Hi, everyone. This thread is for those interested in getting into the BBR. In case you've forgotten, instructions are listed again.

You will apply here. Details on what to post are below. At the deadline, the thread will be closed, I'll review over EVERYONE'S applications, and give my thoughts on who's a good candidate or not to the governing body of the BBR. They will ALSO review the list and run final admissions.

Membership Application/Questions

Qualifications:
The Brawl Back Room is a forum meant to encourage intelligent discussion in the topics of metagame, tournament rules, and national/international scale tournament organization. While this means there is an emphasized priority on accepting top players and/or prominent TO's, we are not necessarily exclusive to those people only. If you demonstrate strong discussion/debate skills, willingness to experiment for the creation and improvement of suggested tournament rules, deep insight into the workings of the game, or any combination of those, you could have a good chance of making it in. If you believe you are qualified to become a member and wish to become one, please post here with your name, any description of yourself and possibly links to some of your posts as good examples of what you might contribute to the BBR, and answers to the questions below.

Questions:
1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I believe I may have a shot at this. I'll work on mine and edit this later.

Edit: Alright, here we go.

My name is Mr. Doom, get it right. I'm not Doom, because there already is a Doom at the East Coast. Anyway, I hail from Wichita, KS. I live about two hundred miles south the center of the United States of America, if you don't include Alaska and Hawaii.

The one game I'd definitely keep playing is Doom95 for windows. Hence the name Mr. Doom. I have created about 60 levels for the game Doom. You can check them out at my youtube account: http://www.youtube.com/MrDoom8000

I guess it's time to answer some questions.

Questions:
1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I just recently became a tournament host. Both of my tournaments that I ran were successful. Basically, what I do is allow for a lot of friendlies, money matches, etc., before the actual tournament begins. If time isn't an issue, I'm pretty lenient on when matches are played. However, if time is an issue, I won't hesitate to disqualify people, even top players in the region. I don't believe my tournaments are different from any other tournament ran.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

The part of Brawl I know most about is my character: Ike. I have stuck with him since two months after the game came out. Since then, I have been trying to learn about Ike so that whenever tourney time comes, I'll be ready to take on anyone.

I've messed around with custom music as well. I've even wrote a basic formula that allows me to convert from standard time to bits, and since then, I have been able to perfectly loop music that has loop points. Anything that has to do with numbers, I believe I'm decent at it.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I usually attend tournaments about twice a month, with a standard deviation of 1 tournament. I am very familiar with the local competitive scene. The last two tournaments I ran drew in a lot of unfamiliars who thought they were good but, in reality, were not. I know some people from Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Texas as well. Going to regionals mean traveling at least 6 hours total. I haven't been to any national tournaments, but I plan to attend MLG Dallas.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

My overall performance is top 10. But in doubles, I've been taking top 3. Below are the three most recent tournaments I've participated in.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Reshiram all the way. Though I am curious as to why you didn't ask which fully evolved starter. I can't wait to get Pokémon White. (I know Reshiram is on the Black version, but I'd rather get White.)

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

What I would think would be wild is if everyone has SDI as horrible as mine. I will discuss about how SDI changes the matchup significantly. Also, I noticed that a lot of people whine about stages and that they should be banned. However, I don't see the whiners ever playing on the stages. I may also discuss stage gimmicks.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Right now, I don't have much meat on my skin, but I did post my tidbits on Ike's matchup chart.

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11190931&postcount=272

Oh, I almost forgot. My contribution of Ike vs Wolf.

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11236949&postcount=22

And I even forgot that I wrote a small guide on Ike vs Kirby. But that's horribly out-dated if you're still interested.

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=9183304&postcount=2

I don't usually talk about SDI unless it's through PMs, but I have a small demonstration and a couple videos on YouTube showing how bad my SDI sucks. I also have other vids on messing around with Ike.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCBVyKKyuZs (b-air and d-air practice)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajbq-DgZP-o (quick draw practice)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxvxY0MWJuw (this one's over a year old. Basically stalling with Ike on Norfair.)

SDI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgDF4YyFUBI (Montage 3)

And that is all, I believe.

Somewhat light description of me:

I'm a hoosier going to Purdue University. I live in Indianapolis, IN. I have been into Smash in general since 64 came out. I was really competitive in Melee but had no scene here to really go to. Brawl came out and that changed, with wifi and several tournaments popping up in Indy.

I main Wario, and I'm mostly known for my bike tricks and skills.

Questions:
1. How are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?:

Tournaments in my area are run in a reasonable fashion both in time and fairness. At other times it may seem TO's make it difficult to see what is or isn't going on behind the scenes, simply because they try so hard to get large-based tournaments done in a flash (from my experience this can be exemplified from both School is in Session 3 and ISA 2, and maybe even MLG, though that was a given . . .) The unique thing is that they try to get as many setups as possible and hype as possible and get tournaments done in a single night. This can be taken as good or bad. I'm primarily in favor of it, but at the same time there could be some improvements with simple "staff" management and priorities.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes?:

I'm a Wario main. I also second Pit for sure now.

For the most part, I'm pretty well rounded in knowledge of the entire cast, but at the same time my bias may limit me to Wario MU experience and soon Pit MU experience. However, I am always willing to try new characters that I see little representation in sometimes. Other times, I look into the less-overrrated top characters like Olimar, Dedede, and Game and Watch.

I'm always looking for something new in this game. I learn something new everyday, even after two years of playing this game practically. At the same time, I love gathering information for myself and others to help in certain strategies and MU's. Mindsets and thought processes are a given with my theorycraft when giving or taking advice.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attend tournaments somewhat regularly. I wish I could attend more, but I stay on top of the scene in the local sense. Regionals I've entered a couple times, and the national one I've entered so far (MLG Columbus).

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I usually place top 10 or better in most events, save ISA 1 and 2, and MLG...

Also, I am ranked 1st on the IN/KY PowerRankings.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Both are really cool. I want to reserve judgement until I've actually played them. I'm playing through white first now, so I guess I'll say Zekrom since he does look infinitely more cooler and awesome. Reshiram is so fluffy and epic looking though... Keep that in mind!

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I guess the main things I want the BBR to look into/work on is the tier list adjustment rules and the nature of the matchup discussions. I don't think much about the tier list honestly except that it may very well be biased based on player results rather than the actual options of the character. I DO however like discovery of character moves and strats that haven't been seen yet, and being able to implement that into the ranking of each character.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

- I am neither a current host or co-host, but I've assisted with the maintenance of seeding and bracket procedures in the past, including but not limited to Melee tournaments. I am also in the process of reviving my local scene in order to increase our numbers and will then begin to host tournaments of my own (I am moderately experienced with using TIO and will continue to learn as I go).

- The tournaments in my area are ran very well despite the temporarily decreasing activity due to retirements and school. They differ from the norm because we often use at least two or three stages that are not often used anymore, even around the rest of the Midwest.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

- The part of Brawl I know the most about is specific character matchups, with an abundance of stage knowledge as well. I specialize in Peach because I've mained her for a long time and have experienced many different scenarios with her. I am also quite familiar with the capabilities of the rest of the cast, including the not as explored cast of the bottom half of mid and low tier characters. I'm also beginning to pick up on frame knowledge more and more. As far as mindset content goes: I often make posts and/or construct what some would call "motivational speeches" with the intent of drilling a sense of constant urgency and the limiting of unnecessary cockyness of players during matches in order to increase their odds of excelling. In short, I am a player who loves to teach others while always keeping an open mind to facts I may not have known already, and the willingness to test said facts before making any sort of agreement or rebuttal.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

- I attend tournaments as often as I can, at least twice to three times a month if monetarily able. I am very familiar with my local scene as well as my entire state's scene. I am also a panelist for the Ohio Power Rankings which prompts me to have extensive knowledge on the individual performance and capabilities of every active player in the state.

- I am also familiar with my regional scene (being MW:E) and have been keeping up with the MW:W players as much as possible. On a national level I am quite familiar with the names and capabilities of the top level players, the up-and-coming players, and the players who have amazing accomplishments even if said accomplishments happen to be old, new, spread out, or otherwise under the radar.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

- My overall tournament performance is fairly good, character usage expectations aside. I place an average of 5th-7th with the occasional 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 9th; so all within top 10. At larger, regional level tournaments I place an average of 17th. The two national tournaments I've been to (Pound 4 and MLG Columbus) I placed 49th and I believe 95th, respectively.

-- These results are taken straight from the Peach tournament results thread.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

- Reshiram, definitely.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would like the BBR to look more into the details of the lesser explored characters in the game; seeing as some of their weekly character discussions, despite being rushed, were rather lacking in some of the juicier aspects. I believe I may be able to help change this for the better.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=11268913#post48

- My post on the Peach vs Falco matchup (a little more of an emotional method than usual, but the main point of my post was to address the philosophy of Peach needing the remain strictly on the ground in order to effectively combat Falco, which I found to be untrue)

- My Post on Mario Circuit, Counterpick stages in general, and Metaknight's affiliation with them
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=10591459#post171

- I believe I can bring something viewed as somewhat common but not unnecessary to the table...a fresh new perspective, another welcomed possibility of an idea that may become an epiphany during the discussions back there, and another active and open mind from the Brawl community that is ready and willing to both teach to and learn from like-minded and opposing individuals alike.

- I do hope I am considered eligible to contribute to and be a part of the Brawl Back Room. Thank you for reading this.

Well, I figured it'd be worth a shot. I'm Rapture (of vVv Gaming, of course). I'm a resident of NW Connecticut, but lived in Long Island for 13 years of my life. I'm currently in my senior year of high school, writing for the school newspaper, playing ice hockey and tennis, etc.

I started playing games competitively with Pokemon and moved into tons of genres and eventually settled with Halo, Gears of War, Pokemon and Smash Bros. I'm vVv Rapture on Xbox Live, some random numbers on my Wii, vVvRapture on Aim and rapture@vvv-gaming.com in terms of email. Sort of a pattern going on there.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I am not a tournament host or co-host, though I've been rather interested in being a TO as of late. Unfortunately, due to finances, time restraints and age being a factor, I have been unable to do so.

In terms of tournaments I've attended in my area, it definitely ranges. I've been to tournaments both in my state, Connecticut and the previous state I lived in, New York. The New York tournaments have given me an odd view into the world of tournaments that I hadn't seen in other games: cramped spaces, tons of people, but all focused on doing the same thing and loving every bit of it. I never got a negative view on the true tournament side of things, even though some aspects were quite less than ideal (aka space, scheduling, etc.) There's definitely things to improve, but everything is not without its flaws.

On the Connecticut side, I've attended larger tournaments to smaller ones hosted at my school. I've seen more unique things in Connecticut, which is odd considering that CT seems to have less Brawl tournaments than most states. There are number of differences, namely in rules (ie: Viva La Smash III banning Metaknight). Overall, however, things are generally the same or, in a better choice of words, consistent. I still got that same feel the NY tournaments gave me, which is good. The community keeps that same vibe of loving the game they play, no matter what it takes to play it or where exactly they do so.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

The things I know most about are stages. Stages have always interested me since they are almost, if not just as, important as the characters we use to play the game, so much so that we have a whole system dedicated to their usage. Ever since I started playing the game competitively I've always found researching the ins and outs of stages very interesting. This is probably why I tend to feel comfortable on most stages when I play, since I know a lot about most, if not all, of them.

Because of this, I've dedicated a lot of my time to learning the stages and learning the philosophy of banning some of them. I spent a good amount of time testing Big Blue to find if it is truly a ban-worthy stage or not; not to make it legal, but to understand why exactly it was banned. My original post on this can be found here: http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=10914804&postcount=85 and you can follow the rest of that discussion by just continuing on from that post.

Along with that, I've also begun pushing the concept of custom stages in competitive play, including creating a rather active topic on the idea of it: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=283982

This also spurred the creation of a group on the forum dedicated to the creation of custom stages, but it recently was deleted (why, I don't know, I was not the one who had made the group). The start of school put a halt to my creating, but I still get back to making more stages along this train of thought. In the meantime, I also do a lot of work in Halo: Reach's Forge World (currently in the middle of recreating Alinos Gateway and Harvester from Metroid Prime Hunters, Derelict and Hang 'Em High from Halo: Combat Evolved and two of my own original maps, Infinity Falls and Cliff Diver).

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

Unfortunately, I haven't attended a huge amount of tournaments or as much as I've liked to. I have attended tournaments in both Connecticut and New York, but not many and not with stellar results. Due to just not being able to go (location, financial, school, age johns), my tournament appearances have been very lackluster, so instead I try to concentrate on whatever I can do from my own home or with friends.

I'm actually more familiar with the Long Island scene than anything else, since I've attended more tournaments in that area than in any other. I've become good friends with guys like Cheese, Will and Punishment Divine after meeting them here, at tournaments and through other projects. At the same time, since LI has a more active Brawl tournament scene than Connecticut does, there is a lot more for me to follow there and, thus, that is what I do.

Along with that, I definitely do follow the national scene of Brawl. Not only do I follow the biggest tournaments of the year, but also the ones that are OOS but still relevant (like, for example, ones that Will goes to so I can root for him and his DK xD). Overall, I'm always keeping tabs on the national scene and this is mostly because of how it impacts my understanding of the competitive scene as a whole. For example, a tournament that had rather interesting results on a particular stage spurs my attention to what exactly that stage affected to create those results.

Besides that, I just enjoy being involved on everything that is going on throughout the nation, especially because of all the people I know and am connected to being from different parts of the continent and the like.

As for the world, I'd definitely love to learn more about it...well, the competitive scene of it. xD I just don't seem to be very knowledgeable on the scenes outside of the US, though I've, as of late, been learning more about the Japanese and European competitive scenes over the summer (thanks in part to Apex hype!).

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Zekrom. Not only is his typing vastly superior to that of Reshiram's, but the fact that he essentially has an airplane engine as a tail pretty much defines him as a ******. Though, I'd rather get Black Version, I definitely want Zekrom over Reshiram.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would have to say the usage of custom stages for competitive play, as there is a ton of hidden potential in the seemingly endless amount of creations that can be forged by the community. Considering how much the stages of the game are so important to competitive play, the fact that we have a manipulative tool to fix problems like not having enough neutral stages or having more non-gimmicky stages is a huge benefit for all of us.

I would also like to see the BBR take on a more authoritative role in the Smash community to provide consistency between regions in terms of rules, as I've always felt that the differences of play between each region of the community is drastically unnecessary.

Finally, I would like to see the BBR take a more active role in establishing matchups between characters, as it seems like way too many characters lack a ton of info on many of their matchups and all this does is create a hassle when things need to get done or be researched.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

In terms of contributions...

My post concerning the legality of Big Blue, which I linked earlier in this application, but will link again. The author of the thread, Sunshade, said he'd use some of it in the OP, but I guess never got around to it:

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=10914804&postcount=85

My thread on the usage of custom stages in competitive play. I'd also link to this the group on custom stages, which had some stages I had created for competitive usage, but this was deleted =/:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=283982

Not sure how much of a contribution this is, but it's a thread I made long ago against the notion of people not really doing much to prove how good their character supposedly is:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=272910

But...here is definitely a pretty good contribution. I took over the DK Board's results thread and recreated it, as it now has both the results of everything prior to 2010 and 2010 itself. In fact, I just updated it today! You can find it here:

Along with all of that, I am also the host and editor of Directional Influence, the podcast dedicated only to Smash Bros. I'm sure you've heard of it. =P I host the show along with Will and Punishment Divine and we're currently 4 episodes in, which doesn't sound like a lot (and I know it isn't), but we've already gotten a ton of positive feedback on AllisBrawl and on the vVv Gaming site (vVv Gaming hosts the show on their podcast site) and we've had some pretty awesome guests on the show thus far, including Vermanubis, Ninjalink and Mikehaze.

You can keep tabs on the show at the vVv podcast site, http://www.vvvgaming.podbean.com, as well as my Twitter page: @vVvRapture and our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=630997974#!/group.php?gid=155284337830961&ref=ts

In terms of what I would bring to the BBR, I believe I'd bring the talent of a skilled debater and intellect to discussions (I'm not in the Debate Hall for nothing...or so I hope!...and speaking of which, you can check my posts at the Debate Hall for my debate contributions there if you feel it is necessary) that encompass the major areas of our competitive scene. I can bring a lot of knowledge to stage discussions, as well as those on the rules we play with. Also, with my work in podcasting (both in Directional Influence and my time on other podcasts), I feel like I can definitely connect with the voices of the community outside of the BBR, both on observation and my actual interactions with them, especially from podcast interviews.

I can also bring to the table the side of the business aspect of competitive gaming, as I am (obviously) part of vVv Gaming, which started its venture in Smash with the inclusion of dmbrandon and Shadow into our ranks and that has grown substantially, as we now have many a skilled Brawler, including Mew2King. Though I do not know how much of my experience with working in the sponsorship relations between company and players or managing the vVv Smash Division for quite some time (Mikehaze now fills this position) will be of use to the BBR, if it is needed it is certainly a welcome aspect of my inclusion if this were to be the case.

Overall, what I can bring to the table is substantial. When I truly know the topic, I have a way with words, and there's nothing stopping me from researching something I don't know much about to the highest extent.. I may not be attending the most tournaments or being an expert at all the characters, but when it comes to other aspects of the game, especially stages, I'm very knowledgeable and willing to let others pick my brain.

Thanks for reading and considering and I hope it is all enough to gain membership to the BBR, a position I would truly utilize and appreciate to the fullest.

OK, time to do this.

Hello, my name is Poltergust. I'm a Yoshi main who moved from Miami, FL, to Austin, TX, just last month. I currently go to University of Texas, and I am a student under the College of Undergraduate Studies (although I'm working towards getting accepted into the College of Natural Sciences to study Computer Science).

I've been playing Smash ever since Smash 64, but I did not go competitive until October of 2008. I've been maining Yoshi for over 2 years now, and I know much about my character and his match-ups. Apparently, I'm the most successful Yoshi main in the country.

One more thing, I'm Poltergust, not Poltergeist. I hate it when people get my name wrong; it happens far too often. =)

OK, now onto the questions.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

No, the only tournament that I have ever hosted was all the way back in 2008, and it was then when I realized that I'm not cut out for tournament hosting. Back in Florida, tournaments in SFL were usually hosted by other Smash players in LAN centers, and the tournaments I went to in CFL were usually ran by Next Level LAN. I've only been to two Texas tournaments so far, but they were held in an amusement center and a restaurant respectively.

The tournaments I've been to usually finish on time, even with friendlies being abundant. I know some pretty good TOs.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I know all about Yoshi. I know how fast his moves come out, what moves I should use to counter other characters' moves, spacing, etc. However, I also know quite a bit about most of the other characters, too. I learn through experience, so if I face a character enough times I'm able to figure out how they are supposed to be played. Also, since I just moved to Texas, I'm learning about a lot of new characters, such as Toon Link, Sonic, and Lucario.

I'm the kind of guy who values data such as weight, frame data, kill percentages, and such. I can be very analytical when it comes to character match-ups, both when discussing them and playing them. I am not a dumb player: I talk about things I know about, but I don't get involved in subjects that are mostly foreign to me (although I'm always willing to learn).

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I try to attend tournaments as often as I can, which usually means about 3 times a month. However, my mobility in Texas is limited due to me not having a car anymore, but I'll make due.

I already know pretty much everyone in Texas. It helped that people got to know me when I attended WHOBO2 earlier this year. I know what players are the ones to beat, and am fully confident that I can join them.

I haven't gotten to know the rest of the Southwest since I just moved, but it'll happen in due time. Back when I lived in Florida, I was very familiar with most people in the Southeast. Now that I'm living in Texas, I'm going to get to know a lot more about the region surrounding me, so that's going to be cool.

As for nationwide, I'm not too knowledgeable about everyone, but that is that is to be expected. I know who the good players are, I know who they main, and I even know some of them personally. I hope to attend more OoS tournaments during my college career. I'm looking forward to MLG DC in particular.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I almost always place within the top 8, although I believe I may be getting better placings as of late. As for doubles, I don't do too well in them usually, but I believe that's just due to having an incompatible partner. I most recently teamed with Bored (an Ike main) and did very well in doubles, so we'll see how that goes.

Also, I'm currently #104 on the "Official SWF Brawl Rankings List," but I'm not sure how much you guys pay attention to that. I'm just throwing it out there, though.

Here are, what I believe, my seven most recent tournament results, which include 3 Florida tournaments, 3 Texas tournaments (I didn't have much in August due to me moving and adjusting to college life), and the most recent MLG tournament:

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Whatever new Pokemon there is in Pokemon Grey.

But seriously, I like Reshiram better. It just looks cooler and has a better name, in my opinion. Both look pretty awesome, though.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I believe we should take another look into the time-out rule more. Now, I am not saying that timing out is not a legitimate way to win a match, but I think the criteria for winning via time out should change. I'm not sure how, but I really want an in-depth look into how we could improve it.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I've helped a lot with the match-up discussions we are currently doing in the Yoshi boards, and with the Yoshi match-up discussion on other boards. People tend to agree with what I put up in the match-up, although our ratios may differ. Here are some examples of how I contributed to these match-up discussions:

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11155475&postcount=11
Yoshi vs. Captain Falcon (in the Yoshi vs. Captain Falcon thread in the Yoshi boards)

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11181753&postcount=162
Yoshi vs. Diddy Kong (in the Yoshi vs. Diddy Kong thread in the Yoshi boards)

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11334340&postcount=165
Yoshi vs. Falco (in the Yoshi vs. Falco thread in the Yoshi boards)

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11212482&postcount=19
Kirby vs. Yoshi (in the Yoshi export thread in the Kirby boards)

We are still discussing the other match-ups, so I'll help contribute to those as well.

Other than match-up discussion, I believe that I also help to promote Yoshi's image with the people who main him and the people who don't. I'm glad to help people understand Yoshi better. I want all misconceptions to be cleared up from him (which is why you see me correct people a lot whenever they talk about Yoshi). I also encourage the other Yoshi mains to have faith in him. I cringe whenever I see "Yoshi" and "sucks" in the same sentence, because, in my opinion, a (what is supposed to be) mid-tier character does not suck.

I'm also happy to lend a hand to anyone who needs it. Not once have I ever lashed out or flamed someone because they were in the wrong or needed help.

Finally, when I decide something I always have full confidence in what decision I make. I believe that my knowledge of the metagame, the game mechanics, and Yoshi would make an excellent addition to the BBR.

Thank you. ^_^

Hi there, this is rPSI. I'm a Lucas main from NC. I'm most known as the Smash Lab leader and revivalist of the group.
1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
Sadly, I am not a host or co-host. My age, as I am a Junior in HS, really bogs it down. I do however talk frequently with a local TO named Foxy. I've helped to set-up infinite replays and other such elementary hacks for aethstetic gameplay. Managing such has really helped me get a first-hand view of how hectic some of the practices of hosting a tournament can be.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
I definitely look into the physics and frame data the most. I have a lot of qualification within that field and know much more than the average smasher. I also know a lot about Lucas and techniques he can utilize, and all about his moveset. I also generally like to think I know a lot about most of the characters in Brawl too.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I don't get to attend tournaments that often and usually have to leave by the time the brackets are going. This usually leads to me having to forfeit during brackets... I hate my strict curfue. :<
I am however more recently been able to go to more tournaments and plan on doing so soon.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
In tournament, it's generally not that well, with combination of bad luck and not being able to go to many I don't really have results...
edit: (lol sorry to abuse mod powers as of late) but I recently got 3rd out of 16 in low tiers at an NCSU tournament. Link to results: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=290274
5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Cyan
6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
Definitely analyzing ledge potential and delving deeper into how the LGL and other measures affect tournaments and such.

Hi, I'm Dark Horse, a 13 year old from philadelphia. I'm a very brief person, so this'll be brief (compared to some people, like vVv rapture).

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
I've hosted a couple of tournaments in the OTL. The tourneys are unique, just probably too extreme (except for #s 1 and 4, a tourney using standard OTL rules and a test of the BBR ruleset ver. 3.1, respectively.
2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
Stages. Probably because the I lack knowledge of several characters, and just know more about stages.
3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I "attend" tournaments in the OTL. besides that, meh.
4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
Not that good :(. I can't show you results, as OTL tournaments only show the top 4.
5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Zekrom all the way man.
6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
I think it would be interesting to see how normally called "non-competitive" stages would work out in the brawl metagame (not extreme ones, like Mario bros. Stuff such as PS2 and Onett, which aren't usually legal).

Also, trying stuff like 7-minute timer and 2 stock (basically, things that go against traditional ruleset, and seeing how that works out could be cool.
7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room
I have some stuff. Hold on, I'll find it.

Edit: PS2 Analysis.

Pirate Ship analysis

Green greens analysis

PS1 analysis

These where stage mechanic analysis tests I did a while back. They might have convinced some people for their opinion on a stages legality.

I'm also a member of the social group "Toon Link's stages", which is how to play on that stage and the like with toon link.

I also listen to the public (wether I agree with them or not is a different story), and is not biased when thinking whether a stage should be legal or wether _____Should go up or down on the tier list.

I'm surprised this wasn't a question, but I have two reasons why I want to join the BBR:

1. I've always wanted to help with deciding what competitive brawl is. Making rules, creating the tier list, etc etc. (sorry if the "etc etc." sounds rude, as I don't know if what I said is all of what the BBR does)
2. We TL mains need somebody in the BBR.

A long time ago, when I lived in Florida and before I moved to the NYC region, I would host small tournaments and smashfests in my home because honestly the scene was very small. These aren't of any consequence and would probably be known as "scrub tournaments."

I live in the NY/NJ region and I'm pretty new to it. So far, my feeling is that the tournaments here are run by a tightly-knit community of friends who have an rule set they enjoy and like (but is hypocritical and a bit flawed in a few ways, as has been discussed many times before on these forums). However, the tournaments are also pretty tightly run and professional, finishing at a decent time. Tournament results are fairly versatile and varied these days (although Florida had even more varied results).

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
I'm sort of a combination of all of these things. First and foremost, I know Zero Suit Samus pretty well. I'm definitely a decent ZSS player, and I'm slowly becoming even better (I have a few good players as practice partners in the city) although I am by no means a prominently placing tournament player. However, on a technical level, I know a lot about her; many of the strategies and tips I find are used frequently by the best Zero Suit players in the country, including Nick Riddle, Dazwa, and Snakeee who all have used my techniques and findings and who I am in pretty regular conversation with.

With that said, I am also familiar with much of the cast, especially more obscure characters (who interest me more, I'm just that kind of guy) like Pit, Fox, Peach, Ness, and others. I am not as versed in low tier characters, but this is pretty common knowledge by now. ;)

My strongest asset as a contributor to the BBR as far as things directly related to the game is going to be that I am able to implement new techniques into my game very quickly and am always finding interesting things myself. (I don't think this is my strongest asset; more on this below.) I am directly responsible for the discovery of weak glide tossing, ZSS' dash attack locks, etc. This is all mostly because I have the ability to count frames by sight (without the help of debug mode).

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I don't attend as often as I'd like (money johns, at the moment) but I am always trying to be more active. My local tourney scene, it depends... some guys have no idea who I am, and some will. I have met and am comfortable with speaking to a lot of the local players here (like Will, BUM, Minty, Cheese, Inui, others) but some will still ask who the hell I am on the forums sometimes. Note that I'm not offering these names as references or anything, I'm just trying to convey that I don't know everyone yet. =)

Regionally and nationally I always pay a lot of attention and watch streams whenever possible. If I can't make it, I'm calling my friends who are there asking for updates and asking for insight. =)

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
Hmm... my tournament results are not very good around here. In Florida, they were better (that was a long time ago) but this region is very strong and competitive, and I tend to get bracket-***** (put up against power ranked players in round 1). A few times I"ve managed mid-level placings like 25/50 and 20/40 (that sort of thing) but nothing stellar.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Darc.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
If you asked me this question a few months ago I might have had more to say, but I feel the BBR is moving in a very progressive direction that is overall good for the game's health and the community. I like the amount of communication (and recognize that it isn't always possible to have up-to-the-minute updates), I like the tier list finally losing some "sacred cows," I like the progressive and thoughtful rule set (even though I didn't agree with everything, it showed that you guys were thinking and not just regurgitating the same stuff that was already there). Overall, I just like that the BBR is looking into things they might not have even thought about before and acting on them. It's really refreshing to see.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
I'm not really sure what this question wants, but I'll link a few things I've done in the past for the ZSS community.

First of all, I wrote the book on how she's played (a liiiittle outdated right now, getting to that soon):
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=238787

Here is my Dash Attack Locking guide (and the thread that lead to it's creation). I had a lot of help with this from FadedImage:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=235429

I also found Weak Glide Tossing with the help of Jihnsius and another guy whose name I can't remember anymore (he never posts). I can't find that thread.

Otherwise, I think I bring a lot of patience and critical thinking to the BBR. I am calm, reasonable, diplomatic, and intelligent. I have different opinions sometimes but try to be open to new ideas, strategies, and concepts. I tend to represent the other side of things and am definitely do not have a "yes man" attitude about anything. I believe that even if I am not the ideal candidate now, I can be in the future and hope to help contribute to the community as much as possible.

Hello I'm a pit main. I've been playing brawl competitively for about a year. Tries to gather much information on brawl in general and share it to local friends and boost moral.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

No. I haven't attempted many as of late. The main difference in the rules where my tournament is located is that of staling. Excessive stalling on the ledge is allowed only if the opponent is in range of a punishable return. Seems fair imo but may have loop holes of near ledge camping.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I try to learn the out most of brawl. The developers have very unique ideas that are not harmful to test. I specialize in pit and hope on finding a set metagame for the character. Its much easier finding other character metagames which are interesting to learn and test. I don't only go into physical data, but try to calculate viable mindgames and frame traps.
Pits frame data:

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

Sadly I haven't entered any tournaments do to work and other busy schedules before. Recently went to a tournament with a 5 min rule which heavily changes strategy. I keep track of what is going on at mlg's and locals mainly to share the info with others less informative of the subject.

Edit: I recently entered my first mlg ruleset tourney at seige. 33/ 103 is my placing with pit only.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Basically from above, was my first tournament. I was able to read how I played do to pressure and that I was nervous. I can take note still as, I can share the experience with others and improve from there.
Didn't do to well.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Reshiram, because If I predict the abilities. Reshiram looks psychic and Zekrom looks dark. Both are dragon but I personally favor psychics . They usually have high special defence and special attack. Better fits my playing style.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I found it interesting how peirce mentioned that captain falcons speed with dash shield was a good approach through walls from your opponent. I would like to find how all the characters would fair on their base abilities of getting past common setups.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past;
what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Asides from pits frame data:

I have brawl PSA's that I can use to gather information. I also have coding to visually help frame wise.
me random posting some info:

I had an old thread with auto canceled specials. It died long ago I think.

Where my tournament hosts at?
Oh hey, I have arrived.

I am currently one of four tournament hosts for Super Smash Bros. Halifax, which is THE Smash scene for Nova Scotia. (Canada)

I've been hosting tournaments for about 6 months now. I have hosted 8 small biweekly tournaments, and hosted/co-hosted 2 large tournaments. (which by our standards, constitutes 30+) Just recently (yesterday) I co-hosted what I THINK might be the biggest Brawl tournament in Canada, at 69 entrants. I don't know for sure, but I've heard most other regions of Canada get about 30, usually.

Our tournaments are QUITE different from the norm (though I wish they weren't), because we actually run a ruleset VERY similar to the 3.1 ruleset, and we have been doing so since before that ruleset was announced. Prior to its official announcement, I experimented with adding starters and additional counterpicks. Moving from 5 to 7, then 9 starters (with PS2 as a starter), and adding stages like Port Town and Green Greens.

Currently, and probably most controversially (in the eyes of the mainstream metagame), our community has made the decision to create a MK-banned metagame. We were in the initial stages of people beginning to switch over to MK after facing difficulties with their mains, and I, seeing the coming storm, proposed that we experiment with testing an MK-banned biweekly tournament.

The biweekly proceeded quite well, and was favorably received by those who attended. With this in mind, we polled our community, and following a 63% vote in favor of the ban, decided to move forward and ban the character.

We currently are enjoying a healthy metagame where our top 8 placing characters RARELY have a duplicate, and we're able to enjoy a more liberal stagelist without fear of abusive tactics like planking. It's a decision that I DO not regret making, and I intend to write further on this topic and present a report to the tactical forum in the future.

I'm also currently entertaining the idea of adding custom stages to the roster to expand the different types of stages available.

The thing I am most proud of regarding our tournaments is our willingness to experiment with different stages and rulesets, given sufficient grounds to do so.

Edit (October 20th)

I'm happy to announce that Smash Nova Scotia is holding our first tourney in our SNOBOT series. (being the first major tourney under our council of 4 TOs)

Why is this tourney unique? A few reasons:

1) MK is banned.
2) We're using the FULL BBR Recommend Stagelist, all the way down to YI:pipes.
3) We're running a side event to gather data on CUSTOM STAGES, and stages that have been traditionally banned in many regions (Skyworld, Green Hill, Mario Circuit, and Onett)
4) We're bringing back pools, and introducing a redemption bracket, two things that have been absent from our region for a long while.

I'm greatly looking forward to this tournament, and I intend to collect a good deal of data on all the stages being tested, which are detailed in the thread.

My specialization is WITHOUT QUESTION, my stage knowledge. I'm responsible for finding out the timing of Brinstar's acid, and I've successfully determined a way to predict the stage flips on Frigate Orpheon. I've written guides for playing on both those stages, as well as Castle Siege and Norfair. These are written primarily from a Marth's perspective, however I have also released generalized versions of all of them save Norfair. I intend to write guides for more stages as I get time.

I'm comfortable playing on every stage in the game (that is legal), and I have extensive knowledge of the counterpicking system and how to best use each stage.

I also know a good deal about Marth, including the majority of his important frame data and match-ups. I secondary Snake, and have working knowledge about the majority of the top tier. I can play pretty much every character in the game at basic level, save a few like Sonic.

Mind-set and thought processes are also something I spend a lot of time debating, particularly in the originalist vs. constructivist debate regarding stage policy and ruleset decisions. I'm very active in both the stage discussion forums and tactical, and I try to contribute my knowledge on such subjects wherever possible.
3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I attend EVERY Smash tournament that gets hosted in Nova Scotia, unless I am unable to do so due to debilitating injury or sickness. This is primarily because I HOST the majority of these tournaments, but I also compete, as well.

I'm incredibly familiar with my local scene. I run our biweekly ranking battles, co-host major tournaments, and I know almost all of our players on a personal level.

Regionally, we are pretty much the only Smash scene in the Atlantic provinces. To my knowledge, NB and PEI have almost no structured Smash community, and NFLD has only a few (though very skilled) dedicated players.

Nationally, I'm connected on a social level to the majority of the other scenes in Canada, including Quebec and Alberta, primarily.

Worldwide, I try to stay as aware of the general metagame as possible. I can name at least a few of the top players for each character, and I'm generally reasonably familiar with the structure of the US regions and their metagames/players.
4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
I've placed pretty consistently at 3rd recently, though I have placed 2nd and 1st in the past. I'm currently ranked 3rd on our regional PRs ([FONT=&quot]http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=9753377&postcount=1605 )[/FONT], and have taken sets off every player in the province.

My entire tournament history may be found here: http://allisbrawl.com/history.aspx?id=32562

My three most recent placings were:

Frag For Cancer 5: 3rd of 69 in Singles: http://allisbrawl.com/ttournament.aspx?id=10718 (September 25th)
Hellasmashed IV: 3rd of 31 in Singles, 5th of 15 in Doubles: http://allisbrawl.com/ttournament.aspx?id=10275 (August 21st)
Last Gamestore Biweekly #8: 2nd of 13 in Singles: http://allisbrawl.com/ttournament.aspx?id=10192 (July 24th)

I have a video from the 8th biweekly there that I'll include just as a quick reference on my general skill level.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

I've reviewed the version exclusives, and I'm going with Black (Reshiram), since Honchkrow, Houndoom and Barujiina are all exclusive to Black. xD

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
Game-wise, I think we need to decide as a community what our stance is on certain controversial issues. This includes LGL's, Stagelists, and of course, the topic of the MK ban. We need to try to come together to make things as standard as possible across all regions, rather than the fragmented and inconsistent pattern of ruleset policies that currently exist.

That doesn't mean that they should be FORCING TOs to run their tournaments a certain way, but it would help to have some consistency in terms of collecting data, in particular.
7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

As for what I can bring to the backroom....

I believe I can bring the viewpoint of an un-represented area of Canada.
I bring experience as a tournament host who has and IS willing to experiment with all varieties of rulesets, including MK banned.
A skilled Marth player in my own right.
I'm extremely knowledgeable about a wide variety of game mechanics, predominately stages.
I well versed in debating, I enjoy it on quite a regular basis.

I hope my application is seriously considered, and I look forward to the possibility of working with the BBR.

Thanks for reading.

Hi, I'm Red Ryu, I'm a 20 year old Lucario/Link main that lives in Wisconsin.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I used to host tournaments for a local library, but I went to college after I was too far away to go to host without a ride. That would be it for being a TO.

The tournaments in my area, we generally run singles and doubles and whatever side event people want to have hosted. A lot of non smash games are hosted on the side which is pretty nice for people to try something different once and a while. Melty Blood is mad fun.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I know Lucario and Link and study their MU's and what their tools are capable of. I work on improving with these characters and try out different tactics to see if it works or not. Pretty much those two characters are my most known facts about this game, I know some facts about characters I secondary, Peach, Falco, Sonic, Ike. I look at tactical a bit to see logic and applications of new tactics or ideas seeing if it makes logical sense or not.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

Every month I see something local I try to go, this month is the only exception. Regional is kinda semi frequent since I need a ride to tournaments when I'm at school, usually, only National I've been to was MLG Columbus. I know my region very well and the players that go around WI/IL.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I'll be honest, I have nothing note worthy. Still I'll list what I can find for convenience sake.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

I'm guessing from the other responses these are White and Black Pokemon, I can't say since I'm trying to keep the game a secret so I can be surprised when I get the game.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

Stagelist is the first thing I think the BBR should look at, it appears that many people don't like the additions of extremely liberal stages, Luigi's mansion, Yoshi's Island Melee, etc.

If regions aren't adapting these stages they shouldn't be recommended, imo.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I contribute to both of the character boards in the match-up threads.

Lucario match-up thread

Link match-up thread

I also contribute to the tactical boards quite a bit. This is my most recent example.

Offical BBR Tier List v5

I will get back into doing video critiques again when I have more time on my hands for Lucario's and Link's. Unfortunately most of the threads are buried in the past. :(

I think I could bring good decision making and insight on comparing character tools and tactics many character employ in their MU's. I hope to bring an active participation into the BBR and hope to improve our community by helping the ruleset and other issues many have with out community.

I've co-hosted Austin,TXs only tournament w/ 60ish entrance in under 5 hours both dubz and single w/ Hylian. Having supporting TOs, good amount of helpers and plenty of TVs the tourny was easily the fastest I've been apart of in recent memory.
2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
Mostly character specific: Kirby. I've mained Kirby since a month after Brawl was released and devoted much of my smash career learning all the different quirks, gimmicks, MU data, stage anomalies that pertain to Kirby. I've a good understanding of Kirby's frame data as well and the different styles of Kirby play.
3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
Smashfest every Tuesday, I also try and Brawl w/ anyone during the week whenever I can. I attend a tournament a month, sometimes two. I am great friends w/ all my local smashers, visit tournies all over the Midwest since moving here and back when I lived in TX I went to many PHASEs, FS, etc. as well as house tournaments. I'm aware of each states PRs, nat'l tournament results, etc.
4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
Unfortunately, since I've only just begun to put what I've learned w/ Kirby into my actual gameplay, I don't really have results. There's only one I can think of which is: Kakuna Matata 3 http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=258389&highlight=kakuna+matata 17 out of 41.
5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Dude Zekrom looks waaaaay more legit. Anything that bad *** looking has got to be cooooool.
6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
Different time limits, stock amnts, stage legalities, unbanning tactics that were banned too soon.
7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
Kirby boards most recent and relevant MU chart/thread discussions are under my control/supervision http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=268901
Also, I'm one of two Kirby mentors (the other being Kewkky who is in the BBR) and am training one trainee. Along w/ mentoring I've also contributed to the Mentor program by laying out a suggested path that worked for my mentorship that was added to the OP which can be found here
Lastly I wrote up an in-depth breakdown of Kirby/MK recently which explained a linear, but effective, strategy along w/ percent of 'button usage' that makes it easy to change your playstyle w/ a 'standard' to compare to. This.

Honestly, there's little Kirby representation in the BBR and if you're not the top player the next best thing is to be the library of knowledge for a specific character AND attend tournaments to stay relevant. I also am a temp debater to use that to brush up on my debate skills, which are not bad, so that I can articulate my opinion better. I'm on SWF a lot so inactivity isn't even an issue so don't be worried when you consider me for entrance. Thanks for the time~

let me in I have boobs! They're way better and more useful than any of the stuff you have required! :lick:
Best application so far, not going to lie. We do require photographic evidence, of course.

But yeah, try to keep this topic focused on submitting applications. It would especially be great for more TOs and (preferably succesful) mains of obscure characters to apply. Also appealing to the BBR members here to not clutter this topic up too much.

Firstly I would like to thank the BBR for giving me an opportunity to apply. Okay, here goes:

Calzorz's Application for BBR

My name is Calzorz and I currently live in the United Kingdom. No we don't all eat crumpets and drink tea, some of us actually play smash...
then drink crumpets and tea.
I've been playing smash since 64's release but I've only gotten into competitive smash from when Brawl was released, and since then, I have practised for hours every day and become the best player in the UK with Snake.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

Whilst I am neither of the mentioned options, I do help organise brackets for our London Monthlies. I also have previously ran my own smashfests in which I had about ten attendees, seven of which were top brawlers in europe such as Anaky, IxisNaugus, KillerJawz, Kasper! and many other big names in europe. Our tournaments in London are run usually every month and whilst we don't get huge turnouts (average of about 25 for Brawl), they do attract big names from the UK everytime, and our community is quite friendly towards eachother.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

The part of Brawl I know most about is undoubtably Snake's metagame. Being a Snake main, and the best Snake in Europe, I strive to keep up to date with the metagame of my character, even creating new combos for us including the Calzorz Combo, which is quite a practical combo, having seen many top Snakes such as Ally performing them in tournament matches. I know a lot of the frame data for my character, such as Snake's grenades coming out on frame 1, or that ftilt does 21% fresh. I know a lot about his zoning game as well, having come from playing the best in Europe such as Greward (Olimar), Kaos (Metaknight) and Mr.R (Marth). I know when it's safe for Marth to spacing his fairs on me, so I can hold grenades to force space between us, so I can perhaps punish with pivot grabs and lead them into tech chases. That also relates to my specialty, tech chasing and mindgames, I don't mean to brag, but I am superb at tech chasing. I know all of Snake's viable options out of a tech chase, and the way in which I can maximise my options to follow up.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I have attended every single tournament to date that has been hosted in my time of playing Brawl in the UK. I attend all the local smashfests, including ones hosted by Anaky and I'm very well known by our regular players, even ones who don't attend tournaments regularly. My fellow smashers can feel free to ask me any questions regarding the game, and I will always help in any way I can, many UK smashers can vouch for me on this.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I have recieved first place at every single UK tournament I've been to as a Snake main, excluding one tournament where Kasper! got first, but I got second in that tournament. I am also ranked first on the Brawl UK Power Rankings.

7th out of 140 singles and 5th of 51 doubles- http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=281925

5th out of 69 singles and 1st out of 28 doubles- http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=284248

1st out of 24 singles and 2nd out of 7 doubles - http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11224758&postcount=2228

I have recieved first at all of my recent UK tournaments (our tournament organiser Fuzzyness does not save the TIO files for some reason, but any brawler can vouch that I have placed first out of them all excluding one, and gotten first in teams in every one except for the most recent where I got second) , and from my european results, it's shown I can hold my own against the best in Europe, having taken out well known players such as istudying, rydle ,Gregs, Kasper , Anaky and more also losing to both kaos and leon 3-2 who are also very well known in europe .

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Zekrom, he looks like something out of MGS :O.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would like to see the BBR focus on the top tier characters but more specifically, on how they view certain matchups. I believe that with the amount of knowledge of Brawl I have, I am perfectly capable of helping out with the metagames of the top tiers, having experienced fighting them all myself, whilst maintaining the ability to discuss matchups without showing bias towards characters.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=10852537&postcount=196

I believe that I will bring a large amount of experience to the backroom. I've played with the best, I know what works and what doesn't, but I'm also very eager to help out my fellow smashers, regardless of the character they play. I maintain a good representation of the UK scene, and I will gladly do the same for the BBR.

I have a lot of knowledge to offer in regards to Snake, and what he and other characters can do to get around their glaring weaknesses to make match ups far more bearable. I have helped out multiple members of the Snake boards, and I will gladly help out anyone who comes seeking help. I am well known throughout the european smash scene so I feel that I could bring a lot of positive feedback in regards to opinions on the BBR, and still maintain the privacy the BBR strives to maintain.

I thank you sincerely for reading my application, and I do hope I am accepted into the Brawl Back Room.

Regards, Calzorz.

hi guys! thanks for reading this and (hopefully) your consideration!

(time for serious not-all-lowercase coney)

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

Sadly, no to both. My intention for over a year now has been to run a tournament in the greater Baltimore area. There's a great deal of unknown talent in and around the city, not to mention the city itself is relatively close to my entire region, ensuring a strong regional showing. I've had difficulty finding a venue, though I think I've found one currently.

When I do host one, which should be in the very near future, I plan on running a considerably more liberal stagelist than what's normally seen on the East Coast. Nothing outrageous, just something more akin to MLG or the BBR stagelist, with my own personal changes here and there.

I can say that at my tournament I also plan on putting a HEAVY emphasis on new recruits into the community. MD/VA as a community has been slacking in terms of encouraging new players...small brackets and a lack of pools leaves underdeveloped players feeling frustrated and ripped off, and a combination of poor tournament organization and elitism among the top players means they don't even really get to play friendlies to get any better! For this reason, I plan on being the first TO in MD/VA to practice the use of pools as a standard, not an exception.

I just wish I could've held something sooner so I could have something concrete to show y'all, heh.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

The part of Brawl that I'm most interested, and what I know the most about, is the psychology behind the game. How choices of character, stage and percent can effect and shape a player's mentality is my favorite subject...imagine the panic of any character against Wario on Brinstar at, say, 6:46. Metaknight, 90%, against Snake, 60%, maneuvering around platforms, holding shield for dear life for fear of utilt, awaiting an opportunity for a dtilt into an edgeguard possibility. I like that kinda stuff.

I got pretty tangential there, sorry! Anyway, I play Dedede, and I think I've earned the right to call myself a top Dedede at this point...I hope so, anyway. I hate being presumptuous. I know little about the other characters in terms of guaranteed follow-ups or specific matchup gimmicks, but I do know enough about each characters advanced techniques and most appropriate options to speak at length about them.

At heart, though, I'm about the community, specifically the lower-level players. It's tough out there for them, low-placing hopefuls that, despite getting nearly last at each tournament and being stuck in low-seed hell, still come in hopes of developing their abilities. This game really does get more fun the better you get at it, and I think it's a shame that the community doesn't do absolutely everything it can to welcome in new players.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

Preeetty often. I've been pretty lazy lately but, I have spurts wherein I'll come to every tournament for a month or two, and then slack off for the next for weeks. I'm not taking a break from Smash entirely though, as I still do keep up with the scene and what's happening in the community.

I'd like to think I'm very familiar with the scene in general, on the local, regional and national level. I'm not sure how to prove it, other than I know who plays who, who's doing what where, the sleepers and rising stars of individual regions, the powerhouses all around the nation, that kinda thing. I guess I'm the kind of elitist jerk laughing when people said "WHO IS THIS FELIX GUY WTF OUT OF NOWHERE."

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Pretty good, I guess. I won't bore you with too many results or anything but, I'm ranked in MD/VA and consistently perform well at a local level (Top 8 guaranteed, usually top 5). Regionals are hit-or-miss with me, sadly, and I underperform at nationals. Here's a list of my last few tournaments, in reverse chronological order:

School is in Session 3 (Cincinnati, OH) [9/11]
Singles: 7 / 116 Entrants
Doubles: 3 / 36 Teams

GamePad: Final Destination (Fredericksburg, VA) [8/21]
Singles: 4 / 26 Entrants
Doubles: 3 / 8 Teams

Apex 2010 (New Brunswick, NJ) [8/7]
Singles: 49 / 266 Entrants

Omni Presents: Xanadu (Ellicott City, MD) [7/17]
Singles: 25 / 64 Entrants

Woodbridge: BSAFTF (Woodbridge, VA) [6/26]
Singles: 2 / 21 Entrants
Teams: 3 / 8 Teams

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Oh, please. Let me know when you're done with that children's game, I'll be over here practicing my cartoon penguin.

[ if this answer will stop me from getting into the bbr then zekrom definitely ]

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I'd definitely like to see a more concrete stage list. Too many people take issue with the last one and there really seems to be a divide between the more conservative East Coast players and the more liberal-minded Midwest. I'd like to see more work done in establishing a balance between the two.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Well I haven't made any big contributions as of yet in terms of posting...mostly because I've really seen no need to. I'm not one to facilitate discussion unless it's something that I care deeply about, and I really take no issue with the community as it stands right now. I was contemplating making a blog examining the psychological effects of difference in stocks as they pertain to characters (how Snake stocks may or may not be more valuable than Falco stocks), but I never got around to it. Maybe some day!

I did run an ambitious, idealistic little thread, "EXEMPLARY: The Top Five of Each Character," a thread designed to, with as little bias as possible, identify and acknowledge the five best of each character in the game. Sadly, the project was doomed from the start and the thread became overrun with biases from too-impassioned people, so the thread was closed. I miss her every day.

What I think I would bring to the Back Room is, really, another voice. A level-headed voice of clear mind and conscience, without bias (though that's technically impossible but you get my drift) or personal agenda. Though my focus is toward the community and a sense of shared consciousness I'm not one for pandering or sycophantic behavior; I look at all sides of an issue and respond thoroughly with respect to contexts and individualistic differences. I can see the big picture.

Thank you for your time!

Here we go again.

Niddo's application said:
My name is Nidtendofreak, though I much, much prefer Niddo. Yes, I'm the outspoken dude who's often posting in the tier list topic, and had the 5th 3rd most posts in the previous tier list topic.

Questions:
1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

-I'm afraid not. It's one of those things I would love to do, but don't have the money or the place to do so. If I did host a tournament, you could bet that I would allow every recommended stage, have a 9 starter set, no LGL, and would ask people "prove to me that these stages are broken".

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

-Hm...in order of what I know about the most: Ike, Stages, Low Tier Characters. Ike has been my main since I first tried him out in SSE. As thus, I've learned as much as possible about him. I know his jab combos, grab releases, MU ratios, can visualize his hitboxes, can estimate how far he can go with QD at various charge %s and height above the stage, and various other things. As far as I know, I'm considered one of the most knowledgeable people about Ike.

When it comes to stages, I firmly believe in having a liberal stage list, and have been working on collecting data for Pirate Ship. I've been sidetracked by vacation and college, but I'd guess it's about 80% done. If I get it done before the applications are over, I'll post a link. I've also played on many of the stages that the more strict areas like EC have never touched. I've also been ballsy enough to use weird CPs, such as PS2 in tournament.

I've always preferred learning about low tier characters. They are just so much more interesting than high tier characters. In particular I'm learning Falcon and Link, though it's going to take me a while to learn all of the various points about Link. I've also developed various theories about the low tiers, though I haven't posted them anywhere. For example, I don't think Jigglypuff can rise even a single spot, even with planking potential, and that Link has the most potential out of the low tiers, though it's basically impossible to give a "rating" to potential as it were.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

-I attend tournaments as often as cash allows. Sadly, I don't have a job and I can't even attempt to get a job until November at best, due to my previous work permit expiring and the long paperwork process to get another permit. I have however been to two regional tournaments and a handful of local tournaments and smashfests.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Final Smash 5: Didn't make it out of pools.
Final Smash 6: Second last.
The three local tournaments I've been to: Second last, though one is due to the fact I had to play against more opponents than most people. I won two sets, but ended up second last.

As you can tell, I'm improving ever so slowly. By slowly I mean a snail's pace.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

-Never got into pokemon. The black one in the picture looks cooler though. Now, if we were talking about Metabots on the other hand...

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

-Does being more logical with tier positioning count as an aspect of the game? There seems to be a trend of overrating a character when it comes to tier lists, but not applying the same logic used on that character to other characters. *glares at Fox*. If not, I think low tiers in general. It seems to be the most overlooked area, though I can understand it with all of the damage Inui certainly did while he was in the BBR and claiming to be an "expert" on low tiers.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

- I'm currently running the Ike MU ratio topic found here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=271374 I decided that the Ike boards only needed inner discussion for MU ratios for two reasons. Firstly: we already get enough information about how the MU ratios could change with other boards inviting us to their discussions. Ratios don't change ever other month in most cases. Every 4 months or so is fine. Secondly: we (most of all me) got sick and tired of running into close minded people who refused to budge from a view point of "PS everything that isn't jab, take the Ganondorf ratio and change it by #5 to account for Jab". It's not needed, so why run into it constantly?

- For the Ike board's newest guide, I contributed to the stage aspect of the guide, seen here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=279394. This was shortly before ruleset 3 was released, so I'm slightly outdated in layout. I also threw in my 2 cents about Snake's grenades. Please note both posts were rough, outline posts, hence odd things like the scale at the top of my stage list.

I believe I can bring a more logic based view of the characters, low tier in particular but other areas as well. You (the BBR) might have noticed a fair amount of support for me questioning the placement of Fox in the newest tier list, and the various flaws I pointed out in placing him that high instead of right beside Wolf. I also believe that I proved that I can be levelheaded when I need to be/want to be when it comes to discussions (though being aggressive is fun too. :bee:). I've also been proven to be correct about the earlier over placing of PT due to Reflex hype and him basically carrying the PT metagame. On the other hand, I'm also willing to admit I'm wrong. I still don't believe Ike should quite be that high yet, but I have nothing to prove it. Currently, there is no data proving that Sheik belongs over Ike, so I'm not going to argue for it. I feel that Bowser should be above Lucas, but I don't have the data to back that up either, though it's close.

I've also proven on a minor scale to be able to accurately call various events happening, based on what others have said in topics, such as Snake staying second and Lucas not moving due to Yoshi being moved above him and Bowser dropping below him. Basically, I'm generally speaking good at getting a reading on what's going to happen, as long as I have enough information available. Not in the silly mental power way, but in the logical conclusion way.

On a minor note: I also really don't care if other people flame me for my ideas; something that I believe a BBR member would need to be able to do. If they can't just tell it like how they see it, their opinions are compromised. Peer pressure can not be a factor in deciding various things.

Thank you for your time.

Hi! I’m G~P, I main Ike, Rob and Ganondorf and I come from England, although most of you prefer to refer to us as just Europe >.<

1. I am not a tournament organiser or co-host. However, I always bring a Wii & TV for setups at our tournaments and I always make sure I thank the host before leaving. I hope to host a long-duration smash fest next year and hopefully go on to hosting monthlies afterwards. The tournaments here are usually run fairly efficiently however the sheer lack of setups at most tournaments mean that most tournaments are late to finish. There also needs to be tighter ruling on friendlies happening during tournament matches as this affects the speed of the tournament a lot more than expected.

2. I personally feel that I specialise in the data side of the game rather than the mental side. I have used the majority of the cast for at least a small duration and came to the conclusion that Ike and R.O.B are my best characters, so I take a lot of time out to practice with them and learn about all of their specific abilities. I also like to look into the workings of the more unconventional moves in characters inventories and think of interesting ways of using it for metagame advancement. On a lesser note I enjoy looking into stages and how certain small gimmicks favour certain characters over others and then decide if it’s ideal or not to incorporate into my play style.
I also seem to carry small pieces of knowledge that no-one else in my scene knows, such as ikes eruption column on Castle Siege (I have also succeeded in pulling this off in matches as well). I’ve also been named as some kind of ‘politician’ for being able to win alomsot all debates I have (or so I’ve been told)

3. I try to attend all tournaments available as it’s always nice to see people from the brawl community and it’s nice to compete and see how I'm stacking up vs. certain players. I get the chance to play many big names in the European scene such as Calzorz, Kasper and Anaky, so I have learnt a lot of techniques that can help me utilise my strengths in these match ups. As for the community, I'm pretty confident in saying I know just about everyone in the british brawl scene quite well as I talk to most of them over smashboards or MSN frequently. Sadly the regional scene is the same thing as the national scene for such a small country. However, I plan on going to large tournaments in Europe as soon as a good opportunity for me arises.

4. Sadly the most recent tournament I competed in ended in disaster as I came up against two pretty horrible ike matchups. It ended in me losing two of the three tournaments games I had and finished last (as all those who lost in the first game got a bye) and for doubles I decided to be nice a team with the newest member of the brawl scene to help introduce him in, sadly it ended in disaster.
http://www.smashboards.com/showpost....ostcount=10848 (I'm listed as G~P)

5. I'll take reshiram because it looks like some kind of deity that's going to wreck everything in sight

6. I would like to see the BBR look into the stage striking/banning system a little bit, because although it was a nearly flawless system in melee. The amount of stages available to be counterpicked plus the amount of american players using Meta Knight (there are no where near as many Meta Knight users in Britain) would warrant a different stage banning rule for those playing against a Meta Knight (such as having two banned stages vs. Meta Knight) also I feel that certain stages are in the list of legal stages which shouldnt be and needs further investigation to prove they should be legal stages, and vice versa for banned stages coming into legal play.
Pokemon Stadium 2 in particular springs to mind, because although on single character is overly powerful on said stage, the air sectino alters game physics, which-while not seeming to bad on the surface- ruins most regular item (grenade, turnip etc.) tactics, gets rid of autocancel tactics and causes vertical k.o moves to have almost unstoppable killing power, but I can magine this is already part of a heated discussion among the brawl back room

7. I've made extensive contributions in the r.o.b boards stage discussion, the most in cepth being on castle seige

This is me looking into the tactics of Ike's (seemingly) most useless move, and after a debate we came to a conclusion of them being too situational to be massively important.
As for being part of the brawl backroom, I feel I could bring various new opinions and data for rules, matchups, etc. with data used for a different communty which has been shown to be around a similar level of skill as USA. also (as stated above in Q2) I'm apparently very good at maintaining a smart debate when it would normally break down into a flame war which could prove important in moving topics forward faster and keeping relations between the BBR and public healthy. I feel I could be a useful asset for the stage discussions in the BBR as I personally think I can theorycraft stages quite well for and against most characters.

Thank you for reading this massive wall of text that is my application and I hope you want me to be part of the Brawl Back Room ^_^

Might as well apply.

Yo, I'm Yink a Ness main from Iowa. I used to mod Brawl and Melee Ness and I've gotten along with those communities fairly well and I enjoy my time here on SWF :).

Questions:

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I'm a tournament host. I'm running my first tournament ever in November, called Brainshock Alpha. It's looking to have a pretty good turnout for my first one so I couldn't be happier. What do I do different? I suppose I just try my best to get a side tournament that people like and try to make sure they love their time here.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I know the most about Ness. I know about a few other characters pretty well and have a good view of most of the cast but Ness is my specialty. I do like to do some researching too. I did some grabbing research and Ness' PSI Magnet healing, along with Lucas' as well. I also run the Ness match-up thread, and I'm seriously trying to get our new info in there. Out with the old, in with the new!

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attend them pretty often, at least once a month, maybe even twice if I can. I'm pretty close with my scene (Joker490Frozen, Schizm, etc)...Regional I'd like to be closer but I do know a lot of people in the states surrounding Iowa. Lastly, National: I know a lot of people on SWF and I think I know quite a few people from the EC, the South, not so much the WC though.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

My performances have gotten a lot better. I used to be alright, but now I think I do a whole lot better than I've done. I'd post results but Iowa doesn't really put our results in a results thread...we just put them up in our discussion thread. I could look around for some but the last tournament I went to I got 4th. The one before that 3rd.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Obviously Steelix!

Reshiram I suppose. I'm more of an old school Pokemon person myself!

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

Honestly, just getting some more diversity in the BBR would be nice for me. It'll make it easier to have discussions or getting closer to finding the final tier list (if there will be one). By diversity I mean getting people who are knowledgeable with their character.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Here's some of the stuff I've helped out with in the past:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=269969 - Ness' PSI Magnet Info
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=252813 - Grab Gimping Info
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=188116 - I'm re-doing the match-up thread for Ness

What I think I'll bring to the BBR, is info about Ness and how to fight him or how to use him. I know a lot about this character in both singles and doubles. I pay attention to new Ness finds and things like that. In case you're not certain of what might be a newer Ness find, this is one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk5demkWerI - thanks to Z1GMA for the find as well.

Thanks for reading!

Hi, my name is Vinnie. I rethought applying and I motivated myself enough to apply... I'm a top player from the tristate area. I main G&W/ICs/some Peach, and can use them all at a very high level. I'm known as a top 2 G&W. I'm a very psychological player. I believe that I can analyze top level play, and I have a lot to offer to bring to the BBR.

Questions:
1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
I'm not much of a TO... I hosted something over a year ago, but that's it. Tourneys are usually ran extra well by really really great hosts, such as Alex Strife, Will, Doom, Keitaro, Inui, etc.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
I know what every move does in the game... I'm not very good with frame data, but I can keep up a good discussion in that sense. But yes, I'm mostly a psychological player (gotta land those g&w smashes / IC grabs somehow!), and I'm known for my "legendary reads" whenever I play. Thought processes, patterns, and prediction are my strengths as a player.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I attended tourneys weekly over the summer. Now it's probably bi-weekly... and I'll probably go to at least one tourney per month during the school year. I'm very familiar with my local scene and regional, being able to identify all active/semi-active players in my region. I've traveled a lot over the summer (went to MLG Columbus [Ohio], MLG Raleigh[NC], I've been to New England three times, PA once, and a few other states that I'm probably missing because I can't remember atm lol.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I'm currently ranked 2nd in my state. NY PR: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=208594
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=282625 1st/21 (7/31/10)

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=285831 2nd/18 (9/4/10)

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Reshiram :p

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
Stage selection, analysis into what makes a match-up hard (Snake ***** G&W, but if G&W learns the match-up, it's evenish. Is that a 65:35 match-up or a 55:45 match-up?), and hopefully opening their eyes (or them opening my eyes!) to what ICs should really be on the tier list.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
Uhh I went a long time disliking the G&W boards and not going there much... but here's what I could scrape up:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlwpCEqunHU (I created this, and made a rather large post about it somewhere, but I can't find it :/ and it wasn't a thread)

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11266928&postcount=2924 uhh I made this post a few days ago (ICs are my best top tier match-up with G&W even though the match-up is still kinda really bad :/)

That's probably everything I have that's worth noting. I feel like I could bring to the BBR some unique opinions, good debating, and really great knowledge of the game itself, because of my ability to play many characters at a high level. Also, there are very few people from the ny/nj area in the BBR (omg, are there ANY? @_@), so I could be a good representative for that, too. Please consider my application and get back to me asap, thanks!

My name is CloudRainZero, otherwise known as C.R.Z. I am a Fox main from Europe and am considered one of the more knowledgeable posters among the Fox boards. I love to help out the Fox community and I appreciate you guys giving me the opportunity to apply for BBR membership ^____^.

Questions:
1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

Unfortunately I have not hosted any big tournaments yet. for the past 2 years i have tried to find the time to look for a hall in order to host something. During this time i was studying so it was very difficult. the UK's brawl scene is not very big. We have one monthly tournament that our top players regularly attend. However the amount of tournaments appearing in the UK are starting to decline, i want to change that. I am currently in the process of starting a new monthly tournament to go along side the current monthlies in the UK. My plan is to create an environment where by players will want to get involved and get better. i also would like to expand the community here with my tournaments by holding side events as well. Hopefully this will be organized by at least early 2011.

the one unique thing about the UK tournaments so far is that they feel more like smash fests. Yes they can get very competitive but its like a place to go and hang out with your friends and just have fun. we all pretty much know each other, like a big happy smash family.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

In terms of specializing, i spend most my time on fox. The main reason is simply because i main fox and have done since smash 64's release. I have a good understanding of how fox works and have been part of fox boards for quite awhile now. I’ve tried my best to try and help and influence other fox players as well as attempt to point the meta game in the right direction. I help out in the majority of the fox boards discussions and speak with alot of fox players often. I have a good idea of what he is capable but also understand and accept his flaws.

As well as fox i have concentrated a lot in the past on players mind set when playing this game. This is because i believed that this is a huge factor when playing a game as deep as this one. Another reason is also because i need to look at things in a very detailed way. If i don’t then i do not understand, i have to look at all possibility's before i can focus and accept something. This makes playing this game much more difficult for me.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attend all the tournaments in my local scene. i also try my best to go to other tournaments abroad as well. last summer i went to Bushido impact which was held in France which was considered to be a huge international tournament. I plan on going to even more next year.

As i said in the first question, in the UK we are very familiar with each other and gladly help anyone that is new to the smash scene. I am also familiar with a lot of European players which i have met on smash boards as well as online. Unlike a lot of Europeans i also now know many american players personally from Florida since I traveled to Florida last summer.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Overall my performance is not as good as i would have hoped. on average at top 8 while using fox only. However i am trying very hard now that college is over and plan to consistently place at top 5. Although the UK has a small smash scene, we have some very extraordinary players who place above or the same as me. Calzorz consistently places 1st in most of our tourneys and is considered to be only second to Ally as well as best snake in Europe. Kasper is also a very good player who is also the best falco in Europe and considered second to DEHF in many players opinions. I have one of the best fox's in Europe however it is not decided who is the best at this point in time.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Zekrom, because we all know that the cool kids like Zekrom

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would like the BBR most of all to look into stages and rule sets the most. I do understand that they do work hard on these area's already but they need more commitment to them. Tournament rules need to be released in a more viewer friendly way and need to be clear. If BBR's rules are not clear then how are tournament organizers meant to implement them into there tournaments.

stages will always need looking into as the meta game is always evolving, there needs to be a balance between diversity and balance. We should try and make this game as balanced as possible. I was very glad to see the BBR posting threads in character forums to find out what they thought. I believe it is important to work with all the boards to help create good rule sets that we all can enjoy. I also believe the BBR should take more notice of match ups as they are also constantly changing along with the meta game and should be taken into consideration.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

When in discussions on forums, I try my best to keep the peace. I don’t see the point in arguing with someone over a point which isn't even significant. I do my best to make valid points and always think from a players point of view. Because i am an active player, I am up to date with the meta game. i know what does and doesn't work in this community. I am from Europe so i play in a slightly different meta game to the USA players which gives me different views on different things. I unlike many have visited different countries around the world. This makes it much easier for me to understand this game from different individuals point of view.

Sup Fella, I am SOVAman but sometimes more comonly known as lil'b. I am applying because I feel like I am the best possible choice to be in the backroom since I host extremely successful tourneys in a not so consistent region and know how to get **** done.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I have run 2 extremely successful tourneys in the Greenbelt area in MD. The first one I ran I got 70+ people to attend and it was held at a local Five Guys. About half the players there were new players and the tourney thread was stickied by AZ

The second one I ran got about 40 people and was also stickied by AZ. This one I didn't get the same attendance as Five Guys, but both my tourneys got more attendance than any Md/Va local recently. I also hosted a smaller local too in VA.

I plan on running more tourneys along side VGBootcamp and making the Md/Va scene grow. You guys can use my imput in the Backroom cause I can give opinion from a TO stand point.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

My main focus is TOing, but I have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Yoshi and DDD. I no longer play Yoshi but I used to be a top Yoshi player and a top contributer, contributing various things such as the Yoshi CG. Now I play DDD but I am getting very consistent with that character and plan to succeed. Also I can contribute to DDD related discussions.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I am very familiar with the regional and local scene for Md/Va and East Coast. I pretty much know what is going on all the time and have a major influence in Md/Va and what is decided in tourneys and rulesets. I pretty much attend tourneys every week or so, when I am not working. I don't always enter the tourneys but I love the community and can't stay away.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

My performance isn't that great, but I just picked up DDD 2 months ago and I am already placing top 10 consistently. I am good at awkward/"bad" MUs like ICies with DDD and can contribute a lot because of my unique play.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Zekrom obv.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would like to see the BBR overall improve the community, but as far as in game aspects. I would say perfecting the rulesets and getting legit data for each character for the community to take advantage of and to help newer players feel more comfortable going to there first event and possibly sticking around.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

1.Yes, I host tournaments on my university campus. I guess its more of a cohost seeing as I don't work alone but either way, tournaments are run. I hold 2 different types of tournaments, though the turnout has been similar for both. Some are open to only my school's smash club and the other is open to the entire smash community. Typically end up with 15-25 attendees.

Hmm, nothing really out of the ordinary is done at my tournaments. I like to experiment with new rulesets and stagelists but besides that its all typical. I guess I do make an effort to ensure that anyone new gets to play a few friendlies and gets into the habit of calling next on tv's, etc. I would say the TO's in my region do a pretty good job at making new people feel welcomed.

2. I would say that I'm quite knowledgeable regarding the physics of the game as well as knowing my 2 characters (falco and wolf) in great detail. Honestly though, I mess around with just about every character and bounce around between characters that I find enjoyable pretty often (currently, samus and diddy are amazing).

3. I attend tournaments approximately twice a month. During the summer i was hitting every single one that was held in my region as well as a few in socal and the MLG circuit. I know pretty much everyone in my local scene. Within my region, I keep track of PR and tourney results of every scene. The entire nation, I'll check a few results sporadically but its no where near comparable to the former two. If its a large tournament then I'll be sure to check it or if there was supposed to be some huge upset I'd check that out too.

4. Within my region I've been placing 1-4. Outside of it I've been placing top 16.

6. I'm not even certain what aspects of the game they currently look into/work on so this is difficult for me to say. I've been taught a few interesting discoveries utilizing items recently so possibly looking more into those? (items = banana, zss armor and tires, not like random spawn items)

7. Here are a couple posts:

Here's a topic I initiated. Though the project never finished/is still in work.

Tourney host =) mad underqualified but i think i got this

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I have been running my own local tourney series since Nov 2008 which gains little attendance since its mostly my area hat shows up(NE Ohio) however it has brought in alot of new players and has been good for keeping our local scene active and a threat(this and other factors)

Ive also Co-hosted a majority of our local TYM series which does bring in out of City attendance, along with sometimes(if asked) helping TO events in Ohio.

I have also hosted a Brawl tourney for Ghaleon(Seasons beatings TO from SRK) over the summer

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I have been mostly thinking about the mindset and atittudes of players and which traits tend to stand out among the top players that give them their edge over the rest.

i do however love to research and have started to do so more and more or when ever i feel i need to learn new stuff. i will admit even though i know quite a bit abou my character there are other pikachus that know more(Esam, K Prime, kaylo etc etc)

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

Up until last month when i moved to chicago, i attended the majority of Ohio tourneys which was usually around 3 a month(sometimes 4, especially last year)

I am a member of the Ohio Power rankings panel so i know most if not all of the players in my state. as mentioned above i was the Local TO so i am very familiar with NE Ohio

I am also a traveller, i have attended almsot every brawl national in the US except for 4(Whobo 1&2, Active gamers, Axis[the one that like 300 people that first year of brawl]). so im also very familiar with the national scene since ive played in almost every major smash area in the US(I havent been to Texas, but i plan on going to MLG dallas)

i also spend alot of time reading results cause sundays are boring and i have free time so i do know alot of players names and etc.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Uh not too many spectacular post, and my best ones are in a group thats not visible to everyone(The Ohio Power rankings group)

I am a very reasonable and logical person that an take a stacne on something if it makes since or i agree with it personally. i am also able to be persuaded if it is logical and backed by facts/proof.

In short id bring a very level unbiased head to the BBR, i prde myself in it.

Hey! I'm Illmatic, a rather new Peach player from Houston, Texas. I'm sixteen, a senior in high school (skipped a grade), and overall very excited in applying for the Brawl Back Room.

Well I'm not a "main" tournament host in Houston, but I have hosted two tournaments since I joined the offline scene sometime around June.

I hosted my first tournament in August for my little brother's birthday (lol) it was sort of a "suprise" event and it ran very smoothly. For my first event we had alot of big names show up as well as a great number of entrants (even someone from Florida). As far as "different from the norm" I feel as though I really got to know everyone that came to the tournament and welcomed them into the smash community regardless of skill level.

I know the most about my character: Peach in Brawl mainly with her character specific matchups, but I also have a great understanding of the mental aspects of the game. I have the boldness, poise, and awareness to consistently make good reads, and pick up information on the opponent with relative quickness. This is most likely due to the great understanding of the options each character has in many certain situations, and the option my character has in spacing and floating to put herself in the best position for punishing mistakes.

I believe Pierce7d stated his opinion on this while discussing Peach's position in the Back Room as to where she should be placed on the tier list. Arguments arose on how she would be higher if she had "that" kill move or "this" kill move. Pierce7d simply stated it's not the character but the player - we need a Peach who can get better reads. I totally agree. That's the Peach I believe I am and am striving to be better at. Peach has a float and has amazing aerial mobility, we need to start abusing that. Reads are what separates the pro Peaches from the good Peaches. Whatever works for me - works. I try not to overuse my kill moves, but when I get in one of those good reads, because I threw my opponent off, and have the lead - thats where my character can strive.

Other than that I love the mental aspects Brawl can leave on people, like when I crush kids' dreams when they lose to a Peach, haha.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
Ever since I joing the smash community I have been very active. Since July, I have attended every tournament Houston has offered as well as going to numerous smashfests every week. Houston is on point as far as activity goes and I want to keep it that way. Everyone in Houston knows me very well, and along the way I have made numerous amounts of friends. Region and nation wise, I am not very familiar as far as meeting at particular tournament sites but I have gained many friends through recognition on the boards and as well as videos etc. etc. I have more than sufficient knowledge on who mains who, top players in regions, and I am looking forward on attending my first national - MLG Dallas in November, and repping Peach unlike anyone has ever before.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
Taking into consideration my character, the amount of time I have been attending tournaments, and my region I would have to say that my tournament performance is "above average" so to speak. At HOBO 25 (the first tournament I ever attended) I managed to place seventh out of sixty two entrants, beating some top players and gaining recognition as a Peach player. Later on, I was able to prove my worth by consistently placing somewhere aroundtop eight or lower.

Sorry, I stopped playing Pokemon after Sapphire/Ruby.
Yeah, I know. I'm lame.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
-Centralizing a ruleset based on facts while still incoporating the community's opinions.

I know this is the BBR. Very knowledgable players of the game are included in it and have been doing a great job, but as of late I have seen too many players in the community backlashing on the Back Room. This shouldn't be happening. The most recent event that comes to mind the the Ruleset v.3 in which the whole thread hit over two hundred pages of flame in under a day or two. Is this truly what we want? Sure, they don't have to play by the BBR's Ruleset but it should be the basis of competitive play like it has been since the beginning.

Later the Back Room locked the thread and later released a more condensed and explained ruleset (3.1) and the community was much more pleased than the previous. That's what I like to see, the Back Room took the ruleset tweaked some things here and there, and the community was (overall) pleased.

Basically, I want Brawl to continue thriving for competitive players, while still allowing new players (like myself) to get introduced into it, this is one of the main reasons why I would enjoy being a part of it.

Overall the BBR (in my opinion) has been doing a great job. The new tier list accurately defined our current metagame as well as backing it up with concise explanations.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Peach on Brinstar: http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11129486&postcount=188

Overall I feel as though I can bring another voice into the BBR. I have a good amount of knowledge of the game, can play a multitude of characters at a higher competitive level (particularly Peach), have a large pool of opinions which I would love to share if given the opportunity as well as the occasion, am from Texas (not many BBR members from here considering the size), and I feel as though I could offer a "fresh" new face to the BBR. I want to help boost the public's opinion on the BBR by having new members as well as old become more social. Pierce7d's thread on "Chatting with the BBR" was a great new addition to the overall community. Since I am semi "new", friendly, and positive, I feel as though I could relate with a fair amount of the community on things that could be less approachable to a veteran BBRoomer.

I'm all for experimentation with new ideas regarding new rulesets. I will never shoot down an idea and will always try my best to investigate further into it to find out what is best for the community.

I wish to bring the BBR further than just an "online group on SWF", I want to head in the direction of incoporating it more to the public. When I say that I do not mean I want to share everything the BBR does as a whole but rather find out what the community truly desires while still staying within reason of competitive play. Ask questions, get opinions, test rulesets in my own tournaments, and try to keep Brawl's metagame striving as long as possible.

It's a great competitive game, I want to make it even better.

Thanks for allowing me to be a prospect!

If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I host tournaments about once every 2 months, more specifically, a series. The tournaments i run are controlled peacefully, and matches normally get done on time.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I know most of the cast well, and i enjoy researching and answering questions as deeply as i can for interrogative members. I'm overall quite helpful at Q&A, but i know much more on my mains than my other characters.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I'm looking to get much more active in my state scene as a whole, but as of now, i've only been in 4, 1 state monthly, 3 county hosted.
4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Since i can't really say my first state monthly was actually a tournament, my overall placing for my district is very high, although we don't have a lot of players here. I'm attempting to get more placings for state and regionals, and those should come with time.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Zekrom.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

Adjusting the rules to meet necessary requirements, rather than populous demand. Assuming progression takes place at the quality i assume, that point will be reached with ease.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I feel i could be an overall help in contribution to better solutions over problems on the Brawl network. I could very well help in maintaining any discussion i could, seeing into my above-average activity on the forums.
As for my contributions to the Brawl community:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=286759

All in all, i hope to better understanding and give all i can to be of service to not only the BBR, but the Brawl community as a whole.
Thank you for your time.

I hosted a series of 5 tournaments in 2009, and you could say that I am the one responsible for reviving the 'perth scene'. Towards the end of 2008 our scene was dying and we were only getting an average of 10 entrants per tournament. I was getting a little fed up with this, because I knew that there was a huge amount of room for growth and that it just needed someone to do the right things when it comes to hosting a tournament. Our first problem was that we were hosting the tournaments at houses, not venues. Secondly, it was in a location that was quite far south of the river which is inconvenient for the majority of the smashers in perth. Noting these problems, I hosted my first tournament at a venue, advertised it on many sites and the expected number of attendance became about 25. It was really nice seeing new faces pop in and posting in our social thread on the boards. On the day of the tournament while I was setting up people were flooding into the room, and in the end we had a tournament of 30 entrants, perth's best attendance for a regular tournament to that date. Since then we've managed to maintain an average attendance of 18 or so, but as for now I've hung up the towel when it comes to tournament organisation.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

My strongest point would be my knowledge about my main, Falco. I've played him since day 1 of brawl's release and in the process of attending tournaments and playing a variety of people I've learnt a great deal on his strengths and weaknesses in every matchup. Another specialty of mine would be the psychology behind smash. I am a huge fan of mixups and through experience I've learnt the true meaning of toying with the opponent's mind.

I am in the FBR (Falco Backroom) and I'm sure all Falco players can vouch for my knowledge about Falco.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

Perth isn't the most sizeable scene in the world but I attend every tournament I can. We have tournaments about every 2-3 weeks and I always attend unless something of great importance comes up.

I am incredibly familiar with the local scene. I have played everyone at least once in tournament and I know everyone's playstyles and habits. I am the video recording guru of the scene and I watch every tournament match that I record to observe how every member of the scene plays.

Unfortunately I am yet to travel out of state but I am still very familiar with the national scene (Australia) as a whole. I know who the best players are and what characters they use. I watch most of the recorded matches from the tournaments that aren't in my state, and I always check the results from every tournament in Australia.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

The main thing I would like the BBR to work on is the publicity of brawl itself. Brawl is widely considered 'a silly kids party game' but it is clearly a competitive game with all the successful tournaments that are held. By doing this, we can increase the size of the smash community because there is definitely still room for growth.

Another thing that I'd like to see happening is an in-depth matchup discussion for every character of the cast. I think having the collected opinions of the most knowledgeable players on every matchup is of value to the smash community and should be something worth doing.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Most of my contributions have been towards the Falco metagame. Here are some threads I made:

Techchasing with Falco: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=226180
Tips to Beat Toon Link: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=253791

Here are some matchup contributions I have made:

Falco vs MK: http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=9146637&postcount=32
Falco vs Peach: http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=7808742&postcount=25 (a little outdated but a contribution nonetheless)

I think I would bring more knowledge about Australia's scene (Shaya is the main man for this though) as well as a lot of Falco knowledge. I think that:

- There's not enough Falcos in the BBR
- There's not enough high-placing Australians in the BBR

Qualifications:

I´m Staco from germany. I live in NRW, the western part of germany. I´m 18 years old. I started playing smash, when it was released in europe June 2008. Before that I played other games like MSCF (I was the best german player at that game). Im currently ranked top 2 in germany @ Brawl and you can pretty much say that I´m top 10 in europe (if you look at present results of european tourneys). I started playing offline in summer 2009, attending my first tourney placing 9th. The tourney was allready pretty big (100 people) and had also dutch and french attendance. I´m the Leader of the german Smash Bros. Brawl Backroom.
The german website is: www.germansmash.de
As you can see I´m also one of the main posters on that site. That´s also one of the reasons, why I post less things in the general SWF topics. I still read everything that matters for me (tactical discussion, mk boards, stage discussion, europe boards, tourney results etc.)
My main is Metaknight, but I´m also experienced with other characters and I don´t just know about MKs MUs.

Questions:

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

Since I live in germany there are just decent tourneys, but right now we are working on getting monthlies (30+ people) in my area and at least four 100+ people tourneys in germany a year.
I´m also one of the people, that regulary seeds the players at the tourneys.
I actually try to get active at hosting tourneys.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

Of course I know the most about the MUs of my main (Metaknight), but I also look at other characters (mostly top and high tiers).
I actually look at the game as consisting of options. Your characters has got certain options in every different situation and you try to pick the most fitting options.
A better and more techskilled player will have more options.
For example:
Snake DThrows MK.
A bad MK will just think about the four basic options (rolling, standup, attack).
But if you look in the depths, you can also find the option to just stay on place and do nothing.
And then there are the options of staying on place, then rolling away, attacking, standup.
If the snake does a shielddash in one direction I can just stay in place at the start and then roll into the different direction and I will get out of the techcase.
I could also try to stay in place and predict/react to an attack of the snake and smashDI it.
The Snake also has to think about all of this options, to cover as much of possible of them.
That´s how I think of the game.
You can choose your options and one option covers a decent amount of the enemies options. He also chooses options, which maybe cover the option you choose. There is no best option (except for punishments), because there is always a counter for everything.
Covering an option does also mean winning space, not just making damage.
Walking away, spacing forward while doing a shorthop, spacing an attack in a special way etc.: all this are also options.
At MU descriptions you just think about the basic options of the MU. (the best options what to do, because they cover the most of the enemies options)
But thinking out of the cast can also be a really good thing.
One thing I often tell people is: I once got told, Azen in Melee always choose the best options. But Ken beat him, because he choose options, which are not the best (they covered less options than the best), but which actually covered the best options.
That´s how I think about the game.

One important aspect is also the mindset of the players. I´m hardly working on it by playing as much serious sets and MMs as possible. People hardly underrate the importance of a good mindset.
Frostbeule, the best Trackmania Nations Player, once said in an interview: "the best players at TM can all drive the same times, but I win the tourneys, because I have a better mindset".
The mindset and health of players is extremly important!

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I started playing smash offline in 2009. Actually I´m attending as much tourneys as possible. In the summer I attended the two biggest european tourneys "Bushido Brawl Impact" and "Brawl in Berlin". I´m also willed to travel out of state for tourneys. I plan to go to america in Summer 2011 or early 2012.
Overall I attended 3 big (100+ people) and a lot of small tourneys (10-40 people).
I´m actually starting to travel through europe much more. I also allready asked people such as Mr-R to visit them more often at weekends (he doesn´t live 2 far away from me, and I just got a car), but right now I have no time, because at the moment it´s the hot phase @ school (in 2 weeks it´s finally over and then I can concentrate on smash more).
I´m well known by the german scene (melee and brawl) and I´m living in one of the brawl hotspots. (20+ players all living just 1 or 2 hours away from me with train)
I´m playing smash at the weekends regulary and also often during the week in the afternoon.
I don´t play WiFi, I stopped playing it at the end of 2009.
I know all mentionable german players in person.
I´m also known by other european players and I also know a lot of them (also in person).
I also sometimes write with american players and I´m in contact with players such as Havok, who is the admin of a nice smashknowledge website: http://theelectricscribble.com/

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I´m always placing first at the tourneys in my region.
In germany I´m placing 1st - 3rd at the tourneys.
Europewide I placed 3rd at BiB and 7th at BBI. (best german performance in europe)
At BBI almost all european good players and Ally! attended. At BiB all good dutch, austrian and german players attended.

BiB:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=284248&highlight=brawl+in+berlin

BBI:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=281925&highlight=bushido+brawl+impact

Surprisingly I´m also placing pretty good in low tiers with Ike, although I´m just playing him at LT tourneys and in friendlys directly before the LT tourney.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Pikachu. ;)

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I want the BBR to actually try to help the community improve. The BR should try to involve japanese and european players more to build up an united community.
In my opinion the community should be the main target of the BR.
I would love to see a united worldwide BR and tourneys with people from all over the world parcipitating in the future.
I also think the BR should try to get "official". If the BBR would create a ruleset and if then all people would take that ruleset for their country and everywhere in the world there would be the same or at least an evenish ruleset, that would be a really big step in the right direction. (sure it will be a long way and hard progress to get that far)
I also think that it´s going in the right direction with players like Ally going to europe, Armada etc. going to america, european brawl players planning to go to america next year, m2k maybe going to japan, the japanese going to america.
Now we also have to work out rulesets, which fit for all of this countries to increase this process of getting a united smash community.
In the german backroom we are also working on such projects, which are there to help the community getting bigger and better.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I´m not sure, if I have written any mentionable posts in the SWF, you should just check my recent posts, they all should be pretty good.

In the german boards you can find a lot of posts and threads of me: germansmash.de

I also love to commentate on blogs.

Check the recent articles, Havok also allready picked up one of the comments, which I wrote in the comments and made an article about it.

I think I can bring knowledge and good ideas to the Brawl Backroom.
I also think that I can help the BR overall improve, so that it gets accepted more, than it does right now.

Thank you for reading my answers and for giving me a possibility to get into the BBR.

I'm hadesblade, a well known yoshi player that recently moved from Arizona to Indiana. I've been improving since I got here. I learned the game primarily playing wifi before I went to enter my first offline tournament in June of 09. I quit wifi shortly after. I have an open head and quickly absorb information about the game.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I'm not currently a host or co-host. Back in Arizona I sometimes ran pools but it was nothing serious. In Arizona, the tournaments were always at Darklink's house. They ran fairly slow, due to not enough space/setups and trying to do doubles and singles with pools in the same day.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I understand a lot about Yoshi and almost all of his matchups. I also know a lot about stages and how they change match ups. I see a lot more about stages than "small, low wide platform, low ceiling, and minor stage hazards". Having the proper mindset is something that has intrigued me for a while, but saying I know or understand a lot about it would be an exageration.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I try to attend tournaments as much as I can. When I lived in AZ, I attended Darklink's monthly tournaments. I also traveled the 8 hour drive to socal twice, and made a trip to New Mexico for a tournament. I recently moved to Indiana, and am still learning to match faces and names. I know of all the top players here, and have met and played most. Since I've gotten here I've been to a tournament in Kentucky, Ohio, and one in Indianapolis.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

My tournament results have been pretty good since I got here.

I've been the highest placing low tier in each event. However, the players I've beaten stand out a lot more than the results I have. At ISA I defeated both Hilt and Hylian in my pool and took first seed. At BitH, I beat both Y.B.M. and Renegade in the regular bracket, and beat hilt in a $5 mm.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

I haven't kept up with Pokemon since third generation. Google images is telling me Reshiram though.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

One thing that you guys recently started was pierce updating the normal brawl players about what is happening in the backroom. One of the most important things I think is getting players to respect the backroom and know what is being discussed. Keeping the communities support seems extremely important.

As for the game itself, I'd like to see matchups discussed in depth, and get a BBR matchup chart out. I'd also like to have detailed discussions of stages, however I believe that is already going on in the backroom and just isn't released.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Recently I haven't been active on SWF's. Yoshi mains use skype to communicate and discuss things with each other. I had a discussion with bwett a long time ago about what stages we do better against MK on, however I don't agree with a lot of what I said, and it's mostly us saying the same things back and fourth and neither backing down. I don't agree with a lot of what I said, or even how I said it now, but it is there. It starts here and goes back and fourth for a few pages. http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=242573&page=3

Aside from that, I haven't really had walls of text on SWF. Most of my discussions have taken place on skype, AIM, or in a xat chat. There's also a few posts I made in the yoshi backrooms.

As far as what I can offer, I know a lot about yoshi. I also have extensive knowledge on how a lot of stages work and how they change sets. I am currently a top yoshi, and live in a region where I will continue to improve. I know a lot about watching and playing to improve. I can also promise an honest opinion and contribution in everything I understand.

Evening gentlemen, I'm Underload. I'm a Snake main from the great state of Colorado. I've been posting on Smashboards since November of 2008, and moderating since May of 2010. I've been playing Brawl consistently since its release in March of 2008.

As I said, I main Snake, and have mained him since I bought Brawl in 2008. In addition, Snake is one of the two forums I moderate here. The other's Tournament Videos.

I've been in Colorado's smash scene since about February of 2009.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I've only run a handful of tournaments in Colorado, but I've helped local TOs like CloudChaser071 and InterimOfZeal organize their events for a while. Whenever I run tournaments or play friendlies with others, I like experimenting with the standard ruleset, usually in the name of SCIENCE!. As a quick example, I ran a Brawl singles event at Extra Fresh, a local 2d fighter circuit, and decided to experiment with the ruleset by lowering the timer and introducing a slightly more conservative stage list. The results of that tournament were very interesting, to say the least. That event's used a lot by myself and local guys like MenoUnderwater when talking about potential stage lists and rulesets.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I most definitely specialize in Snake and his metagame. The opportunity of moderating the Snake boards has given me the motivation to write a couple of guides about Snake's inner working, and also to run Snake's matchup thread. Examples of my work there can be found under question #7.

I have a passionate interest in psychology and sociology, and of course at some point that spilled over into Smash. Even though I haven't waxed poetic on mindsets and the like, I've taken the time to learn and develop my own ideas about how to put yourself in the best position to succeed. It's really fascinating stuff. I definitely have a vested interest in the subject. Also, as I've mentioned before, I enjoy reading about and tinkering with different Brawl rulesets. If I were let into the BBR, you'd probably see me posting around a lot in the different stage and ruleset threads, haha.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I try to attend a tournament at least once a month, even with school and my sometimes hectic schedule. I love the guys in my scene to death, and if I can't attend an event, I'm posting around in the Colorado social thread every day. Given another month, I should be free enough to attend events every week or two. That'll be fantastic. I'm also in cahoots with the local Melee scene, but those guys are a whole 'nother breed.

I'm your guy if you want to know about the Southwest's smash scene. I'm also fairly familiar with the United States and the condition if its collective scenes.

4. How is your overall tournament performance?

While ranked 5th in Colorado, I've taken 13th out of 64 and 17th out of 51 at the two Supercon events I've attended. 3rd out of 21 at Colorado Ranbat 3, and another 3rd out of 18 at Colorado Ranbat 2. 4th out of 12 at Kyle's Tournament. Like I said, school has taken precedent over entering tournaments lately. Sorry.

Also, Colorado tends to not make results public on Smashboards, for whatever reason. Probably laziness. I can get most every tournament's results, if you want to see anything specific.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Reshiram, always. Remember when Black and White's initial details were released, and everybody was behind Zekrom and decided to hate on Reshiram? Not this guy. Reshiram fo' lyfe!

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

RULESETS! The BBR is a very unique establishment in the gaming world. I don't think there's an sort of central decision-making machine like the BBR in the entire fighting game environment. As such, we have the opportunity to come together as a community and decide on the rules and regulations that will present our game in the best way possible. Opportunities like this need to be taken advantage of!

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

My best work is definitely with the Snake boards. Look at these puppies:

Now take a look at these threads:

Techs Every Snake Should Know
140.85 - The Solid Snake Matchup Database
Snake vs. Marth (A subsequent discussion thread of the SSMD)
Under Construction (FAQ + Q&A) (a thread originally started by T*H*O*R in 2008, revived and restarted by myself recently. Still in the works.)

The Snake boards were modless for about 6 months before I was put into a position of power, and since then, I like to say I've done a good job of restructuring the forum, bringing in additional Snake mains, and overall making the Snake boards one of the more well run forums on the site, especially when it comes to character forums. I'm really proud of that. :p

This is a neat opportunity, to apply for such highly regarded positions. Thanks for the opportunity!

If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I've assisted with the Holy Smash tournament series (Holy Smash and Holy Smash: Exodus) (Results Thread [1]) (Results Thread [2]), which featured 33 and 38 players, respectively. These tournaments featured players such as Red Halberd, Xaltis, Chaz, Poltergust, and Afro Thundah. On the basis of the comments posted in the results and tournament thread(s), the participants enjoyed their tournament experiences with few (if any) complaints.

The primary host of the tournament is currently experimenting with the integration of the Recommended BBR 3.1 Stage list as well experimenting with rules to assist with balancing Meta Knight.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I consider myself to be relatively well-educated on competitive Brawl. I use a wide variety of characters, however my most common choices at this time are Meta Knight, Falco, Mr. Game and Watch, R.O.B., and Donkey Kong. I consider it to be important to understand every character and every opponent, and consider them accordingly. I do indeed investigate the physics in Brawl. I am currently investigating the possibilities for purposefully baiting an opponent into whiffing a grab via abnormal terrain (e.g. the slopes on Yoshi's Island [Brawl]).

As far as mind sets and thought processes go, I am very experimental and thoughtful about this. An example of this would be a post that I made for higher level players to experiment with allowing Falco to chain grab Meta Knight in order to abuse a common negative mind set that I have found in sub-top level Falcos (Post [3]).

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attend a tournament (typically featuring a ranked player) virtually every week and have done so every week for the past few months. In addition to the tournaments I attend, I travel several hours on a weekly basis in order to attend Smashfest(s) and to transport other Smash players.

Although it may not count (I can understand why they would not), I consider Florida's monthly state-wide tournaments to be a regional due to the fact that there are often players driving nearly 10+ hours from the north (it's practically another state) and 6+ hours from the south in order to meet half way at Central Florida. These tournaments also feature players such as Shaky and Nick Riddle in the 7th place slots (Full Results Post [4]).

I have not attended a tournament outside of Florida, however, in addition to U.S. players visiting in Florida, (as an applicant above me (C.R.Z) has stated) some U.K. players attended a Floridian tournament where I met them.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

My tournament performance has varied as long as I have played the game (as is common), however I am becoming increasingly consistent with my placings; I've placed in the top 5 at the past couple of tournaments that I've entered -- all of which featured top players.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

I'm anticipating catching Zekrom; I've been hoping for a Dragon/Electric type since R/S/E.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

There are numerous aspects that I wish for the Brawl Back Room to look into. This includes issues such as a different timer, possible alternatives to a universal ledge grab rule (that isn't an air/ground/etc. timer), etc.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

By admitting me into the Brawl Back Room, it would gain a reasonable, well-educated contributor who posts on a near-daily basis.

Examples of my contributions are generally in the Q&A type threads in the Meta Knight character board. I also critique videos there. I briefly attempted to assist in the R.O.B. boards, but it took very little time for me to realize that most efforts there would be wasted due to the unreceptive audience.

If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

Yes. I hosted a tourney at a library. The library had a room outside of the quiet area, which was big. Unlike most hosts I look for venues with excellent cuisine around the area. As well as restaurants, accessory shops (Like Radioshack and Gamestop), fast food, and areas for smashers to smoke if they use cigarettes. I do not condone use of illegal drugs at any tourney.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I specialize in Wolf. I know everything about Wolf. From frame data, to tech skill, to AT's, and matchups. I look more into people's playing styles in friendlies and associate the necessary style of play I need for that person. I note weaknesses and what they look for me to do to advantage themselves.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I'm pretty sure every person on the Ec knows me almost. Also, a bunch of Wc, Midwest, and South. I have attended nationals before. I went to Pound 4 and Apex 2. I attended the regional Xanadu in Maryland. I attend tourneys at least once a month during school times and around 2-3 times a month in the summer/winter times.

I post on smashboards, neoseeker, brawldomain, brawlfriendcodes, allisbrawl, wiipals, and talk with even my college game room people about playing competitively or learning to get batter at super smash brothers brawl.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

Adversity and a Wolf main. No Wolfs are in the back room. I am one of the only Wolf's to consistently think up ideas, argue, and discuss. I also look for new AT's quite often.

The BBR looks badly upon Wolf based on the tier list. He never moves or gets anything even considered for him. I know Wolf has potential and is better then his current tier list presumes. I can give valid discussion to the BBR for information about Wolf because it seems no one else does.

Hey, my name is Alex Featheringill, here on smashboards as stingers. I've been playing smash competitively for 4 years now, going to my first Melee tournament shortly after creating this account (an NC local series named Munkaid, which I'm sure none of you have ever heard of), but they were fun enough to keep me coming back and keep me in the scene. From the start of Brawl, I've been dedicated to this game and trying to become the best I can be. Starting out as a scrub from melee and working my way up to the top (of NC :chuckle:) has been incredibly fun, and I think the community as a whole has been the single greatest influence on my life since I've started playing. I love this place, and joining the BBR would just be a great way for me to continue on helping the community.

Questions:

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
I've hosted 2 tournaments, Stongertron and 99% Melee, running both games and getting average NC turnouts (about 30 people all in all for both games). Tournaments in NC as a whole are generally run in areas that are free, for example houses/apartments or common rooms in colleges, it's rare that we end up getting an actual venue (though we have started recently with a new series called Battleaxe Chronicles, hosted at a game store, and it's turning out quite well, last one had over 30 people for each game IIRC).

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
Hmm...I'd say I know the MOST about characters, simply because I play this game so much, I have adequate experience with nearly every character, as well as the fact that I have tons of free time + leads to me often lurking character boards just to learn things from character mains about their characters. Of all the characters, I know the most about my main, ROB. I've been a dedicated ROB main since the summer of 2008 (though I mained MK for about 6 months from early 2010 to late summer), but I'm back to all ROB now, and here to stay =].

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I attend almost every brawl tournament held in NC, and travel whenever possible (I don't have my own car, so I basically only travel OoS when I can go with other NC). I'm the leader of the Brawl PRs in NC, which you can find here. Outside of the NC scene, I know the top players of basically every state in the US, and randomly Australia because I lurk their forums when I'm bored at 4 in the morning because they're active >.> (Corpsecreate ***** :)). Basically, I've got a lot of knowledge on the US scene as a whole (and Australia lmao).

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
I'm currently ranked #2 in North Carolina.

5/29 @ Sleepy's Super Awesome Birthday Bash
33/148 @ MLG Raleigh
1/26 @ Battleaxe Chronicles
4/30 @ Gathering of the Bretheren
25/64 @ Xanadu

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Zekrom, he looks like a robot ;)

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
Hmm, I see the BBR is a governing body that is here, for the majority of smashboards, to release tier lists and rulesets. Frame Data coverage is provided by the smash lab, and character matchups are provided by character boards. Tournament results compilations and matchup compilations are personal projects by individual members, not the BBR. What's left? I think the BBR could do more work on, if it wants to be seen as a group of knowledgeable and influential members of the site, releasing more/better compilations of knowledge, such as general guides or video tutorials for newer members.

What could I bring to the backroom? Well, Atlantic South representation for one (Florida is basically their own scene, to be honest, they don't really travel). Besides that, I'm probably the biggest wealth of ROB knowledge you will find...and I've got lots free time =p

In the Smash scene I go by the name Ran, due to the obscene amount of Ryan's that pollute the world. I'm one of the main tournament organizers in Louisiana and I have been playing Brawl since the release of the game. I never played Melee, aside from a casual game with friends until I started to attend Smashfests with the Brawl players there. Throughout my entire career as a Brawl player, I have almost always been Power Ranked in my state. I've been told that I'm not too horrible at Melee now, for what it's worth. As a fun fact, I turn twenty-five on the 17th of October. I digress with the drivel, time to move on to the questions.

Questions:
1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I am currently the tournament organizer for the New Orleans area. My monthly tournaments have been held now for the past five months without fail. Before this, I had run many random tournaments during the duration of Brawl. I would say that I have run at least ten tournaments in Louisiana over the years. My current events feature both Brawl and Melee, which provide a total count of 30 players attending the events on most cases. The average attendance for Brawl hovers around the 20 man mark, as long as school or work doesn't prevent car pools from coming.

Since the start of my NOM [New Orleans' Monthlies] tournaments, I have struggled with a means of providing a fun environment for the lesser players in the state. In San Antonio, they had started to do what was known as the Redemption Bracket, where players who failed to make it into the money, were entered into another new bracket in an attempt to win their money back. For the first few tournaments, I attempted this but I found that I was still introducing Novice players into the harsh, unforgiving world of competitive Smash without much of a primer.

Eventually, I settled on a Novice bracket which I have just concluded with using for the first time. You can read about it in its thread.

Aside from running my own tournaments I help out at every event that I attend around the state, or even if they are being run by a separate community such as SRK. Even when I go out of state, I offer my hand to Xyro and UTD Zac to run HOBO and Phase. I strive to make every tournament I go to a positive experience for the players there, even if it means that I drain myself from being at peak competitive level. Just last Saturday, I didn't enter any of the events at my personal tournament due to various player-driven issues that arose.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I would say that I specialize the most in teaching the game. I find that I have a plethora of knowledge of how the game is played, and how characters function in match ups but as with many mid-range players I'm lacking the catalyst that moves me to the next plateau of skill. However, I have a tremendous ability to teach what I know to people. Rather than the standard 'beat them until knowledge is absorbed' approach, I am able to explain to people what they are doing wrong, and how they can perform better.

A clear-cut example would be my thread in the Snake Forum, where I am one of the more productive posters there. I created a laundry list of things that I personally felt were necessary to become better, and further elaborate on it every few months.

I have had players walk up to me and thank me when I go to tournaments for my posts on the Snake board. It's pretty flattering to have that happen. I love to teach, and so I am always looking for more information to pass down to other players. I'm not a hoarder, since I believe that if everyone becomes collectively better, then I will become better because of my efforts.

For the longest time, I was a character specialist that only relied on Snake in tournament. That's no longer the case, but I am incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to Snake in every level of play. I even went as far to breakdown Ally systematically in a thread that I provided to the Snake community.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I attend at least two local tournaments a month, or more if they happen to be running. On the regional level, I attend at least one Texas tournament every month unless I'm lacking in the money fund for Smash. When it comes to my Local scene, I'm a massive contributor to the Louisiana power ranking committee. I'd like to feel that I'm a pillar of the community, due to the fact that I constantly proud people to introduce new players to the scene, come to smashfests, and to become better.

I run the Facebook group for our Louisiana scene which current has one hundred members, but more importantly I noticed a trend that the players in the North of our state had people that wanted to play, but had no tournaments. After a week of work, I was able to secure to players into a tournament organizer tandem and have provided the motivation and the guidance necessary for them to create their own scene.

When it comes to the regional area, I am known to many of the Houston players as friends at this point. I have attended at least ten Texas tournaments at this point, so I've gotten to know them all incredibly well. Nationally speaking, I'm only known through posting on the boards, but I do remain in contact with many high level players around the US.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
Locally, I'm the 5th best in the state of Louisiana. The only players that I have lost to in the past six months are Lee Martin, Hyro, and Jnig when it comes to players in my state. Two of those players are house hold names, and Jnig has proven to be a player on Hyro's level. I routinely place fourth in the tournaments that are held in Louisiana, and when I travel out of state I see a decline in my placing. For the past eight months, I was attempting to exclusively use Marth in order to foster a better secondary. This lead to a general decline in my placings in Texas. The last major tournament I went to in Dallas was Quakecon where I actually used my best character and placed significantly better.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
If I pick the white one, it's racism, but if I pick the black one, it's affirmative action.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
I have always felt that there has been a general disconnect with the Back room and the community which has caused me to make various topics in regards to it. The main thing that I feel that needs to be worked on the most is maintaining a high level of activity when it comes to voting in the back room. Numerous policies of every facet of the game have dictated by a few active Back Room players, while the rest remain dormant in the discussion and in the voting process.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

My Second Thread on Smashboards.

I am an active voice, who writes cohesively about the topics that are up for debate. I'm not afraid of calling mistakes out, and more importantly I speak from the view point of someone caught without the crossroads of their Smash career. At one point, I was tirelessly working on a movement to get Meta Knight banned for six months, where I collected information and was prepared to write a ten thousand word document to post on Smashboards. I had managed to reach almost three hundred members into the group that I had created, until I ultimately shut it down to due lack of progress and a loss of the general purpose.

I have only one simple goal when it comes to Smash at this point. I want the scene to become larger, and I will do whatever is necessary to facilitate larger tournaments and at the moment I feel that the best method to achieve that is through fostering a better relationship with our lower level players.

More importantly, I have a close relationship with top players that simply have a lack of desire to post information through onto the board, but I have at times transcribed for them. I routinely play with Lee Martin and Hyro, and both of them are laaaaaaaaazy <3 <3 <3 when it comes to posting on the board. They both have an incredibly depth of knowledge, but won't always communicate it due to wanting to do other things with their time. Not everyone has the motivation to post long articles to make other players better, or they have achieved a level of apathy due to being ignored by vocal low level players.

PS: I hardcounter Inui-Logic and Inui-Debates due to an ability to reason with the beast. If you admit Inui into the Back Room, you will undoubtedly need me there.

Hi, I'm Denzi, Discussion Leader of the Falco Boards.

I've been around for a decent while and I know a good amount about Brawl, and I figure that being in the BBR would allow me to use my knowledge to further the Smash scene.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I am not what you would generally think of as a TO, but I have held (and will continue to hold) several small scale tournaments for my school and players in the surrounding area. I follow about 98% of the BBR ruleset, adjusting minor things like stagelist to better suit the preferences of the players (because this is a schoolwide tournament there are obviously some lower caliber players).

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

If there's one area of the game I specialize in, it's in character knowledge, particularly Falco. I've been with Falco the longest, but I try to learn a lot about every character I play. Because of that, I have at least a decent amount of knowledge of around half the cast, if not more. I do also enjoy a sort of "theory-crafting" aspect of the game, and will often try to apply different styles to test their degree of success.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attend tournaments whenever I get the chance, it's just difficult sometimes because of school. I, along with a few others, am one of the driving forces behind an attempted revival of the NEOH smash scene, and along with Chronodriver Lokii have started weekly smashfests in the area. I would also say I'm fairly familiar with the regional scene, playing against people like Shugo decently often.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I don't think I would be able to find results, as the tourneys with results threads were all a while ago. I generally place by the lower end of the spectrum, but I attribute that to nerves and/or matchup knowledge (there are a lot of unexpected chars in Ohio). I've also lost out simply due to the pool I was placed in (ugh M2K).

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

As far as looks go I sort of like Reshiram better, but overall I'd have to say Zekrom because I really happen to like the Electric type.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I think the BBR is good with what it's doing now, but I do think it needs to make sure it stays on top of things, gets things out in a timely manner, makes decisions backed by solid reasoning, and as always has the good of the community at heart.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

As I said, I'm DL of the Falco boards, so there are a multitude of posts there that exhibit my knowledge of Smash and in particular, my knowledge of the character. I've also been trying to keep things in line recently due to our lack of a dedicated mod.

http://www.smashboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=173

I also run the matchup discussion, and I figure that poses as proof of my organizational skills.

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=259481

I also had several posts in a thread (I can't remember which) right after the most recent Apex in which I again demonstrate knowledge of my character.

Also while not created by me, I could link to a few NEOH threads that I've been behind/contributed major ideas to.

All in all, I believe I'm a good candidate because of my knowledge of the game, as well as my not quite as good (but constantly improving) playstyle.

This will probably get me nowhere due to massive bias, but here goes anyways just so the BBR can have a good laugh. ;)

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

Yes. Very, very successful. I used to actively host out of a hotel and attracted ~50 players on bad days. Apex 1 was ran at that venue by me and Alex Strife. I actually run stuff on time, enforce DQ rules, and don't let friendlies make the tournament take forever. I will just unplug your controller and make you get up. I just started hosting again and have a lot of hype already for my first event.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

Doubles. Everyone knows me as the guy that loves doubles and is really good at it and likes to talk about it. Most players aren't doubles specialists. I'm also much more knowledgeable about low tiers than most players. More people have been coming to me for advice than previously, which means I must be doing something right.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I am easily one of the most active players around. I typically spend one or two Saturdays of the entire year not at a tournament. I'm very familiar with everything, and most people are familiar with me. I travel frequently.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

http://allisbrawl.com/medals.aspx?id=4424

Off and on. I started off as a top player, fell for a bit and became inconsistent, but recently I've been doing extremely well in both singles and doubles with wins on Logic, Dabuz, Vinnie, Atomsk, Swordgard, Shadow, BigLou, and others in the last two months.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

N/A

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I feel that the BBR doesn't give much attention to doubles and doesn't know a lot about low tiers, so I'd probably focus on those areas. I've been back there before and know I'm definitely right about this, no offense.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Unnecessary. You all probably know enough stuff already, not even trying to sound arrogant. I'll be bringing a somewhat improved Inui that usually avoids trolling and doesn't fall for flamebait as much anymore, as well as one with an improved competitive attitude that anyone that knows me can vouch for. I am a major leader in my area. I am a top player, a very good host, a member of the NJ rankings panel, and a driver for my state's players.

-I haven't been to tournaments much, but I host a lot smashfests with several people all around the country.

I share a lot of interest in several techs and characters. The most interesting is the not so much know things of the character. Also the stage list is a lot of interest for me. I always look into stages and try to see if they could be used for competitive play.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

Unfortunately my country doesn't run many tournaments. Like once a year.
But I do host these smashfests a lot here around Finland, like twice a month of more.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Unfortunately I can't find the results since I can't access the forum they are in, but I got 2nd in doubles with my partner Vurky. Our team was MK and Ness.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Reshiram

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

The aspects we are not fully knowledged of yet.

I would bring everything I could. Basically all the information I have gathered, since I lurk around a lot. I haven't made a lot of big research, but I have participated a lot on ROB boards with matchups and stages.

In the past, me and a few friends had a good tournament series called "Paradigm" in New Jersey. We had regularly good turnouts, and i believe that they where fairly successful. both tournaments had a relatively cheap venue fee, 3$ and then 5$. We had cheap home made snacks, and low cost drinks and pizza at the venue as well.

http://allisbrawl.com/forum/topic.aspx?id=129598

i also cohosted a small tournament series with thiocyanide at a local gaming store near me called gaming world. The results where only like 10-12 people and i won like every single one except for a few random ones that people like inui came to, or the few times the tournament didnt finish. However, this was a weekly friday tournament, and doing this really helped me learn how to host properly, and make tournaments run smooth within a time limit. I also just enjoy hosting. I plan to start running events in Europe as soon as i am more settled in living in a new country, and in school

As a side note i have also helped out at numerous regional and national tournaments with the main event hosts, and i have Never made money from being a tournament host even at my own events ever. I truly just enjoy tournaments and the community, and its my goal to help everyone get better.

Id probably say my strong point in brawl is Realistic theory craft. I at this point in the 2010, now almost 2011 scene have gone to a fair number of tournaments, and it has given me the experience to theory craft very well in a adaptive nature, while still staying within the realistic concept of what happens in a tournament match.
Over the course of brawl i have full mained, Fox, Marth, Falco, and MK. Now i specialize in Metaknight, as i have a very competitive mindset and decided to take my best character option and use it to its fullest potential. My falco however has taken sets from players like Snakee and Diembrandon, gone last hit last stock with atomsk, and has been used as a strong cp character to take games from players like malcolm, zucco, yes! and izumi.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

Currently i am the first american brawler to move to europe for a extended period of time - 5 years. In america i was Ranked 4th in new jersey and was an active player since 2008
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=255051
as far as local scene i was great, i have some very good oos and regional placings, and ive been to a few nationals, but in my opinion performed poorly at them.
I have travelled as South as MD/VA and as north as MA for brawl.

I plan to travel to a lot of european countries to play brawl tournaments and look deeper into how we both interpret the brawl metagame. I really think as far as linking the Eurobrawl community and the US one, i would be the best choice.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
1. we need Proper frame data and hitboxes for every character in the game.
2. we need a proper way of looking into and interpreting matchups, especially at different player levels.
3. we need a better way of dealing with the community in regards to stages and rulesets.

i think as far as applying all of this knowledge, i have a lot of experience

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?[/QUOTE]

I cant link to anything specific, because unlike a lot of popular posters, i dont write wall of text posts. Just a lot of small insightful ones.

However if you do look on the mk boards, i am constantly active there, and i am one of the only more experienced players really trying to push the metagame. Im sure Kaffei or P4 or any of the more active mk posters would vouch for me in that, even budget player cadet who i bash heads with a lot.

Na I'm not a tourney host.

I know some of all of the cast. I also like to think about the right mind sight to have will playing. I like to believe positive thoughts produce results. If you're negative about things you'll do worse then if you have a clear mind. I have some experience in this when I first started attending tournies. Although it's been a while since I've entered. When it comes to the cast I like to know what stages a character excels on. I don't care too much about the game physics since a lot of that stuff is long and pretty boring however, I've read up on it just to better understand DI and how the attacks work.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I haven't been to a tourney since Feburary I think and I showed up too late to register because they time they didn't update that the tourney was going to start early. I tend to look at result threads from all events just to say what character is placing where and who.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Terrible when I did attend tournies I was still new. I think my best placing was at one of the VC's but outside of top 8 they lost the results. Everything else is either last of me not making it out of pools.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I don't think you guys have a general feel for the competitive scene nor do you understand what makes some areas success. You're recommend rules and stage list is a joke.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Knowledge and passion. I enjoy this game and enjoy playing. I love trying to improve myself and help others to improve. I believe that knowledge is power. I also think i would bring a different mindset.
