Ok, so, as many of you know, I'm making a tutorial for the stage select screen. But I don't want it to just be a topic about the code. I want someone to get a fully functional custom SSS, including custom stages, into the game using only the tutorial. With that said, can we get fully custom stages onto our fully custom SSS? Specifically, i want to see if we can get the Midwest East Circuit custom stages to bypass the no custom stages code by placing them in 3 of the 9 custom stage slots allotted by PW's stage roster expansion system.

One problem: They're tiny bin files. Not fully fledged pac files. Not even openable with Brawlbox or Brawlscape :(. So the first order of business is to see if we can somehow convert them, or otherwise get Stage Builder (or Stage Studio :p) custom stages onto the SSS. And yes, you read that right, first order of business. I will be using this thread for other stuff (specifically as a hub for testers). So, if it doesnt work out, please don't lock this, k? Either way, i'll be adding and moving stuff around on this thread.

I'm fully aware that this could be impossible. I know that the stages are based on STGEDIT_0.pac, STGEDIT_1.pac, and STGEDIT2.pac (Equity uses _0, and Libra and Abyss use _1). Might it be possible to tie the bins to the pacs somehow?

Also, PW helped me edit the custom stage module file, so if we get a pac out of a custom stage, we can get that custom stage playable through the SSS codes. I'm just stumped on how to get that pac file in the first place, but i bet that if it's possible, it's a simple file import into the pacs.
See, I'm not just asking for help, i'm doing stuff too!

In other news, im just about done the SSS tutorial, but i want confirmation on this first. After this, I'll have testers helping me. Currently, Sage and Alphatron have done some work, thanks guys!

I'm not sure. I was told that the bin files that were the custom stages we make in game, merelly call forth the models using the positions we assign.

Wouldn't we need to make the custom stage from scratch in order to do this? I suppose you can take the models from STGEDIT and assign them positions via brawlbox.

But I can't test it. No stable computer acess.

only thing i can think of is button activator or random button modifier...but it'll only load the custom stage that was last played. can you use the random stage modifier and put only custom stages then pick random..will it load a custom stage? then use the button activator to get to it again..?

Maybe the code could work like this:

When you select STGEDIT_#, check the SD Card for any stages that use that pac, and load that stage. Of course, this'll only work if you have 3 stages(for each of the different STGEDIT pacs) on your SD card, and might require a code that loads STGEDIT_# instead of STGCustom(like with PW's code) from the SSS.

Take the models from the custom stage and make the stage yourself in brawlbox. Decide positions and such. Try replacing Wifi Waiting Room with custom stage platforms and see if it works.

MK, can you just post what you have so far? It'll help a lot of people. Including me. :) We just need a guide; one that isn't scattered over 20 freakin pages. Lol.

meh...i just want to know about this first. I want the guide to be a finished product when i release it, and by finished i mean i dont have to edit anything larger than a grammatical error...because i know that if i release it unfinished, itll never get finished.

I was thinking in doing a noob proof guide of Dan´s and PW code :p. But since you already started the project, then we better wait :)

As for the Custom Stages... I guess i cant be of any help :(

Bumping since I'm a bit peeved at how no one posted here once the tutorial was put up.

I also intend to go use this myself since I don't know how to use codes to make an SSS nor do I know a thing about setting up a custom random code for stages(making the 9+ selectable via random).

I have a question. When you add Phantom's custom stages code, the 2B's that are used for blanks in the screen get filled up with the icon used for Custom 1. So how would I add blanks? I've tried putting numbers higher than 33 (the WW value for Custom 8), but I just get random icons that map to other stages.

And also, whenever I try to use a random stage, I only get a black empty space with the characters falling.

Well, here's my code. The parts with '35' in the melee selection screen are the parts where a blank was supposed to be.

As for random stages loading nothing but a black empty space, I'm not sure what's going on there myself.

Fix'd
Your original code had an index value of 35, but the YYZZ section didnt have anything under spot 35, so the game got confused. adding in that last line and increaseing the byte count to 6A means that 35 now is blank.

sc_selmap doesnt have any icons other than those listed

in your code, the byte counts were off
you had the MM section copied twice, and incorrectly filled in (i think you may have copied the code from the wrong source :/)

but other than that, it was good
and now its fixed

ive looked into it, but im simply not well enough versed in brawlbox to say if its possible

My computer can't read .docx files, I even tried changing it to .doc and nothing. What is it anyway?

Well I got the file to work, and all the instructions are there. The only issue is, all the code is not present, it just has this for example:

When you create a custom SSS, the stages order themselves in rows automatically. The number of stages per row for a given total number of stages is shown below. It holds true for both screens of the SSS.

Note that I did not test each and every one of these. I tested about 20 and found a pattern to fill in the rest of them. In most cases, they should be correct.
. . . I did not test above 34 stages (save for a 40-icon test that resulted in a freeze), so I do not know how many more stages can fit before the SSS will not work
. . . Likewise, I do not know how low below 10 stages one can go before a freeze, but I wouldn't be surprised if a single-icon screen works

Beginner

This code has the ZZ section already filled in. This provides the default stage, icon, and random stage select position for all stages (except 75m, which is replaced by the Wifi Waiting Room when selecting random). All you need to know to directly edit the code is to fill in WW and MM with the index values below, and correspond the byte counts to the number of stages on each screen. Unlike v1.1 of the Custom SSS code, the 'menu' icon is already taken care of, so you don’t need to add it at the end of the 'Melee' screen any more.
. . . Remember, if you plan on adding an SSS with WWR enabled to a Plussery codeset, remove the 'Rumble Falls is now Waiting Room' code in the gct

Any SSS that contains the exact ZZ section in the Beginner code can be filled in with the index values shown above. Changing the ZZ section around can easily mess up the Random Stage Select if you don't know what you're doing.
. . . If you're wondering why the blank icon can't be the simple 00, it's because the blank would then take Battlefield's spot on the Random Stage Select

FYI, for anyone running Brawl+ using the snapshot method, there is juuust enough room in the original GCT to add this code there. So you don't have to rebuild the .bin if you don't feel like it.

It's totally feasible to convert custom stages into real ones, but it's a total pain. Mewtwo 2000 and I can both do it, at least. It's a fairly simple process.
