Instant up-b recovery, and not helpless afterward.

ok, I'm sure this has been found before but I had it happen by accident recently and found it to be interesting. so I wanted to hear some input on it.

Here's a clip of the occurance (direct download, right-click and save as)

Basically what happens is I get hit by a fireball right as I started my up-b. I assume it pushed me up into the head of the PK Thunder to instantly shoot towards the stage. However, I'm also free to b-air Mario afterwards.

So is this some kind of Ness tactic people use already? If so is it something that can be easily/consistently reproduced and with good aim? The fact that I could b-air means you could also do another up-b so this could really help Ness recover in situations like a teammate saving you.

I can't see the video right now, but I think I know what you did. You did a static PKTB with the head of the thunder. In earlier versions of smash, if Ness is diturbed during PKT, he will loose control of it, and it will be able to hurt anyone. If you get hit right as it comes out of Ness, Ness himself will be knocked into it. If you hit the tail, you recieve no knockback. Hitting the head though, causes a little knockback that pops you up. Since you just got hurt, you will not fall helplessly.

As for usefulness, using it off stage for anti-edgeguarding would be a good idea, since while off stage, your only other defense is an airdodge. But that makes you helpless afterwards. But this tactic is a bi hard to do.
