So it seems like one of the places I'm getting burned the most is during a stand up on a missed tech. While not the most ideal position to be in, what do you guys think is the most conservative way to go from laying on the ground to standing without leaving yourself too vulnerable?

away forces them to react better, as they might be wary of a standup attack, but at the end of the day you just dont want to be predicted.

Falcon does have an ok-ish getup attack, but try mixing it up with neutral techs, which force you to stand up in the same place. This is the quickest alternative, and the hardest to react to, but your opponent may take this into account and attack accordingly. (Say, another falcon down-throws you. Predicting the tech in place, he can throw out a knee to catch you out of your invincibility.)
However, it's generally best to mix up your techs, just for the sake of unpredictability.

Mystic hit the nail on the head. You don't want to do the same get up everytime, you'll get read into the clearance section at Barnes & Noble. I usually start with the get up attack and start variating from there. Best of luck!

Randomizing your getup actions is best, as previously stated. Basically you just want to react to where they are. Ideally you should just hit the tech, but obviously that's easier said than done.

Tech options also go well with different DI choices as well (if the throw or attack doesn't necessarily have only 1 good choice to pick, in which case you should probably just aim for that choice). For a lot of people that are unaware, they tend to tech roll in the same direction that they chose to DI. You can take advantage of this while reading the other person, or use that "general" rule to throw people off. DI inside, tech away. DI away, tech inside. Etc
