SHOWDOWN

This will be the first major Project M-exclusive tournament in the Mid-Atlantic (and actually all of Atlantic North I believe). We've gotten a lot of interest on the side at tournaments like Zenith and Pound and Genesis, but it's time for Project M to step up and blaze a trail of its own.

Prepare yourself and download the demo! We will be using Demo 2.1 for this tournament.

Big thanks to GIMR and VGBootCamp for securing the venue and running the livestream! Be sure to follow them if you don't already.

Venue fee: $10
Singles: $10
Teams: $20 ($10 per teammate)

Payouts will be roughly 60:30:10, possibly spread out to a few more spots depending on number of entrants.

Location:
Xanadu Games
3921 Vero Rd
Baltimore, MD 21227

I may be able to house some people Friday or Saturday night if they need it.

Schedule:
Saturday, July 21st
10am: Doors open
11am: Signups begin
Noon: Doubles bracket begins
2pm: Final signups for singles
3pm: Singles bracket begins

And we're gonna try to finish singles by 10pm, though we won't be "kicked out" at 10. Hopefully we'll have time for some crew battles or something.

Sidenote: There are plenty of places to eat nearby, and you can get pizza delivered here directly.

Rules:
* 4 stock, 8 minutes. In the (very unlikely) case that we are hard pressed for time and don't have enough setups, early bracket matches may be switched to 3 stock, 6 minutes.
* Sets are best of 3. Finals are best of 5.
* Items set to "off" and "none."

* Either player may call for a Double Blind character selection for the first match.
* Dave's Modified Stupid Rule: A player may not counterpick the last stage he won on in a set.

* Controller port is determined by Rock Paper Scissors if it can't be agreed upon. For doubles, the controller ports must be 1-2-2-1.
* For doubles, Team Attack is on and life stealing is allowed. Remember that Attack+Special, not the Pause button, is used to steal lives.
* Pausing during a match, unless okayed by the other player, will result in the loss of one stock for the pauser.

* If time runs out, the person with the most stock left (or least % if they are equal) wins. If the % is equal as well, play a 1 stock 3 minute match, same characters and stage.
* If the match goes to sudden death due to a suicide move (Ganon's side-B, Kirby/DDD's swallow, holding someone in a grab on a platform as it moves out of the boundaries, etc.), the one who initiated the move wins.

* Buffer set to off.
* Custom controls are allowed, but controllers modified to enhance performance are not. No turbo buttons, etc. However, removing the springs from shoulder buttons or replacing a thumbstick with a different thumbstick are ok.
* Custom music is allowed as long as it's not too distracting, but any textures or vertex hacks outside of the official team color textures are not.
* If you want to use your own SD card, a TO must overwrite the important game files (not music) in order to make sure there are no modifications. If you are caught cheating with modified game files, you will be immediately DQed without refund and banned from future events.
* In the event that the game crashes or the TV/Wii loses power in the middle of a match, that match will be restarted from the beginning with the same characters and stage. If a player uses a known glitch to intentionally crash the game or otherwise make it unfinishable, that player may be forced to forfeit the match or be DQed at the TO's discretion.

* No excessive stalling (this includes abusing Jiggs' Rising Pound and Mario's Up-B Walljump)
* No coaching during a match. Consulting someone between matches is allowed as long as it doesn't hold up the next match.
* Both players may agree to any rule or stage outside the tournament ruleset.

Stagelist:
For the 1st match, stage strike the starter list in 1-2-2-1-1-2 fashion. After the 1st match, each player bans a stage group for the remainder of the set (Players may counterpick a stage from the group they banned, and both players may ban the same group). The player who lost the previous match chooses a stage, then the player who won chooses their character, then the player who lost chooses their character.

Starters:
Battlefield
Final Destination
Smashville
Pokemon Stadium 2
Dreamland (64)
Fountain of Dreams
Yoshi's Story (Melee) (singles only)
SSE: Jungle (doubles only)

Counterpicks:
Group 1:

Something like "Project:M, Spectacular" sounds better, IMO. Adding "Super" to the end just sounds weird to me.
And sometimes I wish I lived in the east coast... :(

I AM NOT MISSING THIS.

I'll never like this stage system though.

I'll have stagelists printed out by all the setups. It's really not bad. I've used it several times and no one's had a problem with it.

Like I posted on the FB page, I'll know in a few days if I can go (just gotta make sure I get off work that weekend).

EDIT: Very unusual Stage Pick system indeed. Though I suppose with the overabundance of viable tournament stages in the game, I guess it's for the best. If group 4 is meant to categorize the "big" stages however, Kongo Jungle 64 might wanna go in there.

Group 4 is "big" stages, but Group 5 is uneven main platforms, and I thought it fit there better (and made for a better number of stages in each group).

GuruKid's coming down from NY. No johns. I think it's fairly cheap to get to Baltimore by bus if you don't wanna drive.

This was the only day I could get the venue. But if it's successful, hopefully I'll be hosting more here.

I'll probably gonna be able to go since I'm moving to DC the week prior. Though, I've only played P:M once before so I'm gonna have no idea what I'm doing lol. I might just play friendlies and not enter.

Is Ohio confirmed yet? NY's gonna need some sort of competition at this; can't just leave Tyler having all the fun by himself.

Oh yeah I went there!

They confirmed on the smashmods thread. And most of the locals confirmed on the facebook event. The hype is fractured but it's there haha.
