I'm having a difficult getting accustomed to it, but I think it's better than using the a button for a few reasons.
1. You can immediately fast fall after using it. This can make certain combos work that might not have otherwise. Especially if you are punishing something in neutral.
2. You maintain all horizontal momentum, and can fade back to potentially space yourself better.
3. If you feel like you are going to get shield grabbed, you can dair instead of nair. Which would be much harder if you had to switch in between the button and c stick.
