Hi,

Having trouble with the Luigi matchup, What is Luigi's real weakness? You can't gimp him because ledge recovery isn't his weakness. (See Tornado and Boss) I previously thought that was his weakness but I guess not. Down throw comboes into everything and even if you perfect shield the fireballs he can still approach.

It's frustrating, no way of stopping the Green Thunder.

Honestly, his recovery is his biggest flaw because it is very predictable. Start timing your gimps so you can hit him out of his recovery options.

The other glaring weakness is his poor air mobility which is why he struggles against projectiles. Try to space the luigi out more with little pokes because he is oftentimes too slow to chase after you.

Hope this helps a bit

Luigi's pretty good in this game. The problems he has are:

a) Recovery is still too vertical even with down-b. This becomes really inconvenient against Villager's bowling bowl and Megaman's down-air.
b) It's very difficult for Luigi to deal with characters who have disjoint hitbox type moves in the air (think Rosalina, Villager, Ness.)
c) Super armor/Luma screw up Luigi's day because aside from fireball, he doesn't really have safe disjoint attacks.
d) Characters with good throw range that don't have poor throw recovery can really put a damper in Luigi's offense - the biggest offender is probably Ness, because his b-throw is just that dangerous.
e) Luigi is weak against campers who can keep him out effectively, because he has to get close to be effective. Not all camping characters can keep him out though - Luigi can run pretty well on the ground and shouldn't be scared by most ground projectiles, but Villager, Pac-Man and Megaman all have an extra-dimension to their camping game that can make it difficult for Luigi to get in.

Low traction makes near impossible to punish opponents. Side b recovery is a death wish. Cyclone recovery is great, but if your opponent knows you have to do it, they'll meet you with a spike after you've finished the move. His range isn't anything to right home about. He's pretty solid besides those few things.

Three things come to mind:
1. His recovery is predictable and pitiful. If he needs to recover horizontally, then he will go for the Green Missile. If he needs to recover vertically, then he will go for the Luigi Cyclone and / or Super Jump Punch. It's also pitiful because he can be easily gimped. You can be in the middle of a Luigi Cyclone, get hit, and he will pretty much be dead.
2. Characters that greatly outrange him are a problem. The characters that come to mind are Ness with his PK Thunder and Fire and Rosalina and her Lumas. These enable them to have a pretty good area that limits Luigi's movement. He can't really respond well to Ness's PK Thunder in the air and the Lumas give him a very, very tough time and gives him little room to breathe.
3. Camping is by far is biggest weakest. If you camp him by even just spamming projectiles, Luigi can and will have trouble. This is especially the case with Mega Man and R.O.B., both of which have great projectiles (Mega Man's specials and lemons and R.O.B.'s gyros and neutral special). It's for that reason why I believe these two are by far his worst matchups.

Another weakness that he does have is both his poor air speed and his traction, which limits his mobility and could result in him getting punished. However, there aren't many characters that can truly abuse that... the best example that I think of that can is Little Mac.

His weakness is he essentially only has one real aerial approach, and that is down-b.
Otherwise, Luigi must approach from the ground to a shot hop aerial or grab.

This makes him very bad against characters like Megaman.
