Character/Player Success Rankings - Updated: 03/04/11

Character/Player Success Rankings​

Hey guys this is the Character/Player Success Rankings. What this thread does, is it takes the success of the top 5 player's ranks of each character and then using points, ranks them depending on how well their top players do. The points for each character are decided by a very simple formula. You take the top 5 mains of that character, add all of their ranks together, and divide that by 5. Afterwards, you take the top 5 mains/secondary users of that character, add all of their rankings together, and divide that by 5. You now take those 2 numbers and average them. The lower the numbers, the better the rank.

This is pretty cool lol. The result is extremely close to what I think the tier list should look like

Are the rest of the characters going to be displayed?

I don't really agree with this list at all, but good work on it and nice idea.

I wish that list would actually be updated lol.

Er, Mr.Doom uses only Ike, unless he used someone else briefly way back at the start of Brawl. Why is he on the secondary list?

edit2: I just checked the excel file and KingKong is in there. The question is, why didn't Zzgashi put him on the list

did you only look at ike? mains are considering only who mains the character, the secondary adds in also who uses the character as a secondary, but not exclusively those who use them as secondaries.

this is why for say, peach, there's king beef as the highest peach, unless you take into account vinnie, who uses her as a second.

also according to this i'm the overall second best ness in the nation

You didn't read what I typed out at all.

Mr.Doom only uses Ike to the best of my knowledge. Every tournament result I've seen with him was only Ike. Yet he is in the secondary's list.

au contraire

it doesn't matter whether or not the person only uses a character as their one and only character. mew2king, for instance, ONLY uses MK and he's in both the main and secondary categories. the secondary category is both for mains AND secondaries.

if you're taking issue with that then that's fine, but it's that way with all the categories; when it says secondaries it's including mains in there, too, so it's the overall top 5.

If he uses him in normal tournaments, not only low tiers. If so, have him tell Rajam to add him to his list. If not, tell Ally to use him in normal competition.

Same as the Ally/Falcon thing but the other way around. If he truly only uses Ike, have Rajam take that character of the list. If he does use him though, the character stays. And to be honest, having a secondary wont effect Ike, it just helps the other character as well. Oh you mean why is he in the Main AND Secondary listings. The Rankings are decided by 2 different groups, People who main that character, and people who just uses him. He mains Ike so therefore he of course uses him. The users part is there to help out characters like sheik who otherwise would have almost zero representation due to the fact that most sheik players mostly use other characters. I hope that helps to explain.

And to make things more clear, I'll change Secondary Users to Mains and Secondary Users.

But I think instead of basing it off of Rajam's list you should look at tournament results yourself.
I'm sure if you asked him he has a list of them, plus you can go through tons of more recent ones.
A lot of people that has main on their name really doesn't main that character anymore.

Plus, what if during tournament people used their secondary more to beat x person/character instead of their main? Or used secondary more than said main.

If they use they're secondary more for one particular match up or person, then that's exactly what a secondary is used for and wont effect anything. If they use their secondary more than their main, then they should get that switched around to be accurate. There isn't much I can do about finding that out unless someone else points that out to me. Im not psychic or anything haha.

lol. TECHNICALLY your the second best player who uses ness, not specifically the second best ness

Limit129 uses Bowser and is ranked at 1164

edit: Kirk uses Bowser every now and then but I'm not sure how often for regular tournaments.

I just came in 4th in a tourney yesterday so I guess I'll rise. And these lists are stupid because character rankings thread takes certain tourneys with higher weight (Like Mlg)...

I know. It wasn't anything against you at all.
It's more about people not even knowing wtf is going on. Simple things like who plays the characters anymore and who is good with them. Things no one bothered to look into or anything then making a guess on what they've heard.

Also, Is Cr4sh in here? I only checked Ness and Pit actually. Good **** though.

It's more about people not even knowing wtf is going on. Simple things like who plays the characters anymore and who is good with them. Things no one bothered to look into or anything then making a guess on what they've heard.

oh yeah, i understand. i knew that when i made the thread, hahah...it was ambitious and idealistic, but a bit naïve to think that everyone would have the right ideas of each individual character and not overstep their boundaries into characters they knew nothing about. good idea, but ultimately impossible. like communism!

z'zgashi is doing much of the same thing, just interpreting rajam's data in a different way. but i can tell you from experience, it's not the best indicator of player skill; i love and use ness seriously, but usually only in the first round of tournament because i know i won't get anywhere with him otherwise. for this reason i always demand that ness be put on my rankings (because i am the best after all) but he's literally only useful to me against first-round opponents and against wario on brinstar, that's all.

point is, if i went to a tournament and played...i dunno, falcon first round against someone who had a low seed, i'd then technically be a falcon secondary and, thus, the best falcon player in the nation according to this list. though i guess it depends on what secondary means to you...does it mean an actual secondary character, or an actual secondary character you expect to win with against talented players

so yeah the system is flawed and i'm getting tangential but it's not z'zgashi's fault; this list is like mine, only it's using actual data and statistics rather than just hear-say and speculation, which is admirable.

rajam'll probably have a huge update for apex and everything after. will you update then?

I wouldn't want to play an aggressive Falco when that's a losing strategy either.

I think this list is more of how many tournaments you've attended, compared to how well you have placed.
