VS SUMMARY
+2 FALCO'S FAVOR
(According to the King Dedede Panel for the BBR MU Chart 2.0)
( I also play both characters so I figure I could give good info)
This matchup is a very slow paced one centered around extreme patience. The fact of the matter is Falco can camp Dedede pretty efficiently and safely. Lasers provide excellent pressure and often times will land just based off King Dedede's massive frame. He is unable to crouch under them like some characters, so Dedede must be responsive. Good Dededes can make it past the laser barrier but will still often times have taken some damage by the time he gets within mid distance. And our Waddles don't do much for us in this MU at all. We definitely can't camp back with them.
And speaking of mid distance, this is where Dedede wants to be for the entire match. His close range game is bad, and Falco has an excellent Jab at his disposal. Dedede does have a significant range advantage on the ground and can use that to punish anything stupid that Falco throws out. Even at the risk of being Chaingrabbed, many D3s will still stay within mid distance for those choice opportunities to punish you. Anything laggy on our shield gets grabbed. Your F-Tilt is difficult to punish when spaced perfectly but D3's massive grab range makes it easier for him than most other characters. And for Falco getting grabbed is pretty bad here. We cannot chaingrab you, but you are very light and our grabs hurt. Back Throw fresh yields a whopping 16-17%. Forward Throw does 13% fresh. Depending on the Dedede, we may use Down-Throw on you and try to either F-Tilt for some quick damage or try to tech chase you.
And I know the Buuman Trap was mentioned earlier however there is one thing that was incorrectly stated about it. Even if you tech the down throw, if we have you in the perfect zone before the ledge, you will get hit regardless. Down Smash is guaranteed in this manner. For those of you who are less familiar with Dedede:

But anyway that can happen if you aren't careful.
But in general Dedede is basically waiting for you to either:
1. Throw out something mis-spaced or laggy on our shield.
or
2. Phantasm unsafely.
or
3. Just overcommit to something in general.
We have a number of moves to take you out of Phantasm. Up-Tilt and Down Tilt are the fastest and best ways of doing so. Up-Tilt kills around 110% and Down-Tilt will send you on a terrible horizontal trajectory if you are not careful. Either way if we use Down-Tilt and get you off the stage it's bad. And off stage is what we are looking for as well. Our Back Air is very dangerous for you. The sourspot especially sends people on a nearly pure horizontal trajectory. And if you ever use Fire Bird and we're able to Bair you..that should always be your stock gone right there. But this shouldn't happen too much if you're well versed in your mix ups and cancels.
So Dedede is able to punish and gimp Falco pretty well so you may be wondering why this matchup is listed as a solid advantage in Falco's favor. Fact of the matter is, Falco just racks up damage really easily on us and safely. Laser camping ALONE isn't going to win it but it definitely helps. But also I want to go over Down Throw because its so good against Dedede. Your Down Throw puts us in such a bad spot because we're fat and we fall pretty quickly. So your ability to chase us and follow through is actually easier on us. Down Throw will always give you a chance to get a solid follow up attack on us up until kill percents based on our weight. So if you get the chance to Jab > Grab in close quarters the rewards are pretty great for you. And of course the Chaingrab takes us to around 50 or so and you get a follow up..that's a lot of damage to be behind by even if we're very durable. And if you spike us from it you get a shot for even more damage.
And also getting D3 in the air also helps you quite a bit. Our aerial game isn't bad at all but Falco's aerials kind of outclass us in a direct confrontation. Falco is also really good at frame trapping and chasing people and its no exception here. Falco needs to be wary of our range but he can easily force Dedede into an airdodge or something that will allow him to follow up with Bair, Nair or Up Air. Dedede is very susceptible to aerial pressure against fast moves likes Falco's. So don't be afraid to chase after a Dedede you've got on the ropes. Especially when they are recovering.
As far as getting the kill..Falco will have a bit of trouble getting it reliably. Up-Tilt kills us around 170 or 80. Back Air and Up Smash can kill considerably earlier but it will be a bit more difficult to land those. Outside of using those straight up, your best shot for a respectable kill is when we have to recover. Super Dedede Jump covers a great distance and has Super Armor frames on its ascension...but its really punishable after that. If we ever have to use it high we risk getting hit with a powerful aerial. Falco can cover the vertical distance EASILY with his great initial jump and then try to bait or wait out a response. We can cancel Up-B at pretty much any time and good Dededes know how to mix it up. But it should still be noted that Falco is exceptional at chasing and scaring us into awkwardly using the move or canceling it at the wrong time. If you're observant you can land a good Bair or Dair.
As far as stages, Falco does best on static flatter stages like FD, BF and SV. Dedede prefers more borderline stages like Halberd, Delfino and Frigate. We also like Lylat against characters we can't CG/like to go for the ledge. Where the Dedede will take you depends on the player honestly. We like platforms in this MU since it makes getting to you a bit easier and we have a lesser chance of getting grabbed. We will also take into consideration stages that have the ability to limit your recovery since our success is also highly dependent on how well we can take advantage of it.
will always be banned in this set against you guys.
I personally don't think this MU is TOO bad for us. Most Dededes hate it however. You can rack damage super quickly and safe and play keep away from us pretty well. We can exaggerate any your mistakes and gimp you fairly well. Its just that we don't get many chances at all to if you play this correctly. We really have to work for it the entire match and chase after you while staying safe from your Jab and Grab combos. Because of our very limited chances to do so that is why I and all of the other good D3s feel this is a +2 in your favor.
