What's So Special About This Tourney?

A little about myself first...
I am RPGfan, I am the president of "Game Knights" a student organization at New Mexico State University (NMSU). I had organized a previous tourney to try to get us going, but since it was our first time, it didn't go so well... Anywho, we're back and I guarantee you it won't be the same. Why?
Because while we have a whole new crowd of dedicated Game Knights, I also decided to start some local Power Rankings. More info on the scoring system will come later. I think the The New Mexico Smash Community is fairly large, and I think we can at least establish some good power ranks. So anyone in the world may attend and have a chance for the pot, but only New Mexicans can get ranked in this tourney if they wish to.

I really don't think these rankings are going to fly with the albuquerque smashers and the NVGA...but good luck trying to convince them that this is legit

October is a decent amount away but make sure you're ready this time. You might wanna promote the tournament in other regions threads. Oh and as alphabravo said, we've had NM power rankings. To start a new one for the whole state won't work so easily. Maybe make an official one for LC first and we can have a battle some time between you all and alb best of luck with this tournament

how about this instead of nm power rankings start a whole new tournament series in las cruces

something like Las Cruces smash monthlies/weeklies/etc

assign points to winners at each tournament example 1st=8 points 2nd= 7 points etc.

call it the las cruces weekly rankings or something that way players in your area can compare themselves to others as well as have goals in order to improve their overall skill

having regular tournaments will help build your local smash scene and encourage more competition/fun

seems like a good idea, but IDK... rpgfan is pretty stubborn and doesnt really care what any Albuquerque smashers have to say...

Listen to those who have more experience in the scene then you. Alphabravo's suggestions are very solid. Or if anything, shadow, you can start hosting some. Just somewhere that won't have a venue fee

actually i had been talking with a friend of mine about hosting a tournament...
i know of this library that could lend us a pretty big room...
we were thinking of starting there

I never gave permission or anything ... I told you guys in texts that we had power rankings previously. And then i answered both of your questions as to who i thought was better and how to improve. But really alpha bravo is a seasoned vet and well respected in this community. I would take his advice to heart. And depending on school and money I'll go. But there has to be a turnout this time lol.

I know you probably didnt give him permission. Im just going by what he told me...
I told him that it was a horrible idea and he came up with something like " ive already talked and gotten permission from the twins and the albuquerque pros..." and he also said that you guys ASKED and INTERVIEWED him so he could get his own smashwiki profile >.>... he's probably gonna deny it but i have the txts locked on my phone to prove it when you guys come down...

i don't care about proof or anything. The whole NM powerrankings part is dumb. But an LC power ranking is a great idea. Your tournaments will start small but its something to work with. As a whole, the nm power rankings can't be officially decided by one tournament. It would take several tournaments with a panel to talk it out and decide who they feel goes where. No one person can say who is on top and make it official. Especially when they are claiming they are number one.

Look at it this way. Albuquerques top contenders for number one can never decide who truly is best.

And Sliraobe god says its TwinA who is the best.

None of them claim that they are without a doubt number one.

So please, there's my proof that Shadow is total bolony, and I beg for one more chance to prove myself to Alburquerque, and the rest of the smash community.

Also if you remember, Shadow was supposed to help me run the first tourney, but he was just walking around with his controller looking for someone to play. Not to say I did better, but at least I was trying to get everything together.

Thank you for that well stated post RPG. As I said in a previous one, I really could care less about the he said this and he said that part. i don't need proof that someone did or didn't do something. I am only looking at what is here now.

My bro and I are planning on coming to this just as long as it does not end how the last one was (also pending if I am in Denver that weekend lol). We just want to make sure that you don't expect a big turn out and have a low one. That would cause for the same issues as last time in terms of not being able to afford the venue fee as a TO.

If I am able to make it, and you need any assistance in running this, I would be more than happy to help out.

wasn't the last las cruces tourney horrible? i heard it ended early and there weren't cash prizes or something, but that's just my foggy memory of what I heard.

however, if there are cash prizes and a car going I'll try to get down there.

IDk, I'm not sure whether I wanna go to this or not. The ABQ Brawl scene is like <5 people lol, and we don't care to have an official PR because we mostly know already. If we get a car going, and there are cash prizes involved, I might go.

I do demand an apology from ShadowPhoenix, because no matter what his intentions might have been, he did try to humiliate me, and for no good reason. Just to prove to be right.
So until that happeneds I shall not talk to him.

It's more expensive than last time, but they're willing to allow sponsors to come in.
