Giving Undevloped pokemon chains their much deserved treatment

Some pokemon, quite a few pokemon, feel left off, unfinished, and just plain lack fullfillment of their potential. Every pokemon game features evolutions of previous generations, or prevolutions. Now, generally, in past projects, I liked to keep things limited, but here, I'd like to push our creative borders, while still retaining withing the rules of pokemon. I don't want to evolve pokemon with 3 chains or evolve legendaries. Other than that, anything goes. We can create moves and abilities for the new evolved forms, and create our "dream" evolution.

First, the structured order this thread will follow:

Step-
1. General discussion as to where the pokemon can go, either on an aesthetic level or a play style level. Both are important, and we should get a general feel for where the pokemon can go. We may disagree, but no decisions have to be made in this stage.

2. Art submissions and name. Here we try and create a general look for the pokemon. Its not entirely a competition. One who is lacking in artistic skills can draw a rough sketch and ask for a more artistic person to detail it for them. There will be a poll, yes, but its still not a competition, as we have sometimes treated the SMASHCAP threads.

3. Stats and ability. Now that we have a general direction and an aesthic direction, we can create a the stats. We are doing this AFTER the art for a simple reason, SMASHCAP is for primarily competitive reasons. This is half and half. Aesthetics are just as important as competitive play here.

4. Movepool. Here, we have the option to create new moves if we feel need be, and to finish off the final bits of the pokemon while the last bit of work is being finished up on the final step.

5. Create sprite. This is going on throughout the process after step 2.

The first thing I think we should cover is what its typing will be. Are we sticking with straight steel? It does have a plant element, and it could become Steel/Grass. It could also go the route of Steel/Dark with its color scheme, both of which are very interesting type combinations, especially Steel/Grass.

Imagine the best defensive typing combined with the amazing power that is Leech Seed. Combining it with Grass gives it a total of 2 weaknessess, very few neutral hits, and a slew of resistances, a 4 times resistance to ice, dark, and grass, as well as itself being immune to leech seed and toxic. Clearly, this is a defensive king in the making. Its STAB is nice too, hitting Earth, Ice, Water, and Rock for super effective damage. Nothing overwhelming about its offense potential clearly, but it will have the ability to take out many other defensive threats and bulky waters with this, allowing it to be a defensive threat with the ability to counter other defensive threats.

The movepool is what I'd be most excited about for Steel/Grass. It could be astounding, threatening, and vastly original. With moves like Synthesis, Leech Seed, Aromatherapy, Sleep Powder, Gyro Ball, and Iron Defense, the evolved form of Mewile could be potentially very threatening, as well as fun to use.

And from an in game standpoint, there hasn't been a steel/grass type yet, while steel/dark seems more like Legendary material.

Steel/Dark.

Mawile fools people into security and then bites them.

That's pretty dark right there.

Steel grass:
4x Fire
2x Fighting
Neutral Ice
Neutral Bug
Neutral Flying
Neutral Ground
0x Poison

Everything else is resisted.

Honestly, I think Steel/Dark should be left for legendaries, not because its TOO GOOD, but because its simply too exotic. I would feel the same about a Dragon/Steel or something similar. Also, talk about bad for the metagame, Pyschich and Poision pokemon have enough trouble as is, no reason to give them another bad pokemon to deal with.

Should we go with Steel/Grass, I wouldn't want to see a lot, if any, green.

As for a general idea on its aesthic, I'd really like to see it look like an anti-gardevoir in a way for the body. Continue the feminine apperance, keep the dress, become perhaps even more woman like. Meanwhile, by the final stage, the mouth continues to grow, until the two are standing next to each other, like master and pet (still connected at the head though. I shuold perhaps make this idea more structured so its easier to understand

stage 2- Mouth hangs downward, its mouth around the stage 2 pokemon. Should behave like hair, hiding the timid faced body. Think a bit about the girl from The Increadibles. That's the kind of thing I'm imagining. Meanwhile, the pokemon's body is longer, she still has a dress, but her legs stick out a bit more. and there is a seperation of torso and lower body.

stage 3- a fully devloped human shape, the dress remains, has a slight "wasp" figure, but is mostly slendor. The mouth now sits besides the pokemon, and she pets it, looking at the other pokemon with a confident smirk.

So, it takes the humanoid shape we see in pokemon like Jynx and Gardevoir, and gives it a new build and direction.

Explain the rock? Its a Venus Fly Trap.

Also, Arceus no. No Steel and rock. Please for the love of Arceus. Not another Aggron.

Steel/Rock is easily in the top 10 of the worst overall typings in the game.

Bad idea.

I know, since Mawile looks like a rock type, I was thinking that its evo could be steel/rock.

I'm not basing it on any competitive aspect, but what it looks like it'd be

For some reason I can only see a single evolution for Mawile.

And all I can envision for it is the giant maw getting bigger and nastier, possibly gaining some sort of personality of its own as a self-living creature and actually being Mawile's protector of sorts. No eyes though. It'd look cooler without.

Sounds bland, but I'm kinda out of it right now.

And I agree with Steel/Dark, obv. Just keeping it Steel would be pretty cool too, although you'd have to take a different direction to make sense of it.

EDIT: I guess you'd say my vision for it is kind of like CRASHiC's stage 3 description, only with a nastier, more lively mouth.

It doesn't take much to make the top 10.

Of all existing type combinations, Steel / Rock is probably in the top 3 or 5.

Got a question. After we're done with Mawile could we do Porygon2? I mean we could make a new stone evolution or something. I got the idea after I saw its dex entry saying that it failed to meet its expectations and never got to go to space to colonize new planets. Just wonderin if we could actually make a successful porygon. Maybe a split evolution branch?

Anyways back on topic, I was thinking that in the new evo, we could separate the... thing on its back of its head from Mawile. We could have it as some sort of bodyguard to the Mawile evo or we could pull a Shedinja by it being an entirely separate entity just like Shedinja and Ninjask

Carnivine is a venus fly trap, but Mawile is mostly based on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futakuchi-onna
Wow, interesting to know. Very interesting in fact. Just adding to the love I feel for Mawile. Kind of throws my Steel/Grass out the window, while validating my aesthic evolution

I know, since Mawile looks like a rock type, I was thinking that its evo could be steel/rock.

I don't see how it even looks like its rock though.

Forgot to mention the bolded. No eyes.

And that's about half of what my idea was, the girl growing up, and the creature becoming its protector, thus while in the 2nd stage it covers and shield her, and in the final stage it stands and fights for her. I think developing the girl is just as important as developing the hair itself.

And I agree with Steel/Dark, obv. Just keeping it Steel would be pretty cool too, although you'd have to take a different direction to make sense of it.
Keeping it Steel would be also be interesting, and since I'm reluctant to Dark and Steel, this would be a nice alternative.

Lockjaw.

I was actually going to use it on a Water/Bug Pokemon I wanted to create as a Pinsir/Heracross equivalent, but when I saw how many 1st stage Pokemon the SWF-Dex already had I didn't make it.

I don't know if you want to stick it at 20% higher though like Iron Fist. Why not up it a bit more? Maybe to the Technician-equivalent power of 50%? There isn't a single biting-like move with a base power above 80, and no priority (which, as we know, is why Technician is so useful for Scizor) exists in bite-like moves either. This makes it work out just right I think.

Thunder Fang/Ice Fang/Crunch/Brick Break (Or EQ if the Evo can get it?)

Because of the 50% boost T/I Fang are stronger than Boltbeam, Brick Break/EQ would round the coverage off, and Crunch becomes cool with 180 power assuming this becomes Steel/Dark

This looks pretty good.

Why hasnt there been a medusa-like suggestion for her evo?

she had biting hair...not a stretch to go and make her have a better bod and multiple maws in her "hair" like a certain gorgon

The thing is not all of those necessarily will need evolutions. Do we really want to give Lucario / Bronzong evolutions?

Just my thoughts. Thanks for compiling the list though, Spire.

Just like Chad Ochocinco.

Dugquint > Dugpent. But seriously guys, we can probably weed out the unecessary stuff (like the aforementioned Lucario evolution).

Amazing List! Any chance you could edit it into the OP? I can't quote it I'm afraid.

Why hasnt there been a medusa-like suggestion for her evo?

That idea doesn't seem as appealing to me, but if someone could make it work, then I'd like to see it.

Luvdisc and Spinda are humor pokes.

Evolving them so they're better seems......wrong.
Nonsense. I could see Spindra becoming something truly epic, an anti-Ursurang.

The thing is not all of those necessarily will need evolutions. Do we really want to give Lucario / Bronzong evolutions?

Just my thoughts. Thanks for compiling the list though, Spire.

Remember, spire said preevolutions as well. Also, Bronzong could probably do for a light evolution, similar to that one ghost who didn't need one, and got one, but still wasn't that amazing whose name I am too tired to remember.

Also, I've thought about it while at work today. I believe Steel/Dark would be the way to go considering the origin of this pokemon, the general direction we seem to want it to go, etc. Dark types and steel types are nortorious for being defensive, but, what would a pokemon with a 4 times weakness to fighting type moves and a weakness to Earthquake be? It has two immunities, physic and poision, which would have been more impressive in a previous generation, but not so much in todays, though the resistence to toxic is a welcome benefit. Its stab is of course unimpressive.

As for the ability, the only thing i worry about is Crunch having 180. Do we really want that? A 180 base power move with no negative draw backs to it? That's a little obscene if you ask me. We could counter balance this by giving it a horrible attack stat.

Another possibility, and one that would perhaps makeup for its lack of resistance and two bad typings aside from giving it Blissey-esq stats would be based on the idea of the mouse acting as a protector and lure for its opponent. Though I'm unsure of the name, think of it as a auto-counter, or a buffed rough skin, decided on how exactly we want it to function. The idea would for this to be a physical Blissey, one way or another, thus balancing the currently out of wack Physical to Special balance in the metagame. My rough name is "Bites Back." As the opponent hits mawile, the mouth bites him. Of course, this only works on physical attacks, as special attackers would be too far away.

The question for this ability is how do we want it to function? My first thought was to act as a auto-counter, doing a percentage of the damage she receives. Then I considered how unbalanced that might be, and wondered if it would be better to have a set damage. I favor the auto-counter, but that's still up for debate within my head.

We could have two evolutions. EDIT: For Mawile.

Also, how on earth does Dugquint sound better than Dugcinco?

So your "Bites Back" idea is basically a more fitting name for Sharpedo's Rough Skin?

Y'know like Insomnia / Vital Spirit.

Well, as mentioned, if we went with the set damage, it would be a buffed version of Rough Skin and deal more damage. I prefer the auto-counter, I simply worry about how broken this would be.

I didn't read everything you said yet (I just skimmed because I knew you'd mention the ability), but I will comment on this part. It's not actually 180 base power. It's only 120, which is the same as the likes of Fire Blast, Thunder, Blizzard, and Close Combat. The 180 comes from factoring in STAB, which to argue the point of whether or not this is a good thing I would like to point out the likes of Lucario and Heatran, who both put their respective STABs to great use (and for the most part don't have to worry about the drawbacks), yet aren't overpowered. And the high power will actually be offset by what is, in quite a lot of ways, the true factor for the usefulness of a sweeper: speed. I mean, at least when you look at what we plan to do with this aesthetically, its speed shouldn't be raising much; if at all. This should balance out the power of its Crunch, much like it does for the likes of Lucario and Heatran. It HAS Crunch, but it most certainly won't be able to abuse it and win from the abuse.

EDIT: @annoying: Dugcinco sounds better on its own to me, but at the same time, Dugquint sounds better when put into the evolution line. I don't know how that works, but for some reason it seems to from my opinion.

no evo for bronzong, please, dusklops and rhydon got them when those were totally unnecessary

Dugquinto (C WAT I DID THAR!!!) should be the evo for dugtrio, who really doesn't need one, remember he was OU before platinum came out

if i am to add these onto the server, only those with competitive value will be necessary

I added my lists to the OP. Also, if we make all 173, then that'll bring the grand total of Pokémon ca. Gen 4 to 666. Hehe.
