I officially dub September 2008, Super September as far as Australian Smash goes. So much is happening this month in our corner of the world, it's amazing.

First up, in just a couple of days on the 7th will begin the 'GotGames National Brawl League', wherein CAOTIC and GotGames.com.au (Australia's Answer to MLG in a way), are hosting state ladders that players will compete for top spots on (Either in person, or over wifi if they cannot meet in person).

At the end of this, a state qualifier will be held in each state, in which the top 8 placer's will have counter picking advantages, and the top four will by pass preliminary rounds entirely! Winners of these state qualifiers will be paid travel stipends to go to the National Finals.

At the national finals, players from all states will also form crews where crew battles will take place to determine the next host city!

As if that wasn't enough to get people active, big things are happening in nearly all of the states of Australia.

Lets start with New South Wales. Shaya and his successful tournament 'BOOST' is set to see another iteration this month (Maybe next, date pending). Riding on the success of the first tournament held last month, he hopes to produce the magic again. For a number of years, this state has tried to get its tournament scene off the ground, and Shaya might just be the man to do it with Brawl. On the Melee side of things, smasher 'Kulla' has taken up the mantle, with hopes of getting Melee tournaments up and running soon. Good thing too, since some of NSW's smashers are amongst the most vocal Melee lovers in Australia.

Queensland is really roaring into gear, with a duet of back to back tournaments. On the 20th, I am directing the Animania Convention Brawl Tournament, and despite being an 'Items on' affair, I hope to use this tournament to boost interest in my next tournament 'Queensland Brawl Buddies' to an even higher level.

Queensland Brawl Buddies is pitching itself as a National Tournament, wherein 3 different Australian states other than Queensland are going to be representing at this tournament, Including New South Wales, Victoria, and the Country's Capital Territory. Boasting numbers that could very well reach 100+, it is proving to become one of, if not the, largest Smash tournament in the country's history, boasting Singles and Doubles events for Both Melee and Brawl.

South Australia, and more to the point, Adelaide and more to the point, Smasher 'Jamage', is proving not to be any kind of slouch either. Their regular LAN scene bringing us yet another Brawl tournament to look forward to. Previous iterations of Jamage's tournaments have seen such games as Pacman, Street Fighter II and even Perfect Dark 64 tournaments supplement the already very successful Melee and Brawl tournaments being held.

Of course, there is well known Smasher "CAOTIC's" home state Victoria to talk about to. Home to the Australian Football League, Trams and Australia's core smash scene. Melbourne has stepped up its regular tournament scene more than any other, holding Monthly tournaments in conjunction with 'Couch Warriors' at the John Curtin Hotel, right above a bar. This month's tournament taking place on the 21st will see the return of Melee singles and the experimentation of '2 stock, 5 round' matches by various TO's around the world.

Last, but definitely not least, we have Perth, Western Australia, home to Mic_128 and rmusgrave (AKA Bringer of Death), and the 5th Iteration of -Cal's 'PK Brawl' tournament series. Very quickly, their tournament scene has grown from being only a handful of people, to being a respectable player base, which we'll hopefully see grow and prosper with the release of Brawl now.

*phew*

And that's just tournaments. This month will also see the release of Australia's very own 'Smash E-Newsletter'. This smash newsletter is being made with the purpose of keeping smashers up to date with the latest happenings in theirs and other states, as well as smash in general around the world.

It's been made with the mindset that there are many people out there who simply do not check smashboards very often, and this is our way of keeping people up to date. The first issue is due in about a week, so to the Australians reading this, watch your inbox!

So as I said, it's definitely a super-duper-September in Australian Smash.

In our area of the regional discussions, there have also been talking and whispers for Boston's 'Ohana' tournament in the American Summer of 2009. So who knows, Australia might just step it up and send our best crew over!
