It looks like a ton of people are looking for critique here, and I'm sorry to add to the clutter, but I'd also really like to get some advice on my play.

I'm a Toon Link main but always loved Bowser Jr. (Ludwig), decided to main him since the leak. I've been trying to improve him for a long time, but I just don't feel like I'm optimizing him enough. I'd like some advice if you guys could offer it.

Here's pretty much just a regular old match from my local. I had a great setup at 9:50, obviously messed up at 10:07, but otherwise pretty standard: https://youtu.be/W359Yg23Kjg?t=8m4s

This match was against one of the best players who's come to my local (Though it's Sheik, aren't they all good by default?). No one has taken a game off of him but I was so close, thus I choked a lot of my KO setups. Otherwise, it showcases some of my best work with Ludwig. https://youtu.be/UXCQ5i0kqUo

Thoughts? I think I need to remember D-air is a good move but otherwise any advice is appreciated!

Wathcing these matches ViceGrip ViceGrip ; why did you opt for the dash attack follow-up out of d-air rather then b-air or f-air?

yooo, ahhh u found my grand finals match haha. I hadn't posted that to this thread yet. I usually follow up dash attack after dair because it tends to catch the most people. Like if people are di'ing really well a bair and fair will not work, but a dash attack is likely to work and it does a solid 12%. I Usually react to their DI to decide if I want to bair, fair or dash attack and dash attack just happens to cover people better when they di well. if they dont di well bair is best option. That was a kind of long winded answer but that is why lol.You can also do Dair>hope they are bad and dont tech, depending on their di to try and do a jab lock, but i usually prefer guaranteed low percent combos. Hope you liked that set! TLTC is like my main smash 4 rival haha, our matches are always so heated. recently I got 3rd at a big tournament and I used Lucas and Jr., so soon i'll be dumping a bunch of videos on here, they will also be on the 2GG stream/channel.

Also I owe Lagi a video breakdown and I'll try and do one as a bonus. I'll get to em both this week! Been busy lately but still check smashboards about every day or so.

Good to hear, I really appreciate it

On a different topic, dunno if you guys have heard about this yet, but I was tired of dying even though I've teched, so I did experimentation and trying to figure out what happens, and made a video explaining it.

at 2:18 did you mean to bounce the koopa? Either way it's nice to see bounced koopa in a tourney setting.

Yupp, I use bounced mechas quite a bit as they cover more space than just throwing them straight up. they are useful on the ledge or for scaring your opponent to stay in shield if it is bouncing close to them.

If it's a video and it contains a homicidal koopa in pod copter with a clown face then it'a all good man, doubles or not.

Looks good, try to dair instead of uair when you get a kart hit, and they have under 10 Damage. Don't toss your Koopa or spawn a Koopa if the opp is invincible. Real good offstage game on the last stock, (until the very end that this lol) I'd like to see more of that.

Here it is. I definitely do a lot of unsafe things, especially like how I lost the last game. This is against the #1/#2 player in the state. (Him and another guy keep switching on the PR)

Aight man, sorry for the huge delay but I got chu. Here's what I thought of your set, very close set! Your movement is very crisp and you have a good control of the mechas (like picking them up while they walking offscreen and being sneaky with when you throw them). You also use the reelback on the side B very well to dodge attacks, I think that is one of jr.'s main strengths, such good dodge ability due to that reelback. You also use the bomb portion of the up B very well, you would get pretty good use out of that. In general you know the kart>up B confirms percents as well as the Jr. bread and butter kart combos, however at 11:46, 13:50, and 14:54, you use up B awkwardly instead of getting your guaranteed followups. I think when we have the combo confirms, it's better to just go for those, instead of fancy Up B stuff. Also at 11:11 you could have confirmed the kart>up b combo cleanly if you went for it right then. At 1:47 you get spiked by yoshi cause of getup attack, I'm gonna go ahead and say that vs anyone with a spike you should NOT use getup attack, like at all. It's not worth the risk just for a little ledge mixup, we have plenty of other options, our getup is just horrible in the sense it leaves us open to spikes. At 5:05 you do a fantastic gimp, good job! at 15:39 I disagree with using dthrow there. Dthrow is our least damaging throw and yea it gives u time to lay a mecha, but at low percents you should always go for bthrow (straight up damage) uthrow in hopes of getting uair followups, or fthrow if they are gonna be sent offstage. Dthrow I think is purely used for mecha combos or if you think it may kill off the side (but at the same time, if they are high enough to die from dthrow, they are probably high enough to die from uthrow or maybe even fthrow). at 17:39 you throw a mecha at him when he's coming off the ledge, i think throwing a mecha straight up is almost always superior when guarding the ledge, unless you have a strong read on their movement, it's just better to have the mecha cover that space in the air rather than throwing it straight at them. At 17:50 cannon got u killed and put the nail in the coffin. I saw what you were going for there, the ledge cancel and I think you were just barely off, but in my opinion, in last hit situations cannon is almost never appropriate if the enemy is anywhere nearby, it's just too risky.

So in general I think your Jr. is fantastic, definitely worth watching and getting ideas from and it looks like you do well in tourneys overall so that's great. Things to Improve on from what I saw:

1. More safe usage of down B/cannon when coming back to the stage. Try not to use those moves against high mobility characters like zss, sheik, yoshi, and falco.
2. Try using mechakoopa while driving more often, i noticed you pretty much always throw it at them, which works out a lot of the time, but you can mount better pressure sometimes if you drive with mecha in hand, experiment with uses for that, i think that's the main direction mecha pressure is going to develop in. There's only so much pressure u can put on someone by throwing a mecha at them each time.
3. I think your up b trick you do to catch the mecha is cute, but you use it after someone dies and it usually puts you in a not so great position. It reminds me of TLTC, whenever he gets the kill he will ledge cancel a bunch of times and it will usually get him punished by the guy after he respawns.

so yup, great gameplay overall! hope that helped and sorry for the delay. Nice video you posted of Jr.'s glitch, saw that awhile back.

It's probably a bit of a bad time to repost this, what with 1.1.5 just coming out (No grab buff? Really? They buffed Greninja's slow non-tether grab, but not Jr.'s? Anyway...)

Regardless, my message kinda got left behind, and I was hoping to get some advice on my play. I'm considering upgrading Ludwig to secondary status, but it depends on what I need to fix to make him better. If anyone can offer advice, that'd be much appreciated!

ViceGrip ViceGrip dude I see some sort of improvement every set I see, it's actually kind of amazing.

<3. thanks! trying to keep learning and using more tricks, especially with mechakoopas. has anyone figured any good trump tricks? I know if we can trump perfectly our bair works, but the timing is so strict I don't like it.

Hey guys, got third at this local tourney beating one of the top 3 players. He was incredibly defensive but managed to play even safer.

PD: it´s a tourney from Costa Rica, so it´s in spanish.
