Rules/Formats: We try to adhere to major tournament standards with as little modifications as possible. Thus, the rules we go by are the same rules encouraged by places such as Evo and the Smashboards.

Universal Rules:
[collapse=Rules]- All brackets are double elimination.
- Double-Blind Select can always be chosen to begin a match.
- The winner of a game must stick with the same character used to win for the following game, except in the case of Smash Bros. Loser can always change characters.
- Player's Choice: All rules are subject to be ignored if agreed upon by both parties, however due to time constraints, matches cannot be extended longer than their allotted time (i.e. cannot play best 3 out of 5 when supposed to play 2 out of 3, or cannot change timer limits to infinity)
- Please Bring Your Own Controller: While there will probably be many players willing to lend you a controller/stick, there is NO guarantee. You WILL be disqualified if you cannot start the match within the allotted time.
- Players have six minutes to report to and begin their matches and will be disqualified if unable to do so.
- It is the player's responsibility to notify a staffer over a dispute on rules.
- Staffers will be identifiable through the use of name badges.
- Button mapping and converters ARE allowed while turbo is NOT.
- Winners are required to notify staffers of the results of their match. This will speed up the process greatly and help us run a smooth tournament.
- Wireless sticks/pads/remotes will be allowed. However, we require that you pull out your battery when you are not playing to avoid disrupting tournament matches.
- In addition, pausing or restarting the game/match for any reason, except with the consent of the opponent will result in a forfeit of that particular game/round (whichever is smaller). This includes battery/controller problems.
- Every person is responsible for the functionality of their controller. A "button check" may (and should) be asked for prior to every match. A player cannot request a button check once damage has been taken and must finish the game (but may ask for another button check at the beginning of the next game). If a controller is non-functional or is functioning incorrectly, the player must receive consent from his or her opponent before pausing the match. [/collapse]SSBMelee:
[collapse=Rules]- 4 stock, 8 minute time limit
- 2/3 games, 3/5 games Loser's/Winner's/Grand Finals
- Items off
- Games decided first by lives, then %. Sudden death is used to break ties.
- Stage Knock Out: Stage Striking will be in effect for the first match of the set. The player with the lower port will get to choose the first strike. Loser chooses ban before next match.
- Modified DSR: You cannot go back to the last stage you won in a set, unless agreed upon by the other player.
- Advanced Slob Picks: Loser may choose the next stage or select to go random. The winner may then change their character, followed by the loser.
- Controller Mods, Glitches (IC Freeze Glitch, Mewtwo Soul Stunner, etc), Wobbling, and tactics used to stall a match (wall-bombing, rising pound), are banned.

- 3 Stock, 8 minute timer
- Items are set to "off" and "none"
- 2/3 games, 3/5 games Loser's/Winner's/Grand Finals
- Players are allowed to ban ONE Starter/Counter stage prior to a match.
- At the beginning of the first game, players alternate "slashing" starter stages until one stage is left.
- Advanced Slob Picks: Loser may choose the next stage or select to go random. The winner may then change their character, followed by the loser.
- In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors
- Port slob picks: On a player's counterpick, that player may opt to redo the port selection process with that player picking his or her port first.
- No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
- Games decided first by stock and then by percentage. If percents are the same or both players die simultaneously, there will be a 1 stock overtime. Bowser's suicide klaw is exempt from this rule.
- If a game ends with Bowser doing his suicide klaw and it ends in sudden death, the sudden death will be ignored and that game will count as a win for Bowser.
- Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.
- Stalling is banned. Stalling: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs must end quickly after 300% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling.

2v2 Teams:
YOSH said:
I saw someone was wondering about teams in brawl if it's wanted and if there's time. The only change/s to the rules are that team attack is turned on, and the controller ports go as 1 2 2 1 (or 2 1 1 2), and again, if there's a dispute on port then RPS is played. There is generally a courtesy that if a team has a Sonic or a Lucario, then that team gets to choose the blue color because their red and green colors make it difficult to distinguish which team they're on.

Tentative ruling on all game-breaking glitches which make it impossible for at least one player to continue fighting (such as the Zero glitch):
- If the instigator of the glitch is winning before he performs the glitch, the game is to be replayed as if it never happened. If he/she is losing, the game counts as a loss.
Other glitches (i.e. TAC canceling and damage scaling reset glitches) are ALLOWED.

[collapse=Details]We encourage everybody to bring any and all equipment if possible. This will speed up tournaments and help everything run more smoothly. We request that all equipment be "checked-in" 30 minutes before tournaments begin to run the smoothest possible tournament.

We require all incoming equipment be labeled at Check-In to avoid theft and accusations thereof. Even so, we encourage all people to keep their sticks/controllers/battery packs on-hand at all times as we are not responsible for missing equipment.

Photography of the event and recording of matches is allowed and even encouraged. However, flash photography is not allowed during matches, due to obvious concerns of distraction. If you record videos or take pictures, please contact me and I will upload the videos to my Youtube account and pictures to my Photobucket account, accessible to everybody on the results page (credit given to you, of course).

The official ARK III stream will be hosted by Arkansas' own Rawkus with a separate recording station for the non-Capcom games run by GBS Giovanni. As before, stream station matches will be available for all to see via projector. ARK III is also proud to welcome SRK's Snoooootch who will provide additional media coverage.

For the major tournaments (except for SSF4 and MvC3), PS3 is the console of choice used due to compatibility concerns within the community. The 360 may be used for games that are not supported on PS3 (i.e. if Garou gets voted in) or if there is not sufficient equipment. CRTs and lagless LCDs are the televisions of choice for the tournament.

We appreciate everybody that travels and we know that players are just looking for competition. If you inform us of your party, we will do our best to ensure that you do not play each other in the opening round of the bracket (location-based seeding).

Attendees are encouraged to participate in multiple tournaments. The brackets will skip you if you are currently in a match.

Any game with sufficient interest (via vote-in) will be run as a minor tournament. We reserve the right to cancel tournaments at any time if there is no "real" interest. That is, if a game gets 20 votes and only 3 people show up to the event, we will not host a tournament. Please do not vote unless you think you are going to go.

Results will be posted within 48 hours following the event. Pictures, brackets, standings, and pay-out will all be posted accordingly. [/collapse]Partners/Affiliates:[collapse=""]ARFGN - We thank the Arkansas Fighting Game Network for co-hosting A.R.K. III and allowing each iteration of the tournament to be a success. These guys are a dedicated group of gamers that are focused not only in improving their games, but also in improving the community. If you're an Arkansas resident, don't forget to join the ARFGN Facebook group to stay updated on local events happening around the region!

Conway Gaming Center feat. the Kwadkade - The other co-hosts of A.R.K. III. We thank CGC for the use of their venue and their ongoing support of the Arkansas Fighting Game Network. They have gone above and beyond what we've asked of them and they have worked hard to be at the place that they are now. I honestly believe that they are the best cardshop / LAN center in Arkansas and I encourage everyone to thank these guys at the tournament for doing such an amazing job! Also, make sure to like them on Facebook!

DFW Fight Club - The gracious hosts of the 'UPPER'-CUT Southern Championship have been excellent supporters of the ARFGN. We thank them for all that they have done, not least of which includes bringing eight complete SSF4 setups to A.R.K. III.

Andrew MacEntee of NewKind Designs - One of the first supporters of A.R.K. III and a very good friend, Andrew put up this lovely piece of work to help advertise our event. Thank you for all of your hard work, sir!

Snoooootch - Definitely one of the best out-of-state supporters of the Arkansas Fighting Game Network, Snoooootch has helped put Arkansas on the map in terms of national exposure. He recorded footage of us at Absolute Battle, he showcased one of Arkansas' best SSF4 talents, and he made the official A.R.K. III Promotional Video! Be sure to visit his official Youtube channel and subscribe!

Little Rock Game Con - Huge supporters of the ARFGN and A.R.K. III. These guys host Arkansas' largest and best joint Anime/Gaming Conventions. They have exciting news in store for everyone, so make sure to always stay updated by joining their Facebook Group!

Game Ever - Noel of Game Ever is probably the most enthusiastic supporter of gamers in the business. He runs a dedicated new-age arcade, complete with interconnected (networked) 360s/Xboxes. For the hardcore, don't worry, he has over 32 lagless monitors (tested by ARK Misfit) each with its own headphone setup to help immerse the gamer. If you live in Little Rock or you just want to drop by, visit his site here for more information!

Game Xchange of Conway - A great company with a bunch of nice employees. They've always allowed us to hang fliers at their location at no hassle.

Markman - Thank you for gracing the Arkansas thread with your kind words. You have helped spark a fire under many of our players and brought excitement to our community.[/collapse]Acknowledgments:

if you could get a more concrete number for melee attendance then i could probably get at least 4-5 houston players interested. but for now that's too far to travel without a decent (40+) sized tournout for melee

Ah, well I'll see if I can find you some numbers in the near future. It's hard because a large percentage of people going never give any notice that they're going and another large percentage only put "Attending" on Facebook without telling me exactly what games they're interested in.

I know it's a long drive and I would greatly appreciate it if Houston showed up, but as of now, I don't think we'll break 40 for just Melee. I can gauge numbers better as we approach tournament day though, so be sure to keep up with this thread!

As of right now, I would estimate that we will have approximately 20 players showing up for Melee from all across Arkansas, Memphis, and Dallas. I'd heavily encourage trying to find carpooling from other areas of Texas if they're also interested in coming. Another factor that may influence your decision is that I'm very actively working on obtaining sponsorships, advertising revenue, and promotional items. If I do, know that 100% of that will be going back to the gamers probably in the form of additional prizes or bonus pots. So you could possibly be playing 20 other people for a 40 person sized pot. Anyway, sorry for the long post but just getting everything out in the open. Thanks again for the interest!

Yo, Yoshi's the best! Interested in coming out to our tournament? Yosh is one of the best Yoshi's in the nation in Brawl (quite possibly the best).

Awesome guys! I hope to see you guys there. If you have ANY questions, please feel free to let me know. We'll accommodate you guys in any way possible. We are definitely interested in adding ANY tournaments you guys want (such as Melee doubles). The biggest problem is that we don't want to advertise something that nobody shows up for. If we can get interest from at least 8 teams, then we'll do Melee doubles!

Mark me down as interested. This would be awesome! I'll talk to the Memphis Smashers, although I'm sure BunBun and IHSB are already aware of this somehow.

Yo VTS if you're willing to host the tournies, we'll do Smash and Brawl teams. One thing that I'd also like to say is to heavily encourage everyone to come. We usually don't like to advertise/run tournaments unless there are at least 8 people/teams mostly because it's not fun for those who participate. Smash is under your control though, so do what you feel is necessary. For the sake of the Smash players though, get as many people as you can to come. Thanks dude!

Honestly, I'm a big fan of Tio, but the other tournament organizers have already decided to use Tonamento for this tournament. Are you familiar with it? It has a few distinct advantages over Tio and while there are things that I think Tio does better, I want to give Tonamento a try. Tonamento also allows everyone to use their internet capable devices (iPhone, laptop, PSP Go, etc.) to view the brackets at their own discretion and automatically seeds by location.

We'll be registering the players/teams into Tonamento and then hand off those brackets to you (bring your computer so that we can log you in). You can manually change the brackets, should you need to, prior to starting your tournament. Once the tournament has started though, this becomes impossible without recreating the entire bracket.

Anyway, Smash 2v2 and Melee 2v2 tournaments confirmed. Note that they will be canceled if there's not sufficient interest at the day of the event, but I heavily doubt that will happen. VTS- can you let us know what pot distribution you'll be using for Smash so that we can advertise it? Also, $5/person ($10/team) for team tournaments the norm?

If the mystery game is Hungry Hungry Hippos I'm so in
Trust me when I say that I've recommended that game before.

The mystery game tournament consists of multiple games which are usually fighting games, but not always. A look at some games previously used in rounds of the tournament:

Dino Rex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysbzjSERMok
Jackie Chan's Fists of Fire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K91DYKIwAPo
WindJammers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ5slLNze3M

And several more!

I'll see what I can do, but we might have to increase our venue fee to $50 each. But don't worry, we'll have stadium seating ;)

Will the guys doing the brackets know how to seed people or will they be random?

Players will be seeded primarily by location. Noone wants to drive multiple hours to play their best friend or whatever. That being said, if there is a problem with a bracket, get it resolved with VTS BEFORE the tournament starts. If you're bringing a group of people and you know that players 1 and 2 are really strong, you probably want to suggest to him to put them on opposite ends of the bracket to make it most fair for everyone. VTS can handle much of the Melee crowd since that's his game. I trust that you can handle much of the Brawl crowd since that's your game Yosh?

Updated with house-keeping, inclusion of Melee/Brawl 2v2 Teams, and a detailed, accurate (as of 3-7-11) preregistration list.

Hey guys, updated the OP.
Of note:
Full schedule is up so you know when to make it for your event.
MvC3 is now on 360. Sorry guys. We'll have PS3 -> 360 converters plus 360 sticks available.
MvC3 3v3 teams has been added as well as an exhibition MK9 tournament.
Smash 64 will be making an appearance, no tournament planned though.

Well for MvC3, you have your teammates stand next to you. Each of you picks a character. Each person is in control of one character at a time. Thus, if your teammate is playing the point character and you want your character to do an Assist attack, YOU have to hit the assist button. If your teammate gets snapped out and you get snapped in (or his char dies), he has to immediately jump out of his seat and you have to rush in and grab a seat so that you can start playing your character. If you do a Team Hyper Combo, everyone has to start mashing on random buttons on the stick. This gets slightly more awkward if you guys play on pad.

Haha, well that's how it should be run anyway. What really happens though, is that it's basically a set of 1v1 matches. Let's see A/B/C went against X/Y/Z (3v3).
A vs. X.
A beats X --> A vs. Y.
Y beats A --> B vs. Y
This goes on until one team's eliminated.
