Mewtwo's Match-Up Chart thread

As part of the Melee Match-Up Chart thread, I've created a thread for each character board to split up discussion. Currently the Melee chart is based on a collaborative opinion on each match-up, while we're going to slowly move towards spreading the discussion.

For now, the Melee Match-Up Chart will represent both sides of what the boards think, so for example, the Fox boards and the Falco boards will both have their respective opinions listed on the chart, so (for example) Fox may be 50:50, while Falco may be 55:45. This will be similar to Rajam's style for the current Brawl chart, which seems to be working well and staying accurate. Perhaps afterward, we can try to trim things down to one value for each match-up, but that will be a step in the future.

Currently, there is no order in which to discuss match-ups, but I may guide them if needed.

This topic is for Mewtwo's match-ups. The format is the standard 0-100 (including 5s). Any opinions are helpful and appreciated, and once there's a consensus for a match-up, I'll add it to the match-up chart.

Thanks.

Falco should be 40-60. The match-up isn't as bad as it used to be. Powershields, teleport mix-ups, tilts under lasers, directing the shield, combos, and clean edgeguards really help balance out the match-up. Falco has to beat the crap out of Mewtwo for the KO (not hard), but that's a lot of time for Mewtwo to work for that grab, and momentum can **** very easily from a good techchase.

Marth I think is 35-65, but I can accept a 30-70 for now.

Sheik is a 40-60. Both attackers are at a bit of a disadvantage in this match-up, but Sheik has the better projectile and can space aerials pretty well. Mewtwo can play a solid spacing game against Sheik though, and the edgeguards, tilt combos, and techchases help Mewtwo regain some of the lost percentage from Sheik's autocombos. Sheik does have guaranteed KOs from grabs at around 125+%, but that's a decent amount of time for Mewtwo to get Sheik to a KO percentage, too.

Puff is 25-75 I've only had success against Jiggs players that are stylish and aggressive, because I can finally play the cross-up game and that's the only time Jiggs is ever really vulnerable. King and Mango were the only Jiggs players that I've ever really had success playing against as M2. Most other Jiggs are much more annoying, because they don't want to approach and fight, and there's not much you can do about it and I have to really struggle to out space them. The ONLY strategy I could come up with for Hbox's Jiggs was to time him out, lol. I see absolutely no way I could beat him by conventional means. There are almost no openings for Mewtwo with that style, no stage position advantages, nothing at all.

I could agree with all the rest except G&W. I feel like I always misunderstand G&W because I don't play against him often, but then I realize how vulnerable he is and then I **** him. I almost want to say that it is slightly in M2's favor like 55-45, due to his horrible techs, but I need to research the match-up more so it is fine for now.

I'll go more into depth on the match-ups later.

MU thread is bout to throw down lol.

gw I can see in m2s favor. dj combo has a pimp *** gw but I think what I dislike about gw the most is the 2d part. his aerials are solid vs m2 tho. and dj combo is good at sdi out of nair. we can probably agree on 55-45 gw at least for now.

marth. I think that its still some bull **** if he starts trying to predict your movements, but on a big stage or high ceiling, can't get that kill. and I can honestly agree that sbs make him feel the need to take some sort of action. even his grab to f smash is a guessing game. get into his rhythm and you can avoid those. any thing spaced poorly is punishable. especially that wd backwards to grab if he hits the back of your shield with f smash or something.

puff, I haven't found traditional bair puffs to be that bad if you camp hard. ive also done aight at spacing the upsmash to catch the tip of puffs moves but ive never played hbox who is the king of that style and ive never played against mangos puff or the king. so I can understand how mewtwo just gets walled off. at this point I think m2 only gets anything vs that style if they make a mistake, lol so that doesn't count.

sheik, I know what you mean on fighting sheik when they try to go toe to toe wit the two. do you still think its 40-60 vs the purely defensive reactionary sheik?

falco lol. thats on you. but the tools to fight him are definitely there. and fd *****. its really just about execution. the opportunities will be there and its definitely possible for m2 to get off on falco.

and I feel like peach falcon ganon and others are harder than falco at times for sure.

I kinda think peach is harder than marth. peach punishes alot harder, and she is more likely to kill. although she can be camped and doesn't have much of an approach, she imo requires alot more precision to beat. she also benefits more on big stages because her recovery and later up throws.

what would you think about switching marth and peach?

Trust me on the Puff, lol. It's pretty bad. You can't go very offensive at all. If you reach, they teach by resting you. You have very few safe punishes, lol.

I stand by 40-60 Sheik. I did just fine against M2K, my matches vs. Plank and my match against Tec was pretty standard Sheik vs. M2. I just don't think it's that bad.

Further evidence now points to a more even match-up for Mewtwo vs. Yoshi. The match-up is theoretically more momentum heavy than I realized for M2 as a lot of the match can revolve around traded hits and Mewtwo's inferior priority.

It is possibly even a slight disadvantage for M2. I'll look into this a bit more, but I'm mostly just basing this off of the premise that Mewtwo can't actually toe-to-toe Yoshi.

so what are some gay ways puff can rest a m2? i imagine she'd be CC'ing stuff and then resting his tail or some stupid stuff like that...

i swear i'm not a puff player looking for tips vs mewtwo
