1 - INTRODUCTION [btt1]
==================================================

Welcome to the Target Smash!! stage 1 (Easy) strategy guide for Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I should warn you, there will not be easier transitional strategies in this guide. Instead, we'll skip straight to the best of the best. Why? I feel that if you're serious about becoming skilled, going for the best at the beginning will help you greatly. Within this guide you will find a very detailed strategy for each of the 35 used characters. Characters cut out are Zero Suit Samus, Zelda, Squirtle and Charizard. They are not used to obtain the world record times, and will likely never be, so please don't ask me about them. If you find that this guide was not helpful, feel free to contact me (contact information in section 6) if you have any questions. With that said, I hope you enjoy what this guide has to offer!

Do you see anything in this guide that you may not understand? Check the FAQ section to see if it has an answer!

-----------
Difficulty: *****
-----------------

1,2 - Short hop forward and throw a Waddle Dee at the top target. If you're lucky, Waddle Dee will run across the top of the stage and jump into the middle-right target.

3 - Dash left and triple jump up to the top of the wall. strong forward B right to throw a Gordo (spike guy) and hit the upper-right target.

4,5,6 - Dash left and fast fall off. Hold right and aerial up A the upper-left target. Continue to fast fall and hold right. slip off the center step. Back A the middle-left and bottom-left targets. Delay a fast fall to the ground by so much, the fast fall barely saves any time at all. (this is to land without lag.

7,8 - When you land, turn around to face left. Double jump backwards going right and back A the target under the L structure. When you land, smash throw forward B into the bottom-right target. Gordo will not make it if you are not far enough to the left, but you're more likely to get a Waddle Dee and Waddle Doo.

9,10 - Dash left and double jump up. Start an aerial up A as you begin to double jump and drift to the right. The up A will hit the targets to the left and on top of the L structure.

----
Wolf - Good time to aim for: 6.30
----
Difficulty: ***..
-----------------

1 - Dash right and single jump blaster shot (neutral B) to the left through the bottom hole. Hold right after you shoot and land as far right as you possibly can. The blaster will break the top left target.

2,3,4 - Dash right and short hop blaster to the left. The gun itself will hit the upper-right target, and the shot from the gun will hit the top target. Slow fall and hit the middle-right target with the very tip of the back A, landing as far to the left as possible. Land with no lag.

5,6,7 - Dash and short hop left. Shoot a blaster shot at the target above the L structure. Slow fall down and shoot a blaster shot to the left. The base should hit the target under the L structure and the blast should hit the bottom right target.

8,9,10 - Dash left and start a blaster shot as you rise. Clip the lower-left corner of the L Structure so the gun will break the target to the left of the L structure, and the blast from the gun will break the middle-left target. Slow fall and neutral A the bottom-left target.

-------
Lucario - Good time to aim for: 8.15
-------
Difficulty: **...
-----------------

1,2 - Double jump to the right, flick the control stick left and press B twice to shoot a no charge shadow ball through the bottom hole at the top left target. As you land, aerial down A the target above the L structure through the floor.

3,4,5 - Dash right and turn around to face left. single short hop right. Flick the C-Stick left while holding the control stick right to break the top target with forward A. Continue to hold right and up A the upper-right target. Start charging a neutral B facing left as you land. Use the charge to break the middle-right target, then roll to the left as soon as you land.

6,7 - Dash left and forward A (if you wish. It makes no difference) Start charging and make Lucario face the right while moving left. The charge will break the target under the L structure. Release the charge as soon as the target is broken and send the shadow ball to the bottom-right target.

8,9,10 - Dash left and single jump aerial forward A the target to the left of the L structure. Aerial forward A again, then fast fall. This attack will hit the middle-left target. Aerial down A the bottom left target. (This one can be done pretty high, so don't be shy to do it quickly)

----
Ness - Good time to aim for: 9.50
----
Difficulty: **...
-----------------

1,2,3 - Dash right and full jump aerial forward A the top target after you've almost ran through it. Wait a moment, then forward A the upper-right target. Fast fall, hold left a little bit and tilt the C-Stick right to hit the middle-right target as far to the left as the forward A will allow you.

4 - Dash left and run off the edge. Slow fall forward B the bottom-right target and land on the edge of the V platform. Don't start the forward B right away. Wait just a little while, then be sure to get it out as soon as you tilt to keep your leftward momentum.

5 - Turn around, jump and aerial forward A the target under the L structure. Land on top of the lower of the of the L structure.

6,7,8,9,10 - Single jump left and forward A the target on top of the L structure. Fast fall down and start another forward A which hits the target to the left of the L structure. Keep falling and double jump forward A to hit the bottom-left and middle left (in that order) targets. At the peak of your double jump, start an up B. Make sure your up B is mostly vertacle, but with just enough horizontal aim to get it to the target.

-----
Sonic - Good time to aim for: 7.75
-----
Difficulty: **...
-----------------

1,2,3 - Double jump backwards into the hole facing right. Without turning around, roll to the left and fast fall as soon as you get out of the hole. aerial forward A the top-left target with the C-Stick. Strong DI to the right so you don't land on top of the stairs while fast falling. Aerial up A the middle-left and bottom-left targets. Land as far right as possible.

4,5,6,7,8 - Dash right across the entire bottom of the stage. Single jump and do a non-charged forward B left to hit the bottom-right target with the start of the attack, when the forward takes control, you will fly into the target under the L structure and break it. When that target is broken, jump to make the forward B bounce, then double jump out. Aerial up A the targets to the left and on top of the L structure. Slip off the right corner of the top part of the L structure and aerial up A through the ceiling to break the top target.

9,10 - Dash right and short hop up B so the spring hits the middle-right target. Turn around in the up B so you can aerial forward A (facing left) the upper-right target.

------
Bowser - Good time to aim for: 9.15
------
Difficulty: *....
-----------------

1 - Single jump straight up and flick the control stick to the left. Press B and bring out the flame. Aim it up so it can make it into the bottom hole and break the top left target.

2 - Dash right and short hop as soon as you begin to run down the hill on the main platform. Forward A the top target.

3,4,5 - Dash right and jump as soon as possible. Forward A the upper-right target and fast fall forward B the middle-right target. If done right, you can double jump before even landing! Double jump to the right and fast fall neutral B to the right as soon as you start fast falling. Land on the far right edge of the V platform.

6 - Turn around and tap A to break the target under the L structure.

7,8,9,10 - Double jump over the right side of the L structure. Start a neutral B flame at the peak of your double jump. Flame the target on top of the L structure, the target to the left of the structure and slowly start to aim the flame downward right before you hit the target on the middle-left. If your flame is aimed down, you will break the bottom-left sooner.

-----
Wario - Good time to aim for: 8.85
-----
Difficulty: ***..
-----------------

1,2 - While facing right, double jump left and down A through the bottom hole. Slip out on the left side. Flick the C-Stick to the left and hold right on the control stick to back A the upper-right target, then come back in to the bottom hole. Slip off on the right side and double jump to the right. Fast fall and aerial down A the target on top of the L structure through the floor. The part of the down A that must hit is near the end, and you will land with some lag.

3,4,5,6 - Dash right and aerial down A the top target on top of the main platform. Continue to hold right and forward A the upper-right target. Fast fall and double jump with X to the left and forward A right with the C-stick so your forward A barely grazes the upper-left part of the middle-right target. Fast fall down skipping the middle-right platform go to the right. Down A the bottom-right target, and hold left to drift out and land as far left as possible.

7,8,9,10 - While still facing right, double jump left and aerial down A the target under the L structure. Always hold left at this point. Double jump left while facing right and down A the target to the left of the L structure. Hold left while facing right. Wait just a small bit and tilt the C-Stick down to fast fall. Hold right so you don't land on the stairs. The down A will hit the middle and bottom-left targets.

---------
Toon Link - Good time to aim for: 5.75
---------
Difficulty: ***..
-----------------

1 - Dash right and double jump. Shoot a no charge arrow to the left as you double jump so the arrow travels through the bottom hole. Fast fall as soon as you regain control over your character. Land as far right as possible.

2,3,4,5,6 - Dash right for a very brief period. Single jump and light throw the boomerang at the upper-right target as you're falling. If thrown correctly, it will break (and bounce backwards off of) the upper-right target, the top target, the target above the L structure, the target to the left of the L structure and the bottom-left target.

7 - Dash right (don't worry about the boomerang anymore. It'll do its job if you threw it correctly) and fast fall down and right off the main platform. Hook shot the middle-right target so you can land at a distance with no lag.

8,9,10 - Dash left and slow fall off the platform. Charge an arrow and shoot it above the target under the L structure, but under the L structure itself. It will travel across the stage and hit the middle-left target. Land about half-way up the right half of the V platform. When on the V platform, press B, then immediately press right to turn around without having to jump or turn around the normal way. Shoot an arrow at the bottom-right target with absolutely no charge. Up tilt the target under the L structure.

R.O.B. - Good time to aim for: 5.70
------
Difficulty: ****.
-----------------

Note: This strategy is detailed using B Sticking. To find out what that is, check the FAQ section.

1,2 - Full jump straight up and shoot a laser directly into the ground as you jump. The laser will hit the top target, bounce off the floor then hit the upper-right target. Double jump and up B and slip off the left top corner of the wall to the left.

3,4 - (After the slip off) Fast fall and hold right. Tilt the C-Stick down to pull out a top. Shoot the top against one of the blocks inbetween the holes so that it bounces off the wall and hits the top left target. The top will then fall (over time) onto the middle-left target.

5,6 - Once you're able to shoot a laser right and have it do some good, shoot a laser right and slightly aimed downward to hit the target on top of the L structure and the middle-right target.

7,8,9,10 - Double jump and hit your head on the ceiling. Fast fall and aerial forward A the target to the left of the L structure from as far left as possible. Head further to the left and shoot the final laser directly up so it bounces off the bottom ceiling of the L structure. The easiest way to make this hit is to watch where R.O.B.'s "feet" are. The laser itself will go off and hit the targets under the L structure and the bottom right if you aimed it correctly. The bottom-left target will be hit by the attack box that R.O.B.'s body generates when you use the laser.

------
Olimar - Good time to aim for: 4.05
------
Difficulty: ****.
-----------------

Note: Your Pikmin order needs to be Blue, White and Red. Blue, White and Blue is also equally as fast.

1,2,3 - Single jump forward B throw the blue Pikmin at the top target. Double jump toward the wall and smash throw the white Pikmin across the stage to the right at the upper-right and middle-right targets. 4,5,6,7,8,9,10 - Dash left and fast fall. Tilt the C-Stick up and attack the top left target with the red Pikmin. When you're out of the area inbetween the walls, smash throw a blue Pikmin at the target above the L structure. It will hit the target above the L structure and hit the bottom-right target. Throw (doesn't have to be smash throw) the red Pikmin at the target to the left of the L structure. It will hit the target to the left of the L structure and then hit the target under the L structure. When you've thrown your Pikmin, tap A and tilt down on the control stick to initiate the delayed fast fall. The aerial neutral A will hit the middle-left target and the bottom-left target.

Triple jump to the right while facing left and aerial down A the bottom-left target. land about half-way into the V platform.

6,7 - Short hop to the right while facing left and aerial down A the target under the L structure. Hold right and double jump back A the bottom-right target. Go to the left a very little bit now. Use your third and 4th jumps to make it to the middle-right platform. Land as far into the middle-right platform as possible.

8,9,10 - While still facing left, Single jump right and back A the middle-right target. Double jump, then triple jump up A the upper-right target. Hold left and down A the target on top of the starting platform.

-----
Lucas - Good time to aim for: 8.30
-----
Difficulty: ****.
-----------------

Note: This strategy is detailed using B Sticking. To find out what that is, check the FAQ section.

1,2 - Hold left before the run starts, and double jump toward the wall. While holding left, tilt the control stick right to shoot a PK thunder into the hole and gain some knock back. Down B in mid air before you land. The down B will cause you to fly across the top platform and break the top target with it while flying.

3,4,5,6 - Dash right and single jump aerial neutral A to break the upper-right target. Fast fall and hold right, then tilt left on the C-Stick to PK fire the middle-right target.. you will fly across the middle-right platform and land on the far left edge. Fast fall off the edge and forward B the target under the L structure. When you have regained control of Lucas, double jump and wait just a small moment then hold right and tilt the C-Stick to the left to hit the bottom-right target and get the same knock back we had before. Use Aerial down B to fly across the bottom of the stage. Land close to the stairs.

7,8,9,10 - Short hop toward the bottom-left target and up B directly straight up, then curve slightly to the left. Arch it all the way back up and over to aim it up/right. Now curve it up to have more vertical distance, but not completely vertical. The up B will start at the bottom-left target, hit the middle-left target, travel to the target to the left of the L structure then up to the target on top of the L structure.

4 - FAQ [btt4]
==================================================

--------\
Question| You turned around for some characters with ease. How is that?
--------/
That's a simple answer. Simply start a dash in one direction, then tilt the control stick in the opposite direction, jump, then tilt the control stick back in the direction you were originally running in to keep your momentum. (the momentum keeper is optional)

--------\
Question| You call the stage parts and targets weird names. Help?
--------/
Certainly. Below I have included a link to a picture (directly from my personal photobucket account) that will give you all the answers you need regarding target and platform names!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/LinksDarkArrows/Stage_1_Layout_Assistance.jpg

--------\
Question| How do you know these are the world records?
--------/
I'll be frank. I don't. The records I give you in this document are the best known times. Each record has an equal chance of being obsoleted by somebody unknown.

--------\
Question| Why did you write for only stage one? (Easy)
--------/
That's a simple question to answer. I know more about stage one than the other four stages. I may do more guides later, but I want to see how well this guide does.

--------\
Question| I see an error/have a question. Can I contact you?
--------/
My contact information is in the dedicated section. Search this document for "[btt7]".

--------\
Question| Are there easier strategies out there?
--------/
There certainly are. Search YouTube for a user called "LLCoolDave". His YouTube has some of the first strategies for stage one. They get respectable times and aren't as hard as the ones detailed in this guide.

--------\
Question| Why did you detail only the best strategies?
--------/
This guide wasn't mean to be a huge collection of strategies. Not yet. I thought it would be important to have some type of documentation on the best strategies currently out. I may add easier strategies when Beginner and Intermediate thresholds are created. Until then, just read the question above this one for your answer on where to find easier strategies.

--------\
Question| Why didn't you feature all 39 characters?
--------/
Some characters, such as Zero Suit Samus, Zelda, Squirtle and Charizard aren't as fast as their counterpart characters accessable via the same tile on the character selection menu. They all share the same saved score, so I went for which character currently provides the fastest time.

--------\
Question| I have an idea for a new strategy. Can you test it?
--------/
No. Contact somebody else.

--------\
Question| What's this "B-Sticking" all about?
--------/
B-Sticking is an alternate way of playing. It's used to gain an obvious advantage that you would normally never have. To activate it, you just first have a name entered in the name editor. When you have that, follow these simple steps.

Main Menu -> Options -> Controls -> Your Name -> Control style (Nintendo GameCube for me)

If you're using a GameCube controller, go to the C-Stick option and change it from "Smash" to "Special". You will now be able to use the B moves on the C-Stick.

--------\
Question| Are there videos I can see to help me understand what you're saying?
--------/

There sure are. Visit the following YouTube channels and look through old and new videos:

YouTube.com/LinksDarkArrows
YouTube.com/LPZampa
YouTube.com/CharlieDWM
YouTube.com/HyperMegaMegaMan

--------\
Question| What are the difficulty ratings for?
--------/

The difficulty ratings were added to give you a general idea of how hard a strategy is. I based them off both what I feel, and what I think you will feel. If you find I falsely rated a strategy, whether it should be easier or harder than said, feel free to tell me. You can address that in the contact section.

--------\
Question| Why did you write a guide for a mode no one cares about?
--------/

I wrote it so that all future players who decide to play can get in on it if no one is around to help them.

--------\
Question| Will you or somebody else capture my stage 1 (or any) video(s)?
--------/

I won't, but somebody else will. Search YouTube.

--------\
Question| Can I update the banner for you? Paint is ugly.
--------/

Go away. I adore my paint program abomination!

--------\
Question| Will you write guides for other stages/modes?
--------/

Not likely, but I might in the future. We'll see how things go, OK?

5 - SPECIAL THANKS [btt5]
==================================================

There are tons of people I would like to thank for making this guide possible, but it'll be hard to include everybody. I'm very sorry if I missed anyone important, but I decided to keep this short.

--Not GameFAQs: GameFAQs rejected this very strategy guide. I encourage all of you to send negative feedback tickets from here on out!

--Myself
for writing this guide obviously.

--SmashBoards
They're my new host leech (even if they don't know it) for the greated Brawl Stadium strategy guide ever written!

--DSUltimate
They have it too.

--LLCoolDave
You'll always be the stage 1 master in my eyes. You nearly single handedly paved the way for the beginning strategies. though every one of them is outdated, we wouldn't be as far as we are today without your efforts.

--FreddyP
FreddyP is the perpetual inspiration to even continue killing ourselves, controllers and mind state. No one has more patience with King Dedede. I dare you to find somebody else. When you're ready to throw you or your Wii off the nearest bridge, think about how FreddyP can endure twenty hours of King Dedede, never get a completion, and still keep going!

---DWM-
I asked for a few of the smaller details (and one very large one. Lucas' middle through ending) on a few of the strategies I wasn't quite sure about from being only partially active lately. This guide was able to exist sooner because of him.

--Ronek
Why? Because I say so. That's why!

--Anybody who has contributed to stage 1
You know who you are! Since I don't want to leave anyone out of this, I'll consider you an important piece of the stadium backbone. Had you guys not played, stage 1 wouldn't be this far today.

--You, the reader
If you didn't read this guide, then I'd have wasted an entire day on it. Thank you, and I hope you consider playing more stadium!

==================================================
6 - CLOSING [btt6]
==================================================

On behalf of the entire Stadium community...

I hope you enjoyed this guide. The strategies inside are not all my own. What Target Smash!! stage one is today is a product of a couple dozen contributers. Without each and everyone of the contributers, we wouldn't be where we are today. For the last 10 months, we worked together throwing around ideas and testing anything that came along. Some old players who had stopped playing Melee's returned, some who just transitioned played and we even saw some new faces. It was an exciting ride to turn stage one into the super power that it is today, and I have only good thoughts about the future of stage one. What kind of stratgies will unfold? When will we see them? Will somebody new come along and enlighten us with ideas we had never once thought of? Only time will tell. Though stage one may have reached what seems to be the pinnacle, we must never accept any strategy as final, even if it seems like it can never get any better. I hope this guide has inspired you to at least give Target Smash!! stage one a try. You might find out you like it more than you thought.

8 - VERSION UPDATES [btt8]
==================================================

Version 1 - The initial release if this guide. Full of very useful information for every character.

Version 2 - No strategy updates. Instead, I added the new banner atop the first post, decided to add some more questions to the FAQ and fix some spelling errors. The new strategies proven to be faster since the initial release of version 1 will be added in version 3. The world record list was also updated.

Version 3 - I added new strategies/tweaks for Donkey Kong, Marth, Diddy Kong, Pit, Ivysaur, Yoshi, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers, King Dedede, Lucario, Sonic, Bowser, Wario and Jigglypuff. More questions to the F.A.Q. have been added, and rough levels of difficulty were introduced by each character. I also changed some of the "Good time to aim for's" to better suit strategies, or to just overall make them more accurate for an aspiring newcomer. Remember, despite being new, all times can be obtained with a decent amount of practice!

Version 4 - I added even more new strategies/tweaks. The characters who were changed are Link, Samus, Fox, Mr. Game and Watch, Sheik, Pokemon Trainer (Ivysaur), Ike and Lucario. This guide was also pulled off All is Brawl and settled on SmashBoards for the time being. I changed a few of the difficulty levels, and some of the "aim for" times. I removed a few FAQ questions that no longer apply, and added a very small list of sites allowed to host this guide.

Woah, thanks for writing this! Reaching the "Good time to aim for" requirements will keep me occupied for a while! I dunno why this hasn't attracted more people, I guess not many are interested in target test atm. Let us know if you decide to write a new guide, I'd look forward to it, especially if it's a co-op guide for stage 1! ;)

Hey, cool, a Target Smash guide! I personally find this interesting, as I actually enjoy the Stadium minigames (why are they disliked?). I personally don't have any trouble on LVL. 1, but I'll be waiting for the LVL. 4 and LVL. 5 guides.

This is great! It would be awesome if you could post videos, but this alone -considering the massive amount of time it must have taken you- is more than good enough. Good job!
