while to get it all sorted out because we have quite a few matches recorded and youtube is a bizzzich. They will be up before the end of the week though. At Omnicon were going to have two capture cards so we don't have this time problem. See you there ;b

Last year I had to pay for a day pass also, but this year I don't mind paying for all three days. It seems really fun. Also, last year they had problems with people sneaking in and hanging out for the day. So this year I believe there will be security on hand to escort you out, but I don't foresee any problems...hopefully ^__^

are you going to cosplay also mikey? XD

The reason for having to pay for whole day instead of only the tournament is actually reasonable. What if people were going to this convention "only for cosplay" or "only for the theater" etc...why should they have to pay for a whole day if they are only there to participate for one event? It has to be the same for everyone. Either way, the tourney is going down.

I know last year there was a considerable amount of people that showed up and it was overall a dope tourney. I cannot guarantee the same for this year, but I do expect more people in general, which may mean...scrub city?

Rei way right in the prices, they are as follows: 3 day pass - $35, 2 day pas - $30, 1 day pass - $25. That might seem steep, but there is no way around it. No set up consolation or anything. I feel like it is well worth it. There is a lot of stuff to do all the time so its a lot of fun.

Vorgy, sorry, but I am more than positive that we cannot hold out for you this time :[ Melee will start at one and I expect a smaller turn out for that than Brawl, so I don't think I can hold it. You are more than welcome to come hang out all weekend there if you buy the passes and we can friendly all day /look at gay cosplayer mans and womans.

As far as entry goes it will be $5 for singles and $5 for teams. If there is absolutely no turn out, or a really weak one, we will only charge $1. Of course, 100% payout. I can't say it will be worth your while but it will be a tourney and a good time for anyone who purchases the pass and participates.

AND FOR THE VENUE...
no it is not where battle at the border was at last year. That is Cyber Comics, and they are not hosting tournaments any longer. This is at the ECHO Hotel in Edinburg. The date and time are all posted up in the front page of this thread.

AND FOR META KNIGHT...
We will start issuing a ban for every tournament after this. I to, felt that this is long over due and necessary. OMNICON WILL HAVE META KNIGHT but if you all agree to gentelmens ban, that's great also. It is such short notice and there might be randoms playing MK so leave them be. There is nothing quite like spiking a noob out of a shuttle loop. Our next tournament will probably be in August if not the last weekend in July. We will issue the ban there.

UNTIL THEN XTRA HOMO ETC

ay, shlike. We're going to try running doubles before singles to see if we can give you and Vorgy a little slack. We'd probably have to put you two against each other first round though and I can't guarantee anything. Tell all the scrubs you know to play doubles to make that last longer. XD

Let me know when full results are up.

:D

Also, I think you guys should fix the payout to have 2nd and 3rd get a little more!

70:20:10 leaves 2nd and 3rd with little more than they paid in or even less, when it takes a lot of effort to get those places too.

I usually do mine around 60:25:15 ...it gets kind of discouraging to play all the way until 2nd for 1st to get 3 and a half more pot prize than you.

:(

And I don't say this for myself, because I am sincerely surprised I have made top 3 in the last two tournies, and I do the same for my tournies in Brownsville as well.

That aside, the tourney was epic.

Keep running those awesome tournies. :D

<3 much homo intended

*** that vorgy, its not fair for 1st to come from losers to win 6 games and have to lose some winnings. 70 20 has always been accepted, if not go 70 30 n 4get 3rd. 2nd place loses money to give 3rd place cash. if its a pot more than 150, than 4th place goes on gettin 5 percent 1 st gets 65 2nd 20 3rd 10

You just say that because you're winning lol. Well if everyone thinks that's fair it should stay that way then.

I leave it to the masses to decide.

This is what Houston pays out (why I think 70 to first is too much, because 2nd and 3rd get hardly anything)

Houston payout:

The PAYOUT for 1vs1
1st=60%
2nd=30%
3rd=10%

if over 100 players

1st=55%
2nd=25%
3rd=10%
4th=5%
5th=2.5%

Now if you say we shouldn't be doing everything like Houston does, then I remind you that 1- Houston has been hosting way more successful events than we have and for way longer, and 2- they aren't the only ones doing this payout either.

60% is way more than enough for 1st. I'd give 55% on any occasion but I usually do 60% or more since I usually include entry fee into the pot, so I end up totalling over 100% for payout anyway.

And I do that mostly to ensure that 2nd and 3rd get something reasonable.
