Notwithstanding co-origins and crossovers like Mario, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi, try and compose a roster of 40 characters, each from a different series. Yes, that means you'll be cutting a lot of veterans, but introducing a lot of newcomers as well. Try and stay Nintendo-centric, but really do whatever you deem best fit for Smash Bros. Also: put them in chronological order by which they entered the world.
Let's see if we can't compose a roster of 40 individual series representatives. I'm personally having a difficult time perfecting and finishing this, and while I've taken some 3rd-party liberties, here's what I've devised:
[collapse=The Roster 40]
Missing just one, while others will/should most likely change. Either way, it's a start to what I deem an inventive approach to roster selection. Instead of celebrating 19 series (Brawl), we have 40 different series represented each by a single character. A bit racy considering a number of beloved have been cut, but uh... just give 'em Assist Trophy status and hahahahahaha. This is extremely unlikely and is based solely on the idea of composing a 40-character roster out of 40 representative series, to justifiably reflect the years through which this pantheon of gaming has grown.
Have fun.
