The Official Nonrandom Ruleset v1.0
Designed by Grim Tuesday and Ghostbone.

Legal Character:
Marth

Legal Stage List:
Final Destination
Battlefield
Shadow Moses Island​

Rules:
  • Dashing is banned.
  • Grounded Side Specials and Side Smashes performed with the Control Stick are banned.
  • Stock: 3
  • Stock Match Time-Limit: 8 Minutes
  • Team Attack: On
  • Item Switch: All off, Frequency: None
  • Pause: Off
  • In the event of a Sudden Death, ignore it's results and the player who had the lowest damage percentage prior to the Sudden Death is declared the winner.
    > If both stock and percentage are identical or a game ends with both players being KO'd simultaneously then the match is replayed.​

Set Format:
  1. Both players select Marth and their costumes.
  2. Both players strike a stage each from the Legal Stage List.
  3. Match 1 is played on the stage remaining after striking.
  4. The loser of the previous match selects one of the Legal Stages.
  5. Both players are allowed to re-select their costume if they wish.
  6. The next match is played on the stage chosen in Step 4.
• Repeat steps 3-5 until a player has won 'x' amount of times. (The value of 'x' is to be determined by the tournament organiser and is not necessarily static).

Ban Criteria:
  • Any character or stage with a specific random attack or action is banned.
  • Any character with an attack that can cause random tripping is banned.
  • Any non-symmetrical stage is banned.
  • Any character that can produce a holdable item is banned.

well how will you enforce that

also i think shadow moses should be legal under this ruleset, its symetrical

and the obvious reason why held items are banned is havok engine sucks (its on the items in brawl). i mean have u seen fallout 3, people skip to the end of the game by jumping on a coffee cup

idk if you can trip out of "crawl dashing"
and the holdable items are controlled by the player(s)
they are not random. i dont think.
I dont understand the havok engine tim.

It will be enforced the same way every rule is enforced. If you see the opponent dash, call a ref over. If they do it again, the ref will see, not hard.

The control stick commands are banned because it is impossible to tell if someone ran and then used the IASA at the start of the run to cancel into a Smash/Special.

Crawl dashing is banned because it only works in one direction, which breaks random spawn points.

Holdable items are randomly knocked out of player's hands.

Why is only Marth legal?
What does randomness have to do with symmetry?
Why is Battlefield banned anyway?
Or Smashville?
Or Castle Siege?

battlefield isn't symmetric. I think FD might be. Don't see why Marth is legal though. His jab can trip, as well as stale fairs.

Should ban everything except walking Upsmashes.

No Stage is symmetric.

The were all created in a circle way, so one edge is different then the other. Not sure though if it effects anything.

Oh and I think marth can force random trips with ftilt or jab x'D
Not sure though.

They can't cause trips.

Marth is the only character in the game who cannot cause random trips with his moves.

And even if they did, just ban non-tippered attacks.

There are degenerate stalling tactics on SMI

Break pillar, camp blast zone, jump the pillar as it's coming back up, repeat.

Thio was probably talking about excessive randomness.
It's impossible to remove all randomness and be able to play the game.

Wait, a slight change needs to be made.

Music is randomly selected from the songs in My Music.

Under My Music, a single song must be set to play 100% of the time.

I tested all of his moves today like 20 times.

None ever caused a trip.


I read this, went into P-Mode.

First Fair -> Trip

:rofl:


Ganondorf can cause trip with his Jab & Upair.


And even if they did, just ban non-tippered attacks.
And btw. then we could ban all the other random moves as well, like Snakes Ftilt & UpSmash ;p



I guess this random trips also has to do with "Action 43", so even if no moves cause tripping, this does.

I read something about in a P:M discussion:

Today's blogpost two simple codes that have a broad impact on gameplay.

Grabboxes can connect regardless of player positioning:
A problem plaguing many grab-centric characters was recently fixed where a grab could not connect if the opponents TopN Bone relative to yours was negative. While this limitation at first seems reasonable, in many cases, if the opponent was basically on top of you, grabs would sometimes fail. This routine check was removed, leading to more consistent and variable grab combos.

Removal of Action 43 Random Tripping:
In Brawl - while many hitboxes have an explicit trip rate specified, trips could still occur even if the hitbox trip-rates was set to 0%. What we found was that trips could randomly occur only in the hitstun states that were too weak to launch you off the ground. The underlying cause was that Brawl programmed in a supplementary 11% trip rate for this hitstun state, action 43. This trip rate has now been set to 0%.

And this is why anyone who suggests we should remove as much randomness as possible from Brawl should be laughed off the site. It ain't happening. Move on to another game already and stop cluttering up topics with your pointless arguments.

This is a dumb thread, but just popping in to let you guys know that Fair can trip, especially if stale.

omg this, maybe we should just turn music off. a real competition should be pvp (player vs player) not pvpvm (player vs player vs music). Music just dumbs the whole thing down.

once u factor in stale moves, everyone has random trip rates. I was under the impression that moves with a downward trajectory on knockback or knockback too low to lift you off the ground had a chance to trip. Gaondorf's dair trips if you stale it and hit a heavy at 0%.
