General Rules:

- When it's your turn to play, you will be called ~3 times and we will wait for you for about 5 minutes. If you are not present in this time or we do not hear from you as to where you are or what you're doing, we will attempt to run another match before yours. However, you risk being disqualified if there are no other matches in that round to be played.

- if your behavior is disruptive during the tournament or if you do anything obviously illegal, you will be escorted out. Money matches are fine as long as you aren't advertising them all over the place.

- this is a bring your own controller (BYOC) event (no turbo or modded controllers allowed). We have no obligation to loan controllers, so come prepared. Neither FIU nor the tournament staff is responsible for any of your belongings (this does not mean the staff will not try to keep an eye on things for you nor that they won't help you try and find them, we are simply under no obligation to do so) if they are damaged or lost.

- At the time of registration, every attendee will be required to show ID (with birthdate). A consent form must be completed by a parent or guardian, and must be submitted the day of the tournament for every attendee under the age of 16. The form is available here: http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/4114/minorconsentform.jpg . Extra forms will also be available at the time of registration.

Other Information:

- Parking passes for non-students will be available at $1 for the entire day per car. Please call (305) 348-2189 when arriving at the campus for instructions on where to park and to purchase your parking pass.

- the Game Room’s pool tables are available at regular student price for $5/hour.

- Wendy's, Subway, Little Caesar's, Publix, and a Chinese Buffet are located across the street from the FIU main entrance on 107th Ave. Burger King and Taco Bell can be found heading out of the 107th exit and making a right towards 8th ST on your right side.

Domino's Pizza 305-553-5233
Papa John's Pizza 305-220-7500
Pizza Hut 305-220-9808

Please let me know if you will attend the event, even if uncertain. I need to keep track of the number of potential attendees.

I said I want to do a Melee tournament and they told me Melee is dead. I said said Melee's ballin' and they said if Melee's alive they'll make it a monthly thing. So if you wanna make it a monthly event, y'all gotta show that Melee's alive! GET HYPE!!!

Ruuku I know this is your tournament, but maybe you should reconsider a small price drop, so you can expect a bigger turnout from the locals. I might show, though it's still uncertain and I'm trying to keep my funds accessible on more important things.

Count me in. I'm 90% sure I can go. I haven't been in the tournament scene in years.

Does anyone know if Maverick or FlowinWater still play? I smashed in tournaments with those guys since 2003. Let me know if any of the old FL veterans are still around.

I agree with spider sense. Im not digging a seven dollar door fee and 13 singles entree fee. Plus i don't know you as a tournament organizer just yet. So far the turn out looks small as well atm. Regardless i wish you the best of luck running this. South florida show your support!

the fees have been established for the FIU tournies for a long time (i've ran them myself, but for brawl) (heck technically this is not allowed cuz of dumb florida gambling laws on state property, but the staff don't care). I'm friends with Ruuku for a long time (he's worked with gaming communities himself in the past) and we've been working hard with the school staff (the school game room) on trying to run tournies in south miami. So you can trust him on running a proper tourney. But i'll let him know if he's able to talk to the staff in lowering the fees

Turnouts in the past at the school have been pretty good (especially the turnouts were majority leaning towards on the South Miami area and FIU itself). and it's also really hard to throw a tourney at the school cuz of the issues mentioned so it's one of those once in a blue moon things, other universities in FL hardly get to throw a real tourney on the campus grounds

Past attendence:
Melee: April. 2006, about 40 ppl. Nov. 2007 about 40-50
Brawl: Aug 2008, 64 ppl. Jan 2009, 42 ppl

I see eddie. I personaly know how hard it is to run school tourneys . I also know at times the school tells whoever is host to have a person pay certain amount(door fee) to even be there. Its all good but im not sure but i think the community has got alot smaller since back then at least for melee. I would expect brawl to have a really high turnout but melee is so up there. I wonder if any of the guys on campus would enter lol.

For the next tournament I can definitely try to fight for 2 more bucks off of the entry fee. But money can't be changed for this tournament since flyers already have been made.

I literally haven't seen Maverick in years but I heard from common friends that he still plays.

I have attended a number of failed tournaments in the past both from new and experienced tournament hosts. So I can understand why not knowing me would make it tough to come to my tournaments. But I do appreciate the amount of support that you are showing.

i plan to be here
Looking forward to seeing you again, James.

Man, you don't even know how tough FIU's officials are. I'm trying my best to leave them with a perfect tournament formula before I graduate, so that they can keep doing good tournaments on their own.

Will any brawl locals be attending the event? And if possible (assuming you keep the prices the same and no changes can be made) can you extend the pot size to 4th place? lol Sorry Ruuku I keep asking for alot . =/

ruuku has always been a good host, so this should be a fun tourney.

lately SFL has been really complicated in terms of entering, it's just not like old times when if you attended a tournament, you were expected to enter. that ain't a smashfest.

It's all good, man. I dunno if Brawl locals will enter but there's a number of Melee locals that will enter. I'll see tomorrow if the game room official don't mind a pot change. But the change may depend of the number of people attending.

@ Meta - I think the only old school smashers that are still around is Logikz, Doodah, (Very rarely) Synikal, Shinn Chaos came around July to smash, Tipman was also down here for a bit last spring and I think he's coming back to visit in Feb. Chops left for NY and won't be coming back, Noucles still sorta plays when he feels like it. Oh and 1-up still wants to play melee but doesn't have anybody to play lol. MVB Mike comes by Zero Ping to play WoW, and he works as an active cop, so I guess he doesn't want to invest all his free time into smash. Flowin was down here last year around May I think...the marines gave him a bit of time off.

So yeah, a lot of SFL smashers have been replaced with newer faces, but smaller numbers. The only notable good smashers are Shiz and Linguini.

what about QDVS and Sighrax i know that XIF and Green Mario moved away. Xif went to georgia i think? i had seen him play i never actually played him though. and yeah i had seen the thread Flowin' made about him coming down or w/e. I'm just glad to be back in the melee scene again and hope to play some good *** people cuz for a while it looked like the melee scene fell off cuz even in genesis the brawl attendance list was bigger than the melee one and most of the pro melee players were in it.

Queen still plays, I don't know how active he really is. But he has vids of him vs Rockcrock and Guini that are fairly recent. Xif and Kyle have converted to 2d fighters along with Sighrax, so they occasionally dabble in melee every now and then.
