Getting Started

Definition

Riivolution is an on-the-fly game patcher for use with retail discs. It allows users to place content on their SD or USB devices, which will be read by the game

during regular play.

Riivolution can be used for custom textures, music, levels, memory patches, game translations, and more!
Download etc.

Download Riivolution:
http://rvlution.net/riiv/Riivolution
Extract the folder, then open.
Now copy the folder "riivolution" and paste it in the root of your SD card in "apps".

Patch Codes

For this tutorial we only need the patch codes from Super Smash Bros. Brawl and New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Brawl
Download this file: http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=9704
Create a new folder in the root of your SD card and name it "riivolution"
Save the .xml file in there!

NSMBW
Go here: http://rvlution.net/riiv/Patch_Templates

FAQ

Code:
 [B]Does Riivolution work with my "backups" or USB loaders?[/B]

No. And that's not a bug.

[B]Does Riivolution work with my PAL/NTSC/*** Wii/game?[/B]

Yes.

[B]What IOS does it need installed?[/B]

Riivolution requires an updated IOS37; if you're on System Menu 4.2 you should be good. If it's not installed or the proper version, it will be installed the first

time Riivolution is run.

Alternatively, you can also use NUSD or DOP-IOS to install it - with all patches disabled.

[B]Does Riivolution work with Game X?[/B]

I probably haven't played it, but yes, it should; try it. If it doesn't work, report it - some games known to reload IOS will require specific patches to work.

Games that have specifically been tested include Fatal Frame 4, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Rock Band, among others.

[B]What does the "Install" button do?[/B]

It will install a Riivolution channel onto your System Menu for easy access. This can always be uninstalled.

[B]Can I use Ocarina / Gecko codes with it?[/B]

Normally, Riivolution just supports direct memory patches. However, Riivolution supports a patching method that can be used with the Gecko OS code handler.

Read more about that [URL="http://rvlution.net/wiki/Ocarina_Codes"]here[/URL]

[B]Can I add new files to a disc with Riivolution?[/B]

Not yet.

[B]Uhh, how do I use this?[/B]

As a user, you need to either download patch packages made by someone else or make your own.

A basic template and packages for common games can be found at the [URL="http://rvlution.net/wiki/Patch_Templates"]Patch Templates[/URL] section. For a more detailed

explanation about Riivolution's patch XML files, check out the [URL="http://rvlution.net/wiki/Patch_Format"]instructions[/URL].

[B]Network support? Awesome, how do I use it?[/B]

Read more about all of Riivolution's [URL="http://rvlution.net/wiki/Network"]network features[/URL]. You can also check out our list of all the known

[URL="http://rvlution.net/wiki/List_of_RiiFS_servers"]public Riivolution servers.[/URL]

Create own .brstm files

Download the tool:
http://blog.dantarion.com/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=8

Extract the folder and start bcsm-gui
Click Add... and then add to queue
Choose you .mp3 files which you want to convert
Now click convert to brstm.

When the program says "finalizing BRSTM", you can close the converter.
You can find your new .brstm file under: bcsm-guiv1.5>Library
Just rename it into XXX.brstm and save it under /strm

Ocarina Codes

Downloade this:
http://www.mediafire.com/?1wzjgzokzdf

I´ve uploaded that file, you can find in there my RSBP01.gct, the .xml and the .bin file for ocarina codes.

Save the .xml and the .bin in the root of your SD card under /riivolution

Save "RSBP01.gct" in the root of your SD card under /codes
Following codes are there:
-Allow replays are longer than three minutes
-unregisted camera code
-Tags in replays

You can also use ur own .gct file.

Start Riivolution.
Angle "Ocarina Handler" to "AxNextFrame Hook" and "Codes" to "enabled".
dort stellt ihr Ocarina Handler auf AxNextFrame Hook

Codemanager

To create your own RSBP01.gct you need the Codemanager, download the tool here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?tbn2yygjmtu

Open Codemanager and go to "open txt file"
Now open your .txt file, to activate codes just click on the blank beside the codename
Now create a new folder in the root of your SD card and name it /codes
Back to Codemanager click on export to gct>store to file
Save your file in the /codes folder and name it RSBP01.gct

Hear .brstm files on a computer

Download BrawlBox: http://brawltools.googlecode.com/files/BrawlBox v0.63d.zip
Go to file>open and open your .brstm file
Click play to hear the music

Result Sounds

This function equal like music hacks.
The files are saved in: private/wii/app/RSBP/pf/sound/strm and are saved as .brstm
List how you have to name your files:
Code:
Z01=Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser
Z02=Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong
Z03=Link, Toon Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf
Z04=Samus, Zero Suit Samus
Z05=Yoshi
Z06=Kirby, King D³
Z07=Fox, Falco, Wolf

So... now you can do things like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLzGSSc93Fk
(The video is old, now you can make many more things anytime...)

New Super Mario Brothers Wii

I use PAL.

Smashville won't work for me unless I put the _en in. Well, that's odd lol :/

My language in Brawl is German so I changed all "en" to "de" which works for me.
It seems like that, depending on the language you use, you have to change all "en" to "de" for German, I guess "fr" for French, "es" for Spanish, "it" for Italian and so on (as for other languages than German and English it's just a guess).

Great Guide Michi, thanks for the help!

I have a question for you however. I'm new to the whole Mod scene and am having problems adding hacked textures and custom CSP, Battle portaits etc.

I have loaded Balanced brawl 2 (For PAL) through Riivolution and that works fine. When I added Bbrawl to my SD card it automatically adds the private/wii/apps etc. folder. I can add the custom textures no problems. However when I disable Bbrawl, all my textures etc don't work.

I have tried copying the exact private/wii/apps etc folder that I used with Bbrawl but it still doesn't work. Where do I copy the private/wii/apps folder too in the SD card? Do I need to put it in the Riivolution folder or in the root of the SD card?

In relation too your guide for hacking the textures, you mention downloading the "patch codes". What do they do, and do I need them? Like I said above, I never downloaded "patch codes" and it worked fine through Bbrawl.

TL:dr - Where do I put the private/wii/apps etc folder on the SD card and what does the "Patch codes" do and do I need them?
