LOCATION

All arcade games will be on free play all weekend and you can play as much as you want with your venue fee paid!

DATE

May 28-30, 2010

REGISTRATION
Registration for getting into the venue and for the individual tournaments is currently online at PowerUp via shopping cart and PayPal.

SSFIV is CAPPED AT 128 ENTRANTS. Arcade Legends VENUE CAP IS 140 PEOPLE PER DAY. Due to lack of pre-registration we want to be clear about exactly how many people Arcade Legends can hold without breaking fire code and being too cramped to breathe. There will be no excuses or exceptions for anyone who shows up to register and is turned away because we have reached capacity. If you want to be on the safe side, pre-register NOW.

Make sure you fill out all the forms for your bracket name and for any team tournaments you're entering! Pre-registration in this thread will NOT count and the eventual pre-reg listings will reflect this. Walk-ups will be welcome until further notice.

SSBB
[COLLAPSE=Webster's Rules]
During Pools (this may apply to SSBM or ANY fighting game that has the "pool" feature):

Pools work like this:

You play vs. a selected (seeded) handfull of players in round robin. Whoever (could be more than one person, depending on how many advance outa pools) has the best record, advances to the double elimination bracket.

Less than 36 people play in pools = we'll have a 24 man bracket

More than 36 people play in pools = we'll have a 32 man bracket

During the Double Elimination bracket:

Format and Settings:
Double Elimination
3 Stocks, 8 minutes time
Damage Ratio 1.0
Best 2/3 Games
All Finals Best 3/5 Matches
Items set to "Off" and "None"

Starter Stage List:

*NOTE: IT IS UP TO YOU GUYS TO REMEMBER THE STAGE LIST. IT WILL MAKES THINGS RUN A LOT MORE SMOOTHER. I WILL HAVE A COPY OF THE STAGE LIST AVAILABLE IF NEEDED.

Neutral:

Final Destination
Battlefield
Yoshi's Story
Smashville
Lylat

Counter Stage List:

Delfino Plaza
Battleship Halberd
Castle Siege
Brinstar
Pokemon Stadium 1 (Melee Version)
Frigate Orpheon
Rainbow Cruise

Any stage not mentioned above is banned!

For SSBB Doubles:

- Stock is set at 3 (and isn't allowed to use cool stages like Mute City, like Melee can* )

For both SSBB and SSBM Doubles:

-Friendly Fire will be on in teams and general rules apply (don't forget the SSBM stage specifics)

[COLLAPSE=Additional Rules]
Set format:
1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match

PLEASE NOTE:
* Double blind character selection may be called for the first match if needed. A T.O will come and keep track of what characters are used by players.

2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure. (Who starts will be decided by playing SHANKING FIST aka RPS). Then each player will alternate striking a stage until there is 1 left. That stage is played first round. THERE IS NO RANDOM UNLESS AGREED UPON.
3. Each player may announce one stage to be banned for counter pick of the set.
4. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2.
5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List.
6. The winner of the previous match chooses their character.
7. The loser of the previous match chooses their character.
8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches.

- Stalling is Banned!
- If you use any controller styles that use the wiimote you will be responsible for removing the batteries inbetween your matches. Failure to do so can result in a DQ.
- In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by playing SHAKING FIST.
- No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
- If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.
- Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.
- If a game ends with Bowser's Suicide Claw or Ganon's Arial Choke Slam the player who performed the move wins!!!
- You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.
- Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.

- Stalling/Chain Grabbing (applies to both Melee and Brawl): The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs must end quickly after 200% past when the chain grab started (for example: if the CG started at 43%, you must end the CG...in some fashion... @ 243%). Also, deliberately avoiding any and all combat is stalling, where as jumping on and off the ledge doing an aerial at your opponent is simply spacing.

So with this said...

- Marth's hold release infinite vs. Lucus/Ness is BANNED
- Wario's precentage specific CG is allowed
- DeDeDe walk CG vs DK is BANNED
- You are ONLY allowed 50 planks (catch edge. release edge. repeat) a game (this doesn't apply in Brawl+).

I want the maximum number of stages playable. I'd also want the timer shortened, but I thought that particular philosophy of mine would come up against resistance, so I left it alone XD

It's hard not to copy/paste Brawl's ruleset sometimes, lol. But, in my opinion I want players to have the most options for counterpick and starter stages. Just call me Mr. Super Liberal Stage List Man.

I hope I see the God Kais at PowerUp 2010, and Springfield too. Hopefully many more will be interested as we approach the event date.

Thanks much for the very kind words, Devildigimon! Your Brawl setup would be appreciated, just in case we need it. Also, I plan on having an area for side tourneys and for casuals. So chances are good that you will have time and space to run whatever you like. So Naruto Revolution 3 is a go in that sense : )

It would be amazing to have some WI players down for PowerUp 2010! I hope to see you there. I'll also make a concentrated effort to make it up to WI at least once next year for something that you run!

Big update to the OP. Added SSBM, Brawl and Melee Crew Battles, and Naruto Revolution 3, all being run by Devildigimon! Big thanks to him and all the help he is willing to give.

Also, the tentative schedule for the weekend has been updated to more accurately reflect the course of the event.

@Clowsui: Webster does believe in thatlist, heh. But he's a great TO, so he can pick whatever he likes.

I can't wait for this one, I should be in for BB and Tekken as well.

Good to see some responses! Thanks for the support : )

We're planning to have quite a few Brawl setups to accommodate a large number of players, so hopefully we'll see a good turnout from the Smash community. Don't forget that Melee is also being run!

Initial prizes have been announced, and remaining prizes will go to the games whose pre-registration numbers are largest.

Oh, and for those who would like to pre-register for teams tournaments, please take note that only ONE PERSON HAS TO SIGN UP AN ENTIRE TEAM AND PAY FOR THAT TEAM. So please make sure to get the money from your teammates before you register, or be sure that they will pay you back. Having one person sign up the whole team makes it easier for us to organize the teams onto the brackets. There are plenty of reminders of this on the PowerUp site/products page.

Thanks!

Thinking about going. If Today runs out of room for housing, are there any other housing possibilities?

EDIT: I'll definitely keep my eye on this one.

I'm currently working on getting a local hotel to give us a discount rate on a block of rooms. Updates on that to come in the next few weeks. Hopefully sooner!

But yes, if anyone can provide free housing to players, that is always a great thing : )

The cutoff for the special PowerUp 2010 rate at the Holiday Inn Express: Fairfield is coming up fast. APRIL 28th! If you need a hotel for your trip you should hop onto the deal fast!

I also want to encourage players to pre-register in person at Arcade Legends with Jesse, or better yet, online at www.powerupfighters.com

Pre-registering makes it easier for us to provide you with a great tournament experience!

The PU2010 Food Menu has also been added. Remember that there will be NO outside food or drink allowed in the venue. Also, the PU2010 Event Schedule has been added, with cutoff times for game registration and start up times for every game at the tournament.

@SoulPech: SSBB doubles and singles are on Saturday, and SSBM doubles and singles are Sunday. SSBB Crew Battles (basically team vs team) are on Friday.

Glad to see the interest! I hope Smash has a good turnout. Remember, if people pre-reg now the chances are better that you'll get bonus money added onto the normal split. Also, if a lot of players show up for Smash without pre-registering that would still be grounds for bonus money getting passed out.
