BOTM II [1] - Wave? vs. UltiMario!

Battle Of The Week


Here's how it works. At the beginning of each week (for several "sessions") members of the PokeCenter will nominate up to three other members who they want to be contestants in BOTW.
- A member cannot vote for themselves.
- Nominating only one or two members is allowed.
- After a cut time, the members with the top 4 or 5 nominations will be listed and polled on. The winner of that first poll will be the first battler.
- The remaining 5 members will then be polled on again to determine the second battler.
- Members of a previous BOTW cannot be voted for a consecutive BOTW position.
- Those two opponents will then discuss (in-thread) the time for their match.
- On match-day / time, everyone can pile into the room and watch the battle unfold!
- Battlelogs will be saved by either player participating in the match, and will be added here. Records will also be kept here. A summary provided by a spectator of the match will also be added.

Zook vs. Terywj [OU]

Results: Zook (2-0)
Summary: The BOTW series opener blasted off with an OU match between Terywj and Zook, good friends since 2008. Tery is known for being an exclusive UU player, so watching him play Zook in an OU match was just what the community needed to start of the BOTW. Both players decided to lead with non-OU Pokemon: Zook with his Armaldo and Tery with his Ambipom. Mindgamed aside, Zook was able to put Stealth Rock on the field after Tery thought he would flee and tried to Pursuit Armaldo. The subsequent Stone Edge was shrugged off by Tery's switch to Swampert. Tery tried to set-up a Curse but was met with a Tangrowth instead. Fearing the Grass-type move Ambipom came right back in, missing a Sleep Powder from Tangrowth, unfortunately for Zook. Some more hax came in Tery's favor as Ambipom scored a critical hit with Fake Out before Taunting Tangrowth, who had tried to put Ambipom to sleep again. Ambipom fainted to a Power Whip and Tery quickly switched in a Breloom and substituted as Armaldo was brought back in. Spore neutralized Armaldo and Tangrowth came in and took two Focus Punches before falling, but managed to break Breloom's sub. Zook switched in Togekiss and was met with Tery's Heatran, which Flamethrowered as Blissey came in and laughed it off. Some switching later, Heatran once again faced Togekiss. Heatran lit the fuse as Zook switched in his sleeping Armaldo to block it. Tery's Swampert tried to Curse up but Zook's Azumarill finished it off with two Waterfalls. Zook was up 5-3.

Breloom came back in, dispatching Azumarill with a Seed Bomb. Zook switched in his Togekiss which fried Tery's Metagross with Flamethrower on the switch-in. Tery sacrificed Metagross in order to bring in Gengar safely. A Thunderbolt could not do the trick and Gengar got confused as a result of Water Pulse. Gengar overcame the confusion and finished Togekiss off. Zook the Swinub jumped into the fray, and Protect served to pain Terywj as his Gengar hit himself in confusion. Swinub finished the job with a quick Ice Shard, and the spectators were roaring for a Swinub finish. Tery's Breloom took an Ice Shard while knocking Swinub down to 1%, courtesy of Focus Sash. Swinub Ice Sharded again as Breloom hid behind a sub, which was broken the next turn as Zook the Swinub fell. Blissey came in, and simply sealed Tery's fate by breaking the substitute Breloom tried to setup with Seismic Toss. To deal as much damage as possible, Breloom Seed Bombed a critical hit, but wasn't enough to take down Blissey, who ended the match with another Seismic Toss.

WouW vs. Pink Reaper [OU]

Results: WouW (2-0)
Summary: The second week of our BOTW series featured a fast-paced match between Pink Reaper and WouW. PR is semi-famous for creating an all-choice OU U-Turn team, and has contributed much to the Rating Room, while WouW is quite dedicated to his Counters thread, and as such, has a lot of experience dealing with UU threats. Both players agreed upon making Garchomp legal, so it was guaranteed there would be some Chomp usage going on in this battle.

The match began with a bit of a twist. PR was using a Lead Shaymin one might expect from WouW, while WouW was using an OU standard Lead Infernape. Shaymin stayed in despite the unfavourable match-up, and an unlucky miss from Fire Blast allowed PR to draw blood on the second turn of the game. WouW’s Garchomp came in and Fire Blasted (this time connecting), revealing an Occa Berry that gave PR the confidence to stay in the first time. WouW, unwilling to sac his badly damaged Chomp this early in the game, sent out his Latias to deal some hurt, finally KOing PR’s Shaymin. Things might look even at 5-5, but PR had scouted half of WouW’s team, and two of WouW's Pokemon were below 50% of their health; WouW was at a disadvantage.

PR’s Salamence was sent out and finished off Latias, though not before it did enough damage with Draco Meteor to allow WouW’s Garchomp to clean the rest of Salamence up. Metagross came in and Agility’d with the knowledge that WouW’s Chomp was Scarfed, but switched out to Blissey as Starmie entered the fray. WouW knew he could not win this matchup and went to his Lucario, who was crippled by T-Wave before CCing Blissey to death. Metagross came out once more and threatened Lucario with EQ, but WouW’s Gyarados was instead met with yet another Agility. While WouW’s BulkyGyara managed to knock out Agiligross, he switched out quickly when PR revealed his own Garchomp, who took out Starmie in one hit. WouW sent out his Garchomp, and managed to win the speed tie (both Chomps were Scarfed), leaving PR with his last Pokemon, which, unfortunately for WouW’s Garchomp, was a Mamoswine. After a bit of deliberation, WouW decided it was best to sac Garchomp, and sent in his Gyarados to Aqua Tail PR’s Mamoswine for a relatively hax-free 2-0 victory.

UltiMario vs. Roacherman [NU]

Results: UltiMario (4-0)
Summary: In our third BotW, the Poké Center veteran UltiMario is pitted against the newer Roacherman in the NU tier. UltiMario, a jack of all trades, seemed to have the advantage over the experienced spriter.

The match started with Roacherman’s Persian threatening to nerf UltiMario’s Typhlosion’s Eruption like Sakurai nerfed Fox. UltiMario wisely switched to his Gligar to absorb the Fake Out. Persian’s first Hypnosis missed, while Gligar set up Stealth Rock, especially important in a tier full of Fire- and Bug-type Pokémon. Persian’s second Hypnosis put Gligar to sleep, and Persian proceeded to assault it with Technician-boosted Bites. Gligar, taking 14% damage each hit, was able to wake up and Roost off the damage. Gligar stripped off half of Persian’s HP with Earthquake, and was promptly put to sleep by another Hypnosis. The next time it woke, Gligar hit Persian with Toxic, dealing residual damage. A few turns later, and Persian fell.

Roacherman’s switch-in, Espeon, threatened Gligar, whether it held Choice Specs, a Choice Scarf, or was a boosting Calm Mind sweeper. Gligar was OHKOed by Psychic; lack of Life Orb recoil or Leftovers recovery meant the only possibilities were Scarf and Specs. UltiMario’s Typhlosion returned. Which Pokémon, if any, was Scarfed? Typhlosion outsped and OHKOed with Eruption. Espeon had been carrying Choice Specs; Typhlosion reveals a Choice Scarf. Roacherman’s Slowking, one of the strongest special walls in the tier, threatened to OHKO Typhlosion with Surf and take little damage from Eruption. UltiMario revealed his Water Absorb Quagsire, taking advantage of the predictable Water-type attack. Quagsire was OHKOed by a super-effective Grass Knot, but not before Yawning at Slowking.

UltiMario sent out his Choice Scarf Medicham, who OHKOed Slowking with Thunderpunch. Roacherman’s Sandslash forced Medicham out, but UltiMario’s Charizard laughed at the incoming Earthquake. Charizard OHKOed with Fire Blast, and in came Roacherman’s Relicanth. Head Smash missed as UltiMario switched to Medicham, but it would not have OHKOed it. Medicham proceeded to finish off Roacherman with Brick Break, hitting Relicanth and the unrevealed Regice super-effectively, giving UltiMario a 4-0 win.

Summary: For the fifth BotW, we have two skilled OU battlers: supermarth64 and Articanus, also known as ss118. sm64 is known for writing several Smogon analyses while Articanus has reached the Shoddy Battle OU leaderboard. This matchup was expected to be a good one, with a high pace and much Pokemon blood to be shed.

The match began with two standard leads, sm64's lead Azelf vs Articanus's lead Metagross. sm64's Azelf quickly got off a Stealth Rock while Art's Metagross Meteor Mashed, dealing heavy damage to the opposing Azelf. Expecting a Bullet Punch, sm64 switched out Azelf for his Heatran, which ate the Bullet Punch for breakfast. Expecting a switch, Heatran used Substitute, but the opposing Metagross quickly broke it with an Earthquake. sm64's Heatran Fire Blasted the opposing Metagross, but Art's Metagross held an Occa Berry, which allowed it to survive and KO the opposing Heatran with an Earthquake. sm64 then sent in Latias, and with a crippled Metagross, Articanus decided to let it die to a Surf from Latias. He then switched in Scizor, but to his surprise, was immediately KOed by a Hidden Power Fire from sm64's non-Choiced Latias. Articanus then switched in Bronzong, who set up Stealth Rock as sm64 switched out to his Machamp. Machamp used Substitute to scout out the opposing move, while Articanus used Explosion to remove the Substitute at the cost of its own life.

Articanus then switched in Gliscor and immediately U-turned out to his Tyranitar, which took the Ice Punch aimed at Gliscor. Tyranitar used Superpower while Machamp Substituted, but the sandstorm took down the remainder of Machamp's health. sm64 then switched in his Sceptile and set up a Swords Dance as Articanus switched out Tyranitar for Gliscor. Sceptile's Life Orbed Leaf Blade failed to KO Gliscor, which then retaliated with a U-turn and switched in Lucario. Sceptiled aimed an Earthquake at Lucario, which hit nothing because Articanus switched back out to Gliscor. He then sacrificed Gliscor in order to let Sceptile die to Life Orb recoil.

sm64 then switched in Azelf as Tyranitar came in for Articanus, which then died to a swift Crunch. sm64 brought in his Scarf Jirachi and began Fire Punching, hoping for the burn. He finally got it right before Jirachi was taken out by Crunch. sm64 then brought in Latias, who managed to survive a Crunch and KO back with Surf. However, with Latias low on health, Articanus brought in his Lucario and finished it off with ExtremeSpeed, winning the battle in a 1-0 fashion.

Silent Verse vs. Terywj [UU]

Summary: Week 5 was an epic UU showdown between Silent Verse who peaked at number 2 on the UU ladder and Terywj who is a well-known UU player.

The match opened with two Ambipom leads. Not wishing to risk the speed tie Silent Verse switched his Donphan into the Fake Out. Donphan then killed Tery's Ambipom but not before taking a chunk of damage with Return. Tery's Milotic then made an appearance threatening to out-speed and easily kill Donphan with Surf. Wanting to keep Donphan alive Silent Verse switched in his Registeel who easily took the surf even with Life Orb. Tery then switched in Moltres to threaten Registeel with a super effective STAB Fire move. Moltres was met with a Toxic however, limiting his longevity. Moltres used Flamethrower but Silent Verse predicted the fire move and revealed his Milotic. Tery proceeded to bring his own Milotic out likely expecting a water move but Silent Verse decided to recover off the flamethrower damage. Silent Verse once again switched in Registeel this time, however he came in on Toxic which did nothing. Having seen Moltres previously Silent Verse set up Stealth Rock so Moltres would not be able to switch in as easily. Tery saw that his Milotic could do very little to Registeel and switched in Venusaur. Silent Verse switched in his Venusaur to get Sleep Powdered and then switched to his Clefable as Venusaur Swords Danced. Venusaur took a large chunk out of Clefables health with Power Whip and then was encored so he had to continue to Power Whip. Registeel then came in on the resisted Power Whip and, after waking up, took some health off of Venusaur with Seismic Toss. Not wishing to sacrifice his Registeel, Silent Verse switched in and sacrificed Clefable on the turn he would have died. At that point the encore ended and Terywj was once again able to use any move he wanted. At this point Venusaur was quite weakened so Silent Verse brought in his Ambipom to attempt to finish it off. However Tery revealed his own Registeel who easily took the Return meant for Venusaur. Registeel Cursed as Silent Verse switched in Donphan. Registeel was then able to take two Earthquakes and Curse again before resting. Knowing he would die before he woke up. Terywj switched in Moltres while Silent Verse switched in Milotic. Moltres took off about a third of Milotic's health before dying to a Surf. Terywj then switched Venusaur back in to attempt to kill something on Silent Verse's team. However Registeel was switched in and Terywj, knowing he couldn't do anything to Registeel, decided to switch to his own Registeel to wait out the sleep turns. Silent Verse meanwhile switched in his Ambipom. Terywj then sacrificed his Registeel to Ambipom's Low Kick.

Terywj was then left with just Milotic and the unrevealed Hitmontop whereas Silent Verse had Ambipom, Registeel, Milotic, and Venusaur remaining. Silent Verse's Milotic and Venusaur were able after a long stall battle to take down Terywj's reamining Pokemon, giving Silent Verse a 4-0 victory. This was a very close match, despite the score, and it made for a great BOTW! (Special thanks to Riddle for helping with Terywj's team)

Summary: Week 6 of Battle of the Week kicked off with an Ubers battle of epic proportions between Charmander1065, the guy who writes in orange, and Riddle, the guy who got to number 38 on the Ubers leaderboard. This is the first Ubers battle in the BOTW series, and it's between two self proclaimed Ubers greats. Riddle led with Darkrai, while Charmander led with Groudon. Charmander switched in his Starmie, while Riddle tricked Starmie a Choice Scarf, and he began to bellow a hardy sailor's laugh. Riddle switched in his Palkia, and Charmander's Starmie used Thunderbolt, taking about 20% of Palkia's health. This made Palkia very angry, so he began to go on a rampage. Charmander sent out Groudon, and Palkia nailed him with a mighty Spacial Rend. Palkia used another Spacial Rend, and Groudon went down. Charmander then switched in his Rayquaza that was cleverly named Sobe, but he was gone after a single Spacial Rend from Riddle's Palkia. Charmander then sent out his Scizor, who was also gone after one turn due a powerful Fire Blast from Palkia. This just goes to show, you should never use Thunderbolt on Palkia, or he'll take out half your team. Charmander became flustered, and sent out his Mewtwo, who got a generous critical hit on Palkia. Palkia wasn't going down without a fight, so he hit Mewtwo for another 71%. Riddle switched in his Garchomp, that ridiculous land shark. On the switch in, Mewtwo managed to hit it with a Shadow Ball. Riddle locked himself into Outrage, and killed Mewtwo. Charmander sent out his Starmie, who was ready to redeem himself after making Palkia mad. Starmie took out Garchomp with Ice Beam. Riddle sent out Wobbuffet, who easily disposed of Starmie. Charmander sent out Ho-oh, named Skittles, who yelled "TASTE THE RAINBOW". Ho-oh burned Wobbuffet with Sacred Fire, but Wobbuffet died of his burns after using Encore. Riddle then sent out Palkia, who took a big chunk out of Ho-oh with Spacial Rend, but Ho-oh defeated him regardless. Ready to go, Riddle sent out Darkrai, who missed with Dark Void, Causing him to die via Sacred Fire. Ready to get this thing over with, Riddle sent out Rayquaza who finished Ho-oh off with Outrage.

In the end, Riddle came out with a 2-0 victory, in a Ubers clash that will go down forever as "Why did Garchomp use Outrage?" Remember kids, don't use Thunderbolt on Palkia.

Umbreon vs. Articanus [OU]

Summary: BotW 8 featured an OU match between two famous Poke Center vets - Umbreon Mow and Articanus. This was the first match of the second season of the Poke Centers Battle of the Week Program and it was very intense. Before the battle the two combatants agreed to both use a team of Metagross, Salamence, Suicune, Scizor, Heatran, and Tyranitar.

Both combatants used a Metagross leads though they had different strategies. Articanus used a Rock Polish Metagross that was designed to take two Earthquakes from other Metagross and 2HKO back. Unfortunately on the second turn his Metagross was critically hit leaving Umbreon's Metagross with a third of its health. Articanus then switched in his Suicune to finish Metagross off with Surf and revealed a Life Orb. After mourning the death of his Metagross Umbreon revealed a Suicune of his own (shocker I know) and a Calm Mind battle ensued. Eventually they attacked each other and Umbreon's survived with around 40%. Articanus switched in Salamence to revenge kill with Dragon Claw but was not able to kill and promptly died to a Beam of Ice.

Umbreon's Suicune's rampage was finally ended by the scourge of OU, Scizor. Umbreon continued his practice of switching in the same pokemon Articanus already had out and brought out Scizor. Unfortunately for Umbreon, Articanus put Hidden Power: Fire on his Scizor to take advantage of technician and Scizor's spectacular base 55 Special Attack. Scizor was promptly fried by an unnecessary critical hit and Umbreon, unable to switch in the pokemon Articanus had out, switched in Heatran. Except he didn't really switch in Heatran, he switched in Salamence, I misread that. Anyway, Articanus switched in his Heatran to absorb the obvious fire attack from Salamence, but then died anyway because hes slow as **** and weak to Earthquake. Articanus then brought in Tyranitar and took some hefty damage from earthquake while Dragon Dancing to boost his attack and speed. Articanus' Tyranitar then killed Salamence with an unnecessary Stone Edge crit, Umbreon's Tyranitar with an unnecessary Aqua Tail crit, and then Heatran (this time it really is Heatran) with some boring and irrelevant misses, giving him the 2-0 victory.

Rockem7 vs. Kirbyraeg [UU]

Time: 7:00 PM Eastern
Results: Kirbyraeg (1-0)
Summary: BotW 9 was a UU match between two Pokemon Masters kirbyraeg and rockem7. Kirbyraeg has a history of doing well in tournaments and has proven very adaptable to new environments. Rockem7 specialized in the UnderUsed tier and so has some experience, but he is a relatively new battler. The two players met on shoddy battle, the spectators assembled, and the match kicked off!

Rockem7 decided to use a Trick Scarf Claydol lead, whereas kirbyraeg used a bulkier Uxie lead. Kirbyraeg set up the all important rocks of stealthiness while Claydol tricked Uxie into accepting a scarf in return for his leftovers. Locked into Stealth Rock kirbyraeg switched out his Uxie in favor of Ludicolo who promptly got exploded on. Both Ludicolo and Claydol fainted leaving each battler with 5 pokemon. Kirbyraeg switched in his now scarfed Uxie while rockem7 revealed an Ambipom. Ambipom Fake-out'd and Taunted while Uxie U-turn'd out revealing Rhyperior. Ambipom was able to take around 60% off of Rhyperior before dying. Blaziken was then able to switch in and finish rhyperior off with Vacuum Wave. Kirbyraeg countered priority with priority and switched in his Technitop which took a chunk out of Blaziken before being met by rockem's Donphan. Knowing he was outmatched kirbyraeg switched back in Uxie to avoid the Earthquake with levitate. Rockem made a switch to Registeel to absorb any hits from Uxie but was met with an extremely powerful Psychic that did a whopping 6%. Not wishing to scare rockem TOO much kirbyraeg called back his Uxie and swapped it for a Houndoom which was Toxic'd on the switch. Both pokemon traded hits and eventually died forcing both opponents to make a blind switch. Kirbyreag's Hitmontop and rockem's Blaziken once again and Hitmontop was able to finish Blaziken off with Mach Punch after taking some damage. Rockem once again used Donphan to scare Hitmontop off, but this time he correctly predicted the switch to Uxie and nearly killed him/her/it/potato with a super-effective Assurance. Not wanting to lose Donphan to the super-strong Psychic, rockem switched in Swellow who lost a chunk to Psychic and was burned by its Burn Orb. Swellow then killed Uxie with a boosted Facade. However, Hitmontop was able to revenge kill Swellow with Fake-out. This left just Donphan for rockem who managed to kill Hitmonotop but feel to kirbyraeg's Primeape.

This was a great and close 1-0 battle between kirbyraeg and rockem that was played very well on both sides. Unfortunately, rockem has quit competitive pokemon, but I look forward to more battles from kirbyraeg in the future.

That's easily the most memorable battle I've ever seen from members of SWF. And that's basically why I nominated him. I figured if anyone here could make a memorable battle like that happen again, it's probably the person who made it happen the first time.

Super Banned means banned forever so......yeah. I have him on AIM though Im sure we can work something out.

Yeah I have him on AIM as well, but he's been "Away" for like forever.

Edit: If he was Super Banned wouldn't he be removed from the Staff List?

That's either Azua or Crimson King's job(whichever one of them is head of Staff now) They seem to get kind of lazy about it though, if I remember Mow said he put in a request to be demodded more than a week before he got banned.

I'm thinking Umbreon Super Banned himself, oh, and BTW, it means "Banned from all forum acess", when you're banned you can still acess that one forum that you post your problems with other members or something, but when you're Super Banned, you can't acess it.
I don't think its permanent though, I don't think Umbreon feels like he needs to get away from this place THAT badly.
