Custom Music Titles using codes...

Okay... You guys know how you can't get custom music titles for your converted songs streaming via SD card right?

That is unless you go and make a modified ISO...

Well, since REDSOXROX did a custom item description code... I figured why shouldn't it work for music titles?

Well... it kinda does and doesn't...

In the "My Music" screen, the modified titles don't show up... (I don't think it shows up in the sound test either)

However, it DOES show up at the start of the match...

That should do until the SD loader code makes it so that you can upload the modified music title files of the method shown in the Kitty Corp Forums...

I've only done the song titles for Battlefield, Final Destination, Delfino Plaza, and Luigi's Mansion so far... But I plan on doing little by little each day...

Anyway here's how it works...

I tried to put final destination's track as "Yoshi's Island final Boss" but it only came out as "Yoshi's Island Fi" as many characters as the original song name. I added an extra line to acommodate for the longer song name. If this is as far as we get with editing song names (likely not?) I'm sure we can get by by using ZAC's music swap or the button music swap to swap tracks for a longer song title on a stage. no biggie right?

Yeah, unless you can figure out how to get long song titles working, I can't use this.
On the other hand, if you DO get that working, I will update my tool to write a codelist that contains all of the proper codes for exported songs :p

info2 folder -> info_en.pac (shows title prior to match in VS mode)

menu2 folder -> mu_menumain_en.pac or something like that (shows in My Music and Sound Test).

I know there's some other files since Training Mode seems to have its own info file, and other 1P modes might as well.

I guess if this works 100% I'll use this over burning my DVDs everytime rofl. *too cheap to buy USB HDD xD*

Would it be useless to make a code to edit the title of the SSE songs?

That or using a code for using songs on any stage like the Music Modifier, or Wifi Music Modifier using a button activator...

So far, Kitty Corp said that you can only edit music titles while it's just as long as the original...

Jose_Gallardo also said that there could probably be a code that could search the starting and end addresses of the titles that Phantom used...

So basically, this is just a temporary fix, yes?

I'm working on more now, okay? I'm going down the list of stages through the "My Music" Menu...

You'll replace another song's name if you go further and modify the codetype...

For example, if you take this:

Lmao, use an HDD to test it before when your done burning a final one. Thats what I do...

Phantom just released another version of his code... and that allows you to modify those music titles...

However, I'll still be working on my little project...

I'd like to think of it as giving people options ;)

Phantom's code now loads the info.pac or whatever that allows you to modify the titles in the My Music screen... however, it is still prone to the limitaton of my codes as well, of having the same characters or less of the music title you are replacing...

On the other hand, I have no idea how to edit that file (nor do I even have it at the moment), so until anyone writes up a guide on how to do it, I'll still be using your codes.

It's basically the exact same thing my code does... Just using a hex editor or code RAM write to change the text :)


7. Changing Music Titles (#titles) (Phantom's code allows this method... but I also made codes which are in progress for music titles just using codes)
So you've added a bunch of your own music to the game, but you want it to feel more authentic? Look no further! In this section, you'll learn how to change the names of the songs in the game and the My Music menu.

Download and extract the tool provided in #tools. Open the enclosed readme and follow the instructions. The pac files are in Data>menu2 and Data>info2, respectively. Make sure you have NTCompress!

When you have the pac open in your hex editor (I'll use HxD as an example, because that's what I use), use Ctrl+F and search for the first song title you want to change. Make sure you have the Datatype set to Text-string. If you get a "Not found" message," change the direction of the search. Search for the song title exactly as it appears in Brawl. Note that titles with the word "Pokémon" in them have the accent on the e, so you can either include this symbol when you search or just leave it out of your search terms.

When you've found the title, you need to change it. Write out the title you want to use in Notepad, then copy and paste it over the title in your hex editor. But be careful!

You can't change the size of the original file. That means that the number of characters in your new title must exactly match the number of characters in the original title. Consider, for example, changing "Final Destination" to "One-Winged Angel."

The original title has 17 characters. The new one has 16. If you just copy and paste the new title over the original, you'll shorten the file by one character. To fix this, just add a space at the end of the new title, bringing it to 17 characters.

Another situation would be one in which the new title is longer than the original. Consider replacing "Battlefield" with "One-Winged Angel."

Eleven characters vs. sixteen. There are two ways around this. One way is to choose your replacements such that the original title is long enough to accommodate the new one, though that might get more difficult as you add more and more songs. The second way is to abbreviate or be creative with the new title to make it fit. In our example, you could just title it "OWA," though I don't really like that. For this case, I would call it "Sephiroth" (9 characters, so you'd have to add two spaces at the end), since it's his theme.

When you're done, save and close the file and work on the other one. Once you've finished with both, continue following the instructions in the readme.

If you've done everything correctly, you will have a fully customized music selection. Enjoy your game!

Do I need to do that if I'm adding the word Pokémon to a title, or will it work if I put an é in the letter space?

Simply putting an é in the hex editor on the front page is confirmed to not work. Does putting that é make it work? (I'm asking since I doubt it... but you never know)

Why don't you try using an ASM insert on a "read" breakpoint of the song address, and combining it with an engine to change the song name? That might allow you to bypass the name length limit, as you'd be reading the song name from another region of memory space.

Ok, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to use PW's code to load the necessary files for custom music titles, but they're not showing up. I already decrypted both info_en.pac and mu_menumain_en.pac, edited them, and encrypted them again. I then made folders for both (private\wii\app\RSBE\pf\info2 and menu2, respectively) as shown on the Brawl ISO, and placed the files there. Still, they're not being read.

What am I doing wrong?

Edit: Durhur, it's just info.pac, isn't it?

Edit 2: Yeah, I'm getting a freeze right after the loading screen. I'm using the latest file replacement code. Isn't that supposed to fix the freeze?

Hmm, strange. My files are bigger after compression. I took care to follow all the steps and such, including making sure the titles are the same length.

How do I go about rebuilding the offset table?

Thats not the problem really.
If you song titles are the same length, you don't need to mess with the offset table.

Think of it this way.

Its easier to compress certain things better than others. For example "blahblahblahblahblahblahblah....."is very easy to compress.

As a result, when you modify song titles, there is a chance that for some reason or another, the tool is unable to compress the file back to its normal size. Thats why I had to remove all the text that appears after the song titles and replaced it with something more compressible.

This is awesome, man! Very much so! Now my brawls can be more custom than they are already! ;D

However, I thought I should let you know that it appears the code that changes the Team Galactic battle theme doesn't work, either.
