Besides checking some of the guides here for starters, learning how to UpB out of shield with Dr. Mario works wonders since if you've got quick enough reflexes you can punish anybody hitting your shield with UpB, dealing 13 damage. Learning your basic fundamentals and spacing with Doc's pills is good, since they're essentially his only long ranged option but have a presence on the field when you use them.

Dr. Tornado also has really fast startup, comparable to his jab. You can use it to approach in either the air or the ground, or to catch air dodges/spotdodges/rolls.

Spamming the pills and jumping backwards is also a good idea.
  • It forces the opponent to approach you
  • Stops all the momentum your opponent is charging up. Are they charging a smash attack and you're running into them? Pills. Running towards you and they're about to strike? Pills.
Another tip is when you're holding on the edge, UP + B if they're near the edge as well so you can attack and land on the stage at the same time. Watch out if they shield.

Also use the shield a LOT. Not a lot of people tend to play slow characters and as a result, you'll be getting a lot of blows to you.

Do these things:

- Up B OOS

- SHFF Bair

- SH Dair

- SH Cape

- Cape OOS

- Dair OOS

- Reverse Usmash out of a pivot; dash, pivot and then cancel the pivot into an Usmash

To be better with :4drmario:, reading guides and watching good Doc players are a great way to improve.

I'll say that any Doc should know how to recover properly with him. A lot of people quit maining Doc because his recovery isn't great. Training yourself there is good, and can help you making comebacks. The best way to recover with Doc is usually doing first a Doc'Tornado, a Jump, and either a Cape or a UpB.

After this, train yourself at spacing with him. Doc ain't an offensive character and needs to be played defensively, spacing out his opponents to put himself in a safe position. Since he has big K.O abilities, you don't need to make big combos, and the combos with grabs are usually the only combos you'll need. The UpB Out Of Shield is important to learn, it makes Doc's options larger and his punishes stronger. The DSmash is his best way to space out people, it has the biggest range and does great knockback.

Overall, to get better, just play Doc a lot. Play with friends and other Doc mains, try to find your weaknesses and try to correct them. Doc is still a solid character to play.

:4drmario:'s out of shield options are great, especially up B.
If your opponent is at about 100% and it hits then you got yourself a kill.

To get safe on the stage down B is pretty good because of the many hits and the confusing momentum.
You can also gimp with down b but i don't know if it's better to just run off the ledge and side B, I guess it depends.

Be sure that you don't double jump too much because it's pretty hard to recover without your 2nd jump.

Down throw, uair, bair and up tilt are your bread and butter moves to rack up damage.
Back throw, fair, usmash, sidesmash and up B are your K.O. moves.

Well at least that's what I've found out from playing him.

Like most peepz up in here already stated, a good OoS game is beneficial. Other than that, just work on your fundementals, since PhD is a very basic character that needs good fundementals to work properly IMO
