The Tournament

Introduction
This roleplaying thread is for the members who are in support of obtaining a subforum specifically designed for roleplaying. As such, this thread will be run on the assumption that everyone understands and knows how to properly roleplay (no godmodding, player-controlling etc.).

This tournament will consist of 1v1 matchups, where the other players can choose to watch or comment from the sidelines. Aside from Werekill and myself, there will be room for 10 other participants, capping at a total of 12 players and 6 matchups for the first round.

Character Submissions
You can submit a character and basically register for this by filling out the following and sending it to me as a private message.

[collapse=Character Guideline]Name:
Age:
Gender:
Description: (Images can be used)
Personality:
Weapon(s):
Fighting Style / Basic Attacks: [/collapse]

Your character can be as simple or as complex as you want. You’re encouraged to write a strong amount for your character, but not to the point where you’re overloading on attacks and abilities. My submitted character will serve as an example.

[collapse=Character Guideline]Name: Terywj Zero

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Description:

Personality: Tery is typically in a good mood. He is often cheerful, and enjoys making people feel at home or happy. He is very laid-back and friendly, and in battle he is almost always calm under pressure. He cares deeply for his friends and is someone who would do anything for them, within reason.

Weapon(s): Zero Blade - A legendary katana of the Fire element used by Terywj's father Tazuna. The Zero Blade is pure white, with dark blue running along the sides. The guard is white, and has a silver tint to it. The handle and hilt and are both gold, with the hilt taking a resemblence to a tetra-shaped cross. The handle is wrapped with a long white fireproof cloth that can be unwound and hang loose from a small notch at the end of the handle.

Fighting Style / Basic Attacks: Having been a swordsman since he was a child, Tery is well-built and weathered by the battles of his past. That said, he can usually last for long periods in battle. His energy will be more quickly exhausted depending on certain moves. Tery excels strongly in long and short-range combat.

Exodus Flame
- Terywj swings Zero Blade, casting a wave of blue flames. The attack is fast, and can score multiple hits. The flames also zero in on the target.

Seriyaku
- A fast series of unavoidable release of the Zero Blade's fire energy. While it is unavoidable, it leaves Tery open for a good while after the attack is complete.

Flicker
- Tery dashes at his opponent and delivers a horizontal swing. At the same moment a he flashsteps behind the opponent to deliver other attacks.

Fire Shard
- Small flames form edged triangles in front of Tery as he rams into his opponent. The attack is weak but extremely fast.

Flashstep
- Tery fires a quick burst of energy into his feet, allowing extremely fast movement.

Jet Release (Activated)
- Tery releases a large burst of flames from his body from a single or few centered points. The flames provide speed and back his sword techs.[/collapse]

Rules
As stated previously, we are using this thread under the assumption that you know how to properly roleplay. Keep all basics and such in mind as you are fighting. A heavily armored fighter is not going to easily dodge a slew of attacks, a user of the Water-element is going to suffer more damage from Lightning-element attacks, etc. If I find that there are problems with your playing, I’ll PM you asking you to change.
1) Posts shouldn’t be too short or too long. One-liners add nothing to the topic or the story, and posts that are too long make it seem like the other RPers are merely following the lead of the topic host, doing essentially nothing but reacting to everything that happens. Both can make a topic boring. Even worse, some people won’t read the whole thing, and then they’ll make a mistake and mess everything up.

2) Don't rush your posts, especially when opening a topic up, as it makes a very bad first impression. Spelling mistakes and grammar errors make following the topic harder than it needs to be. That said, try your best to use proper spelling and grammar.

3) Try not to post at the same time as someone else; it will confuse everyone, especially if you both did the same thing. This happens – just edit your post if it does. Try not to use the “quick reply” box; you won’t show up on the topic’s user list as posting, and someone may post before you or immediately after. You can also refresh the page to see if anyone posted before you did, after you finish writing.

4) Don't bunny or godmod. This is the only “actual” rule to be enforced here – if you're seen doing either I will tell you to edit your post. If you do it regularly I’ll simply end the fight.

Bunnying: Taking control of someone's character without their permission. If they give you permission to control their character, make sure to make a note in your post that says so.

Godmodding: Avoiding every single attack that is thrown your way, determining by yourself how your target is affected by your attacks, escaping unrealistic situations, and picking up new skills on the fly. If you lose an arm (ouch), you are not going to be able to fight as well as you did when you had the arm. The same goes for basic injuries, etc. Basically, being completely unrealistic and being overpowered for its own sake. Don’t worry – we know! Being an over-the-top action hero is popular, and acquiring latent abilities in a tough situation can be a legitimate plot device. However, if taken too far it can kill the fun.

When a match between two members begins you are expected to show courtesy. You either don’t post and follow what happens, or you may post sideline comments from your character watching. If you choose to do the latter, make sure you don’t overpost.

Gameplay
When all 12 participants have sent in their profiles the opening match will start. For conveniences Werekill and I will be the first fight. Roleplay as you would, but keep in mind because there are a total of 6 fights for the first round you cannot make the fight drag on for too long. Keep in mind human limits of your character. If the fight drags on too long I’ll request that one of you finish the fight.

Winning and losing is completely up to you, as is any roleplay. You are in control of how well your character fights and performs. If you feel you’re being outclassed by your opponent then you can choose to lose. Since this is fighting, a loss is not determined by a death. If your character ends up horribly injured, you can have them call it quits. In fact, since I’m not completely in favor of deaths (especially this is just a jumping-off thread) I can call match finishes whenever it seems plausible.

[2] Werekill
[collapse=Character]Name: Werekill Hazelips

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Description: An average sized, white young man who normally wears dark jeans, no shirt, and a black hoodie that he got on sale at Hot Topic. He has bandages wrapped around his abdomen because it looks cool.

Personality: He is generally friendly, but he can be a little arrogant when he fights. Or fishes. Or plays music. Or competitively eats hot dogs.

Weapon(s): He uses a bracelet with a small crystal hanging from it that amplifies his magical power. He also uses a sword hilt that can freeze and attach to a long and slender stream of water, and this makes a handy impromptu sword.

Fighting Style / Basic Attacks: He uses a self-taught style whenever he uses a sword, but when he uses his water magic, he uses several common techniques, albeit with... “creative” names.

Turn on your fog lights
-This technique increasing the amount of water vapor in the air and creates a fog over the battlefield. This makes it easier to do more powerful water techniques.

Floating River
-This creates a long stream of water that a water-style magic user can manipulate. If fog is present, this technique can be nearly instantaneous.

Ice blade, mang
-This requires a Floating River to be in a long, slender form. Normally used in conjunction with a sword hilt, this technique creates a sword out of ice. The hilt replaces the freezing cold ice as a handle, but it isn't really needed if the user wears thick gloves.

Lick it and see if your tongue sticks. You know you want to.
-This creates a wall out of ice, which can be used as a shield. Like the floating river, this can be used very, very quickly if fog is present.

Hold your breath.
-This technique uses all the water vapor within a large area to create a large, spherical body of water around an enemy. The outer shell is then frozen, and the enemy drowns. Not only does this tire out the user, but the frozen shell can be shattered if enough force is used against it. Because of this, this technique is not recommended for use except for in the most desperate situations.[/collapse]

[3] Zook
[collapse=Character]Name: Chon Hondid

Age: 36

Gender: Male

Description:

Personality: Charismatic and cheerful, Chon has a way with people. Beneath his friendly facade, however, is a cunning and conniving man, easily capable of finding out what makes people laugh and what breaks their will. He uses his forceful personality to con people out of money, get out of sticky situations, and win fights without ever throwing a punch.

Weapon(s): He carries with him a few weapons: a small crossbow, a dagger, and a cane which can turn into a cobra once per day, at Chon's request.

Fighting Style / Basic Attacks: Chon tries his hardest to keep a safe distant from his enemies. He hides his identity as a spellcaster for as long as possible, using illusions to distract and confuse his foes. Chon resorts to his dagger and staff only in desperate situations.

Mind Reader
- By concentrating intensly, Chon can scan the thoughts of others. He can either seek out specific information (generally, he tries to find things which the character cares about) or get a general idea of their surface thoughts. Using this ability takes several seconds, and puts Chon in a sort of trance, causing him to ignore everything around him except for his target's thoughts. It would be very difficult - and very dangerous - to use this in the heat of battle, making it unplausable to be used to, say, dodge attacks.

Hallucination
- Chon causes an illusion to appear in his target's mind. This illusion can take on various forms, from a hallucinatory creature to hallucinatory sound and anywhere in between. Of course, the illusion isn't real, and if the character afflicted with an illusion realizes what it sees isn't real, the illusion vanishes. It takes Chon a few seconds to cast this, and requires him to moderately concentrate on it to keep it going.

Displace
- Chon snaps his fingers and displaces his image, appearing to be a few feet from where he really is. This spell lasts 30 seconds, and makes it difficult to hit him.

"Your mother was a *****."
- Words hurt, too, you know. This minor spell takes the form a short insult, and has several different outcomes, depending on how personal the target finds the insult. Barely insulting may just make them a bit angry; moderately insulting may sap a bit of their fighting will; highly insulting literally feels like a punch to the gut.

Whelm
- Chon causes his target to experience a headache. The headache becomes more painful the more he breaks their willpower, and can be used to make it appear as if illusions are hurting them.

Vertigo
- A disoriantating illusion which causes the target to feel as if the ground fell out beneath their feet.

Phantasmal Killer
- Chon creates a phantasmal image of the most fearsome creature imaginable to the subject simply by forming the fears of the subject’s subconscious mind into something that its conscious mind can visualize: this most horrible beast. Only the spell’s subject can see the phantasmal killer. Everyone else sees only a vague shape. The phantasmal killer proceeds to come in contact with its victim.[/collapse]
[4] Finalark
[collapse=Character]Name: Has no known name, goes by the title "The Red Vengeance"
Age: Unknown(looks to be late 20s/early 30s)
Gender: Male
Description: A man of average height but has a strong, muscular build. On his right cheek he bares a scar that looks like it was left by a quick slash. He has short black hair and his face is as stern and stoic as he is. Think Captain Falcon + Judge Dredd + Kenshiro
Personality: He doesn't say much around other people and tries not to form bonds or any sort of friendship. He's stoic, his face rarely gives emotion but despite this he shows through his actions that he genuinely cares for the well being of others and rises up to stop injustice when he sees it.
Weapon(s): His fists, which are covered by black gauntlets with red gems in the center of them.
Fighting Style / Basic Attacks: The Red Vengeance is a practitioner of a style of martial arts all his own, combining attacks and stances from every style that he encounters. However, he focuses on strong, steady styles rather than light and agile ones. He also has power over fire and puts it into his special attacks:

- Dainsleif: The Red Vengeance charges at his foe and grabs them, causing them to erupt into flames.

- Gram: After throwing his opponent high into the air, The Red Vengeance leaps after them, grabs them then throws them into the ground with unstoppable force after turning them into a living fireball.

- Gungir: The Red Vengeance performs a hard, strong, flaming kick (also works in mid-air).

- Hrotti: The Red Vengeance causes his entire body to engulf in flame, raising his strength and speed. However, this is only brief (lasting for about two and a half minuets) and drains him of his energy.

- Laevateinn: After slamming his flaming fist into his opponent's solar plexus, this attack sends it's target flying several yards backwards.

- Mjolnir: He charges all of his power into his fist and slams it into his opponent, causing catastrophic damage. However, he is incredibly venerable if he misses.[/collapse]
[5] Quirkynature
[collapse=Character]Name: Quain
Personality: Your standard guy, 30 years of age. No smiles. Dead eyes, like something’s gone out of him. He has an iron will, forged by 5 years in captivity and 3 years escaping. He is openly hostile when approached but calm and content when left alone.
Weapons: He carries two short swords with him and steel bracers on his arms. For the rest, add in jeans and boots, a normal shirt and an overcoat engraved on the inside that provides limited protection from magical assault. And a codpiece, because some people just want to hit where it hurts.
Fighting style: His style depends on flashy deception. He twirls and weaves in and out a lot. As such, he has a lot of near misses, but those near misses are purposefully done—to wear the opponent down slowly, but steadily.

Rush
Quain rushes forward very quickly and strikes at his opponent’s legs with one sword and at the opponent’s torso with the other. If, and only if, he misses, or the opponent steps back, he steps forward and strikes again. If that, too, misses, he trips and falls. Chains into Focus only.

Focus
Once every five minutes, Quain can deflect one attack completely. Think of it as perfectshielding, but once every five minutes. Since he has two swords, it essentially means one free hit as long as it’s close range. If not, it chains into Rush or Tension.

Blur
Multiple images of Quain appear on the battlefield, the real Quain among them. He cannot attack while in this state, however, because it uses too much concentration and he is still a n00b at it. Primarily used defensively. Offensively, he can appear behind the opponent. Key word: can. Using this move leaves him drained and unable to use any special moves for twenty seconds.

Tension
He coils like a spring and sprints forward in bursts to throw the opponent off track as to when he will strike. The last burst fully closes the distance, his swords extended to impale the opponent on them. Chains well into Saccade.

Saccade
A primarily offensive move, where he can move preternaturally fast within a radius of six feet for five seconds. Using this move puts a great deal of strain on his legs, and makes it difficult to move for twenty seconds.[/collapse]
[6] Fuzz
[collapse=Character]Name: Warren Stone
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Description: (Images can be used)
A tall, kind of scruffy white male. A guy who is fairly skinny and a little bit taller then average. but always wears a scowl. Always wearing a T shirt and Beanie. His hair is like a mop, unkept and dirty.
Personality:
He is a man who is passionate about winning this tournament. He doesn't care much for fighting and used to be incredibly carefree living a life of peace. He had a passion for the arts and loved indulging in creative pursuits such as painting, DJing and producing music. He started working on a unique style of martial arts because he lived in a dangerous town, and although violence clashed with his personality the style of martial arts and his unique weapons were so dangerous he became infamous and feared for them. He was captured and imprisoned by the tournaments organisers, They currently have his lover taken captive and the condition he has been given for her safe return has been to win this tournament. Now he doesn't care who he has to kill to get her or his old life back.
Weapon(s):
Recimitars- He uses a pair of refined scimitars originally made from a broken vinyl record which have certain time-based qualities.

Fighting Style / Basic Attacks:
He fights using two swords and has a lot of attacks that manipulate time though some have drawbacks.

First and foremost he has a strong sense of rhythm and is good at seeing through patterns in peoples attack.

Largo- A technique which slows down Warren's perception of time. This technique is used to read the patterns of a persons body language and predict and understand the fundamental basics of the attacks.
To start up the technique warren must put his swords together and form a whole record. It is then that the record starts to spin and his perception of time becomes affected.
While using Largo Warren must keep completely still. He simply cannot move. the technique is useful for observation only and warren can exit Largo at any time.

Decellerando- A technique which slows down the opponent. Puts warren in immense pain. The pain distracts his focus so much he is unable to attack properly. This technique is only used to dodge, repeated uses are incredibly debilitating. can only be used twice in a day or warren will need to be hospitalised

Accelerando- An attack which is a sped up flurry of slashes. The attack is so fast most slashes are invisible to the naked eye. lasts for a maximum of 4 seconds but is visibly tiring to use.

Crescendo- places recimitars and causes records to spin to create a loud noise which is used to reveal the location of the enemy

Fortissimo- Slashes which are so strong they cause strong gusts of wind which can send opponents off their feet but not flying back-- used to disrupt the "tempo" of the enemy[/collapse]
[7] Sephiroths Masamune
[collapse=Character]Name: Seph
Gender: Male
Age: 30

Description: Has the height of 6 feet 1 inch and has a fairly muscular build. He wears a black leather outfit and has his jacket open so people can see his abs.

Personality: Usually calm and collect, but is very decisive. He has a strong mind and thinks alot during the heat of battle and will focus all his attention towards the enemy.

Weapons: He owns a Katana crafted from a meteorite, it is made of a special alloy that is indestructible and resistant to any element know to man. This sword is so sharp it can cut through diamond.

Fighting Style: Seph only purpose in life was to become the world’s most powerful swordsman. At an early age he became a sword master by fighting his master in a one on one dual to the death. Soon after he searched the world in order to find someone who could match his skill, all the while learning the ways of the sword as he fought. He now knows every move in sword play. Since Masamune is resistant to any form of element, Seph has to rely on his swordsmanship, so Seph journeyed to find ways to improve his abilities of speed and supernatural movement to compliment his swordsmanship.

Mimic
-Seph sword play is skilled enough to mimic the others move in mid combat. He cannot mimic the elemental aspects of the move but he can mimic the motion, movement and force of the blade. This will take as much energy it is required for the original move minus the elemental strain.

Teleportation
-Seph gathers energy to teleport around the stage, this move is fast but takes alot of energy doing so, and should be used sparingly.

Arial Rush
-Slashes the opponent into the air, moves behind them and slashes them towards the ground. If Seph misses with the initial slash he automatically goes into the air because of how fast you need to react with this move leaving him wide open for an attack.

Oblivions Draw
-Sephs ultimate move, he moves at blinding speeds and slashes you multiple times faster than the eye can see. This move is a last resort and not an instant kill although it does do high damage. After this move Seph will be vulnerable for most the remainder of the match.[/collapse]
[8] Cutter
[collapse=Character]Name: Rettuc
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Description: A moderately tall (6’2”) white man, Rettuc wears mainly all black clothing, including a leather jacket.

Personality: Erratic by nature, Rettuc can be frenzied and excited one moment and stoic and analytic the next. He tends to side more on the impulsive side though, and enjoys being able to take action while not trying to err on the side of stupidity or pride.

Weapons: Rettuc is able to generate, magnify, and manipulate electric fields and electric currents. He creates them by converting any other form of energy around him, such as metabolic energy in his body, or the thermal energy from sunlight on his skin into electrical energy.

Rettuc also carries a three-foot sword named Volta. It is entirely made of a metal (including the hilt) that has perfect superconductivity at room temperature.

Fightning style/basic attacks: Most of Rettuc’s attacks come from his electricity manipulation, though the Volta can be used to channel and focus other attacks for some long-range or mostly melee attacks. While he can fight at both long-range and melee ranges, Rettuc prefers to engage enemies at midrange.

Power Surge
Rettuc’s basic energy-based attack. Rettuc creates an electric current and projects either hand outward to send it out to any given target(s). The voltage is directly proportional to how much energy is used.

Volta Shaft
Rettuc raises Volta and either raises it into the air or slams it into the ground. Electricity will flow from Rettuc into Volta effortlessly as the electricity is then transferred to the medium that it’s touching. This can be used as an area-of-effect attack and its effectiveness depends on the resistance of the medium that the electricity flows through, among other factors. It also doubles as an effective melee attack.

Circuit Buster
Rettuc changes the electrical resistance of whatever he’s physically touching, either making the material more resistant, or making the material less resistant, depending on what he chooses. This is temporary and it will only adjust the resistance of that object to within a range of about +/- 10^8 ohms. As a result, Rettuc can make any material conduct electricity more or less.

Faraday’s Vengeance
Using electromagnetic induction, Rettuc can generate a magnetic field based on the type of electric current that he creates. The magnetic fields created from this can then be used to do things such as attract/repel metal, and pretty much do anything that a typical magnet can do. This does require a great deal of energy to maintain however.[/collapse]

The Tournament: PreStory

The afternoon skies shine brightly, and the weather is warm, but not too hot as you make your way through the small, almost deserted town. The wind is blowing gently from the east, and plantlife everywhere seems to shine. You can't help but wonder how such a beautiful place like this seemingly contains no people. As you pass through the vacant markets and streets, two children run by you, playing a game of tag. A slip of paper falls from one of the boy's pockets, and you pick it up. The children have ran off, so you decide to see what's inside, just out of curiosity. "Challenger Approaching!", read the title. "Come show us what you're made of at the Coliseum!" with directions was neatly written underneath.

"..." Terywj Zero looks in the direction of the Coliseum. It's old, battered, and absolutely demolished, having aged with time. He runs a hand through his hair, pondering his decision. It's been a while since he was on break from mercenary work. Going to this and participating might end up a positive experience, and he needed the training. Who knows what kind of people he'd meet there.

As he approached the Coliseum, a slightly armored man met him at the entrance. "Good day," the guard said. "Likewise," responded Tery. "Are you here for the tournament?" asked the guard. Tery nodded and was directed to a large poster / plaque which had the details of the organization and setup of the tournament. "You're actually the first one here, so you may look around the Coliseum or sit anywhere in the stands for now." Tery nodded. "Thanks." As he walked slowly around the arena, he noticed how most of the Coliseum really was torn out. It looked like it could collapse any minute. I suppose I'd have to be more careful when I'm fighting this time around, thought Tery. He hoped someone new would show up at the Coliseum soon. He didn't like being lonely.

This sounds suspiciously similar to Pen and Sword...
Yes, but this isn't as serious as Pen and Sword is. We're doing simple roleplaying as a jumping-off point. We won't need a whole page and stuff for members. And there are other technical changes such as the GM not in charge of who wins or loses, etc.

It is, and it isn't. Terywj and Werekill are very adamant about making the movement towards a RP forum or sub-forum for SWF, and I encouraged them to take smaller steps - instead of petitioning for a forum, first show that there is a group willing to fill that forum, and make a RP where you can. This is that RP.

This is pretty darn different from PnS. PnS is not a roleplay contest, but it is a writing contest. In PnS, you do not choose whether you win or die - the winner is chosen by the mod/judge, and the losers are eliminated slowly. In a RP, the tournament or setting is based on whatever you want (within rules of godmodding/controlling other people's characters). The largest difference is that this is not a writing contest.

Terywj, I would incredibly, incredibly encourage you to post the normal rules for RP in the OP. I understand that you expect to get some RP regulars here, but "this thread will be run on the assumption that everyone understands and knows how to properly roleplay (no godmodding, player-controlling etc.)" is not as good as explaining all the rules and common practices so that there is no misunderstanding.

I look forward to writing and PMing my character and roleplaying with you guys.

I'll play for sure. I'm down to help out with new things plus I RPd for a good two years or so, lol. Problems I see with this is people knowing when to back down, cause everyone wants their character to excel. Also, there is no element of surprise in RPs unless the other player pretty much agrees upon it. Essentially the other player can always just come up with someway to negate it. Which isn't godmodding, but is along the lines of. So, I don't know. I was brought up on more story based RPGs, with player controlled oppositions. So it's a learning process for sure.

I doubt without a forum base many people will. Plus, it's not hard at all, Kat, you'll know what you're doing in no time. ;)

Also, I support the idea of an RP subforum. I think it'd gather enough attention to be an attraction. If my word means anything anymore, lol.

We have a social group which is in my signature. Remember that because of the limited amount of players all participants need to submit their character to me before I add them onto the player list.
I'll have the basic rules up in a bit.

That's still a huge if, Werekill, you're going to have to have quite a few people on your side to get this to go through.

EDIT: Also, more than likely, it's going to take more than one successful RP to even be considered. It's additional work that could end up being fruitless, and remembering past subforum debates it's something that will be discussed at some length. I'd be prepared to show a handful of successful thriving RPs, but take baby steps with it and let this begin to flourish beforehand. Also, you're going to have to abide by forum rules with the RP and at some times that can be an issue. Seeing as how this is a family friendly website you have to abide by those rules. So extensive violence, encounters, and the such must be kept at a forum friendly level so that users who are younger may not stumble across it and parents catch wind. That's when issues arise, and things can go downhill.

That's still a huge if, Werekill, you're going to have to have quite a few people on your side to get this to go through.
Exactly, which is why I said "might be able to."

The simple fact that this thread exists shows that there might be a chance to do some serious roleplaying on a great forum, and to be honest, that is making me pretty excited.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't see your edit because SWF mobile messed up.

Thanks for your advice! You're right, this is not going to be a quick or easy thing to do, but I'm going to stick with it, work hard on it, and see it through till the end, and I believe Terywj feels the same way.

I'd like to learn to RP, so I'll probably be lurking here during the contest. I'd rather watch first than just jump in. But yeah, I'm for a RP Sub Forum, so consider me part of your support. :p

If so then Werekill and I will just keep running more RP's. I've been roleplaying since I led the Twilight Heroes in 2008 so I'm a veteran and know what I'm doing. The only difference here is that I'm restricted to making a thread for registration and a thread for the actual RP.

If we were to get a subforum, Werekill and I already have a lot of things prepared. We have a detailed character sheet, magic FAQ / background, etc.

Like Rockem....I'm going to lurk at first and then maybe join in..I've never done any post by fourm type rp'ing.
I like the techs of all the characters so far :3
Good work! Also just want to add in that the rules are nicely written and easy to understand.

Ah yeah. I'll probably send in a character by tomorrow. Great job so far T&W.

Must the characters be original or are we using actual characters? The character I use is only semi-original.
Zen Itachi, based off of Itachi.... Actually I'll just use Jubei for now.

I haven't sent in mine yet, but I'm thinking about using a non-original character from League of Legends (game with little lore or story for this character). Is that alright?

Are we confined to one character, or can we control a team, as long as it's not overpowered?

I'm an old school RPer. In Yahoo and other chats this is called T1. It's sister form, T2, was speed based fighting. Both are legit though I personally prefer T2. I've been doing both for a liitle over 10 years off and on.

I'll enter with my info later.

The biggest problem here will be players accepting hits. It's always been the biggest problem second to "attacks that cannot be avoided" god modding. It does fall down to a matter of biasness since there are not universal definitions for hitting, dodging, etc.

You also have to clarify the arena and the realm. I personally only stick to "realistic" type T1 where characters have above par human strength and rely mainly on weapons, movement, environmental usage, and technique. If the realm allows magic, sorcery, and abnormal powers the extent of god modding raises significantly, and all kinds of power distances are created.

We need at least 3 qualified judges every match to settle disputes.

There's more but I'll talk about it later when I get home.

I assume things will be based on T1-Moderate Powers. Sure there is higher risk of god modding than T1-Realistic Melee, but it provides far greater use of creativity and the battles are more entertaining in a closed tournament setting. I think T1-MP is best to start off with at least to get things going. As long as we don't go into T1-Powered characters with DBZ-like abilities I think god modding can be kept under decent control. It's when things like transformations and power ups come into play that things get out of hand.

I agree that there should be judges for each match though and that players accepting hits or not will probably be the biggest problem. People should always have a setup post before initiating direct attacks and power moves. Hypothetical attacks are usually helpful too: Stating what your character will do if a certain condition is met. Ex: *Jubei would quickly duck to evade his opponent's horizontal sword swing. In performing this successful dodge, he would then strike, thrusting his own sword upward with full force towards his opponents chest* In this instance the character's strike would only be initiated if the opponent were to go through with the horizontal strike and the character's dodge was successful.

Well, Terywj and I both agree that we would rather see original characters, but if you change them a LOT/write your own original backstories, I personally don't have any problem with you using them.

But seriously, we would really, really prefer original characters.

LOL @ Zen Itachi.

Nope! Single characters only.

We will probably use T1, if my definition of it is correct.

Hopefully people will work out who hits what (Terywj and I have already decided who wins our fight), but if any disputes, arguments, etc. happen, Terywj or I will settle them. The same goes for any godmodding, player-controlling, or other blatant rule-breaking that may appear.

We will say what is in the arena before every fight, but how to use it is up to the combatants. We will also have magic and stuff like that, but we will not allow any super powered **** like unavoidable lasers, don't worry.

Sogud.

The character I submitted originated from Toshiro from Bleach. He has a completely original story, look, and fighting technique however. The only thing that is the same is the ice element, use of an ice dragon, and flash step so I think it should be good.

I think I'll do the same. I've only ever participated in one RP and it was pretty shoddy, with no clearly defined point in playing.

Here.
This looks reeeeally intriguing and fun, but I'm in the same "never done this before/feel like a n00b" boat everyone's in. Now, I could break the mold and just do it, I mean, what's the worse that can happen? A slap on the wrist over the internet?

I'll probably come up with something in the next couple days.
